aptX on note4 possible? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

ive read conflicting reports.. some saying that its physically impossible on snapdragon 625 devices, and others stating that its possible on unsupported devices with specific roms. Anyone care to shed some light for me?

aptX is a proprietary codec; inclusion to a device requires the vendor to pay licensing fees to Qualcomm. So, if vendor doesn't do that, we shouldn't do it either.
Sent from my Redmi Note 4 using XDA Labs

Yes,it is possible. I had aptX working on nougat but it just refuses to work on oreo for some reason.
If you re on nougat just look up for aptx.zip somewhere on xda ..oneplus 3 forums if I remember corectly.

ok understood!
ive just built a nice new high end soundsystem, and included an apt-x bluetooth receiver.. would be a crying shame if my phone didnt support it. I ordered this phone 2 days ago, assuming casually that all modern bluetooth devices would support aptx.

Nope, they actually don't. There are many new/old phones(even flagships) that don't support APTX
I've got aptx working on oreo as well. You just have to flash a custom rom and then flash aptx from here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...-aptx-aptxhd-oreo-beta-25-16-op-3-3t-t3690363

Thanks everyone. seems positive.
one thing i dont understand. if its just a codec, which needs licensing, why do qualcomm specify it as only being supported by certain cpus?
see here under "audio technology" :
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/comparison
snapdragon 625 notably doesnt list aptx

[Aptx was already working on my Redmi 2, 8GB ROM, 1GB RAM (Model HM 2014811) after installing CM 14.1 & Aptx through TWRP, (but it was not working on MIUI 6, CM11)]
In case of Redmi Note 4 the following method is successful.
Existing conditions:
Phone: Redmi Note 4 (India, i.e. Snapdragon), MIUI 10 from mido_global_images_8.7.26_20180726.0000.00_7.0_global_9529295baa.tgz
Fresh installed without setting any screen lock, password, finger print , google account Mi account (this is suspected to lead to data corruption, if it happens we have to flash above MIUI10 full fastboot ROM again, hence all files better to be saved on external SD Card)
Windows : Windows 10 v1707, 64 bit , Pda net installed.
Apps / programs required : may be googled and downloaded
Major Activities Involved
A. Unlocking of boot loader
B. (i) Installation of TWRP v3.2.2.0-mido.img (recovery suitable to Redmi Note 4 SnapDragon)

and select "Flash all" in MiFlash then press flash and sit tight [ never ever disconnect the phone during flashing or you may lose it for ever better to use a laptop for power disconnection matters ]
It takes around 300-400 s to flash
When its done press power key for seconds and it resets
U are ok now ! ( wait around 20 min to see the least MIUI8 )
Please Keep me Update!
How to use semi-QuickCharge ?
Caution :
Redmi 3/Pro stock kernel do not support QC but it can use maximum 1.6 A of 2.0 A .
but why is that ?
according to battery safety policy it cant be so warm during charging so PMU will decrease the current in order to make the battery cooler. it s kinda related to PMU parameters ( some kernels can modify that unfortunately Redmi 3/pro stock kernel do not support PMU modification )
so how could I reach 1.6A ? ( in normal operation you may reach to 0.8 A)
***flash the least version of MIUI 8 first***
1. Install ampere app
2.Turn on Airplane mode
3.Force stop all background app
4.Run Ampere and plug the charger
5.Use the stock adapter (5V @2A) and stock cable
6.Try to cool it down while its charging ! ( I used Ice pack for that) (dont cool it so much keep it around 20 Celsius degree or you may damage the battery )
7.Then you reach 1.6A current (in the optimum situation)
*** Simply ! Try to keep the phone cool while its charging ! ***According to sciences You cant charge the phone [0 to 100] less than 160 Minutes!
So dont blame the phone!
Try to create a new kernel !

23:05: Flashing ...
23:25: Flashed, booted, configured - now testing
00:30: Everything looks so far so good. I am currently not using any SIM Card. Wifi is stable, translations are good, ROM is fast and responsible. FM Radio is working great.
00:35: I compared the Stock ROM NON-HLOS.bin with the NON-HLOS.bin of this build. They are identical. I hope to get a Indian NON-HLOS.bin to compare with my stock rom version to figure out how to enable LTE Band 20, which is very important for germany. Any hint is very welcome!
08:00: Flashed SuperSU latest build with TWRP, working great here.
Conclusion so far:
- ROM is very stable (out of the box), no crashes so far
- ROM is very fast. Booting is a lot faster than any other ROM before and feels very smooth. Congrats!

The made by ManhIT does not require you to unlock your bootloader, has no Chinese apps, etc. Check this post and the whole thread.

True that, if you probably exclude CM, because this one still holds MI account and other few similar things (which I never user for instance).

You should go for the ManhIT build for sure. It is build after the xiaomi.eu but it is tweked a bit.

Not sure what you mean but I can confirm that my bootloader is locked even with the ManhIT version, which is not an official build like the one found at xiaomi.eu

Guide to issues with flashing unlocked Mi8 and likely other USB-C based Xiaomi models

I have previously unlocked and modded several Xiaomi phones. However recently I got a MI8 and what I thought would be simple was quite problematic. Its solved now which is why I am writing this guide to help someone else in a similar situation. I'm not an expert but the issues I had could be relevant to other USB-C Xiaomi Qualcomm based phones from mid 2018 and later:
NOTES:
1) AMD Ryzen PC with B350 chipset would not connect in any fastboot mode procedure at all with Mi8 in my case. It could not unlock the phone or flash anything with fastboot. Go with Intel.
2) Use a good USB-C cable. One of mine worked for MTP transfers but did not work with fastboot stuff
3) If you get a request in TWRP to provide your password for decryption, this refers to the PIN used in Android security
4) If you have not unlocked your Xiaomi phone you must do this first before trying any of the steps below. There are many guides for this.
5) Follow the steps EXACTLY to avoid boot loops etc.
Issue 1: The commonly used ADB and Fastboot tools fail to flash TWRP recovery (Thanks to khanhdx https://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=7791242)
1) It is necessary to use Xiaomi's specific version of fastboot in their miflash_unlock tool.
2) Put phone in fastboot mode and connect to PC.
3) Go into the miflash_unlock directory which was used to successfully unlock the phone
4) Put your TWRP image file in that miflash_unlock directory
5) While mouse cursor is in the directory, Right click while holding down SHIFT and select 'Open PowerShell session here'
6) Type 'cmd' then Enter
7) Type 'fastboot devices' to see if fastboot sees your device.
8) If a device code is displayed then USB drivers could be adequate so try 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img' (insert actual name of img file)
9) If either no device code shows up or the recovery flash fails you will need to update USB drivers
10) First uninstall any other previously installed ADB USB drivers
11) Download Xiaomi MiFlash tool at https://www.xiaomiflash.com/ which contains drivers which work
11) Before installing the drivers with the MIFlash tool, it is recommended to boot with 'Disable Signed Driver Enforcement' enabled first. Google that if needed
12) The driver installer in MiFlash is wonky but it works. Continue to say 'Yes' to all the weird driver install warnings and long latency delays. It gets there slowly and confirms successful installation one driver at a time
13) Repeat Steps 5 through 8
14) If the above doesn't work, take a look at the driver in Windows Device Manager under Android ADB Device. It should be signed by Xiaomi not Microsoft. Also try different USB ports and/or remove other USB devices.
Issue 2: Custom ROM such as LineageOS or Pixel Experience will fail to flash in TWRP with "Error 7" stating that you don't meet the minimal Xiaomi developer firmware version requirement
1) In my case starting out with the latest Xiaomi global developer ROM and flashing the latest developer Xiaomi firmware from https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/#stable did not help meet the requirement and Error #7 would not go away. According to some sources such things do happen with official Xiaomi ROM's.
2) You can do the solution mentioned here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/how-to/guide-how-to-flash-poco-f1-roms-t3911336 but this is a hack and not a true solution as you will have to do this every time you update the ROM, and the phone might not work right as the dev's at LineageOS and others know what they are doing when they put in those insist lines.
3) A real solution is to meet the firmware requirement by flashing the latest Xiaomi EU weekly/developer ROM (i.e. NOT official Xiaomi) from https://xiaomi.eu/community/ before flashing the custom ROM of choice (Thanks to Xiaomi EU forums)
4) Go to TWRP and wipe everything except USB OTG option. Format data! Reboot to Recovery!
5) Transfer downloaded xiaomi.eu ROM zip file to phone via MTP and install it with TWRP. Reboot to System!
6) Allow phone to initialize it's first Xiaomi boot fully. When the MiUI welcome screen comes you can stop there. Boot into fastboot mode
7) Repeat steps in 'Issue 1' above to re-flash TWRP recovery back to the phone
8) Repeat Step 4
9) Transfer custom ROM zip and optional GAPPS zip files to phone via MTP and install with TWRP.
any reasons why this flashing and fastboot doesnt work properly with amd based pc/laptop.it is really hard for me..

Redmi note 6 pro standard rom fix reboot loop issue without loosing data ?

Hello,
this is my first post,
my redmi note 6 pro has rebooted by himself without any reason... it doesn't reboot since this bug...
I have a lot of photos of my kids so don't want to loose this photos and videos.
- worse solution would be to "wipe all datas" under recovery mode and after using a recovery software under windows.
- i've opened it and unplug battery but doesn't change anything.
- bootloader is locked, usb debug is not activated...
- i 've tried ADB but i'have a message "shell closed"and Fastboot "lock state" so i don't think can go further this way...
- i've found the EDL test points for the redmi note 6 pro and the edl method...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KyYp_lTR0k but xiaomi seems to have lock the flash in edl mode... and if i do it, it will wipe all datas...
The best method ?
I"ve seen this thread on this forum !
"Unlock bootloader without losing data | Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus" :good:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5/how-to/unlock-bootloader-losing-data-t3864667
the goal would be to do the same with the redmi note 6 pro....
If it works i could use TWRP or the orange recovery project https://forum.xda-developers.com/re.../official-orangefox-recovery-project-t3807479
Using the TWRP file manager to backup photos on an sdcard or in windows if the the device is visible in windows.
Do you have any ideas or other ideas ?
many thanks for your help !!

[RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL] TWRP-3.4.1 [ Redmi Note 9]

Same steps as previous Xiaomi models
1- First officially apply to unlock bl
2 Download and flash twrp as needed
Be cautious when brushing the machine, at your own risk
RECOVERY information:
Name version: Redmi Note 9 Special Edition TWRP Chinese and English modified optimized version
File package name: TWRP-3.4.1B-Redmi Note 9.7z
Introduction:
The author synchronizes the latest source code of TWRP. In the omni environment, the official kernel file is used to write the device code.
Some bugs were fixed by modifying the source code, some functions were added and improved, and finally compiled.
Thanks for the enthusiastic engine oil test.
This RECOVERY is stable and practical, with various functions. The author has measured many times and recommended to use it when flashing. No major bugs have been found.
I haven't tested it comprehensively. I hope that if you find any bugs, please give me feedback in time. Thanks~~~~
Brushing is risky and requires careful operation. Brushing is a personal voluntary act, and the author does not bear any problems caused by brushing into this rec.
important:
1. This rec supports automatic decryption of data partitions, and encrypted data can be used normally under rec without formatting.
Please don't flash the unknown rec randomly, it may cause the data to be unable to be decrypted, and the data will be lost.
The official default is to encrypt the data for the lock screen password, and you need to enter the lock screen password to enter twrp.
2. Theoretically, this rec supports swiping into the official original full amount of cards, but will cover twrp.
3. Bootloader must be unlocked to flash into the third-party rec, please unlock BL.
4. Built-in root system / remove root function, through the root system, you can enable the system to obtain root permissions.
5. Function to prevent being overwritten by official rec (any one is enough): prevent overwriting of TWRP, root system, etc.
6. It is recommended to turn off the avb2.0 verification after the official package of the card is swiped, otherwise it may cause the system to be damaged due to the root boot.
7. If the boot prompt system is damaged due to root, etc., you can flash the boot.img on the fastboot line or flash the closed vbmeta to restore normal.
Please use my own one-click flashing tool to flash in, otherwise, there is a mess, don’t ask me
[Known bugs]:
1. There is a certain probability of entering the first screen of twrp card, forced restart, re-swipe or re-enter twrp should be able to solve.
Update on 2020.06.09:
1. Some optimizations
2. There is a certain probability of entering the first screen of twrp card, forced restart, re-swipe or re-enter twrp should be able to solve.
Content of the first edition of 2020.06.06:
1. Based on the twrp source code, I modified and adapted the Android 10 compilation system and named the version number as [3.4.1b] to show the difference, indicating the unofficial version number
2. Support dynamic partitioning of Android 10 system
3. Support Android 10 system data decryption (password is the lock screen password)
4. Adapt user space fastboot of Android 10 system,
5. Support card swipe official complete package
6. Support the card swipe magisk official card swipe package, you can also use twrp's built-in root system (magisk20.3)
7. Support FBE multi-user decryption, such as mobile phone avatar, application avatar and the like are multiple users. Data can be backed up normally by other users without decryption, solving the problem that some oils cannot be backed up
8. It is recommended to turn off the avb2.0 verification after the official package of the card is swiped, otherwise it may cause the system to be booted due to root and prompt system damage.
9. If the boot prompt system is damaged due to root, etc., you can flash boot.img on the fastboot line or flash vbmeta to turn off the verification to restore normal.
10. There is a certain probability that the first screen of the card will be swiped in after a certain probability, and it will be forced to restart and re-swipe it again.
The download file will be updated on the second floor

If you ROOT, you must turn off avb2.0 verification in TWRP, otherwise it is not the system

MI Unlock doesn't see my phone when in fastboot mode.
Doesn't matter if I do it manually (power + vol down) or through "adb reboot fastboot".
Any solution?

Yes I do, but I figured it out.
I had an unknown device in my device manager "Other Devices > Android", and it couldn't find drivers because I was using a slimmed down version of Windows 10, which also blocked Windows update & driver updates through windows servers.
Used another device which has stock Windows installed and works fine. I now just need to wait about 150 hours to be able to unlock c:
