LG G Pad X2 8.0 Plus T-Mo LG-V530 - LG G Pad X 8.0 Questions & Answers

I know this isn't the correct forum but I've searched and haven't found anything and since this seems to be the closet device I was wondering if there is any development for this device yet or any rooting methods that may work

I looked as well. There does not seem to be any serious develop on the V530. I'm bootloader unlocked but no root or twrp that I could find.

Thanks. I couldn't even get that far. Don't get me wrong it's a nice device but I'm sure a custom ROM would make it fly. Hopefully soon as more people get the device we'll see some development.

First thing first. Bootloader commands must be there.
If so, you just need TWRP

I'd also be very interested in rooting/custom rom for this device, as I moved to it from my Nexus 7 2013 that was very much showing it's age. It's almost painful being on a stock rom from a 3rd party at this point. I've searched through google and nobody seems to be taking much interest in this device. The same was true for the original xperia z tablet and it's got official lineageos support, so I remain hopeful.

love this thing
I would just love to root this beast. New to LG products, not new to rooting. Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to start?

I am having problems even booting into bootloader on this thing. I was able to boot into recovery mode but can't get out of the "no commands".
adb reboot recovery
adb reboot bootloader -> just reboots it.
It might be possible to use dirtyc0w exploit to get root access on this tablet.(nvm it seems our android version is already patched for that. )

I too have been able to get the bootloader unlocked but unable to find a version of TWRP or find any rooting tool that supports this device. Still holding out hope but this doesn't seem to be a super popular device :/

Hey guys! I bricked my tab and i need a stock kdz or system, recovery and boot.imgs! Does anyone have or can pull these file for me thanks in advance!
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app

I have rooted mine..if I had the stock system.img could you used that? This is what I did to obtain root..
Download the Lg download utility mode tool '''https://github.com/Lekensteyn/lglaf''
and the sources ''https://pycryptodome.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/installation.html'
Then open cmd in the folder and execute: python lglaf.py --debug --rawshell --cr -c '!S sh' <--- there might be an error message or laf_acess_denied but its okay.
re-enter the command: python lglaf.py --debug --rawshell <--- this should open up an interactive shell..enter ls and see if it lists the files on the device then close the interactive shell
run python extract-partitions.py to get the stock boot.bin but change the file extension to .img
push the boot.img to the device, install magisk manager, patch the boot.img, pull img then flash with fastboot

Nice! We finally get root a couple days after a seemingly innocent fall off my bed wrecked my screen :crying:. Deciding on replacing it or getting a MediaPad M5.

tbh I've rooted this device since last month or so but I really didn't have time to make a tutorial

Is anyone able to pull there kdz? My tab is bricked and ive tried LG bridge and all others! Or the the imgs in need to go back to stock! Any help please! Thanks!

Thanks to Vincent_vann I have root. With this I can finally start building a custom TWRP for this tablet. I wish we had a forum for this device. I requested one last year but it still hasn't been made even though it was approved. If I get one built, and there isn't a dedicated forum, I'll post it in this thread.

Just built TWRP. I noticed some folks asking for stock recovery, boot, and system img files. I have recovery and boot img. Not sure where to post these though. Same with twrp. If someone has any reccomendations on how to go about this I'll gladly provide.

I have the Canadian variant (v533) and wouldn't mind giving TWRP a whirl on it. All specs are same so I think it'll work. Don't mind testing if you do get somewhere to post TWRP. Also good job on getting it compiled ?

Thank you! Unfortunately with nougat file based encryption TWRP has issues with decrypting /data after the setup of the tablet. So it's working 50% which is annoying because you'll have to wipe data whenever you want to flash something. Not a big deal for roms, but very inconvenient for other zips. If you still want it let me know and I'll find a place. Else I'll be tackling the decryption issue this weekend.

Root for the Verizon V10 possible(Not ROM installation, just root)?

Hi guys,
Just wondering if I can get root without unlocking the bootloader. Seems that I;m hearing that this isn't possible, which makes no sense. I know Verizon is Verizon when it comes to locking things down(They were even blocking free games on dumbphones back in the day so that you would have to buy them, even when the manufacturer included them for free), but it seems that gaining root access is completely different than flashing a new ROM. Am I correct here?
Also, would towelroot work for this phone? I know it's a nice simple solution, but I believe their claim is for phones manufactured before Jun '14.
Lastly, would a solution like Safestrap work here? It's what I used on my last phone (S3), when Verizon locked THAT down.
I know it is a battle fighting Verizon on this, and I know it takes time, I was just wondering if I am reading this right, or if I could root, but run the standard ROM, just with the extra access... Really, the phone is working so well that I just want better control for things like deleting/disabling/freezing stock apps and such.
Thanks for any help!! Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, seemed appropriate.
I am a user of H961N and it is also cannot be rooted.
I think root injection may be the answer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-100-root-success-directives-root-t3180586
This is the related thread in G4 forum. I have tried this method. However, I have encountered a problem shown below during the process:
Code:
D:\V10\LG_Root>Send_Command.exe \\.\COM8
Author : blog.lvu.kr
SPECIAL COMMAND : ENTER, LEAVE
#dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p51 of=/data/media/0/system.img
FAIL
#ls
FAIL
#
It keeps returning "FAIL" to me no matter what command i enter. I have asked about this in the thread in G4 forum but no one answer me, sad
I think that you may try it and it may work, as the above problem may not due to the phone but my computer.
Where did you get you system.img file? if you are using the one from the g4 it will not work. The file needs to be rooted for your device and then injected.

I'm curious, the 'Fail' just means that it fails to work, right? Phone works fine after that and all? No bricking or need to restore? If so, that's a safe risk. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good luck with this but I have a feeling that unless someone has an exploit laying around, you'll need an unlocked bootloader.

Thought I'll share if someone would like to give this a shot.

Thanks for this.....but i was reading that article...it says you root it by flashing the superuser zip in TWRP recovery....um....you cannot flash custom recovery without root....or am i missing something. Im not bashing you for posting the article. I thank you very much for posting it! More like questioning the articles validity.

you need an unlocked bootloader
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-unlock-bootloader-on-lg-v10/
and adb & fastboot tool, not root
To install a custom recovery
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-on-lg-v10-h901/
That's how I usually would do it, the way it's described in the articles, since I still have to get my v10 from Far East can't test it.
And don't worry, I don't feel like you are bashing.
Life's too short to take anything too personal.
Awesome thank you for clearing that up!! I was totally confused for a second there.

I think if LG release a genuine ROM file, we could replace recovery parition with rooted one and flash it to our phone, that the only way open but LG hasn't released any ROM file yet.

LG k7 ms330

Okay first thing first...
This thread is now under new & better management as it is now only about the device itself, but also rooting, custom recoveries, & even xposed specifically for the LG K7!
if you have any questions about any of the fun topics here please feel free to PM/post your questions here.
LGMS330 source code
Somehow & IDK how, but I downloaded the source code for the lgms330 & it also comes with instruction to make a custom rom with it!!!!!
I'm so excited!!! once I get my phone back from LG to fix my phone & send it back to me...(they won't let me fix it myself)
Im going to build cyanogenmod & TWRP for LG K7 in the meantime
so here's the download link for the LGMS330 source code...it contains the kernel as well!

I havent tried to install supersu in my terminal app (yet) I just finished on my app & just started testing it on my own....I will try to add a supersu option for anyone who has root, but not from supersu
It seems most can't understand the situstion im in....
I actually rooted my device, but the complications came after when i made an app to install the xposed framework...it worked the first time, but when i tried to install it again to see what will happen...the app crashed & rebooted my phone...after the third attempt I was left with a brick....
So my issue here is that I DID NOT have trouble on gaining root....HOWEVER I figured out why my app broke my phone & I fixed my issue(s) & added many safety protocols to be initated if the the same case ever happen again

Not as well as I liked.... K7 a little akward
I had as just a hard time if not equal to the ms770 stylo ... Im beginning to not like LG grrrr. It's almost like the bootloader is locking .... As this thread started it was all about the su binary not taking it then maybe rooted after restore. But in both devices I had to uninstall root. Just had root until reboot and a mess after that. Is there another issue with the bootloader on lg? I can say that I think there is a diference in su ap and installed binary so pay attention.
I did not do well in my imaging ability... I should have reached to ask assistance but need to start and finish these two. I went ahead and customed them with out root apps ... The buyers didnt carecause they never seen root apps anyway. Im getting another this week ... More time hopefully
I've seen quite a few people swear off LG. In my opinion their phones aren't bad but I guess as far as 3rd party developement, they make it difficult.

my personal opinion is playing is that using apps without recovery is stupid. i am also guilty of being stupid/impatient and f'n up my phone. but lets not encourage stupidity bro. educate the people. i installed xposed through adb before recovery was available too but, and for those of us that are just tired of typing the commands, copy, paste, rename directory and all its awesome. but to mass distribute it to the masses of newbs????? how many willl soft brick their phone cause thet wanted their wifi signal bars to look like a deathstar. [GUIDE]How to root Moto G4 (Moto G 2016) the right way or fix a bad attempted root

Trying to root Nougat (Android 7)? Then read the comments at the bottom please...
I will first state I do NOT own a Moto G4, I own the G3 and the X Pure which are both 3rd Gen devices, but I was requested to write this tutorial by a few users here due to lots of failed root attempts using older "standard" methods that do not work on this device. I also do not like the "one click" root methods, because they can and do fail (KingoRoot will brick a Moto G3/4, regardless of what it's web page says), and when they do people have no idea how to fix it. The manual way is not difficult, and it teaches you how to work on, fix, and use your device on a level above that of the average smartphone user.
I will only cover rooting, the prerequisites are covered elsewhere in detail and I will link to reliable sources for the information. Specifics of the prerequisites are outside of the scope of this tutorial, but are open for discussion in this thread. Remember, I do not own this device although the methods used are the same as similar devices.
Prerequisites:
0) Be running Marshmallow (Android 6.x) stock ROM, at this time Nougat (Android 7.x) is not working via any method.
1) Device must have an unlocked bootloader. See Moto - Unlocking the Bootloader for more info.
NOTE: As of 7/18/2016, Amazon ad-subsidised Moto G 4th Gen devices cannot be bootloader unlocked, therefore they cannot be rooted. Sorry, Lollipop and newer Android security changes pretty much put an end to that.
2) You need to have TWRP installed or one-time booted via fastboot. CWM and other recoveries will NOT work at this time. See TWRP's Moto G 2016 page
3) You need a copy of the latest stable SuperSU ZIP from Chainfire's site on the internal storage or SD card of your device. SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip is the lastest version verified to work with this method.
Note: Do NOT use any 2.77 version, it was a beta intended specifically for the SG Note 7 and will not work, it does not harm but fails to root.
4) Reboot and start TWRP recovery, and PERFORM A COMPLETE BACKUP IN TWRP (Nandroid)!!!
How to do it:
Now, the procedure is the same whether you are trying to root the first time, or you did it the old way just flashing SuperSU and are now not able to boot...
In TWRP, go to Advanced and open the Terminal, in the terminal type this EXACTLY as shown:
Code:
echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
Now press enter (there is no confirmation returned), then exit and press the Home key. Go to Install and select the SuperSU zip file you downloaded from Prerequisite #3 and swipe to flash it and reboot. No need to clear caches or anything else but you are welcome to if you wish. You can install SuperSU updates normally through the app going forward (as of this posting).
Why do I have to do this???
For whatever reason, the install script for SuperSU does not recognize that this device (like many others) requires a systemless root installation. By creating /data/.supersu in the TWRP recovery environment, the SuperSU install script parses the file and sees "SYSTEMLESS=true" and ignores what it auto-detects and forces a systemless root installation.
Hope this is helpful to someone!
As always, if this is the first time you have booted TWRP or attempted root... BACKUP IN TWRP FIRST!!! Once the system is modified, it cannot be undone (easily) and you will always have a known good starting place if the worst happens.
EDIT: Photos added showing what a proper command and flash should look like. Note that in picture 1 the exit command is not needed, you can just back out. In pictures 2 and 3 a proper flash of SuperSU is shown, note that system-less mode is specified and the boot image is patched, this is what should occur. It is normal for it to loop once or twice, but that is it, first boot could take 10 minutes plus.
Notes on Nougat/Android 7... At this time this method of rooting does not work properly on the official Nougat ROM for this device, it causes WiFi issues and interface problems (settings crashes, etc) and with no complete factory image there is no work fix other than to restore your Nandroid backup to pre-root status. If you wish to play with this method and try it, your on your own, I will try to assist but as I stated earlier I do not own this device. To my knowledge as of this posting, there is no working root on stock Android 7 on this device.
I can confirm this worked on my formerly-amazon XT1625 16GB G4. You will get an error about not being able to mount /data, but it proceeds and works anyway.
This is exactly what was missing! I rooted as normal with the latest SuperSU expecting it to just work like on other phones/tablets, but yeah. Before specifying systemless, it hung on boot. After following your instructions it booted right up. Thanks!
Also if you setup adaptable storage with your SDcard, so it works like internal storage, TWRP can't find any files on the SDcard. You will need to revert to non-adaptable storage for TWRP to find the supersu ZIP file.
And make sure you're using the latest SuperSU-- I accidentally tried a very old version which did not work!
Scared Noobie
I should probably be posting this on some noobie forum, but I read Motorola's "Unlock Your Bootloader" and it scared the **** out of me. Can someone give me a ballpark figure of the chances of bricking the phone? (I know this particular phone is new, but I'm just looking for a rough estimate. How common is it generally to brick a phone just from unlocking the bootloader?)
Appreciate this. I miss the old days where it was all simple. Everything was flashable. Never had to flash back to something or re flash.

It's about as common as bring bricked from performing a factory reset, because that is the only part that really does much... So extremely rare, but the possibility is always there. Remember to have patience, the resets and wipes can take what seems like forever.
The dangerous part is what you do after the bootloader is unlocked.

Very nice and just what I needed. Worked perfectly on my Amazon Moto G4 with ads. I got no errors or messages but booted fine-got caught in a boot loop once as the SuperSU file explains after it installs. Boots in less then a minute first time.

I rooted my G4 in the normal way using supersu 2.46, and now boot hangs on the white Moto screen. (advice from another site)
I am waiting for a SD card to update to 2.76 with the systemless command.
Is there anything else I can do in the interim, I tried deleting the contents of /supersu from Twrp and that hasnt made any difference. I have also wiped data and caches.
thanks .. Mike

I don't know... I don't own the G4 *yet* but possibly in the near future now that I know the Amazon version can have the ads striped out easily enough... I would do a nandorid and try it, if it fails, restore and use the 32-bit version.
Someone else may have a better answer for you.

Well, I was planning on joining all of you with your Moto G4's soon, or possibly the G4 Plus... but since the Amazon version can't be unlocked anymore I got cold feet, and today Best Buy was running a special on the Moto X Pure 32GB edition for $249 (My Best Buy Elite members only), I pulled the trigger on that one instead. No change in helping though, I didn't have the device to begin with so I will continue to assist with this thread as I can.

LG G Pad X 2 10.1 UK750 Root ?

Hi I want to know if anyone knows how too root the LG G Pad X 2 10.1 UK750 model and if not then if I can get a hold of a developer who can help. Thank You
Bump-I want to root this thing too, it's a pretty good pad if I could only get the LG crap off of it
Just bought one at US Cellular
I would also like to know this. Seems like a decent tablet for the price I got it
I can supply a system dump I believe, if it will help. If anyone finds anything- please, post it here. Having what few scraps we can find in one spot has to help.
We have to know the bootloader can be unlocked and are all fastboot commands stay intact.
Here's a system dump if that'll help at all.

I can get into download mode, and adb works. Fastboot doesn't seem to be there. I suppose it might be possible to factory sign a modified .kdz? I don't know enough to know if that's possible, but I'll test it if you try and make one
LG Gpad X II 10.1 REALLY want to ROOT!!
Ok, more stuff. Here's a stock boot image and a patched boot image I extracted with magisk. Can anyone figure out a way to put these together and sign it such that it will install? I really want to root this thing. I am willing to try just about anything that stands a chance of working. If you're a dev and willing to at least give it a try, let me know and I'm ready to go at it. If I brick it trying I'm not going to be worried about it-it's nearly useless to me without root.
I notice the stock .Marshmallow .kdz is out in the world now...is there any way to factory sign a modified .kdz and install that, maybe?

Hiya!
I'm a decent bugtester, but definitely not a Developer..I'd be more than happy to bugtest anything installable if someone can come up with it. I did find I can get into EDL mode..but have no idea how to work with it.
Also gonna bump this, I don't even need permanent root or anything like that. I only want to change one line in the build prop so that I can use all apps in dual window (persist.splitwindow.support_all), and setprop did not work.
I've sat over this device for hours at a time, trying every obscure one click root tool, method, and app, to no avail. Strange for a device with a 2016 security patch.
I will test anything you guys can find, regardless of brick potential. I need that split window goodness.

This specific device and Chipset is fairly new and there's very little on the forum that's specific to your device.
With that stated...
You have a Mediatek MT6739 (64 Bit) device that can be very helpful in that aspect.
Though I had located a few threads that won't be very helpful for you but, the following thread is about the best that your possibly going to find for your device at this point in time.

It does take some time for developments to pop up on the forum for newer Mediatek Chipsets but, where there's a developer (with the same Chipset device), there's always a way depending on the level of difficulty.
I wish you the best of luck with your search!

I'm also looking for that. But if I can get TWRP on it I'd probably try SU.
How did you get to install the TWRP? I found a few posts but was apprehensive about whether I can use SPFT to flash original stock ROM if things go wrong. I suppose that would be the easiest way.
For what I paid for the phone, it's a decent enough device.
Using SD card as internal memory always result in the total capacity being reported wrongly..256GB becomes 512GB with 50% occupied, 200GB becomes 256GB with 64GB occupied. Still waiting for their tech support to reply but unlikely they would.
Cheers!
I have rooted it several times and flashed the stock image several times too without a problem. Haven't used SU though I used Magisk.

I do not have your issue with storage but my wireless charging mat today stopped charging but still lights up. Phone will still charge via cable. Trying to get a replacement mat.
I installed using SP flash tools on windows and Linux just to see the difference.
If you do a Google for Install TWRP ulefone armor x then you will get some information and relevant files.
Unlocking the bootloader via ADB is straightforward on Windows and Linux too. And then relocking it.

im also facing the same issue... kindly someone help.. ive explained my issue below:
Can someone confirm? My device is encrypted by default, so whenever i install TWRP it says to decrypt device. I tried the pattern, changed it to password, and pin still my device doesnt decrypt in twrp. I feel its a twrp bug, because when i set the device to ask pattern during boot, the same pattern/pin/password is accepted, but not in twrp.
I want to know 3 things:
1. Are your devices encrypted by default (i dont remember encrypting my device, I dont know how it is encrypted)
2. Are you facing this same issue of entering password when you reboot into recovery?
3. What is the purpose of the boot.img in the twrp zip? am i required to flash it before flashing the recovery, or does it remove encryption?

In the folder containing the TWRP recovery there are 3 files, boot.img, scatter, and recovery. You only flash recovery, you have flashed the boot image, ensure the checkbox is unticked after loading from scatter in SP tools. That is what I think you have done to get that result.
Follow the guide here. I did it a few times before success as I followed a guide from another site.

You ignore the password and change the language to English from Russian. Just don't enter a password at all. The recovery won't stick as Android replaces it when you reboot. After you've completed other steps maybe OEM unlocking then it stays, or so I read somewhere.

That's what I did, using the downloaded scatter file. Was experimenting.

Used the same guide. But TWRP came up with the decrypt data issue.
Did you have that issue?

All of them are encrypted by default now. The password in TWRP should be ignored and just change the language and select storage etc.

im also facing the same issue... kindly someone help.. ive explained my issue below:

Yes all are encrypted.
Yes I get the same request for password which I ignored and selected language and carried on.
I do not know why boot.img is included it just gets in the way.
After installing TWRP unlocking OEM bootloader and all the rest including rooting it I decided it would be better to wait for a new ROM. All we need is a working TWRP and an unlocked bootloader to flash a new ROM and we have that. It doesn't work very smoothly and I felt it could be better which is why I went back to stock.
When I posted this request I didn't imagine others would try installing Magisk etc, waste of time really as you won't stay with it either. Best wait for a ROM I think.

Im also unlocked and flashed twrp. I ignored the encryption message and proceeded, hit the storage sizes show 0, and neither can i access the storage to flash anything nor can i take backups. can you go to settings>security in your device, and tell me if your encryption says enabled? Tia

Mine is the same encryption is enabled. I select external SD storage and I am shown the contents using the same procedure as yourself, I cannot tell you why this is so. I am using the same technique, same phone, same settings, same TWRP, maybe we have different SD card?
That is all I can think of by way of an explanation. It works perfectly for me. I also made a backup which I can select and restore without a problem.
