Security update, you have custom rom like los mokee or crdroid.
But for the rest, you right, welcome to consumer society.

Thanks a lot , exactly our 5x is slowly dying

if you had even bothered to search you would see that some devs are trying to bring oreo to the 5x but its not easy. the 5x is an obsolete budget device. huawei gave up on it after MM yet we have nougat thanks to hard working devs. the latest git posts show some progress on oreo and im sure they will eventually succeed in bringing oreo to the 5x.
for those that are impatient and want the latest update i suggest you buy a flagship with a strong dev community. nokia makes way better devices at a similar price point if money is an issue. anything released this year will come with treble support so i suggest buying something new.

Thats the point, if we dont had such great devs for los we would have nothing cause all customs roms dont care about old phones and so do manufacters.
I cant complain about this phone, best phone i bought with the oppo find7 which i lost.

not quite true, most devices have at least a bit of development interest but its not easy without having the necessary tools. thankfully google has made it easier with treble but it will still take some time until it spreads. it wont be long until os updates will come directly from google and not the OEM.
i wouldnt count on the 5x going past oreo. the good thing is that even budget devices are shipping with treble so a good selection of devices will be available from here on. im just waiting till the LG G6 gets oreo so i can ditch this phone. i hope everyone else has good alternatives.

Install lineage and get monthly security updates, who cares about oreo, if you want to have oreo functions customise your rom, there's no function on oreo that probably cant be added with an app

I see android n was released today. aside from custom roms do you think theres a chance the 5x will get it officially?
Maybe, but not anytime soon, I don't think. Even with the XDA partnership with Honor, I'll say at least 3 months.

i think it would take time,huawei/honor has always been behind others considering updates.
lets see if partenship with xda makes any difference.
I dont think so we wait CM or other Custom Rom .....Huawei very late when to update ...
i would say yes. Nougat was will be the last update most probably this phone could get. It has everything it needs to support android N and moreover it was launched this year... So there are good chances that we will get android 7.
And here I haven't even got the MM update...:crying:

am not aware of regions, anyways bad luck :crying:
EMUI, at least two months.....a custom ROM, probably a month at max
Depends on your region. If you are in L21, L22 and L24 version you are likely to get it. And remember that this may be the last update which you will get.
The Honor 4x which came with KitKat is now running on MM. So hopefully Honor will update its devices atleast till 2 increments.

EMUI 5 by rom custom ?

Hello,
Please excuse me in advance for my wobbly English. I am French and I do not speak your language
It seems that for the Honor 5X, we will not get Android Nougat. My wife had the update on her Honor 5C and I must say that version 5 of EMUI pleases me very much. Already I like version 4, the last one makes me look.
My question is: is it possible to get EMUI 5 through a custom rom or is it impossible?
Thank you.

It's not. Sadly. There are a lot of AOSP custom roms though.
I suspected it but I still asked the question in case.
It is true that there is quite a lot of custom rom and it is not easy to sort especially that as I said, I am French so I have trouble to fully understand the content of these rom.
I hesitate to go through a custom rom with Android 7 because I would lose EMUI. Unless there is one that resembles this overlay.
MIUI is the closest one to it, maybe if someone port it to the 5x

Just because I appreciate EMUI a lot. It's hard to explain but I have a good feeling with this overcoat.
I would like to go through a custom rom to be up to date on Android but I would lose what makes for me one of the charms of Honor 5X ie EMUI.
I'm tempted to test Lineage but it's the Android stock visually and it does not attract me much, I find it a bit austere.
Sure, I could add a lot of applications like launcher but that's the kind of thing I prefer to avoid. The goal is not to take the risk that it slows down the phone.
Ps: I hope my english remains understanding for you.

It's not really a matter of being a fanboy of a brand because the Honor 5X is my very first Honor so my experience on this brand is minimal.
It's just that compared to what I had before, it mainly changes from a stock rom and I find the overcoat rather practical and pleasant visually even more when I see version 5 of EMUI on the 5C of my wife lol

But , i suppose emui 5 should be on 5x instead of 5c . But what not , they just did there good for hisilicon chip
It's just a shame because the 5X and the 5C are very close technically but according to my information, it is because of this policy that Honor makes only one major update on its devices and since the 5X has already had ...
And it's all the more sad that the security updates do not follow either. If I remember correctly, we have barely two and the last and the last fix I have is September 1, 2016.
Honor comes out of very good devices accessible but the follower is really not exemplary. I did not expect any miracles in view of the prices but I am still disappointed that the devices are so quickly abandoned.

I dont if u have noticed this , honor had updated its kirin chips to emui 5 . Since 5x uses sd615 , they dint did it.
A recent update? If so, I have not had anything since September 1, 2016. Of memory, it was mainly for a fix related to the processor.
Despite your information, it seems that the update of Android 7 and EMUI 5 is not topical for the 5X.

He was talking about the Kirin chipset made by Huawei. It seems that they only update the devices to EMUI 5 those which run in Kirin. While Honor 5X is using Snapdragon chipset.
Sent from my Honor 8 using XDA Labs
Please excuse me. As I use a translator, I misunderstood the sentence and I also forgot that the 5X does not use the Kirin unlike the 5C.
But I doubt that the Snapdragon processor is the problem because when upgrading to Android M, the 5X went from EMUI 3 to 4.
It's just that Honor does not have the policy to do a serious follow up of his products.

Beta should be coming soon. For most countries in Europe. But it still is pretty disappointing that S8 got Oreo and Note8 which uses similar hardware didn't. Plus Samsung could support Note users after Note7 failure.
And porting Oreo to N8 from S8 is really difficult. First beta didn't boot for some reason and getting a logcat with Samsungs new security is bit more difficult. Second beta has even more security which makes it even worse.
Did You guys hear that all Oreo devices have to use Project Treble? So once we get official Oreo we can boot Generic AOSP on our phones!
Coolness

Currently it's just disabled in build.prop(S8 beta) but Google requires all manufacturers to use and enable Project Treble. Doesn't seem like any Oreo betas have it. But official releases will be forced to have that. It's not recommended anymore. Now Google forces all manufacturers to use it. Samsung is already using HIDL in Oreo beta which is a good sign. But still. They have to give us Treble. Otherwise Google will be mad lol idk.

I don't think that's how Treble works. The news that XDA had yesterday was that it seemed easier to port an AOSP ROM. You still need to be able to flash it, and as long as the Snapdragon bootloader remains locked, there won't be any custom ROMs for our phones.
The good news for most of us is that security and core Android updates won't be held up by the manufacturers and the carriers.

I'm glad yours is more up to date than my UK Exynos version. I bought it on launch day and had a update that day and that was it. In my opinion that's not good enough for such an expensive phone. But I'm a sucka for Samsung phones so guess I'll just get on with it.
Ps it's not tied to any carrier, so I'm waiting for a update directly from Samsung.

Guys I request everyone not to purchase these honor branded devices, even though they are marketed as flagship killers they won't receive proper updates once the device gets past the 6-9 month period, you can't even expect security updates one has to literally beg them, its better to purchase one plus, Samsung and Sony flagships because they are at least guaranteed to receive security update when ever there is a bug and proper OS upgrades, they ditched their flagship honor 7 from receiving nougat update stating Kirin 935 soc isn't compatible with newer update, similar lines this year they ditched honor 8 which boasts another flagship SOC Kirin 950 , stating the same reason its not compatible with newer Oreo update, so it clearly means that kirin 9xx is a flagship grade chip set series from Huawei which is not supportive for future upgrades? So is it good to buy them even after knowing their compatibility issues with future upgrades? I had invested 29k INR in Nov 2016 during honor 8 launch time, India and purchased this device over one plus 3T trusting their 2 year software update policy and security updates for every 3 months, clearly they cheated me and I regret buying honor 8 using my hard earned money instead of one plus device, so i request everyone to boycott honor devices, but the strange thing is honor mid ranges like 655 equipped devices are confirmed for Oreo, its a clear case of cheating to drive growth of newer flagships by ditching older flagships, Huawei as a brand itself has lot of conspiracies surrounding it, its better if we developer community boycott such brands, Good that US regulatory authorities are imposing ban on huawei, I can see the future of this company going down the drain in the similar way they expanded
I request xda please don't support this brand for monetary gains and spoil your reputation!

huawei have officially stated that the honor 8 WILL be receiving oreo,
as for the honor 9, it has full support for project treble once it gets oreo (suppose the honor 8 will have that too)
considering oreo beta 2 is taking place at he moment within Europe, i can't expect any more than 1 month until it at least becomes available in the firmwarefinder app

Ok, i believe i was mistaken on that one, i was pretty sure i'd read that oreo beta was taking place on both the honor 9 and 8, BUT iv'e just checked and it turns out that the honor 8 isn't officially getting oreo.
Either way, as iv'e already stated, once official oreo for the honor 9 is out, and devs get hold of the source, since its a fully supported treble build, i can only assume the custom ROMs should start to appear.
The SOC in the honor 8 is not too different from the kirin 960 (going by the actual ARM cores used in it 4xA53 in both, though the 950 has 4xA72 rather than A73 in the 960), so i can't see there being too much difficulty in porting the source code for the 960 to the 950 (i'm not proficient in this topic, so please correct me if i'm wrong, I stick to application programming, not OS core stuff)
Either way, I HOPE with project treble porting to different CPUs should be easier than it is now (requiring source code from manufacturer etc...) and hopefully we see some more custom ROMs.
Just waiting for lineage 15...

MIUI 9.5 with Android 7.0 is comming via OTA

Hey I just heard from digit.in that xiaomi is rolling MIUI 9.5 based on Android 7.0 to 30 of it's devices including our beloved redmi 3s series. If nothing went wrong, it would be released within few days.I think we can expect some more roms for our devices now. Cheers:laugh:
Yeah it really must be truth. Stable 7.0 without testing in dev builds.
Here it is. As you see still 6.0 and yeah, still almost year old security patch.

F__k Xiaomi
Was my first Xiaomi, and now is my last!!!!
Never never Xiaomi again!!
Guys they sell great value for money products.. u can always change the software but what matters is the hardware.
Take the example of leco le max 2 it has snapdragon 820 at a price range of 10500 at banggoods, no one can match.. To its performance per dollar ?..
But still 6.1
?
I am cool with my phone and thank xiaomi because of it selling so many phones we have got such a great community on xda..
I have my pixel but still use my redmi 3s as it being my first phone.

Someone actually know when would android nougat be available on this device?
its a shame, that they not even update the security patch level: still from 04/2017!!!
Otherwise:
i love MIUI - i don't need Nougat/Oreo...
everything work perfekt for me. But Performance and Akku is better in LOS and co...
yup I really hate xiaomi for not providing at least one android upgrade and for this ancient security patch. the moderators on miui forum are very rude one word against xiaomi and baaaam instant ban. They are bootlickers of xiaomi. I also hate ugly round green coloured notification toggles. and with every stable update new bloatwares and no option to remove them and also plenty full of ads
Never

Xiaomi is fooling us by upadting MIUI version. They are not updating Android version.
To everyone complaining about miui. It's true that it's a bad OS but not ****ty. As a matter of fact, MIUI is far more stable than any of the custom ROMs available. Xiaomi instead of bumping the android version from marshmallow, keeps increasing the stability with marshmallow which isn't bad. And those suffering from bloatware, use modded miui like Xiaomi.eu or miuipro.
Official MIUI with Android 7.0 or higher will NEVER come to the 3S. Just flash official LineagOS 14.1, is as stable as the stock ROM, you'll have decent notifications and no bloatware.
The MIUI update 9.5.1 was actually pulled back and made nightly due to critical bugs.
http://en.miui.com/thread-2160466-1-1.html
The update was on Android 6.0.1 (obviously) and with April Security patch ( 2017 not 2018 )
So in short use Custom ROMs and be happy with the minimal bugs and in return get solid performance and stability.
My recommendations : crDroid 3.8.5 OFFICIAL
