How to change audio bluetooth codecs in Android Nougat. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I have a Note 5 and want to listen to music via my Bose QC 35 II. As these headphones only support SBC, which is quite basic and the slightly better AAC codec, no Aptx streaming is possible. It is sad that the good sounding aptx is not available, so i wanted to get the best out of it and try to listen with the aac codec. Unfortunately, it is only possible to manually change the bluetooth codec in Android Oreo. Is there a way be it an additional app or similar actions to manipulate the bluetooth audio codec even in Android Nougat?
Thanks in advance*

Aptx support?

I recently bought a Ugreen CM109 bluetooth transmitter/receiver. This device has aptx codec support. In the Oreo rom on my Swift 2 + I cannot change the codec to Aptx, only AAC an SBC are working.
Is there APTX support on the Wileyfox phones, I also have a Swift but there you can't see what codec is used.
Testing the sound quality on the Ugreen with SBC and AAC makes AAC the winner. I used flac files as original sound. When using Spotify the sound quality degrades more with SBC then with AAC.
Note: Ugreen APTX is working on the S9 of my son.
Any thoughts?
you need to use the magisk module `android O aptx libraries`

Poco only streams bluetooth audio using SBC

I've got a Bose Quietcomfort 35 bluetooth headphone. It reportedly supports SBC and AAC codecs.
Pocophone reportedly supports both of those codecs, but it only streams using SBC.
Even if I go to developers options and manually choose AAC, this options doesn't stick. If I go to another app and come back, it's back to SBC.
Can anyone help me solving this? I'd like to stream using AAC.

Yup, same problem here. The only audio codec I can use is SBC. I'm using the Bluedio TM bluetooth 5.0 headphones.
In my case, I think the problem is with the Bose headphones
I can stream audio to my Yamaha home theater and use aptx
I solved the problem by renaming the headphones to have the name "Bose Quietcomfort 35" it it. E.g. : "Bose Quietcomfort 35 AA"

Bluetooth audio codecs

I'm interested in buying the Tab S6 and using it with a bluetooth DAC. Probably going to pair it up with a ES100 (MK2), Fiio BTR3 or Shanling UP2/4 DAC.
I was just wondering which bluetooth audio codecs are supported by the S6. Could someone enlighten me on this as Samsung doesn't list the specifics on this?
Thanks in advance.
I can say that LDAC is OK wih BTR3.
Today I used aptx low latency with my Fiio BT receiver.
Thanks for the input. So at least aptx ll and ldac are supported. That should be good enough for my needs.
Ok I got some time, lets go through every protocol with the BTR3 and the original control app:
I get the pink flashing APTX and light blue AAC accepted.
No luck with HWA, LDAC and APTX HD sadly, the FIIO app just states SBC instead. And SBC really sounds like crap.
Not sure about aptx LL, this always activates the regular APTX which then gets connected.
Hmm strange because civciv seems to be getting LDAC running with the BTR3.
LDAC is definitely supported. Just be sure to enable it in Fiio BTR3 submenu at system BT settings. The LED turns to white while listening to music.
Thanks for the update. Now to make up my mind about which bt dac to buy .

I have a FiiO BTA10 Bluetooth adapter for ATH-M50x headphones. It's listed as supporting AAC, SBC, aptX, and aptX LL.
On my Tab S6, when I go to Settings -> Developer Options -> Bluetooth Audio Coded, I see it's connected using aptX. I don't see an aptX LL option.
So my question is, how did you get aptX LL to work?

I was able to set it up in the FiiO Music App.

Pocophone f1 Bluetooth earphones

I bought a new pair of Bluetooth earphones today.
It's all good until I'm on a call and play any media .
If I'm on a call and I play a video or audio on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram ,etc there's no audio from the video. I tried to change the Bluetooth audio codec from developer setting but it always changes back to SBC or AAC on it's own .
And when I paired the earphone for the first time a message showed up saying "Current device support AAC codec . However, AAC may fail to play sound due to compatibility issue . Your device switched to SBC codec automatically. You can change this in the settings."
Would really appreciate some help please. Thank you.
Bro I had the same problem on MIUI 11, then I switched to Pixel Experiences and the AAC codec became supported
when I bought airpods I had miui 10 and the aac codec also worked there, but after switching to 11 miui, there was a problem with the sound quality and low volume in the headphones, and the problem was in the codec SBC
sorry for my english, Wrote through a translator

Question Terrible sound quality with bluetooth codecs other than SBC or LDAC

has anyone else noticed that bluetooth quality is terrible when the phone uses a bluetooth codec other than SBC or LDAC? I've witnessed it with my Grado headphones as they only have SBC or aptX HD and the phone picks aptX HD as it would be the higher quality codec but sounds bad for moments and then it's like you go from mono to stereo in that sound quality improves for a few seconds and then goes to trash again. This also happens with AAC on a friend's car. Forcing the phone to SBC in developer settings makes it sound good, but it is cumbersome to always have to go to dev settings to change from the codec it picked to SBC, few devices have LDAC, and anyways why ship the other codecs if you'll have them broken
I tried sbc on my wf xm4 and all sound good

The point is that SBC sounds good and so does LDAC but the rest sound like ****.
I tried AAC with my galaxy buds pro and the high frequencies get a little distorted, as if it had a lower volume
AAC on Google Home (to which it defaults as it only supports SBC and AAC) also exhibits this issue.
If you are on android 13 64.1.A.0.891 than flash it back to 64.0.A.11.31. I had the same issues my headsec was popping and crackling my car unit (sony MEX unit ) was losing connection noisy and stattering playback
