How to hide apps? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hi, i am aware that hidden applications menu gone with Emui 8.
When you are using home screen with app drawer option, is there a way to hide apps or even lock app drawer with fingerprint?

Use this app. It allows you to enable the hidden app menu gesture again.

Yes. That screenshot was from my phone. Hidden app gesture works fine on my Mate 10. I installed the app from the app store so try that and not the pc tool.

Ok, thank you very much @tboy2000, i will try with app from play store then.
One more quick question pls; hidden application menu can be used with homescreen drawer style also or only available with standart (all icons on homescreen) style?

It works with my all icons homescreen. I haven't tried it with drawer style. That's for you to try.

I've tried both, and hiding apps only seems to work on the standard home screen. I can't figure out how to hide (if it even is possible) in the drawer style...

Double post

I am totally with you, i am coming from 3 years old phone and i was able to do it easily.
At least, i wish i had an option to lock app drawer with fingerprint etc...
I dont think it differs anything but using Mate 10 or Pro? @jk1992

I have the Mate 10 Pro

Use Nova Launcher (I use Prime version...worth every small penny) and you can hide apps in drawer.

This worked for me after a few tries (did enable option in tweaker tool, but may not be needed) :

[Q] A way to hide apps

Can someone please tell me a way of how to hide apps on a non-rooted Evo 3d and other phones? I have only seen apps that require root for this feature to be effective.
Thanks
You mean just from the app drawer? Or punch in a secret code in the dialer or something?

"Go launcher ex" allows you to hide apps from your app drawer, if that is what you are asking.
ADW does that too, open up the app drawer, hit menu and set up group.
App Locker II - Fake Crash is what I use. Instead of hiding the app it just mimics a stubborn app force closing all the time. Don't really have any apps that need securing more than that. That's the free version, the same developer makes more secure paid versions.
Audio manager. looks like an audio app but you can actually have the fake crash report show or also hid apps/pics/vids completely with root. That along with private sms box should secure your phone quite well from wandering eyes. Not that I know from experience or anything...

I like that a lot better than the one I've been using. For a free app, it has a ton of features. Thanks!
A way to hide apps
I am looking for something to use on a non-rooted phone. Something that can hide the app from the main menu listing.
Thanks
Another vote for GO Launcher Ex. I've tried the major launcher apps, and GO seems to work the best for me on my EVO 3D.

You don't need root to run Go Launcher, it does replace sense though. Just search the market for "Go Launcher" then open app drawer, press menu, then hide app. Long time user of Launcher Plus and am happy I made the switch.
Is there any way I can do this using Sense, without changing to another launcher?
Maybe you can try downloading Z4root and temporarily root your phone to use the other apps. Not sure if on reboot the apps will stay hidden or not though, but it might be worth a try because I think every other solution out there is going to require root.
There's an app by the same developer as App Lock II called Invisible Protector that looks like it may be what you're looking for. Doesn't say it needs root in the description, and has a free 3 day trial.

[Q] Good app to hide and also run (not disable) apps on ICS 4.0.4.

Hi Guys,
I am looking at a good way to hide apps from the list. I want the apps to be able to run (like Email) and do the sync, but not to display the icons in the list. I have seen that ICS comes with a "Disable" function for system apps, but it doesn't work for me because it also prevents the app from running.
I also want a way to launch the apps myself (through a hidden menu or command) at will.
I have tried things like Application Protection, which allows you to password protect the apps you want. However, since the icons are still there, it is still tempting for my kind to click and ask for the password.
Thoughts?

Hi Mr. Indigo,
Where do I get the latest version of HeLauncher? What are other similar ones?
Will that change the UI of my phone? I love stock ICS UI..

Yes, will.
My friend installed on my phone. But you can found another launcher who does the same thing. Then, go to Settings -> Applications -> Quick Start and see the shortcut!

Thank you. I found the Apex Launcher, and that is accomplishing what I need. (A mix of hiding apps + launching apps through gestures).
GoLauncher also supports the hiding feature.
For running the app even though it is hidden you can put them on a (home)screen or folder before you hide them from the app launcher. They will of course still be there after you hid these apps from the launcher.
Have fun! :victory:
hi
is there anyway to do above without launcher?
i mean hide them while they also keep running but not using launcher?

Flashlight app

I can't open the flashlight app. It says that i don't have the rights to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Hi, I think it only works if you are using the stock launcher... I'm using NOVA launcher and it doesn't work... Using the in-built Huawei widgets doesn't work with Nova either....you've got to use ones from the play store etc.
Solution:- use the torch feature from the notification tray. Hope this helps.

From what I've seen, none of the Huawei-supplied widgets work with third-party launchers - I tried putting the Huawei weather widget onto Nova and it crashed it (necessitating an uninstall-reinstall to fix).
There are three ways to get your torch to work;
Access it from the notification pull-down
Draw a letter on the screen with your knuckle (needs to be enabled in "Smart Assistance" - I use "c" for camera, "e" for torch, "m" for PlayerPro and "w" for weather), or
Swipe up from the lock screen.
Of these, I've found the last to be most convenient - the most likely times that you'll want your torch are when your 'phone's locked.

Huawei Launcher

Hi ppl.
It is possible to block/freeze the stock launcher?
without side effects?
i would say yes:

I don't think you can disable the stock launcher or most of the Huawei System Apps. Freezing an app makes me think of Titanium Backup but you would need to be rooted to use that.
Unless you have the Chinese hardware model you can change default launcher like on any other phone. There isn't really a need to disable it or likely much benefit from doing that.

I think making changes to your phone OS using ADB commands is an increadibly bad idea unless you are a software engineer and actually understand exactly what you are doing. The Mate 20 Pro is increadibly fast as it is so what do you think you will gain by removing system apps?
It's your phone--if you feel like bricking it knock yourself out.
ok guys I have successfully removed emui launcher from my mate 20 Pro and using nova launcher now, but I am back on oreo style recents, any solution to that, cheers.

You don't need factory reset to bring back the emui launcher if you removed it with adb shell. you can always reinstall it via huawei's app store.
Removing the emui launcher causes gesture navigation to stop working, as well as the ultra power saving mode.

I think the question is how ? Unless he factory reset;
ok guys here what I did, initially I uninstalled huawei launcher (with adb commands) but it messed up a few things like phone went back to oreo style recents and a few more things went missing from the UI, I do not recommend uninstalling huawei launcher, but anyway I resetted the phone to get Huawei launcher back than did the following:
Go to apps find huawei home click and clear defaults,
Installed nova launcher,
give all permissions to nova, it also needs accessibility and admin rights as well as draw over other apps and allow notification,
from apps on your home screen or app drawer click on nova, for a very short time nova will take over,
very quickly go to apps again (this time nova will be your home launcher, for a short time though), long press nova icon a little menu will pop up "set" without wasting any time click set that will take you to a hidden list of default apps, click on huawei home tht will finally take you to set either huawei home or nova as your default launcher, click nova and voila...bye bye to huawei home, enjoy nova.
But please keep in my mind this procedure is for nova launcher I don't know about other launchers but I hope they act similar, cheers.
the problem still is...
when the huawei launcher is installed and you want to use nova AND you want to use gestures, the recents are completely ugly. everytime you swipe to home, you will see for a short moment the recents. that was a nogo for me because it just looked damn ugly.
so i uninstalled the huawei launcher, enabled the Huawei Gestures (which are not working on the bottom, only on the sides, if you uninstall the launcher), installed nova and installed N-Fluid gestures. Now its working like a charm, i dont care if the recents are looking oreo or pie style

Question Missing or hidden features?

I got my Pixel 6 Pro yesterday and opened it up today and a few things initially that are driving me crazy. I cant change the app drawer to 4x5 or 5x5 or the home screen. I found how but the options are not there. Also, how do I get rid of the massive clock on the lock screen to show a normal clock?
Hi @GrandMstrBud
You can change to 5x5 home app grid by
long pressing the screen,
select 'Wallpaper and Style',
scroll down and select App Grid - to select your choice
Just to confirm I have the Pixel 6 (non pro)

Sorry - that is weird...I just assumed 6 and 6 Pro would have the same basic features...
If you transferred your stuff from another phone it may have bugged out and need to clear cache/data to fix the problem.

The only fix for this for now is to have a persistent notification running. That will reduce the clock size and move the clock to the upper left corner. I use Today Weather for that. The Persistent Notifications app works too.
Hopefully Google will add the option to resize the lockscreen clock in a future update. I hate it too.

Apparently there are some new Tasker projects that tackle this "issue". You can read more about it here: https://www.xda-developers.com/tasker-can-help-you-change-the-size-of-android-12s-aod-clock/

Myself and my uncle had the same issues with our P6P. The option to change the grid didnt show up. We discovered that for some reason Nova launcher was messing with this option. Deleting Nova from the phone and rebooting and this option should appear. Not sure why this is happening with Nova installed.

Strange, I do have the option. It's not just that you didn't scroll down?
When I got the Pixel 6, that option wasn't there either. I checked again the next day and only then did I find it. I think I started the device once in between.
Edit:
As mentioned before: I had Nova installed on an other device, which was transferred to Pixel 6. Maybe I fixed it with deleting Nova.
Maybe I got it after the november update was installed.
I don't have/cannot find the NFC quick settings switch....
