Petition for Project Treble Support for Note 8? Suggestions/Discussion - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello Guys,
As the Topic says, what do you think about Project Treble Support for our Note 8! Should a Petition help us to bring it to our device? Your Kind Opinion/Suggestions required!
Thanks & Regards

No Treble for Note8
Since Samsung did not manage to import Treble in the new Oreo version, I think there will never be a treble for the Note8.
Now it will be even harder to implement Treble.

I don't think it would be even possible as an OTA update to do so, somebody explained it in another thread, personally I'm not bothered but at least going forward any Android launched with Oreo will support project treble, to the vast majority of user I don't think it matters

An earlier XDA article mentions that Google are working with some companies (no specific company mentioned). It could mean that maybe samsung will work with Google to ensure project treble to our device but we simply don't know yet. Fingers crossed though.

Security update, you have custom rom like los mokee or crdroid.
But for the rest, you right, welcome to consumer society.

Thanks a lot , exactly our 5x is slowly dying
if you had even bothered to search you would see that some devs are trying to bring oreo to the 5x but its not easy. the 5x is an obsolete budget device. huawei gave up on it after MM yet we have nougat thanks to hard working devs. the latest git posts show some progress on oreo and im sure they will eventually succeed in bringing oreo to the 5x.
for those that are impatient and want the latest update i suggest you buy a flagship with a strong dev community. nokia makes way better devices at a similar price point if money is an issue. anything released this year will come with treble support so i suggest buying something new.

Thats the point, if we dont had such great devs for los we would have nothing cause all customs roms dont care about old phones and so do manufacters.
I cant complain about this phone, best phone i bought with the oppo find7 which i lost.

not quite true, most devices have at least a bit of development interest but its not easy without having the necessary tools. thankfully google has made it easier with treble but it will still take some time until it spreads. it wont be long until os updates will come directly from google and not the OEM.
i wouldnt count on the 5x going past oreo. the good thing is that even budget devices are shipping with treble so a good selection of devices will be available from here on. im just waiting till the LG G6 gets oreo so i can ditch this phone. i hope everyone else has good alternatives.
Install lineage and get monthly security updates, who cares about oreo, if you want to have oreo functions customise your rom, there's no function on oreo that probably cant be added with an app

[REQUEST] Treble Support

Hello All,
So this thread is dedicated to bringing treble to our note 8! The Galaxy S9 has received treble support and it's disappointing to not see it here.
What is treble?
It's basically a method of partitioning the system by separating the drivers (vendor) and the actual system. This allows for flashing of GSIs and according to current results from the S9 EVERYTHING WORKS without a hitch.
So please developers bring this to our devices and let us enjoy bugless AOSP!
Link to S9 Treble: https://www.google.ae/amp/s/forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/howto-treble-s9-t3765558/amp/
So you do realize that S9 came with treble from the factory right? The only way to bring treble to the n8 is via repartitioning the device and it can be fairly risky if you dont know what you are doing. I suggest you read some device threads that users have partitioned to treble and not a device that comes with it from the factory

To be honest note 8 just need kenrel supporting treble . We got twrp supporting treble but no kernel . There are no devs who really care about note 8 so I wouldn't expect much . But it's possible to port it
I dont think it ever will come the note 9 just got root i think if im not wrong according to to majisk amd its already partitioned for treble so basically the note 8 is toast once the father of root decided to leave thats it.!! It happened to alot of snapdragon samsungs this one will always stay on 7.1.1 with root hope this helps. Ive planned to jump in november
On my side, i don t understand why it s not possible for the note 8 when one plus 3, oneplus 5 and galaxy note 3 are in the treble update list (i ve read this list on xda). I just think sammy doesn t want to give treble for note 8 to force peoples to jump for the note 9 which is not attractive for me because the new spen features are gadget for me and the battery life will be the same (yes the spen blutooth explain a bigger battery). I think i will wait for the note 10 or the oneplus 6t (maybe it will feature a pen lol). The time will say.

I m sorry. After reading your comment, i v searched for the link and realized that i make a mistake. You re right. The note 3 is listed to receive android pie and no treble. As we know that all of the devices wich have oreo out of the box will automatically have treble and reading that some oneplus old devices will get treble, and seeing note 3 will receive android 9, i did a very speed conclusion that the note 3 will receive project treble. It s my mistake and i apologize for that. Really sorry.

No worries at all! I was just curious . Thank you for following up and confirming!
i dont know if that the same i have huawe mate 8 and i cant flash oreo rom over nougat becoz partion so when i debrand it and got oreo via ota im able to flash oreo rom and treble what i want to say oreo partions allows treble dunno about note 8! maybe?
would love to see treble for the note 8. the dev love will eventually come to the note 8 as well, it is a really popular phone and over the next year or so most "regular" users will upgrade again and the moding community ill pick up on cheap, second hand note 8's as it is an excellent phone. really wish there was an AOSP rom with absolutely no samsung bull****, even if I would have to give up a lot of features - treble would make that possible.

Phone for Lineage OS.

I am not sure what section to post this question in and I am not aware that this question has been answered.
Where to I find a list of recent phones or tablets suitable for Lineage OS? The LineageOS own site is a mix of really old phones with more recent ones and omits all non official ports.
The question is actually quite simple: suppose I want to buy a phone or a tablet today to install LineageOS. What are the options?
The requirements are:
-the device should not be too old (issued in 2017-2018), or I can't buy it new
-it should support Lineage 14 or 15
-Lineage should be installable on the current version, ideally without needing to register as a developper by the manufacturer.
The latter is more tricky than it seems. For example, the Samsung A5 is officially supported by LineageOS 14, but there is no LineageOS 15 rom available. Current versions come with Android 8.0 and cannot be downgraded to LineageOS 14. Besides, Samsung added extra security on their bootloader which makes installation a real pain.

Why not just shortlist a few devices you like and then checking whether they have good dev support?
Samsung is the toughest to get a bug-free lineage os rom, so strike that
OnePlus has good dev support and some Xiaomi phones too

Thank you for your answer.
I did not consider OnePlus, because their phones are only available for a short period of time. When LineageOS is available, the phone is usually out of production. Xiaomi, I don't know about their phones.
Do you know if OnePlus and Xiaomi allow installation of alternatrive roms without requiring an unlock key from the manufacturer?

OnePlus doesn't require a key from the manufacturer. OnePlus 6 or 6t should be a good bet if you don't mind the notch . However, unlocking a Xiaomi bootloader may be time-consuming since you need a code and it can take time to get.
EDIT; You can't go wrong with a Google Pixel 2XL , all roms will work seamlessly

So, Xiaomi would be a second choice. I don't really want to have to beg the manufacturer for an unlock code.
I checked about the OnePlus 6 and 6T. No real development yet on 6T, since the phone is not publicly available (expected). LineageOS 15 does not appear to be maintained any more on the 6. Bummer.

I checked the Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL. There are difficulties with these phones because of encryption, but they can be solved. Lineage is a special build that comes with gapps pre-installed. I dont want gapps at all.
Thank you for your help, but I still don't have what I am looking for: a phone, reasonably recent so as to be available new, with a reasonably usable Lineage OS 15 installable without too much trouble.
I also asked about a tablet, but that seems even more difficult.

Project Treble For Honor 5X

Hello everyone
Has anyone tried to port Treble to this device?
It doesn't seem that way, but we should. Porting project treble to this phone would make it future proof and compatible with a huge number of other ROMS out there. Then, devs could focus on the ROMs themselves rather than supporting individual devices. I wish i could help out, but I dont know much about android coding.

What makes a custom rom development possible?

Tittle says it all. Why pocophone as soon as september 2018 already had custom roms avaiable here on XDA and other phones such as Mi 9, S10, V20 almost 3 months since launch doesn't have any?
What makes it possible to develop custom OS and ported OS?
I really wanted to purchase a Mi 9 but MIUI is absolutely unbearable. Will miss so much OOS for Poco F1
Edit: Is it a long way to learn how to port ROMs, GSI to the point i can develop my own OOS for my desired phone?
It's about how popular the device gets. Pocophone is indeed very popular due do having flagship SOC for a very low price compared to Flagship phones. Also, Xiaomi made Source Code available literally after the phone launched. Good price, source code, popularity, attracts the developers.
Also, why do you miss OOS? It's still alive and being updated. Beta version for example. You just need to join their VIP section for some cheap monthly price and you're gonna get updates regularly according to the OOS dev for Poco.

Sorry buddy i wasn't very clear. I am using OOS and if i move to another device such as Mi 9 i will miss it so much.
I really wish to know the best way to understand my android system so i could tweak it to my likings.
Buy a pixel/OnePlus and you will have countless roms to play
