[ROOT] Custom Icon Grid & Toggles pannel (v2) ... - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi all.
After a lot of research and try/error, I've figured out how to set a custom icon grid for Stock MIUI Launcher and a custom number of columns on Toggles Pannel.
After using EPIC Rom, I've jumped to new Oreo Global Beta 8.1.18, and I wanted the same aspect on launcher and notification toggles.
In my case, I like a 5x7 Icon Grid on the launcher... and a 5/5 columns (portrait/landscape) Toggles Pannel.
In order to set this mod you must be rooted.
There are two ways to apply the mod: manually putting the files on the proper folder, or flashing a .zip on TWRP.
The attached .zip Grid&Toggles_v2.zip contains two files: com.miui.home and framework-miui-res
You must put them with your "root explorer" (I use MiXplorer, and it directly puts the files with needed permissions and ownership) into /system/media/theme/default/ folder with:
- 0644 permissions (rw-r--r--)
- owner root 0
- group root 0
Then you only have to reboot in order to apply changes.
If you prefer to flash it, just flash CustomGrid&Toggles_v2.zip from TWRP.
Custom: If you prefer another numbers, you can modify the files (com.miui.home and framework-miui-res) by yourself:
- Each file is a .zip file with the extension removed.
- Add .zip suffix to the files
- Inside each file there is a file named theme_values.xml that contain the overlays to apply to your framework/launcher.
- To change Launcher Icon Grid, on com.miui.home case, you must change the following values:
Code:
<integer name="config_cell_count_x">5</integer>
<integer name="config_cell_count_y">7</integer>
- First value is the number of columns, and second value is the number of rows.
- Once modified and saved, it must be packed again in .zip format and rename the file to com.miui.home without extension.
- To change Notifications Toggles Pannel, on framework-miui-res case, you must change the following values:
Code:
<integer name="edit_fixed_position">14</integer>
<integer name="expanded_status_bar_toggles_column">5</integer>
<integer name="expanded_status_bar_toggles_land_column">5</integer>
<integer name="expanded_status_bar_toggles_single_page_column">5</integer>
<integer name="expanded_status_bar_toggles_single_page_land_column">5</integer>
- First value is number of showed toggles (apart from "Sort" toggle).
- Second and fourth values are the columns number on portrait mode.
- Third and fifth values are for landscape mode.
- In portrait mode, it originally has 4 columns with 3 rows -> 12 toggles including "Sort".
- In landscape mode, it originally has 6 columns with 2 rows -> 12 toggles including "Sort".
- According to this, "edit_fixed_position" is originally set to 11, and the value is consistent with both modes.
- Take into account this: If you want 5 columns in portrait mode, you must set "edit_fixed_position" to 5x3-1= 14... 5 columns by 3 rows (fixed right now) minus the "Sort" toggle. If you want 6 columns, you must set "edit_fixed_position" to 6x3-1= 17.
- If "edit_fixed_position" value is larger than expected, it should create additional rows with toggles. Let configure it with 5/6 columns (5 columns in portrait, 6 columns in landscape)... it should have only two rows on landscape (fixed setting), 6x2=12 toggles... but "edit_fixed_position" is larger than this value (14) so it needs a third row to place three additional toggles.
- Once modified and saved, it must be packed again in .zip format and rename the file to framework-miui-res without extension.
If you want to flash this custom files from TWRP, you must put them inside the flashable zip and replace existing.
The aim of the mod is to use it on original MIUI ROMs (because EPIC, xiaomi.eu, etc have their own methods to customize this things). I'm using it over Global Beta 8.1.26, but it should work over every ROM, Global or Chinesse, Stable or Beta, MIUI9 or MIUI8.
Remember always to make a nandroid backup to avoid problems. Just in case, if your phone doesn't boot up after adding the files, it's very easy to repair it.
- Reboot on TWRP.
- Flash CustomG&TRemover.zip

Changelog:
v0: Initial release
v2: Icon title text ajusted to avoid overlapping, flashable .zip files to install/remove.
Best regards!

How to revert back

- Flashing CustomG&TRemover.zip
OR
- Dirty Reflashing your actual ROM
OR
- Deleting /system/media/theme/default/com.miui.home and /system/media/theme/default/framework-miui-res
PD: I'm using it avery day with all the MIUI OREO Beta Global updates without problem.

Is rooted your phone?
The file to remove it only delete those files...
Have you tried to reflash the same ROM over it?
It's very strange that behaviour.
Best regards.

it's functional on the Mimix 2s?Tnk..

I cannot confirm it but I think that it should work.
I used the same files over a Redmi 4 Prime.
We are talking about two files added. As simple as remove them...
PD: On 8.5.11 I've removed framework-miui-res because it seems that MIUI has changed framework variables and it doesn't work (but doesn't broke anything).

ok,tnk,i can delete res abaut zip?

Yeah, if you remove the file from inside the .zip it won't be installed despite it remains on script.
Also you can flash the .zip "as is" and then delete the file using file explorer from TWRP.
To say that boot with the .res file is not going to do anything bad... it only doesn't work on 8.5.11 ROM.

Are you using it for work or for your main internet connection at home?

What about MIUI 10?

Gird options working on latest MIUI10 Beta... no way with toggles pannel.

Hey thanks for your post. Can you please explain how to change number of columns when pull down notification shade but not expand it?
So when swipe down once it shows the minimized view with 1 row of toggles.
How can we increase number of columns there? What is the themes xml values for not-expanded columns?

Hey great work! I will try this one soon.
Sidenote: what is the name of the volume bar .png? I could not find it in the framework!
Followed instructions and it worked perfectly... was my first successful adb push! I liked the colors and icons a little bit more on this one for some reason.
Is there a reason the notifications and preferences icons don't have the same color scheme? Aside from that, really enjoy all the icons and colors!

yea... the notifications icon that launcher pro uses for its settings menu is inside the launcher pro app... i will be theme-ing that and a whole lot of other google apps to go with this...
@olieebur the volume bar colors are in framework\res\drawable\progress_horizontal.xml and the .png is named progressbar_indeterminate1, 2, and 3
also this is not perfect.... let me know some bugs you find and i will try to fix it... and as obsessionXYZ adds updates to his theme i will also add his fixes.
EDIT: Nevermind I misread what SuperOneClick was being used for. Carry on

Yes... and no... you can but you would have a 90% chance of a boot loop. You see... when copying and pasting with root exeplorer,... root exeplore has a tendency of not setting the same permissions as the file it replaces. So if the permissions are not the same then you will get a boot loop. You can change the permissions manually.... but some times when replacing the framework, the system reboots its self... leaving you unable to change the permissions.

Maybe you can copy both files to, let's say, /system, change their permissions to the right ones, and then do the copy. I usually do that in other devices and it ended successfully. Unfortunately, I don't have my Atrix with me (yet) to test it out. Maybe it works, maybe not. Do it at your own risk, and of course, report back!

ah ok, that must have been what caused my first boot loop (the mismatched permissions) it was pre-sbf so i returned the phone for another one. Next time i'm feeling frisky i'll give it a shot (for whatever reason i suck at adb)

Do NOT install this on 1.57. That update is not deodexed yet and you will have issues, and you phone could potentially brick.
I just realized/found out about it being due to the deodexed issue.
Too late to not put this on 1.57 though for me, its there. Haven't noticed any other issues, other than the clock text, but i'm still learning.
Thanks.
Quick update 2...
- HoneyGlow 2.0 will hopfully be out on sunday.

[Guide][MIUI] Custom Font MTZs (Super Easy!)

So, as I've promised in the MIUI thread, I'm creating a small and simple guide on how you can make your own font MTZ. Sense users, I will be creating a similar guide for you very soon.
It's not actually all that hard, and if you know me and my guides, you'll know I'm going to make an easy process ridiculously easy.
Stuff We'll be Needing:
My stock file: Download
WinRAR/7Zip/Extracting Utility
Fonts that you want to use
Notepad (or any text editor, I like Notepad++)
A few minutes of time
So to begin with, let's start with the fonts. You'll want to find a font that you like, and it may or may not look good on our screens. It will just be trial and error. Also, if you're going to want to preserve "bold" text (meaning unread items in GMail being bold), you'll need a font set that contains a bold typeface as well. Also, they MUST be in ttf format.
Let's begin.
1. Clone and Rename Our Font Files
Assuming you've already downloaded your fonts, create a folder anywhere on your computer called "Font Workshop". (You don't have to do it this way, but I suggest you do so that you can keep it organized). Then, in that folder, paste your fonts, and then create a folder called "Renamed Fonts", as I have done in the screenshot below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now then, as you can see, the font I have picked comes in three different variations; regular, light, and bold. Your font may not come in different variations, if it doesn't, ignore this part. If it does, think about it. How "heavy" do you prefer your fonts? The reason why we ask this question is because MIUI has two main fonts which get used the most. The regular font (Arial), and its bold version (Arial-Bold, which apps like GMail use to signify unread items).
So your use could be the following;
1) Light font for regular text, regular font for "unread" items.
2) Light, regular, OR bold for all text
3) (Most common) regular fonts for regular text, and bold fonts for bold text.
In my example, I'm going to use option 3, because it is the most common. So, for the purpose of this writing, MIUI's two main fonts are Arial.ttf and Arial-Bold.ttf. Keep that in mind as we go on.
WARNING: Your file manager may not be showing you the full file extension. If using Windows, use this guide to ensure that you have them turned on.
So, I have my 3 fonts, now I need to rename them accordingly for MIUI to understand them. I only intend on using the regular and the bold versions, so what I will do is rename "Sansation_Bold.ttf" as "Arial-Bold.ttf". I will then rename "Sansation_Regular.ttf" as "Arial.ttf". This means my finished product will tell MIUI to use Sansation_Bold anywhere that Arial-Bold is called for, and it will use Sansation_Regular anywhere that Arial is called for.
If you do NOT have a bold-specific font file, make two copies of the same font, renaming one of them Arial.ttf and the other Arial-Bold.ttf.
Makes sense? Good, let's continue.
Now that our two font files are renamed, let's put them in our "Renamed Fonts" folder.
2. Create the proper folder structure
Alright, now remember that zip I had you download before? The MIUI_FONT_MTZ.zip. Extract that somewhere on your desktop, so that we can see the files inside it, so that this is what we see in a new window:
Now, open up the "fonts" folder and paste in our renamed fonts from our "Renamed Fonts" folder.
Now, let's go up one folder, where we see the "description.xml" file. Open it up with Notepad (don't just double click it, by default .xml files will open up with Internet Explorer). I'm using NotePad++, which is why the colors look different. You don't need to download NotePad++, notepad will do the job just fine. When you open it up, this is what we see:
This is the file that tells MIUI what the theme package is for, and allows for you to easily use it from the theme manager. Fill in the names as shown (but be careful not to touch anything but the highlighted letters). So, now that you've done that, it should look something similar to this:
Once you've finished, hit Ctrl-S to save it, and close your text editor. Now before we continue, you will notice there is a "preview" folder, that is how people create the "theme preview" images that you see when browsing through your themes on your phone. For the purposes of this process, I'm not going to document how to use that (partly because you don't have any preview to put in there, and partly because I'm not 100% sure what the filename requirements are) So let's ignore that for now.
3. Create our Font MTZ and apply it!
Highlight all the files as shown, and right click on them so that we can create our archive:
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. When the window pops up, select "ZIP" instead of RAR, and make sure the Compression level is set to "Store". Any compression will corrupt the font mtz:
Now, once we've created the archive, we need to rename it as an mtz. Right click on it, and click "Rename". Delete the ".zip" part, and make it ".mtz", so that it looks like the screenshot below.
Press Enter. This warning will come up, saying that changing the file extension may render the file useless. Simply press "Yes".
Awesome, now that we have our MTZ, we want to drag on drop it on to our SD card. Put it in /MIUI/theme, as shown below:
Awesome, now unmount the the SD card, and on your phone (from the homescreen) press Menu > Settings > Theme. At the bottom, tap the button that says "Customize". Find the "Font" entry, and tap on it. You will see your font with the name you gave it. Tap on it, and hit Apply, and boom! There you go! All finished. You can replicate the process as many times as you want, making different fonts as you please.
BUT REMEMBER: ALWAYS REBOOT AFTER APPLYING A FONT. You will have garbled text in certain apps until you do.
My post. Just in case there needs to be further additions or corrections.
Good stuff bro!
Fixed a rather embarrassing issue
Nice tutorial, but I have a couple of questions. Why are you renaming the files to Arial? I see the part that says that substitutes one font for another, bit why Arial? Is that the default font in MIUI? What font names are usable? In my case I'm trying to replace the Chinese character set with Japanese since a few things are off if you don't. I have fonts from stock android and DroidSansJapanese.ttf but not sure with the naming scheme you've outlined what I should name it to.
Nice tutorial...........

Thanks for this guide. Are these files compatible with MIUI V4? Because lot of fonts in MIUI themes online leads to boot loop in my MIUI V4!!

Is it possible to change the top status bar from grey to black when using a program? Example, in screen shot attached, the top status bar is grey in colour instead of black when using tapatalk. Facebook had the sane experience too. Thanks.

Keyboard ASOP 4.2.2/4.3/4.4 - updated Oct.20.2014
I was about to start a new thread on Google (ASOP) keyboard(s) but since Rotary Parts has already done that I'll post it all here.
There seems to be much confusion around, about what Google (AOSP) keyboards are and why they are different - I'm not going to go into details here but they are mostly just different versions ported from different Google devices. Here are all 5 different ones (find attached the respective files):
1. 4.2.2 AOSP with WHITE second row of characters (zip file, flashable, installs as system app) - download here
2. 4.2.2 AOSP with GREY second row of characters (zip file, flashable, installs as system app) - download here
3. Google 4.2 no second row of characters (zip file, flashable, installs as system app) - download here
4. Google 4.2 no second row of characters (apk, installs as any other user's app) - download here
5. 4.3 AOSP with BLUE second row of characters (recommended - zip file, flashable, installs as system app) - extracted from Slim ROM - download here
Note:
1. All come with built-in swipe gestures.
2. Most themes around install/apply color themes on 3 and 4, Furthermore, most will replace your original apk when themed, so if you have initially installed either 1 or 2, a theme will either replace it for a themed 3/4 or nothing at all will happen!!!!!)
3. Applying themes (generally speaking) may only work if you have a deodexed ROM.
4. You'll find around some Google keyboards with dedicated numbers row (like Samsung's) or light background, but those are custom modified.
How To: (Regardless of the method you'll need root)
Method 1: flash the included (flashable) zip file from recovery (TWRP or CM)
Method 2 (recommended): copy the necessary files and reboot
2.1. Download one of the attached zip files.
2.2. Extract/save the two files from "system/app" folder and one file from "system/lib" folder, from the zip.
2.3. Go to the system/lib directory on the phone and make a backup of the original "libjni_latinime.so" file by adding ".bak" at the end - it'll look like this: "libjni_latinime.so.bak"
2.4. Copy the two files from system/app, (extracted in step#3) to your phone in /system/app and the one file from system/lib, to your phone in /system/lib.
2.5. Set the permissions on all the copied files to 644 (rw-r--r--). You may soft brick your phone if you skip this!!!
2.6. Reboot and enjoy.
I couldn't find a screenshot for #2 but if you're looking at #3 (second image) you can imagine what the GREY second row of characters looks like.

Apparently I cannot upload the files as my submission "could not be processed because a security token was missing". I will upload the files as soon as the admin gets back to me or they solve this strange occurrence.There also seems to be a newly imposed max size on all various files to be uploaded and apparently the max allowable size for a zip file is 8MB (while they are all about 14MB)

If you have the apk no need to flash - it installs as user's app but if you have the zip file you'll have to flash it, case in which it installs as system app.

What appears as a "could not be processed because a security token was missing" seems to be just a fancy wording for "files no larger than 8MB" - which sucks. Does anybody have any suggestions for another (free) server where larger files can be uploaded and shared here? (Dropbox is not an option since the account gets flagged and restricted if used as such)

Android 10-Various Mods-Zip installer-creates Magisk module.

I am no longer going to make aroma installers. The zip method is very similar and should work whether or not you are flashing modules as long as one of the modules does not mod the framework-res.apk or SystemUIGoogle.apk. Download the zip installer. Unzip it into a folder on your internal sdcard. Find that folder once you are in TWRP.
This what it looks like. Inside those folders are the zips you will flash. Hit the back button in TWRP and go to the next one you want to flash. Continue until you are done then flash complete installation. Nothing is flashed to your system until you flash "complete installation".

The developer of Active edge gave me permission to use his base so that people would not have to make a choice between his and my mods. All credit for this goes to him. You must delete the active edge sense module and use one of my active edge modules. If it doesn't say active edge then it isn't active edge sense compatible. If there is an issue with edge sense after flashing, do not contact edge sense op with issues. He does not troubleshoot modified versions of his mod (and neither do I).
ADB Installer Instructions-Root is required
1. Flash one of the SystemUI Bases First. They provide the necessary smali files and public ID's for everything to work.
2. FLASH ALL THE MODS YOU WANT. ONCE YOU DONE WITH EVERYTHING, FLASH THE "COMPLETE INSTALLATION" Option. This will create a Magisk Manager flashable zip in a folder on your sdcard called ozop. Flash that to install your selection of mods.
Root required
Instructions.
1. Unzip ADB Mods Installer Files.zip on your PC
2. Run TulsadiverModsInstaller.bat (Give ADB Root Permissions)
3. ADB debugging Enabled
4. Flash one of the SystemUI Bases First. They provide the necessary smali files and public ID's for everything to work
5. Go through the other options selecting what all mods you want. It is generally best to start at the top and work your way down.
6. Once finished with selections, run "Complete Installation" at the bottom. This will generate your mymagisk.zip module in a folder called "ozop" on your sdcard.

Hey @Tulsadiver
Great mods!
I'm on the P and I do have some problems.. I'm not much of a tweaks guy, All I want to do, is to get rid of the navbar.
In aroma I do select remove navbar with 3 Titles - the first one - but the clock moves to the right. Anyway to just disable the navbar? And that everything else stays the same?
Thank you!

I will try to root it, and try out the zip after I get home from work later today.. I love the new nav thing lol, but I need to shrink it as it looks way to big for me.. Maybe even disable the whole thing and use some kind of navigation app to get to the menu.
Anyways I'll try it later today and I'll see how it goes!
