LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 7 (nougat), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.

Build information
Build date: 2018-10-03
Build on: Lubuntu 16.04 LTS VM
Patch version of this build: 2018-09-05
For ZC554KL 3GB Ram, 32GB EMMC, Snapdragon 430 (MSM8937) (won't work properly on the model with 4GB RAM and 32GB EMMC)
I tested this image on my phone (X00ID) today. Here are the results:
Working (tested so far)
- Boot
- Audio
- Video
- All cameras and flashlights
- Wifi connection
- Mobile connection
- LED
- MTP
- OTG
Not working
- If you (or a root app) remount the system partition as rw and tries to modify a system file --> android freezes (hold volume down and power until the smartphone vibrates to reboot in that case)
- Gestures (the build in Focaltech 5436 touch-controller supports gestures)
Modifications
- Root Add on is already integrated (to build with integrated SU Addon: "export WITH_SU=true" before building)
Warning
Before flashing this, make a backup! I don't tested what happens, if you update aaaaaaziskurnia's version with this image (I made a clean flash).
Note:
In case of freeze: Hold Volume down + Power until the Zenfone 4 Max reboots.

Oh, I didn't know, that there is a version of the Zenfone 4 Max ZC554KL with 2/16 out there (seams to be a special version). This image is for the Snapdragon 430. The device you described have a Snapdragon 425.
So better don't install this image (I don't know if it working or not on your phone, I haven't that model so I can't test it).
Edit: Yup, your phone is a special model which I didn't know.

I have the same problem with stock rom, my specific issue, I hate ads and I am trying to use "adaway", adaway has to modify the hosts file then it crashes and I need to reboot...
I tried to edit the permissions of the hosts file but it is impossible, the phone just crashes and doesn't allow me to modify files with RW in order to change anything (looks like we are not root at all).

For that case there is a workaround. Boot to TWRP and push the host file via adb to the system partition in the right path and set the permissions with chmod. If you mounting the the system partition as rw in the recovery the system don't crash.

This rom is not pure OmniRom, but close to, for convenience purpose. Roms are build from this script and can contain some lightweight modifications (like mkshrc, or TWRP app disabling, @nailyk certificate authority included, etc...) but will never have heavy changes like replacing an app by another, etc...

- Quick charge
- Dual sim swap problem. After a change all the slot1 is lost!

How to post
Reports without logs or step to reproduce are useless (read contribute).
You are welcome to post your review: what is working, not working, etc... Check into know issues before.
You are welcome to report any typo, error, etc...
Try to keep thread clean as a dev reference. Thanks in advance.
How to report problems
To report problem, please provide logs.
It is always better to include reference to the Installed version. This guide is really detailed and explained everything about bug reports.
If you have any doubts, take the most logs. There is never enough logs
How to get logs
If your device is not booting at all, we need information about how you flash and all the handling you do, the display status, light status, and if available a dump of /proc/last_kmesg*
If you have a non working peripheral (non-working radio/wifi/etc...) please provide a full logcat and full dmesg, example:
Code:
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device
adb shell dmesg > dmesg.log
adb logcat -d > logcat.log
If you have a non working app please provide a partial logcat:
Code:
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device
adb logcat -c
<launch your app>
adb logcat -d > logcat.log
On this rom, there is a script who detect device at install time and provide the right functions for single or dual sim. If you have modem problems (like data not working or no signal) please also provide the /tmp/recovery.log.:
If you have ADB access to your device in twrp just use
Code:
adb pull /tmp/recovery.log .
after flashing omnirom.
If you do not have ADB access use the 'copy to SD' button in the advanced tab, then transfer it the way you like.
then upload your files to a service like pastebin.com / paste.omnirom.org
How to contribute
Code is like hieroglyphs for me:
No worries you can contribute anyway! Install the rom, do tests, read failure logs, look at internet for potential fix/similar users experience, is the biggest part of debugging. Then collect all of this and write your results here.
Code is like hieroglyphs for me and logs are worst:
No problem, collects logs the right way if you can, explain how you encounter the problem: detailed step to reproduce could be enough: explain exactly how you encounter the error/problem, it should produce each time someone repeat your steps. Then we will be able to fix it.

Hello guys,
As mentioned error 7 for 6603, but can be fixed via provided workaround for now☺
My sim card was not detected at all. System was asking for sim card insertion. ? (I wiped everything before installation, flashed zip and gapps nano, tried also the same with sideload)
I had to directly switch back, because I need working phone today. But I will try to provide logs as soon as possible.
Thank you a lot!

And thanks for this great rom
release 3
That's a failing launch
So new zip with already removed assert, and some fix for single sim who do not have data. Please wipe /system before flashing.
Looks like another expected issue pop out: BT is broken. We are currently working on it. (bt was working 2 days ago )
Sorry for the mess
Looks very good. Even with October security patch level.
I know it may be a little early, but can you say anything about battery life (especially standby) compared to 7.1.2 or stock?

I tried to compile the LOS gsi, but my pc didn't like the phh script and i have very limited time to debug why it fails.
No time to test your build right now (though i i'm planning to use as daily driver from the new year), but i got a few questions regarding functionality:
- Do the dual sim, sd card, mtp, camera, lockscreen features work?
- Is it possible to install a new-ish gcam under LOS?
- Also, would it be possible to compile LOS 8.1 and just add the fm radio firmware from samsung stock to fix fm issue?

Hello, Thanks for your reply. Lockscreen, dual sim, mpt, camera works. Well this is 64bit rom it supports GCAM but the camera HALs needs remake for GCAM (you can take black pictures on GCAM)
Almost all samsung apps require Samsung Frameworks but I am not gonna do it.

Another question:
I'm still on OREO. I guess the BL binary 4 requirement mentioned in the first post is the PIE BL binary?
So i'd have to first flash the latest PIE stock?
From what i see over at ashyx's TWRP thead, it is possible to install TWRP on latest PIE, but not to root afterwards.
So, since from your answer to wafelciooo above, it seems clear that magisk can be installed, what did i get wrong?

I will probably boot on any bootloader. But things line telephony, wi-fi might not work because of uncompatible firmware.
It's possible to make it work properly on any firmware although not implemented yet.
Bootloader Binary 4?

Look for "Baseband version" in software info in settings. The number in the middle is bootloader binary. For example:
A605FNXXS4BSH1 -> 4
A605FNXXU3ARK2 -> 3
I'll look for it... once my wife vacates my cellphone.

Look for "Baseband version" in software info in settings. The number in the middle is bootloader binary. For example:

mine is A605FNXXU4BSJ1, so I guess I am good to go.
I'm looking to try this but it bootloops for eons an then goes back to the recovery. anyone with the same issue?
edit: after various wipes and re-installing, I finally made it... it looks pretty smooth so far
how to return to oreo
Yeah I am think about it too, because there's few to no-help-at-all from the OP.
To go back to Oreo, provided you didn't make a backup of you're ROM you'll have to download a firmware from https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and use Odin to flash it into your device.

Hi,
here you can find my version for the n51xx on LineageOS 18.1.
Don't forget, this is a early beta build, so you will face bugs and don't expect a fully functioning ROM,
this ROM is not finished and may not be able to be used as a daily driver,
for this I would recommend my LOS 16.0 version or /e/.
At first I want to thank @forkbomb444, @rINanDO, @ChronoMonochrome and all the others who are working on the exynos 4 devices, also big thanks to @prkfsz for donating me a n5120 and also the shipping cost.
Also big thx to @cngbrick for donating a n5100.
For sure there are many other people who did there work, it's open source and this is the reason why android
is great in general.
It already took me a few hundred hours and it will become more and more to support you with great updates.
Here you can see how far everything is working:

If you are going to use Gapps,
here you can download them:

For the others, you can use microG in future.
If you want to pass the safety net check, root your device with magisk, Selinux is disabled.
Do you like my work?
Than you can simply hit the thanks button and consider to spend me a coffee or a beer,
I'm doing this in my free time and it also costs a lot of money to buy hardware.

Good evening, I'm waiting for the version for the n5100.
Thank you for doing the firmware.
I tried to run the firmware on the n5100 device from n5110, the following errors are boot animation, the problem with Wifi sees but does not connect, the problem with Selinux is disabled.
I'm waiting for the firmware for the n5100 to be released))

Thank you for this rom ,version alpha.
I installed the rom and gapps test version according to your instructions on my Samsung Note 8 Wifi GT-N5110
Not working: Wifi. Login credentials are accepted and saved for my wifi network; but from there it keeps searching and searching for IP number and so on for some time and than ends up with the error 'Authentication failed'.
After completing the install I tried tot connect Wifi again, but same result as mentioned above.

Hmm ok, try the version from today, wifi is working in my case very well, if it's than still not working,
check if the .mac.info file exists in /efs/wifi.
@html6405
Booth animation at the beginning is a little curve.
Screen brightness problems at 37%, very dim.
Microfreezes are visible in energy saving mode.
When recording the screen, everything lags terribly, I use the system screen recording utility.
Didn't find the key backlight setting item.
SELinux problem is disabled and writes a warning Trust.
And he also writes This assembly is signed with public keys.
Mac-address Wi-Fi devices 00:00:00:00:00.
Error when enabling developer mode, Wifi does not want to connect to the network.

Thanks for your efforts!

Tnank you for your reply.
OK, I will wait for that version, which is not on line by now; only 20210428 for N5100. Meanwhile I reinstalled 18.1-20210426 N5110 en checked /efs/wifi, but folder efs is empty.

Selinux will be the last thing, like on LOS 16.1. It doesn't make much sense as long it is in early alpha stage.
And yes, I'm signing my builds with public keys because it's unofficial.

This must not be true, it is also zero when the Mac is ok, this is a hal issue and at the moment just an optical thing.
At the moment I'm also facing some shutdown issues on my N5100, so I guess it will be the same in your case,
but yeah, it's just a test version...

I was glad to help with testing, we need to work with optimization, there are micro-freezes.
Notice the pixels visible in the top control bar.
In general, the firmware is not bad.

It will take time, that this firmware will be good enough to be used as a daily driver.
There are many icons missing in hdpi resolution, this will also take time until they are available,
this is why you see the pixels.
Update 28.04.2021:
Introduced triple buffering for a smoother experience
Implemented button to switch off stylus icon hovering
Many Kernel back ports made
Brought back BOARD_CANT_REALLOCATE_OMX_BUFFERS, this will fix for example YouTube kids crash
Security patch level 05.04.2021
Enabled fast charging
Much more small fixes / optimizations
I'm facing a new shutdown bug with this version, I will work on this the next day's / week's, please report me if it is the same behaviour in your case.

Ok this is good, this file contains your mac address, this file should be copied at the init process,
you could try to restart from zero, maybe then it's working.

Confirmation:
Wifi works after installing 2021-04-28. Great!
Some bugs already mentioned and commented by you:
boot animation
selinux/trust warnings (of course, public keys)
Display time-out: shutdown bug. I worked around this by setting time-out at 30 minutes.
Besides all this: Donated for your wonderful projects in general. Vielen Dank dafür!

The usual way using Magisk and the "MagiskHide Props Config" module works also with this ROM. I used the fingerprint of a Google Pixel 5 with Android 11 and everything works fine.

The module is documented in its XDA thread, but you can download and install "MagiskHide Props Config" (thats the exact name of the module) directly with the Magisk manager.
After you have installed the module, you need either a terminal emulator app (like ConnectBot or Termux) or you simply connect to your device from your PC via "adb shell".
When you are in the shell, you enter "su" to get root privileges (a popup should appear on your device screen). Then you enter "props" to start the fingerprint ceremony.
I think it is a bit off topic as the problem with failing SafetyNet tests is not bound to this custom ROM, but I'm sure that you will find answers to your problems if you get stuck in any of the steps I described. There are several threads here at XDA assigning that topic and at least the problem is not device-specific, so solutions for other devices might help here as well.
But I really hope my description will help you solve the problem on your device, too!

With the PixelOS, SafetyNet failed even basic integrity and fixing the fingerprint was not enough on my device. The problem must be something bigger. Maybe Android 12 isn't even ready for SafetyNet on custom ROMs. But I'm quite happy now with LineageOS 18.1 and I hope that the future will bring progress - and updates for both ROMs.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

ROM OS Version: Android 12
ROM Kernel: Linux 5.4
Based On: AOSP
Official TWRP thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-11-official-teamwin-recovery-project.4374117
TWRP Notes:
Currently the official TWRP has issues installing on custom ROMs. It can be permanently installed on with MIUI but any AOSP based ROM causes it to hang. Until this gets fixed the only way into TWRP is to use the fastboot boot method. Also the official TWRP currently has some bugs (sideload not working, boot slot selection not working, vibration not working) which I have fixed. I've submitted these fixes to the official channels so the next official build should have these problems fixed. My unofficial TWRP build is available here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xiaomi-odin/files/twrp-3.6.1-odin.img/download
Extra Installation Notes:
TWRP cannot currently decrypt A12 partitions meaning you can't access your files in recovery mode. This is a TWRP problem, not a ROM bug. If you need to install something, either sideload it or use USB OTG.
Lineage 19 requires MIUI 13/Android 12 firmware. You can get that here: https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/firmware/odin/stable/V13.0.4.0.SKMCNXM/
Lineage 18 requires MIUI 12/Android 11 firmware, available here: https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/firmware/odin/stable/V12.5.12.0.RKMCNXM/
This is freaking awesome !
I know this may be a very dumb question, what's Screen off FOD ?

Oh OK, now I get it.
@Inkypen I have managed to install this with OpenGapps pico and everything seems to look good - except for SIM cards None of the SIM slots are recognized... so uninstalling it now, since I need my phone BUT other than that I am super pumped - finally something other than MIUI and my beloved Lineage! Throwing you thank yous via PayPal in a moment Keep up the good work!

Flash it again. I've discovered that if you flash to slot A you won't have SIM cards or sensors working but everything works properly when flashed to slot B. I have a feeling it's related to TWRP, for example it's currently a bit broken and can't be permanently installed on AOSP based ROMs.
@Inkypen just tried both B and A (in that order) and still no SIM detected. I am using your TWRP from that thread :/
Also, how to change SELinux status? Lineage Trust app complains about it.
Great work. Thank you.
Cts profile failed, selinux off. And safety tests not passing.
Any idea how fix it?
@shulfei and does the SIM card work for you?

Not sure what is wrong here, or if it's even the same issue I have when flashing to slot A. I'll need logs to investigate. Also you can turn off the SELinux warning in Trust settings.

CTS profile and Safetynet failures are both related to SELinux. There is a hack to hide SELinux status from Google services but I forgot to add it in (although I did add in the hack for the unlocked bootloader check). It's possible to add the SELinux hack onto a running phone but it's complicated. Good news is I'm wokring on SE policy in order to get it fully enforcing.
Don't try to force enable SELinux to enforcing, your phone will quite likely stop working properly until you set it back to permissive.

I might be the one user, who is mostly excited with the prospect of leaving MIUI behind.
Buti have to ask, what kind of procedure, did you use to flash the LOS-Build? I tried it like the way described but, it did not go well. Btw, i come from MIUI 13.

Reboot phone to fastboot mode.
Boot to twrp (get Inkypen version twrp-odin.img) via command
"""
fastboot boot twrp-odin.img
"""
Wipe all data how wrote Inkypen:
"""
Formatting data (all user data is wiped, including internal storage) is a must if MIUI was previously installed and device was encrypted.
Format data (wiping is not sufficient, formatting requires you to type "yes")
"""
Install LineageOS.
Install gapps arm64.
I mean between formatting data and install LOS, do you restart recovery?

No need to restart Recovery. But I suggest you to Install the Los/Gapps first, and than format data, otherwise the Rom won't boot. Also, make sure u flash the Rom on Slot B, although I had problem with flashing it on MiUi Beta. You can try it, anyway. Cheers.
New build succesfully installed .
Thanks for the update and especially gapps build this time.
