BAD NEWS: Elephone S8 *Pro* in July with Android 8.1 and improved hardware - Elephone S8 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other De

Looks a lot like our device but they've moved to a Snapdragon 660 chipset and will offer a 128Gb model. Also they've moved the fingerprint button to the side and replaced the rear camera with dual 13 Megapixel ones.
Details delivered with an *outrageous* Chinese accent at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U19reNEiE-c after the ugly A4 notch job. Really that design was braindead when Apple did it - no idea why anyone would copy it!
I say this is bad news because Elephone is unlikely to bother with an Oreo release for the non-pro when they've changed chipset already ...

And how is that bad news?
It looks nice, sadly no 3,5mm jack connection, so it's a no go for me.

Update ist out
https://bbs.elephone.hk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=14242&extra=page=1&mobile=2

Actually, no, the update isn't out. It's an "alternative" 7.1.1 ROM that according to the reviews on the elephone site breaks more than it fixes.
I'm one of the lucky ones whose phone functions well as it is. I remain vulnerable to a host of security flaws because Elephone have refused to publish the source for this phone, which means the phone can't be supported by the open developer community. And that's a worse problem than the fact that Elephone won't release the updates they promised. Shame.

You do not want to do business with this company. Price constantly changes. Go to their Facebook website and it will say $219. If you go to website, it says $269. If you go to an official store, it will be even more and their discount coupon won't be honored. The specs change, that 20 mp camera is now 13 mp, the release dates change. The US version was initially supposed to come out end of Jan.; now it won't be available till mid-April. I personally do not know what to expect from these folks. They don't answer emails or Skype calls and that is the only way you can get ahold of them. Do not waste your money or time with these people.
I got the 219$ from Gearbest after a while. (It's the elecode black version withnout power adaptoir)
Not sure about the shipping date. Mid April should be for all color variants and Lite version. The black P9000 should ship sooner for the people with elecode.
Gearbest says shipping on 20th Feb. let's see what happens.
If you're planning to buy any of the new phones Elephone is putting out (or most of the bigger small Chinese OEMs for that matter), prepare to wait at least 1 to 3 months for your phone.

zenfone 4 snapdragon 660 or 630? project treble works? more clarity

ok im going to buy a zenfone 4 with snap 660 due to higher performance and i want to know if the tpwr works on both sn 630 and 660 and also oreo 8.0
also any help to flash los 15 on this with project treble
and tpwr and root
any guide detailed would be appreciate
Asus has a bad off spec implementation of project treble. Don't buy this phone. It's not worth the greef that it is due to the fact it has no roms and no community support.
hope anyone build a lineage os... this is one best buy:
high quality stereo speakers, OIS and EIS cameras, good battery, best powerful mid range snapdragon 660 , 6gb ram lpddr4x, fast charge, very bright ips lcd 600 nits ( no BURN IN), 4k videos, 64gb and .... the headphone jack!!!!!
found on ebay only at 260$ new
Phone Spec and performance is good. I never seen worst support from Asus team . Too low support custom rom build this phone. Double think before going to buy.

FINALLY!!!
Been waiting long to get a new device, if they keep the base as good as the Axon 7 and just upgrade it it will be phenomenal.
Definitely saving up already for this. Hopefully it has a similar design to the Axon 7 with upgraded specs
Unfortunately, it seems to be following the "iPhone X" Notch trend and not a unique design as with the the axon 7. Nonetheless, the Axon 9 is almost here!
Guys, check out the Pocophone F1.
It's the perfect axon successor for me.
And at only 300$.
There are pics leaked around the internet now.
I just checked out the new leak, and I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed. I'll see what the regular model has to offer instead of the pro variant.

Unfortunately not.
Those teased images of the Axon 9 are pretty ugly to me. Poco F1 seems to be a very intersting successor for the Axon 7
If these images are real, the is going to be a major flop. Just a lazy copy of the iPhone X.
I guess i gonna skip this generation of phones and stick to my A7, because i want front facing stereo speakers and a at least 1440p Amolad display for Daydream. This is the Pixel the only phone that delivers, but it is way too expensive of course.

I fully agree with you.
IMO Axon 9 probably ain't gonna be bang/bucks as Poco F1. For me in this moment (before 30.08) Poco F1 Kevlar 8/256 all the way - hands down. Even without DAC, it still have stereo, jack, SD card. Axon 9 will be competitive if will have same components but with DAC and may with better screen than Poco F1.

Just on the front page of XDA labs
ZTE Axon 9 pro benchmark test revealed
https://www.phonearena.com/news/ZTE-Axon-9-Pro-specs-benchmark_id108096
No notch, no curved screen.
Big battery (4000mah+), dual front facing speakers, dual sim, mSD support, good camera, unlockable bootloader, tons of LTE bands support.
Sadly the closest thing is the ASUS ROG, I'm ok paying a premium for such specs (I'm not even a gamer).
I will not pay $500+ and end up with a phone that lacks any of my requirements.
I replaced the battery in my axon 7 a while ago, will probably replace it one more time a year from now or so. Then just buy mid ranger phones if this shi**y trend keeps happening with notches, curved screens, no headphone jack..etc
Can't say i like the notched phones , the 9 will no doubt be a good phone but I am more than happy with the 7 . I have never managed to put the 7 under enough strain that I would be unhappy with its performance so unless I end up breaking it I can't see me replacing it any time soon .2k screen is only good for VR ,my eyes can't see a difference between 1080 and 2k unless I get the VR on.
I have to say though Xiaomi does make some good phones , I got my wife the Redmi note 5 global with duel cameras and tall screen with no notch! and I am a little jealous . Its fast enough as well with the SD636 and audio is not bad . Metal build with none of this glass backed crap , what is it with these brands that think the more expensive the phone the more they remove ,IE no head phone jack no SD card fragile material and small battery .
I bought the Axon 7 the day it came out it was a no brainer at the price and quality. What a great buy I love this phone still today I take the case off once in a while just to feel the aluminum body, so sweet.
If these images and stats are correct for the Axon 9 I will not be buying this phone it doesn't have the appeal, it`s to bad they didn't stay with the same design as the 7, the design that we all rave about. Don`t screw with a good thing I say, too bad really.

2020: Best Smartphone for GCam?

Hi everyone, I'm sorry if I'm posting under the "Android General" section, but I think that my thread deserves a "general" discussion.
I've been following GCam's portings since the beginning and I've also used them on several devices like: Nokia 8, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 6.1 and LG G6 thanks to their Hardware Level Support set to Level3 (maximum). The question, now, is the following: in your opinion, which will be the best smartphone to run the upcoming ports from Google Pixel 4 new camera? I mean, it is no secret that the latest device from Google will include a triple-lens setup, so it's pretty obvious to think of a phone that has, at least, a wide and a tele-photo lens.
Thanks for moving my thread to the right section.
I'm scared I haven't explained pretty well what I was asking. I'll try that again.
Assuming that Google Pixel 4 will be having a triple-lens set up (tele, normal and wide), which will be the smartphone that will produce images as close as possibile to the Pixel after installing a Google Camera Port? It's pretty obvious that we have to look at a smartphone with a triple-lens set up too and with Camera 2 API enabled by default. On top of that it would also be ideal to have a Snapdragon 845/855/855+ at least and photographic sensor made by Sony (which very likely Google Pixel 4 is supposed to have).
Trying to do an analogy with Google Pixel 2, we can easily assume that one of the best smartphone to install a Camera Port was the Nokia 7 Plus, not only for having AndroidOne, Camera 2 API enabled but also for the same Sony IMX362 Exmor RS (sensor).
Up
Very interested also. I have a Pocophone, and runs gcam 6 quite well, but not perfect. From seeing it barely running on a Redmi Note 7, I assume it seem a top of the line processor and lots of RAM.
Which phone would be the best nowdays? K20?
Up, that would be nice to have a list of the top 10 Gcam smartphones 2020.

Question Should I go for the Nord 2?

I'm looking to buy a new phone. I'm looking at OnePlus, as I want something close to Android stock.
I'm not a power user, I just want a good daily driver that will last me a few years and has a good camera.
I initially thought about the Nord 8/128 for €300. Then, I noticed the 12/256 version is at 350, and thought it might be a better option due to extra RAM and space. appvalley tutuapp tweakbox
Then, I noticed that the Oneplus 8T is at 400 for the 8/128 version, and thought about going for that even thought it's slightly out of my initial budget... but all reviews point out that it has a crappy camera.
On the other hand, all reviews I've seen say that the Nord 2 has a good camera (or, at least, it's the better out of these 3). The 8/128 version is at 400, while the 12/256 is at 440.
So, in a pure Black Friday fashion, I went from planning to buy the Nord for 300 to aiming for the Nord 2 for 440. Am I aiming correctly, or is this a mistake I'm going to regret?
Nord 2 is much better than Nord. Period. You can do own research.
Compared to 8T the camera is better. Even get better score than OP 9

I cannot find better balanced phone than Nord 2. Reviewed OPPO, Motorola, Pixel, others OnePlus, Xiaomi, even Realme...
Few problems with being a OnePlus product and Mediatek SoC - so no easy to customize and custom ROM development. The update to Android 12 seems to bring Color OS to the phone. And seems a bit buggy, as per reports.
After almost 1 year of use rooted , very happy and stuck with latest OOS 11.3.
Edit: DN2103 12/256 bought for ~430€ on Amazon offer.
Why not the Nord 2T? The base model is only 20€ more expensive than the Nord 2 base model. I gifted it to a family member (not a power user) recently and they're very happy with it.
Also if software updates are important to you, you will get 1 more Android update on the Nord 2T vs the Nord 2.

I need a second phone so I looked few models. 2T was one of them. I didn't like the Android 12 + Color OS, which came out of the box. Reviewed the sub-forum for the model here.
I am concerned about Android security updates. Unfortunately with every update OP brings new, unpolished features, imho.
I like Oxygen OS. Not sure if Color OS introduced in Android 12 update and remove fastboot mode are better decisions, regarding end users ...
About the updates when feel outdated will switch to custom ROM. We will have mature ones in few months. There is some right now, too.
Cheers.
Why not a Samsung , realme , OPPO , Vivo phone ? Oneplus isn't now what it was once time ago ... Support is ZERO since they passed resposability to indians more then that MTK is a pain for rooting or else . Look to Android 13 , it is developped and beta relesead , we don't have a stable Android 12 , yet and there aren't any signs to receive it soon . Every new update release is a real mess and one after other they missed important characteristic being all so minimal .
In my opinion , don't buy !!!

OPPO and Realme are the same like OnePlus. Considering OPPO X3 Pro which is about 800€ now or less. Or X3 Neo ( a bit dated soc and screen ) but I am afraid that what happens with OnePlus will happens with two other brands. Realme GT2 an GT2 Pro are interesting, but as part of BBK we can expect the same. Buggy software and zero support as you stated.
About Samsung there are some not user friendly problems as I read, with the latest models, so discarded. Vivo 80 plus look great but it's price is 3x of my Nord 2.
What you really suggest to buy for 400-800€? Pixel 6? There are few review about it. Motorola Edge 30+ is now 600€. Maybe will go for it. And again, what are your suggestions? Thanks.
@ roldev : You're right , it's hard to pick one on global market phones today . We have a imense mid-range market , High-end are very expensive . What I noticed is all manufacturers have serious problems with software platforms like all specialist developpers are gone on other planets . Oppo , OnePlus , Xiaomi even Samsung released huge buggy updates beyond any understanding reasons . A few years ago there were updates tested and tested and tested and afterthat they released them by OTA or else . Today all seems to be a bunch of amateurs . It can't be right this way . Maybe all brands rushed to reveal a lot of new (but old) phones only for earn quick money to cover some market needs .

You are right. They focused on quantity and not on quality, to be more " competitive ". Investing in production and not in support.
My goal is to get a mid range phone with stable lineage os support. Hope this one will get such, despite of the Mediatek SoC.
Cheers.

Balanced device in a good price. Unfortunately, the OxygenOS updates are always very delayed. On the other hand, I have not experienced any important bug yet. For me, the ColorOS transition was successful. You can choose Nord 2T, it's slightly better.

1300 is rebranded 1200 with less performance.
The new firmware become more 'closed' to avoid need of support...
Two examples.
Sold my Nord 2 after two months. Far to many errors with it....
Assistant wont work from the lockscreen
Whatsapp voice message recording stops after 2 secs
Often charging only to 80% with optimized charging disabled
Bluetooth volume in car all over the place and not staying where I set it.
And also this "still on Android 11" update farce.....
Got a Xiaomi 11 T pro now which is much better value for money....
@terry_mccann maybe you got refurbished and 'tweaked' unit.
11 months with the Nord 2, here and did not face such problems, neither others.
Rock solid, stable, good performance and usability staying on oos 11 a_20.
Always update few months later to be sure that the bugs are fixed.
Despite de Mediatek SoC, there are few custom roms on active development for future. Lineage, Leos, Pixel experience, phh among others.
Even more, today bought the second Nord 2 on offer 350€ for 12/256 so I will clone 1:1 my 2 phones.
I choosed this model over OnePlus 9 pro for 660€ (12/256), Motorola Edge 30 pro (12/256) for 540€ or Motorola Edge 30 (8/128) for 360€....
The Nord 2 works well in my office with demanding workflow, in the fitness and the swimming pool, supporting some humidity even no oficial IP rating.
No bugs here. Rooted with magisk for 11 months. Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Yeah, their reason is that GC3 has better scratch resistance than GC5. So it's ok if you never drop your phone
Few bad decisions about this phone avoid it to be really good.
Really hope to have good 100% working custom ROM with easy update for the Nord 2. It's very popular and there's a lot projects...
