[MTCD] [Hardware Mod] Add 'GPS' SDCARD to SDCARD-less models - MTCD Hardware Development

-Update 22/Mar/2018 - consider OTG instead. See my thread for making an OTG 'jig' from a spare USB cable and two resistors.
With OTG, a bricked SOM can be recovered, formatted, upgraded, fully backed up and restored.
Purpose
To enable users to upgrade/update their head units by adding a suitable micro-SD card slot to models without a factory "GPS" card slot.
Background
Some MTCD units do not have an micro-SDCard slot, which may prohibt upgrading the device, Some users have found that USB works, wheras others report upgrading from USB a no-go.
While a standard micro-SDCard socket might be suitable for some, others may find the fine wiring and circuitboard placement difficult, thus a breakout module is suggested.
Note/disclaimer
While the following mod has not been tested, with all of the interfacing carried out by the SOM this should allow for a straight wire-to-card-socket modification to enable the GPS micro-SD.
Items needed:
(1x) SDIO compatible breakout Micro SD(TF) Storage Board
Wiring
Direct to SOM may be easier for some users, or if a suitable flat-flexible-cable and connectors can be obtained, connecting to the "GPS" FFC socket might be possible.
To wire directly to SOM
56 - GPS_DET
57 - GPS_CMD
58 - GPS_CLK
59 - GPS_DAT1
60 - GPS_DAT0
61 - GPS_DAT2
62 - GPS_DAT3
"GPS" SDCARD Connector (10pin) pins:
1 = Not Used
2 = GPS_DAT1
3 = GPS_DAT0
4 = GND
5 = GPS_CLK
6 = 3.3V [mmc_3v3]
7 = GPS_CMD
8 = GPS_DET
9 = GPS_DAT3
10 = GPS_DAT2
11 = GND
12 = GND
Refer to the MTCD schematic thread for schematic diagrams.

Unfortunately not, must be SDIO.

How about this one

I cant see how that supports SDIO as is missing D3 and D2 pins.

Hello, could you tell me where I can buy such a component in Germany?
Thank you

Marchnz, i bought this micro sd card board, but i need your assistance to make sure i got the wiring connections right in my mind, just look at the picture and tell me if something is not right, thanks. :good:

Looks ok to me. Card detect (cd) might be logic high or low, will need to see once you've connected.

With no detect input, you'll have to use a switch to 'tell' the headunit the SDCard is inserted.

What do you mean with "switch" and "tell"?
I just tried it and it does not work. The card is not recognized at boot time or in the system.
Here are pictures to see how I soldered it to the SOM.

Increase power output from USB OTG

Hey there.
I just got the latest version of Stweaks and saw that there was a way to change the amount of power used for USB charging.
Would this feature or another mod enable me to draw more power from the USB port so I have a hope in hell of powering a small USB hub?
Thanks

Has anyone snapped their SIM slot pins using a nano adaptor?

Has anyone snapped their SIM slot pins using a nano adaptor?
I have!
If you look at your SIM slot, there are 6 pins, 3 large and 3 small. I've somehow managed to snap the 2 of the small pins. The phone is still working and I am wondering if this will cause any issues?
I'll post pics later, is anyone able to post a pic of their SIM slot just to make sure that what I am saying is actually correct?
you can buy a replacement slot on ebay, it's about five bucks, if it ever stops working. replacing it is also very straightforward
BUT why are you posting in this section? Seems like you have a question

[URGENT] Stuck on setup wizard!!

Hi, I need urgent help!! I have a chinese phone, Alps gt i9300, so I factory resetted it (through the settings menu), and now, the setup wizard pops when I turn on the phone. After clicking next, an error appears: "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped". So, I can't access any other menu...
I've tried going into the recovery, but as I said I have a chinese phone, so the recovery menu only have the following options:
- Test (for touch screen, wifi, and a lot of things)
- Clear eMMC (I have read that if I click this I will brick my phone)
- Version
- Reboot
So I can not wipe my phone, nor flash anything!!!! Please help, what can i do??
pleeease, can anyone help me?
adb debuggung?
I can not use adb, because I can't enable usb debugging since I can't access the settings...
Who said clearing eMMC would brick your phone? BTW, I think you may be able to use ADB to force your phone to receive flash files. Obviously someone more knowledgeable will have to tell you or you can search the forums.

Yes, I've already saw that threads, and I was thinking about using SP Flash Tool to flash only DATA and SYSTEM partitions from a ROM I've found. Still, I'm not 100% sure that's the ROM for my device, but I think that's my only hope... this is the ROM I've found that matches with my phone specs:
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/gt-i9300-4/
Wow.. It's either you repaired it or you bricked it.. Good luck.
I did manage to fix it by flshing data, system and cache partitions only. Although, it seems that the ROM was not exactly the original ROM, and even if it works ok, there are things that go wrong. For example, camera is upside down (this is annoying), screen rotation works partially... I think this is the best I can do, but still it would be cool if I found the original ROM...

Was going say what i sent would work and yours would as well. I'd take what you got and try.some others. Wonder if you can use a true SGS3 ROM to flash that Alps. Being the exact same hardware i don't see why not.
---------- Post added at 05:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:17 PM ----------
The camera being upside down has me believing that's because it is Chinese lol.
On a serious note I don't trust much any site for ROMs other than XDA.
Dude looks like he did some nice work but kind of questionable workflow. I'm no expert
by any means though I'd hope there's a ROM here
for that phone

Nope, I said it was stuck on setup wizard, which means I couldn't do ANYTHING, not even lower the notification bar, so I couldn't enable mass storage, or usb debugging, or whatever...
As for the ROM, I've searched all over the internet, and that was the one that most approached my phone. Of course you can not flash a true SGS3 ROM, even if it's a clone, hardware is not the same at all. This is the hardware of my phone, in case you are curious:
CPU: Mediatek MTK6577 Dual-core 1 GHZ
Screen: 4.7 inch, 854x480
ROM memory: 4 GB
RAM memory: 512 MB
Dual SIM
Back camera: 8 Mpx, Front camera: 0.3 Mpx

Yes I know that but it should have defaulted (in Windows) to at least opening the phone as a USB drive or something such as that. At least you got something working although you might as well try the XDA links with those ROMs for it. I didn't realize that ALPS nerfed the phone when "cloning" the SGS3
Glad you got it somewhat working bud.
If some people end up in this thread looking for something similar, I'm posting a link with downloadable ROMs for chinese devices like mine, recieved by the chinese store where I bought it. This is the link:
http://down.aukeys.com/download/rom/PHONE/
For my specific device, it was the first file (9300Ӳ.rar), but for other could be any other. I hope this is useful for anyone. Cheers!

Dual Sim but no SD CarD?

I ordered mine last week but noticed before i did purchase it that that it said dual sim (micro sd) So I am assuming that means that you can have one or the other?
Does anyone have one & do you think its possible to hack it so you can have two sims & one Micro SD?
Cheers

Of course, I am not responsible for damages that this manipulation could result on your phone.
You remain alone responsible for your actions. !!!
This is only for information. And I will not help you in this manipulation, excepting, perhaps, give you some tips...
!!!! For me, that, worked, but this is not guaranteed! Many have tried without success. !!!
Read carefully the tutorial ( http://cn.ui.vmall.com/thread-2369212-1-1.html Google translate, like me, help you to understand ), many people, have lost sim card or Micro SD card.
I can say only one thing:
If you take the time to do it quietly. There is no reason why it does not work ...
Enjoy, or not...
So you completely followed this guide to achieve it? All steps without changes?

Well, you can go ahead. However, the "chip" will need to be placed inside the phone's body or you could buy a cover(a thin one) and use that as a placeholder for it.
It will charge as normal then.
