Honor 9 stuck at fastboot & rescue mode - Honor 9 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I am not an IT guy and apparantly not an intelligent man as well.
I tried rooting my phone following a guide I found and was able to unlock bootloader and install TWRP on my phone. When I tried the next step (installing Supersu) all my files appeared encrypted when I tried to install through TWRP. Checked some other guides that said "clean up data". Went to TWRP and wiped phone (genius). now i am stuck in fastboot & rescue mode or the emui recovery which does nothing.
"fastboot&rescue mode
please coonect usb cable to
your computer and open hisuite
Android reboot reason:AP_S_COLDBOT
NA
VOLUMNKEY_DOWN_PRESS_PROCESS_FUNC
PHONE Unlocked
FRP Unlock"
Any help appreciated and sorry about the new post but through reading other posts, the standard language you guys use is way too advanced for my comprehension

Ok so you're phone is PHONE Unlocked & FRP Unlock, good.
You have access to :
- bootloader, good.
- stock recovery or twrp ?
- erecovery ?
In stock recovery not twrp, did you tried to "Wipe Data/Factory reset" ?
In stock Erecovery, did you tried to "download latest version and recovery" (while having stock recovery on recovery, not twrp) ?
---------- Post added at 15:00 ---------- Previous post was at 14:58 ----------
Were you on nougat emui 5 or oreo emui 8 ?

I did install TWRP on it before everything happened but i dont have access to it anymore.
in erecovery I only have 3 options:
download latest version and recovery
reboot
shutdown
after clicking on download latest version and recovery, my screen goes into "connecting WIFI" and from there "getting package info failed"

if you have europe version , repair from e-recpvert not work.
you have to flash stock recovery and use a three fingers way for install B130

@Boomaye What happens when you boot to recovery ? (not erecovery ?)

@angelobiz I appreciate the help but remember i mentioned i am a novice at this? i am completely new to this, reason why i screwed up probably hehe... i bought it from gearbest and i am using it in South America
@oslo83
when i boot to recovery a screen with android cartoon appears with the following writting:
"fastboot&rescue mode
please coonect usb cable to
your computer and open hisuite
Android reboot reason:AP_S_COLDBOT
NA
VOLUMNKEY_DOWN_PRESS_PROCESS_FUNC
PHONE Unlocked
FRP Unlock"
when i do a regular boot the system enters a loop with honor logo and after a while of this boot loop it sends me to erecovery

Are you not misunderstanding recovery mode with boorloader mode ?

you have to check if you gave stock recovery or TWRP.
Close phone, and turn on the phone phone holding Volume UP and Power together,. WHITHOUT ANY USB CABLE CONNECTED (otherwise you will have e-recovery)
if you have stock recovery you have to do so:
1) download "stock service B130" from:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hon...stock-t3696892
2) copy UPDATE.APP and update_STF-L09_hw_eu.app to external SDCARD into /dload folder
turn on the phone holding Volume + and volume - and power ( three fingers way)
if all is good, phone restart in stocj recovery and update firmware....
you will have again bootloader and frp blocked
if you have twrp installed, you have to install again a stock recovery....
you can try:
1) download "stock service B130" from:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hon...stock-t3696892
2) download those 2 file from
https://mega.nz/#F!Y59nFYbJ!fb1f4UpEdgABZ4NhOfu1JQ
3) put all files in HWOTA7 directory on external SD
4)In TWRP find the folder HWOTA7 on the phone SD and from it flash the file "hwota7_update.zip"
he phone will reboot itself into the stock recovery and it will install the firmware.
++++++ Important ! ! ! ++++++
After have installed the firmware, you need to boot into the recovery and make a full Wipe
if all ok, b130 firmware will be flashed.
otherwise toy will have now a stock recovery installed and you can try whit three fingers mode

Sorry @oslo83 i may be, as i mentioned i lack the specific knowledge...
i can only boot it in fastboot&recovery through "down volume + power key" or in the regular mode which after looping through the Honor logo a few times stops at the "eRecovery" from huawei.
that is basically all i have access to

@angelobiz : if he's on oreo, will it work with these nougat's files ?
@Boomaye :
Were you on nougat, emui 5 or on oreo, emui 8 ?

ok, now you have to flash a valid recovery
we try whit a stock recovery:
downaload this recovery:
https://mega.nz/#!ostQGRpC!X38uOE0LDz5G7LJp27Ie_BqMBnx_6Zpe7AEbHtNPUQU
go in fastboot mode ( cooncet usb cable to pc holding volume- button)
and flash recovery:
fastboot flash recovery STF_RECOVERY_NoCheck.img
tell me is all is ok, and now you can go in recovery stock, turining phone holding volume+ and power button WHITOUT USB CABLECONNECTED

Hello,
i was able to access TWRP through power + volume up.
i downloaded the files you mentioned (but the link was broken, so i searched for the 130b on XDA and found it) and put them on the SD card.
i clicked install and selected the service full repair zip and swiped to install
my phone rebooted and i got an error instalation failed

hello guys,
after i followed Angelo steps and i got a failed instalation notice, i went to erecovery and it suddenly gave me the option for a factory reboot, which i did and now i can use the phone regularly.
i am back to ground zero
i am not sure exactly what i did that worked, but it worked even though it said failed
thanks for the help
edit: Angelo i sent a donation as thanks
thanks again

thanks a lot.

I think that you have flashed a valid recovery (e-recovery don't give you a choice of factory reset)
And so you can solve.
Maybe I don't know too h
What you have done... But it is important that now phone is ok.
Which firmware you have now?
Check if your bootloader and Frp are blocked and of you still have twrp

PLK-L01 Bootloop, power off

I am in bootloop and cannot power off phone. I have tried to fastboot recovery, boot, cust, cache, system, userdata from B121. Still impossible to power off the phone.
Did you try to go back to B100? Your file could be corrupted :/

No, not yet. I cannot enter Recovery. I can enter in Bootloader only. There is no way to go into Recovery from Bootloader without powering off the phone.
If you can access the bootloader, you can repair your phone.
Try the step 5 from this post :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7/general/guide-beginners-how-to-root-update-fix-t3255452
You must have already tried with B121. But try with other versions like B100. Be careful to flash everything (System, recovery, cust, cache, ...).
If it stlll doesn't work, I don't have anything left, but someone else might ! Good luck

I am aware of the thread you mention, already tried everything in there. I left the phone overnight in Bootloader to drain battery, which happened, but after connecting charger bootloop remains, I still cannot power off the phone and reach Recovery. The only partition I did not rewrite is /data.
How to do it from fastboot? If I rewrite /data, does it rewrite also phone /sdcard?
UPDATE: getting tools to open phone and remove battery, there is no other way to brake bootloop.

did not work, I could not go to TWRP. As I wrote in separate thread, now I am in B130 with B170 BOOT and RECOVERY. I have tried to reflash TWRP, but is no coming up.
I also do not like small space on SDCARD, total available (root / plus local /sdcard) is only 3GB
were you on B140 when you applied the 170? was it the french B170 or the Indian B170? (different phones)
170 patches those "blackbox" partitons, which could cause earlier kernels to suffer
I haven't moved from 140. people (in general) are just flashing anything posted it seems and for no good reason...
B121 works with B170 bootloader/recovery, but not with B121 bootloader/recovery
at http://www.android-hilfe.de/thema/honor-7-downgrade-von-b170-auf-b121-loesungsfindung.742330/ we discussed about quite the same problem.
the solution can be found in post #20.
if you flash b121 system and b170 boot/recovery your system should boot and you should be able to enter recovery by power & vol+ as well as force upgrade by power & vol+/-
you have to put the update.app from the 313>121 downgrade packag on your sd-card or internal memory (dload folder) and start the update process. the update will fail at 95%, but the system will boot and the build-number is B300.
after that you have to copy the update.app from the full b121 to your sd-card/internal memory and start the update process. update will reboot at 100% and your phone is back to stock b121

My recovery story was like this:
first B130 from bootloader (all partitions: boot, system, recovery, cust, cache, userdata), disconnecting USB and manual reboot to bootloader and then fastboot partitions BOOT and RECOVERY from B170; reboot and I was out of bootloop; however the root and internal SDCARD was only 3 GB instead of normal 10 GB, so I have updated complete UPDATE.APP (B122) from EMUI placing it in external SDCARD in /dload; then factory reset from stock recovery and the I have now 10 GB total space;
I did not need the B313, however I have noticed that boot and recovery partitions from B313 stopped the short-period bootloop, it just got stuck at boot logo; in this config it allowed me to go to stock recovery GUI and once left there to discharge the battery, the phone finally powered off itself and once reconnected to charger it did not start, it has started to recharge battery
problem

Then try the same cure: fastboot 121 partitions (see above), then fastboot BOOT and RECOVERY from B170 and you are out of booloop.
the problem is , no fastboot no recovery. I tried to press the 2 volume button + power , and the quick button in any combination, but nothing happens.

you can enter fb by only pressing vol- and connecting your phone to your pc.
the method by flashing system 121 und boot/recovery 170 was found suitable for peple who tried to upgrade from 121/140 > 170.
if you have tried to upgrade from 140>313, it could be worth trying to use boot/recovery from 313 instead of 170.
the 3gb space is a result from flashing userdata.img by fastboot. you also can resolve this problem with a factory reset.
Finally, after battery has left its last % of charge, phone has power off and I was able to boot in Update mode and it works as described !
Now I booted in B121 and it works !

KIW-L24 stuck in boot loop?

Hello,
I installed the beta cyanogenmod 13.0 for my Honor 5x about a month ago. I saw that recently a version was released with the fingerprint sensor functionality, but it required you to go back to stock and update to emui 4/MM. So, put the dload folder for the Emui 4.0 stock on my sdcard card, booted into bootloader, and flashed the old recovery. Now, when I boot my phone, it is stuck on the splash screen. I can go back into the bootloader and use fastboot commands, but nothing else. Help?
Edit: I tried flashing all of the recoveries for the KIW-L24, none changed anything, except the newest one caused the splash screen to go away after a few seconds, and a blue LED to appear.

I have done that but my phone continues to stay on the honor splash screen. I can only go into the fastboot/rescue mode by holding volume down and power.

flashing the partitions with fastboot is not needed with your phone.
The dload/update.app works, just be patient and follow the instructions I posted.
If you need to restore to Stock B151 use this TWRP backup >> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24588232905720643
You also need this version of TWRP to restore it >> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24545070682210514
Fastboot flash TWRP
in TWRP go to backup and check only boot.img > make the backup
now extract the b151 backup to your PC and copy it to the phone
their will be a directory named TWRP/BACKUPS/yourserialnumber/put the backup here
Now in TWRP choose Restore choose the backup you just copied over and be sure all the boxes are checked for restore
swipe to restore
be sure B331 dload/update.app are on the sdcard
In TWRP choose Reboot / Power Off
unplug the usb
hold power + volume up + volume down
when you see the first honor screen let go of power and hold the volume buttons till the update starts (be patient it takes a while)
EMUI recovery will load and do the update when it reboots your done
I had the same issue in the same scenario you described. It happened to me because my SD card was almost full. I'm guessing the Update file has to decompress and there was inadequate space available to complete the operation. When I switched to a clean SD card to run the update, it completed successfully. Hope this helps you!
I also had similiar issue, however the latest recovery from Huawei stopped at 5% and didn't complete. I flashed the recovery from B151 and ran the update again from the SD card and it worked.
remember you need spare space on the device for the update process! Keep around a gig free on whatever storage device you use for the procedure (internal or external SD)

Download the latest firmware for your phone, extract it to get update.app, use Huawei update extractor to extract stock recovery.img from update.app
Flash recovery.img in bootloader mode(the same way you flashed twrp).
Copy update.app to a folder named dload in your SD card. Turn off the phone and press and hold power, Vol up, Vol down until a reboot. Let go of power after reboot but keep other two pressed for five, six sec more.
Still Failing

Yep, it should work. But best way is to install official firmware yourself. It's not so difficult as you are already familiar with flashing images.

Power + vol up always takes you to recovery, right now you have twrp recovery so you are booting into it.
If you flash stock recovery then it will take you to stock recovery.
Best method is as I said, flash stock recovery, update using three button method.
Flashing a twrp backup is a solution but not the first recommended one.

First copy the dload to your memory card with update.app. Then Flush Stock recovery and power off or reboot while pressing both volume button.

while porting CM13, I got message Patching system image unconditionally while installing.
And Phone stuck in the boot loop of CM13 logo and restarts every time.
I have installed CM13 previously, it worked fine. But now I am unable to port it.

@[email protected] This doesn't always work! I am a veteran at flashing phones. New to the Honor 5X, but I have done my fair share of flashing to understand what is happening a little bit behind the scenes. I flashed Cosmic OS but decided to return to stock for the camera app. Like an idiot, I did not make a TWRP backup of my stock image. I flashed stock recovery and tried to Force Update the B331 UPDATE.APP and it hangs at 5% just like another user here. Going to restore a TWRP backup to see if that is more successful for my situation.
Set sdcard as default storage
hello,
I have tried almost all the methods told in the conversation but i could not install the stock ROM.
I always shows software Update fail and forces to power down the phone . My phone is Honor 5X KIW-L22
Please help me on this Issue.
I have also tried to install the ROMs But it stucks after the initial Loading.
Bootloop after flashing any compatible rom
Flashing any custom rom in kiwi l22 , it always bootloops. What to do. I want to flash new rom but always bootloops. How to fix it.

[SOLVED] Bricked + Formated my Honor 7. Need a ROM

Hey guys,
I've had a total of 4 android smartphones during the last years, and I did root all of them and even install diferent ROM's, but on this phone (Honor 7) was kinda diferent.
The root process is way more complex than all the other androids I did root (simply flash a .zip file...) so I've been post-poning this task over and over..
Finally yesterday I gained courage to try out rooting my phone, and while attempting to root my Honor 7, after flashing SuperSU from TWRP, my phone no longer booted.
Stressed as I was, I just told to myself "f*ck it" and formatted the system and I didn't care much if there was a fix without needing to format the system. (but then I realised that I could not find any .img ROM files to flash from TWRP recovery, so basically I did my actions wrong once again)
I followed the tutorial from guidebeats.com which talks about rooting EMUI 4.0 Android 6.0 (I cant post links)
Basically this is the story:
While unlocking the bootloader, even though, the tutorial said the phone would reboot itself after typing "flashboot oem unlock 1234934829" I did a hard reboot (or reset?) holding (VOL+) + Power button and I have the feeling that the bootloader unlock was not 100% done, even if it said it was unlocked. (Phone was working perfectly fine there)
Then I flashed SuperSU, and I could no longer boot. After powering up my phone, after the first splashscreen, the screen would only turn black.
What (I think) I need to now is remove the TWRP recovery, and use the stock one and attempt to install an "update" using (Vol+) + (Vol-) + Power. (please correct me if I'm wrong)
But now there's some issues I got that I'd like some help with:
1- How can I get back to the stock recovery? (NOTE: I currently got no OS installed on my Honor 7, since I formated it)
2- Will I need to lock and unlock my bootloader again (if I want to 'fix' the bootloader unlock?)
3- Where can I get official Honor 7 stock ROM? (would be awesome if there was already the Android 6 stock rom for a clean install)
4- What are the steps on this tool (Honor 7 Multi-Tool) to root my phone?
I need my Honor 7 asap
Sorry for the long post, It's my first time doing a more advanced root and I have all these questions.
Thank you very much for any kind help!

As you are already familiar with adb and other stuff so will write a short post for you.
To download latest firmware, head to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/hon...tock-firmware-packages-honor-7-t3448747/page1
Google, download and install Huawei update extractor and open UPDATE.APP in it (obtained after extracting firmware).
You can see all the images. Just extract recovery and boot to platform-tools folder.
Meantime, do the unlocking command again, with
Fastboot OEM unlock xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Followed by fastboot reboot
And press and hold the vol down button again until you reboot in bootloader.
Flash the recovery and boot you extracted using
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
(I got a habit of extracting and flashing system and Cust using
Fastboot flash system system.img
Fastboot flash Cust Cust.img
But they are not necessary)
Now you are set to try a 3 button update (sometimes it gets stuck so if it's stuck for 15 minutes, try 3 button again).
Please do report back if it comes to life.
To root, just flash twrp and then use SuperSU 2.62 (no other version) and update it later using play store.

Hey!
Thank you alot for your reply.
From the link you sent about the firmwares, there are alot of Builds for the L01 (EU) model. Can I simply use the latest from the list or I gotta install 1 by 1 (from older to newer)?
Also, the bootloader unlock thing, is it ok if I wait to do it until I install the stock ROM again? Because I think I don't have the code anymore (Also don't know about IMEI)
Other thing, yesterday before bricking my phone, I tried to re-unlock the bootloader as you said above, but it didnt let me because "it was already unlocked".
I really have no idea if it's 100% unlocked or not.
important thing!
With those ROM's, I still have the right to receive official OTA updates from the HiCare app right?
Thank you again

Just use B380 as it's the latest full firmware available there.
Unlocking bootloader again was just a precautionary measure (proceed without it and if it is not 100% unlocked and if something goes wrong, we can troubleshoot later, which imo, won't happen)
And yep, if you keep the firmware as it is, but if you flash twrp and root, you will still see the update available in Hicare but will have to install stock recovery again before upgrading. (Nothing else is needed as SuperSU 2.62 gives a systemless root so you only need to flash back stock recovery for an update)
I am not against honor-tool bit it's best to do things manually as it makes you learn stuff and is easy to troubleshoot if something is amiss.

You have to make a dload folder in SD card and copy UPDATE.APP to that folder.
Then just turn off the phone, press and hold power + vol up + vol down until phone boots.
Let go of power but keep others two pressed for 5, 6 sec more. Your phone will boot into recovery and start installing UPDATE.APP
It likes to get stuck at 5% (most reports) but sometimes, somewhere else. If its stuck for 15 minutes on a particular percentage, just press and hold the above three buttons again using the same process.
Multiple tries make it work...

Better yet, you can search DigiGoon and pay him for the coffee, he taught me what I told you.

Hello
How did you format your phone?
I'm still struggling with going back to Android 5 and EMUI 3.1 since there is no rollback file available. (PLK-AL10, B396) Maybe formatting and installing the old rom could be a solution, like in your case?

Hello.
Do you have unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery? You can format your phone from TWRP recovery.
I think the only option for you is to get the old ROM img and flash it (starting from 0)
You can dirty-flash (Flash a different ROM with same android version as yours, e.g: flashing custom android 5 ROM over your stock android 5 ROM without factory resetting your phone) but I dont think you can do that from Android 6 to 5.

Yes I have unlocked bootloader and currently not twrp but I can flash it at any time.
The last two paragraphs you wrote are different solutions or the last one is a more detailed explanation of the previous?
I have android 6 so the later method won't work as you said.
But formatting it and flashing a stock android 5 rom - is it that simple? Nobody here suggested this before, however I have been asking for months.
All the phones are empty when they leave the assembly line.
How did you flash the new rom to your formatted phone? Extracted update.app and flashed each file with fastboot? Any issues you faced?

From my last 2 paragraphs, the first was a solution, the second was an impossible alternative that I thought it would work.
My issue was that I had a custom recovery but I had no ROM installed, so I had to install the stock recovery and boot (extracting from update.app) and flashing it via fastboot, to afterwards force the update with 3-button method.
-----
What you'll need to do is:
- Flash TWRP
- Wype system, data, cache.. (so that you completely delete your current ROM)
- Extract recovery.img and boot.img from an update.app of an Android 5 ROM you'd like to have (Official ROM for your device model)
- Flash them via fastboot (You'll go back to stock recovery again)
- Shutdown your device
- Create a folder named "dload" on your sdcard and put UPDATE.APP file in it.
- Reboot
- Do the 3-Button update ([Vol+] + [Vol-] + Power)
- If it works, it will auto install
(- If it gets stuck on 5% for over 5/10min, force reboot pressing [Vol+] + Power) and try again the installation
- After installing it will boot normally (first boot takes a while)
NOTE: I'd recommend creading the dload folder before wiping the ROM, because usb didnt work for me afterwards. (It would still work if I was on recovery tho)
>> Remember to make a full system backup before wiping aswell, dont be stupid like me xD (thats why I had to full wipe my system after soft-brick)
Im answering based on what I did and was explained here to me

Hi again,
I'm doing this OS installation now. It starts fine but stucks at 90%, (I'm trying to install the latest stock ROM which can be downloaded from Huawei site, B220 or221). Did you have the same issue? I waited more than half an hour at 90% but did not go on.

Maybe formatting, Flash stock Android 5 recovery using Honor multitool , and then Flash a Android 5 firmware
Not sure it Will Work without rollback..
Finally, after 2 months of struggling I managed to get back to Android 5 and EMUI 3.1 without a rollback file.
Here is what I did:
0. Download a full ROM you want to install
1. Backup of the current system with Hisuite (everything. Apps, media, contacts, call log, etc.)
2. Flash TWRP recovery with fastboot (start phone in fastboot mode)
3. Wipe (and format!) everything you can with TWRP
4. Extract boot.img and recovery.img from update.app of the new ROM with Huawei Update Extractor
5. Flash boot.img and recovery.img with fastboot.
6. Copy update app to dload folder on SD card, insert into the phone.
7. Restart phone with [VOL+] + [VOL-] + [Power] buttons to force update.
8. The system will be installed from SD card. I had no issues with the installation. First I did not format the phone (just wiped) and it did not work.
9. Restore data from backup.
The only strange thing is that the native app icons look different than my previous lollipop system. Don't know why. They are less colorful. I installed C00B220 for PLK-AL10.

Yes it does. (It did for me.) Technically this is not a rollback but installing a brand new system on an empty phone. That's why it is important to do a backup upfront.

3 The phone will reboot into the TWRP recovery
4 In TWRP, find the hwota8 folder on the SD card and flash the "hwota8_update.zip"
5 The phone will reboot into the stock recovery and it will install the firmware
++++++ IMPORTANT ! !! !!++++++
After installing the firmware you need to boot into the recovery and make a full wipe!

I have already tried the HWOTA8 way but maybe it was bad files, i will retry with those files ! Thanks

EMUI 9 root

Hi everyone. I have android 9.1.0.132. Trying to root with magisk via twrp, but not working. Anyone did root EMUI 9?
You need to patch your recovery ramdisk image. backup image with twrp or fastboot, patch with magisk manager and flash as recovery (same way you'd flash twrp)
You then need to boot your phone every time via recovery. It'll boot into android as normal but with root.
I don't know how to backup image with fastboot. Im twrp pretoriano80 don't know whitch partition backup. Please some insruction
you need to be bootloader unlocked
here are magisk patched recovery from 9.1.0.134 emui 9 version
next, you need in fastboot "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magisk_patched.img" flash it (hope you know how to flash img ??)
then, you need fastboot reboot, remuve usb
this is critical, when you see:
""your device unlocked and cant be trusted
1 pres power to boot
2 pres volume up 3 sec to boot in erecovery
3 dont do anything ... """

When restarting your phone, make sure you press volume up + power, to boot in recovery. That way you should not have to flash again. If however, you forget to press this combo, your recovery get's replaced with the stock and you'll have to flash it again.

i was thinking that when we use your guide then we do not have twrp installed if we need the stock recovery_ramdisk patched.. so use the erecovery_ramdisk for twrp, also its easyer to enter .. its just to hold the vol+ for 3 sek ... and bum your in twrp..
it works tested it...
ps.
fastboot will not let us flash erecovery_ramdisk so before replacing recovery_ramdisk use twrp to flash the twrp into erecovery_ramdisk ..
then replace recovery_ramdisk with patched img
@brokenworm: could you please explain your ps? I am not really a newbie, but I have no glue, what you talking about?!

Answer is simple ... First fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk TWRP.img .... then enter recovery..
Now from Twrp recovery flash TWRP.img into Erecovery_ramdisk... Now flash the magisk patched recovery_ramdisk either with fastboot or from twrp before exiting into partition recovery_ramdisk.
Erecovery_ramdisk can only be flashed like that becoes fastboot blocks it.
The solution for still having twrp in 9.1 emui roms... Also editing vendor give us the solution to backup and restore a complete nandroid backup. AND this way you do not need to hold a button every time you restart .. from twrp you only need to push reboot recovery to enter the rom ONCE ! AND it will stick .. only "bug" is your phone can not poweroff .. actually good if it gets stolen..
Look here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...w-to-remove-data-encryption-emui-9-1-t3953946
Recovery_ramdisk = vol+ & power.
Erecovery_ramdisk = vol+
Bootloader = vol- & power
This way we dont need to hold a button when rebooting....... twrp fixes that automaticly .. you need to boot in to rom from twrp placed in erecovery_ramdisk by selecting "reboot recovery" instead of "reboot system"... Then it will boot correctly everytime.
And you only have to do this one time.
I have not try but thanks
Hi!
I own an ANE-LX1 device with EMUI9.1
I did everything exactly as described in this or in other threads but I am still unable to root
Just to quickly summarize:
1. my bootloader is unlocked
2. using Magisk app I patched the stock recovery image (recovery_ramdis.img)
3. using fastboot I flashed the patched image
4. now the next step is pretty much unclear for me: reboot the system to what target? all XDA threads (including this one) description at this point sucks! sorry for bad words but this is true
5. anyway tried to reboot to the recovery - this is not possible - I only see exactly the below messages, no matter how long I wait:
Code:
Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted.
To learn more visit:
http://zh.ui.vmall.com/emotiondownload.php?mod=restore
Your device is booting now...
Tried any possible combination, like disconnect USB cable, keep USB cable, reboot normally, reboot to eRecovery, no matter which one, the result is:
When I check in the Magisk manager app, itt tells: Magisk is not installed.
So please anybody who has successfully rooted, can u make a video showing the whole rooting process, but especially with the step after fastboot flash, i.e. how exactly to reboot, what buttons to press/hold up to the state where the Magisk Manager app shows: Rooted.
I am able to pay for the video! Seriously!!!
PS:
Besides all the description and tutorial it is not clear for me, why should be the system rooted, when we patch only the recovery_ramdisk image/partition. It somehow makes no sense.
I need root for my running EMUI system, and not for the recovery.
Thanks and regards,
Ladislav

You need to patch your recovery ramdisk image. backup image with twrp or fastboot, patch with magisk manager and flash as recovery (same way you'd flash twrp)
You then need to boot your phone every time via recovery. It'll boot into android as normal but with root.

I have rooted my P20 lite with the steps from this thread. Today my phone notified my that there was a firmware update (from 9.1.0.200 to 9.1.0.208). But I'm stuck in the update process. I can not boot to a recovery to update. Can anyone get me some advice?

With Huawei HiSuite program and the device's fastboot mode you can restore the device.
Once u successfully restored it, can u pls make a video where you show, how did you root your phone and shar it with me?

Before update you need in fastboot flash original recovery, because magisk patched recovery are booting in system with root acces, so you can't update phone while it are rooted

Hei!
Your phone are bootloader locked or unlocked ?
If you have not bootloader code, aka unlocked bootloader, you can't root phone, because we need patch ramdisk.img with magisk manager and flash it in fastboot using fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magiskpatchedramdiak.img

my files here : magisk_patched.img for root, RECOVERY_RAMDIS208.img original, to update phone, app-release.apk magisk manager i used
Oh, and buttons i presed after fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magisk_patched.img is volume up and power!

I did exactly what you did in video, but I still can't properly reboot.
When I press Volume Up + Power after flash, the device reboots and stucks at the screen after Huawei logo and I see only the well known:
Code:
Your device is booting now...
message but it never starts the system, at least I did wait 10 minutes and nothing happened, while on your video after reboot with key combination your phone booted into normal system after cca. 1 minute.
I'll try to reflash the whole system via dload method and try again from beginning.
OK, so finally I also was able to root my ANE-LX1.
But it worked only after I reflashed the whole system via dload method.
Many thanks, @Arnys for the tips!
