rattle in fingerprint scanner - Elephone S8 Questions & Answers

A few days ago I received my Elephone S8. It looks like the fingerprint scanner is a bit loose, whenever I tap it, it makes noise.
Has anybody the same experience?
Another irritating thing is that the phone performs a soft reboot during calls. I'm trying another dialer app now and it looks like that is working better. Using the Google dialer doesn't work.

I got that rattle on the fingerprint sensor but not when I got it. I got it after about 2 months of use and I fell it once. However, it is very minimal and I can't hear it. I just feel it whenever I use it. It still works 100%.

Fortunately the scanner works like it should, so I'm not sure about returning the phone.
I do still have an issue where the phone freezes after an incoming call. After about 30 seconds or so, everything is back to normal. I'll open a new thread about this.

Return the phone you already have two issues. There are more issues with this phone than you can imagine.

I'm thinking about that indeed. Question is which problems a new one might have, since there are so few members here with other problems than mine.

[Q] fingerprinter reader gone AWOL?

I configured the reader with two fingers, and it worked fine. Spent a couple of hours messing around with the new phone, downloaded some market apps, ditched some of them, poked around some more...
Fingerprint reader went AWOL. Didn't say the prints were bad, just didn't respond at all.
Wouldn't reconfigure either. Two power reboots later...it allowed me to reconfigure it and it is working again. For now.
Anyone else seen problems with the reader? I'm guessing one of the apps stomped on it, but I'd have expected ANY security feature to be more robust than that.
A guy in the AT&T store mentioned that Motorola had said something about this. I haven't seen it myself. The solution was basically what you did, keep rebooting until it works again.
Same problem. Very annoying.
meh haven't had a single problem with it. It's incredibly accurate...not once have I had a problem with scanning my finger outside of flying my finger across it much too quickly or *trying* to get it to not work (seeing how accurate it was).
I had the same problem twice.......i unistalled my task manager both times and the issue has not returned. I beleive my 3rd party taskkiller was the blame. I had it set to kill all when screen goes out.
I had no issues with finger print scanner for the first two days. Installed startup auditor today to manage apps to increase battery life, but it messed up the finger print scanner, it wouldn't respond to my fingers. It is working fine after uninstalling that app.
Mine has now started acting up this morning. Don't think it was related to any app install as I didn't install anything over the past 36 hrs and it just started. It wasn't reading any fingerprint swipes, and then I got something on the screen later that said "Initializing Fingerprint Reader", which didn't go away or fix itself. I've rebooted and it seems to work again, but that's really annoying. I'm not looking to reboot my phone every few days to work around something like this.
That fingerprint thing is pretty slow and annoying. Moto really needs to patch this phone on the stat.
Well, mine has behaved throughout Day Two.
And it doesn't matter if you pick the phone up upside down, i.e. swipe your finger from the top OR bottom first. As long as the finger is dragged from the joint to the fingertip (i.e. drag your finger "down" the scanner) it doesn't matter if the phone is rightside up.
The scanner is smart enough to read the finger even upside down BUT you can't "push" your finger over it, tip first. That smart it isn't.<G>
Had this happen last night, one reboot fixed it. Very annoying!
Had the phone for about 5 days now and it's done this to me on 2 separate occasions. First time it happened was after I'd owned/used the phone for a day. Rebooting the phone a few times didn't fix it. Had to go in and disable/re-enable the fingerprint sensor security lock. Happened again for a second time today (5th day I've owned it). Rebooting my phone fixed it. This is really starting to worry me. If it's a software issue, I'll probably keep the phone in the hopes that a software update will fix it (if not an official update from Motorola, hopefully some of the skilled developers from XDA will fix it, or just release a custom rom with fewer bugs). But if it's a hardware issue, I'd like to know now while I'm still able to return the device. I'm assuming it's a software issue since rebooting or disabling/enabling the fingerprint scanner seems to fix it, but it's still incredibly annoying to not be able to reliably use one of the unique security features of your device.
I'm about to contact Motorola to complain about this defect and I'd recommend everyone else who's experiencing it do the same. They're much more likely to address the problem if they see it's upsetting a large portion of their customer base. Also, if this problem is enough of a nuisance that you're considering returning the phone because of it, definitely make sure to tell them.

Think they can patch the power button? and by patch I mean raise it by a 1/2mm?

No sound in calls unless on speakerphone.

I've recently noticed that I don't get sound when making a phone call unless I change to speakerphone. I don't make many calls so I don't know exactly how long it's been happening, but I first noticed it a couple weeks ago. I know that the other person can hear me fine when I'm on either setting. I've also switched ROMs, from Alien to the new CM7 beta, with no change.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is it most likely a hardware problem? I've never dropped my phone or anything, and it's only 3 months old. Does anyone know of an app that can test the normal phone speaker, because all other sounds have been working fine.
Thanks for any suggestions!

My guess is it's a hardware problem. I would have it checked out by your mobile phone company.
You can also look up "hardware test" in market and you will find apps there you can use to test your hardware. Sorry not to recommend one. There are many there if you look them up.

Thanks for the response. I looked for an app already and didn't find anything useful. There were tests for just about everything else; touch screen, sensors, GPS, etc., and only two that I found that had an audio test at all. However, neither of them allowed me to specifically test the "phone" speaker.
I just think it's weird that all other sounds work fine. I'd really rather test it before I send it in to Motorola.
Thanks again!
This was a common issue on the Motorola Defy's. I had to send mine to Moto for repair. If you're within a year, AT&T will replace it.
I am having this exact same problem with homebase. but mine is intermittent it will work straight after a reboot
More sound issues
In my case I just updated from Froyo to Gingerbread, everything was working perfectly, when suddenly i stopped listening to the earpiece, the loudspeaker still works during calls,
On the other hand, if I try listening to music or any other sound, the loudspeakers dont work... any ideas of what could have caused the problem? It feels like some sort of driver issue, because while trying our the earpiece and loudspeaker during a call I was able to listen to one second of conversation through the earpiece...
i do have exactly the same issue...
putting pressure just beneath the fingerprint scanner, makes the earpiece work for an instant ...
its definitely a hardware issue...
m really fed up with dead spots on touchscreen n this earpiece issue....

slow or no autofocus

The camera is great, but sometimes it can use from 2-5 seconds to focus if is focuses at all.
I'm suspecting it to be a hardware issue because when i shake the phone the camera focuses.
Are anyone else experiencing similar problems?
Yes, on the Galaxy S6 (non-Edge).
I have exactly the same problem on samsung galaxy s6 edge
Went to the store to get a replacement, but apparently Samsung only replaces the phone the first week and I bought it two weeks ago. They therefore had to send it to get repaired
I also have this intermittantly, sometimes also the flash is off and when I try to turn on again it says the phone needs to cool down before flash is used, The phone was barely luke warm, anybody else had this happen?

Bummer... have the exact same thing! First week no problems, but since a day or two this started to happen. And I just found out the same as you: when I shake, it dóes focus. On a sidenote: when it happens, mine seems to be stuck on macrofocus.
If this lasts for one more week I'll go back to the Samsung Store where I bought it
Same here. Samsung said go to walk in service. No replacement.
After two repairs, they finally change the camera, and things are good now.

I use these at work with my phone in my pocket. I have tried front pockets and back. I don't know if the sensor is too dark or its too tight in there (pants/shorts are not tight) or what. If the phone is out of my pocket it works fine 98% of the time. Just today i had it being choppy even when the phone was in my hand. I have also tried using it without the small, slim silicone phone case but with the same results.
I haven't seen much online with the same issues and i don't want to return this phone to get yet another ****ty phone or refurbished one.
Anyone have any ideas?
nobody has had this issue?
I have this issue its a royal pain. I assumed its because the battery is dying but that is not the case. I got so annoyed I had to use ancient methods and plug in a wire between both devices . felt so weird but did the job .
Same problem here
I was having the same problem with my LG Tones Ultras, I was still within my 14 day return with tmobile so i they swapped it and problem is gone. I suggest you get a hold of warranty since still within a year and see if they will sent you a device. Hope this helps. good luck.
thought about it but i dont really want a refurbed one
To add to my earlier post about this issue i simply rebooted my phone just to try and that seems to have resolved the problem. I thought of it since i never have any reason to turn off my device .

Typically when I have BT issues like cut outs and random pop/clicks while listening to audio a reboot is what is needed. Not sure why that solves the problem but when it gets bad that is my only solution and it usually works 100% of the time.
Yes, I've experienced this with my LG HBS-760 headset (which, by the way, worked perfectly with the G4). A reboot typically solves the problem, but only temporarily. I'm very unhappy with this phone, for that reason and also the horrible battery life and the gimmicky/mostly useless second screen. I wish I had kept my G4.

Fingerprint, GPS, volume... things that don't work

I just fixed all 3 issues with the pin bending trick!
I thought this phone was dying.. first I noticed the GPS was ****ty... but I have read it's a known issue with the G5... so I lived with it.
Then my volume buttons went out a few months ago...
And a few weeks ago my fingerprint sensor stopped working. Shows nothing in settings.
The fingerprint was the one I missed the most, so I bought a new sensor off ebay and installed it. No luck... it still wouldn't show the options in the settings.
Frustrated, I opened the phone back up and started bending all the contact pins up. Carefully, one by one, i bent them all straight up. Reassembled, and it was a dramatic difference. Like, no joke, everything works perfect now. I am inside and I get 19 of 21 satellites. My volume buttons work rock solid. And my fingerprint sensor works again!
I was pretty burned by the g4 hard bootloops... there isn't anything you can do for that... and obviously LG still has QC issues due to these damn pins, but at least this is fixable. Overall I love this phone, it's been through the paces at work, in a dirty hot environment and it gets dropped a lot. I keep it in my toolbelt too, so it often gets crushed when I lean up against something with it on my hip. I have cracked 5 screen protectors now, but never the screen itself and the phone always chugs along.
So, I am suffering through the fingerprint sensor dilemma right now. The phone seems to see the sensor, but I get no response from it, and if I delete one of my saved finger profiles, I cannot create a new one. I am an IT guy and ETech by trade, so I have no qualms opening up equipment that isn't mine, but a little leery about dinking on my own stuff. Which "pins" are you referring to above, please?
Thanks!
