Someone helped me remotely unlock the Note 8 already but I have questions..... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

My note 8 is already unlocked. I bought this device for my father in Hong Kong and he will be leaving in 3 days. I just worry if the network will be locked by itself again once he goes back to Hong Kong, will this happen? What should I do to prevent this? Currently I am not paying it off yet. Should I flash a rom to avoid this situation? But I want to keep the warranty.........

3 UK - is it locked and branded?

Hi,
I've noticed similar thread about O2 but couldn't find anything regarding 3 UK. Is there anyone around here who got their S2 from 3 UK? If so, was it locked to 3 or network branded (the phone itself and software)?
Thanks!
Doesnt matter if it is locked, there is an app to unlock it, Chainfire made it if I remember correctly. should be in theme and apps section.
Thanks a lot stoney. Good news in case I decide to keep it.
The trouble is I want to sell the phone and wouldn't like to open the box to check if it's unlocked and that's why I was wondering if it was normally locked if it comes from 3. Not sure if the potential buyer would be happy to unlock the phone themselves using the software from the forums.
In case anyone else is interested in - my S2 was locked to 3 but it was possible to unlock it
My 3 sgs2 was not locked but is branded, I have not checked my replacement but I guess it will be the unlocked the same

Problems on X10 Mini

Hi everyone, I am a Hong Kong netizen, and my name is Ming
Yesterday, I received a X10 Mini from an aunt that lived in UK 2 years ago.
She said that she had not use this phone since her immigration to Hong Kong, she gave that to me.
I am going to give this phone to my dad to replace his Sony Ericsson K770i. But I found that this phone cannot use Hong Kong's SIM card.
Even I think there is a SIM Lock.
What I'm going to ask is: any solution to make the lock disappear?
Can it be flashed to a Jellybean rom in order to make it easier to use and lower its power consumption?
Thank YOU

For a sim-unlock you'd have to ask the provider for an emma/imei code to unlock it (it might be free after the initial contract-period), all other methods of unlocking will cost you some money, and with those it is not necessarily guaranteed that you would be able to unlock the bootloader without losing your network. (which you would need to do. If you want a JB-type ROM you need a custom kernel)
And as for JB, it is possible to install, but it won't lower your power-consumption. For this phone a Gingerbread based rom still is the best option, and if you want JB-style ease of use, look into GingerDX or something like that.

[Q] Buying a Samsung Note 2 from a carrier in the USA and unlocking it to Europe

Hello everyone
First i would like to thank you in advance for all the help you can provide me.
So, for a long time now i'm aiming to buy a Samsung Note 2 phone but prices here in Europe make it a bit "unpractical" to do so, a few days a go i read that it is possible to buy a US carrier locked SN2 and unlock it to European carriers, is this correct?
I mean, can a go on amazon.com and buy a AT&T SN2, ship it to Europe, unlock the phone and get it to be fully operational?, or at least if it is going to be able to support 3G?
I've read something about the frequencies it operates on and so far it seems right to that specific smartphone.
Btw my carrier in Europe is Vodafone Portugal
Many thanks for all the help you can provide
Cheers
EDIT: sorry i've kept gathering info and i missed something a "bit" relevant , the contract that i have to keep in order to get the phone at that price. Its not easy...not easy.
Any ideas?

Flash then Unlock or Unlock then Flash

Which would be the best to do first guy, flash a SIM locked Orange 920 with debranded software then get the SIM unlocked removed or wait for the unlock code to come through, unlock the phone then flash new firmware?
The reason I ask is I know it will take a few days for the code to come through and I've heard stories of NCS being shut down. I've flashed my 800 and 820 and I know that flashing does NOT remove the SIM lock.
Any advice would be really helpful! Thanks!
If its any help i debranded my EE 920 first then got the unlock code... No problems as of yet lol.
Thanks for the info, I picked up the phone from the post office and am in work now, bought a SIM unlock code from FunFoneShop (will take a few days to arrive) so when I get home I'll flash the phone.
Strangley I bought it from cex who said it was locked to orange however in the 'about' screen it says EE, I just went ahead and said it was locked to Orange and I don't believe it matters between the two (or T-Mobile).
I'll keep you guys posted!
Fun Fone Shop told me it didn't matter if I picked Orange, T-Mobile or EE so that's good, orderd the unlock code last tuesday (29th) and still nothing through but they did say it could take 10 days.
I did flash the phone to a GB country variant, no issues and it no longer has information regarding 'EE' in the about screen.
Once the code comes in I'll update the thread on if it works or not.
UPDATE: Got my code from Fun Fone Shop (took 8 days), they guys were easy to get updates from and the service worked, would recommend. I now have an unbranded, unlocked Lumia 920!

Nov 4 OTA update LOCKS an UNLOCKED S10 Model SM-G973U

I have a Galaxy S10 Model SM-G973U. (Unlocked T-Mobile phone) and purchased from Swappa several months ago. I used it with Cricket service with no issues until a Nov 4 firmware OTA update rendered the phone LOCKED to T-Mobile, not recognizing the SIM. Checking the settings it said it is "ineligible for unlocking").
* I have never had a T-Mobile account, and bought the T-unlocked versions of the Note 4, and Note 8 over the years without issues with an update locking the phone.
* T-Mobile's own bulletin board acknowledges that firmware updates have caused unlocked phones to lock to the carrier. See here: tinyurl.com/yft7haqd and tinyurl.com/yhwzqefr.
* Went to T-Mobile store (2x) as well as raised this with Twitter support @TmobileHelp). Lots of unhelpful advice (wipe the phone, buy a new phone from them, etc.). I was told a week ago that they would email me with instructions on how to unlock it. That email never came.
* I have a paid-for phone, clean IMEI, but they will NOT unlock the phone unless I can produce the original T-Mobile account number from the former owner.
* The Swappa seller said he bought the phone from a wholesaler, so he doesn't know the account number, but is willing to research to try to get it to me. He has heard also of this last update doing this to multiple Samsung models.
* What @TmobileHelp said to me today is in essence, "too bad", since I am not a T-Mobile customer:
"To qualify for an unlock from us is to have prepaid service with us for more than 40 days. From there so long as you refilled more than $100 on that prepaid account and the device is in good standing we will be able to unlock the device."
Qs: Have you heard of issues with this update? Or any firmware update locking an unlocked phone? Any resolution other than buying 40 days of T-Mobile service to get it unlocked? Purchase an unlock code?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Have you tried sites like unlockboot.com , cellunlocker.net or sim-unlock.net ?

Yes, I am trying cellunlocker.net and will see how it goes. Ordered last night. May take 1-7 days.
Nothing to see here...

I think what happened is your phone might have got temporary unlock from T-Mobile from the privous owner who wasn't qualified for permanent unlock....

Hows the sites? Many people says that sites are scam
I got scammed by one of them ( iphoneimei.net ). Supposedly they sell the "waiting place in line", until they can unlock it for free. So basically the scam is that they don't sell unlocks.
Then, when the carrier unlock the phone for real (in my case I unlocked my iPhone6 after one year of being in service, officially), they send you the notification that the phone is unlocked. They don't do anything, just somehow read the database of carrier locked phones.
