Flyme out of the market, stay in China in the rest of the world we don't want you. - Meizu Pro 5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Flyme wake up once and collaborate with Google once and update. This I am going to tell you already knew for a long time and take Flyme 7 with Nougat ("new Meizu 15"). As of this same month of April all the mobiles that want to have Google applications officially must use Android 8.0 Oreo or a higher version.
This decision has already said that Google would implement it but we have not seen it yet, it will prevent the use of its apps on non-certified devices, something that many Chinese brands do. You have to have a ROM and register our Chinese phones or in the future, we will not be able to use Google Play applications.
Google :good:

Meizu why don't you use Android Pure or Android One on all your phones ?. I like your phones, but it kills me that they aren't updated and that you have blocked the bootloader, give us freedom!

meizu is going to have a tragic end, in the past they make good phones.,..
mx4, mx4 pro, pro 5 and even the newest pro 6 plus are very good
but the rest of the models are just crap
crap camera, crap flyme, crap bugs, crap slow updates, crap android 6.1 in 2018
lol
dont buy meizu again, they dont care

Will Mi Pad ever update???

I am confused in buying this tablet ...I fear that kitkat will soon get outdated and i will not be able to use some apps... I have read many forums but nobody discussed of the update for pad to lollipop...Will it ever get updated ...and if not will I be able to use apps even after incompatibility with kitkat(if there is any way to get out of the problem)???
there's no way to get any decent rom out of xiaomi as they don't release the source code.
there's a few ported 5.0 roms put there but many things are not working yet and development is very slow (it's been months and there's no updates)
MIUI 7 is just released, but still in kk.
i don't think xiaomi will move to lollipop anytime soon.
save yourself the trouble, go get other tablets.
sad to hear that, i'm planning to buy 1, i want this this tab just because of it's powerful specs, high battery and size.
hope we can have at least lollipop update from Mi
After experiencing the lack of real updates on the Mi Pad, I've given up the purchase of many Mi devices.
For example, the Redmi Note 2 is a great device at a killer price (about $130 here) with near-flagship specs. But it is stuck on 5.0, so of course I'm not getting it because I know it'll be stuck down for a long time simply because MIUI never releases code, and never releases kernel even though they're supposed to.
If the kernel was released by Xiaomi you'd have killer roms on these devices in a single week.

There won't be one. Xiaomi only has 4 developers working on Mi Pad, part time. And the support has been terrible. As a MiPad owner, I'm horribly disappointed. Their support for their other phones are just as awful.
according to miui forum they need beta tester to apply global beta team for miui7 MM base for xiaomi device http://en.miui.com/thread-197475-1-1.html
lets pray sodamn hard mipad will get it too
Other then 4.4.4 updates as in just the apps here and there Mi Pad will NEVER be getting Android 5 nor Android 6. They the MODS that have no idea either since launch been saying "wait and see". If you search you find MIUI said about marshmellow just what would be getting updated and MI PAD is NOT there.
Yes, MIUI 8 for Mi Pad is available now, I think so
Miui 8 is available on the Chinese ROM only.
A general point is that in the fast moving world of mobile telephone sales, to stay profitable, you must come up with new and better models regularly. This means a limited software shelf life for old phones, where 'old' means over 2 years. Of course there won't be support for older models, most owners have bought other handsets by then, anyway. Of course xiaomi should release the source code though.
Well, I cannot say much about MI Pad support as I do not have that one, but pretty much ANY MI devices got MIUI 8 now. Yes, some are running on top of old Android, but it does not matter much for most users, and please tell me which company supports such old devices as Redmi 1s? What is offered with Huawei T1-A21L tablet still commonly offered across Europe by 3? Correct 4.4 with no plans to give any updates. So let us be more objective. Well, I agree, to get sources would be nice. BTW, di we get them for Nvidia own device?
Its time to let the source kod loose...why are they Holding this for them selfs ? If they are smart release the source kod and maybe just maybe we forget about that they didnt support us.... 1 thing is for sure, i will never ever buy a Xiaomi product again! And i hope you guys are with Me on this One, this Company is a joke !
Good news, the Kernel just released. Finally! https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource/tree/mocha-kk-oss/kernel

Im with you. the support for this tablet has been pathetic. Really regretted buying it. Hopefully now we have source code some good folk will make it usable again
Only custom. Not by xiaomi
it seems that its about nvidia... because mi 3 td also use kk in miui8.mi 2s use lolipop in miui6(5.0.2).also,cm12.1 is better then miui now.and i suggest you to flash cm12.1

Xiaomi Update Reputation

Hi, I was wondering for people who have own various Xiaomi phones. How are they on OS updates and Security updates?

They have weekly ROM updates for those who want to opt-in to the developer builds.
Stable builds are at their own discretion.
They're not amazing, but better than many.
Security updates is another story. They're a bit slow with them, though I think that varies per device (Redmi is budget so gets low priority).
Poco is a new brand trying to go global though, so hopefully it's better than other devices (not sure how security updates are on the flagship Mi series)
After one or two months most of the people will shift to some or the other custom rom. So there won't be any problem with the security updates and normal OS upgrades. My Mi3 was released with KitKat now it's running Android Pie

I assume he's asking about *Xiaomi* updates, the official ROM. Of course you can just install custom ROM's to get latest updates unofficially - but that makes the question moot.

Beta ROM updates are very fast both security n OS updates.
Stable updates within the same OS version are faster too. But OS upgrade need a bit waiting time as OS integrating to MIUI takes time.
Poco I expect faster updates due to treble support.
FYI:
Mix 2S of xiaomi already has Android 9 beta update.
very bad on stock roms stuck to old OS builds for mid range phones but on flagships very fast like blyat cyka rush b
I have used Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 3/4/5, Redmi 3S/prime and only Redmi 2 and Redmi Note 3 as my daily driver.
Those things taught the following:
Don't except updates from Xiaomi, not even security patches, although they have started providing patches on Note series but they are always late, so patches may arrive but not when you expect them.
You may not get the latest features even if you have the latest android version on your MIUI, why? because Xiaomi wants to provide same features to all the phones so that phones running on Kitkat will have the same feature as phone running on Oreo, this makes their software development easy, that means that the feature that you are using doesn't have native support and may be buggy and battery hogging.
There are two channels in MIUI - Beta Channel and StableChannel. Stable channel update is provided every 4-5 months or whenever they feel like or to fix a very important bug. Beta channel was previously bimonthly but I have heard that now, it's changed. Due to this, they don't fix bugs properly and instead introduce more bugs in the system
Their update size are generally 500MB-1.5GB but the fixes are things like: Calender icon changed, Button of some subforum in MIUI forum app changed, New Ringtones and every useless things, then in the end *Bug Fixes* but they don't mention which one. Out of every 10 beta updates only 1 or 2 updates are useful while others are just formality.
Now, note this, other companies give update to keep your phone running for longer amount of time. Xiaomi thinks different, they will wreck your device with every update they provide.
When I had Redmi Note 3, Beta channel was more better and more stable than the Stable channel, I am not lying go check the forums.
There is no major change in MIUI 7-9 the first major change I saw was MIUI6 - MIUI 7 after that all changes were just useless and they everytime just change notification shade style.
MIUI 10 - Notification shade now looks like a copy of iPhone and it's really very cheap act by Xiaomi, although their App switcher is somewhat cool.
Custom ROM:
Xiaomi phones works best with stock android and indeed has the best development support. But there are few catches.
Not all features work in custom ROM, you will have to leave one or two things if you want to use custom ROM.
The famous and best developers will not port VOLTE if their cell providers don't provide it
Camera (on Xiaomi phones) doesn't works well on custom ROMS.
Xiaomi does provide kernel but they don't provide a lot of proprietary codes and binaries that ensures smooth functioning of phones.
Don't buy the phone if you want to get updates unless it's Chinese, they do care about Chinese people unlike their global counterpart, or those people who develop global roms are arseheads.
All the above points can be confirmed on MIUI forums and XDA, if anyone says that even one of the point(s) is wrong, he is probably new in Xiaomi's world.
Redmi is the cheap line and they get late updates and bugs are not fixed properly. Mi is the expensive line of Xiaomi so they get proper update in first few months and after that they are also neglected. Since Poco is also a cheap but is a flagship, they will get good number of updates and fixes for few months then they will announce another phone and Poco will be neglected, and people who are saying that Poco has a different team may be wrong, I don't think Xioami will divide the team because internally it uses the same MIUI as others only launcher is different. For world Poco is a brand, for Xiaomi it's yet another phone.
Depends. My Mi3 got updated from kitkat to Marshmallow while my mi tab 1 was still stuck at kitkat with such a laggy interface until I flashed nougat roms with shiels blobs which made the tab as smooth as my oneplus 3. So MIUI sucks and they don't update android versions when they update their miui version. So buy a phone which has strong custom rom support. (Xiaomi models that are sold in India have strong dev support from what I have seen)
Thanks everyone for the info. That gives me a good idea.

Huh? You say it sucks but your Mi 3 got two major updates. How does that suck?
As for tablet, well it's a tablet. Android tablets were always poor selling and are now completely dead anyway (Chrome OS tablets are the future), can't compare phones to tablets.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro, where's EMUI 8.1, when is OK Google gonna work, landscape homescr

Hi Members, when are UK HM10pro phone and users going to get the EMUI 8.1 firmware Android update (if ever), why does OK Google still not work, with it still greyed out, why have they still not sorted out having the home screen in landscape view (not just the apps).
I think Huawei leave a previous model behind ,like all Chinese makers, forget about there users of a previous model, and concentrate on there upcoming phone (The Mate 20 Pro)
I have the latest OTA UK user updates, I even tried that Huawei beta program app (load of rubbish, only for Chinese models).
I think this will be my first, and last Huawei phone product, I think I'll stick with Samsung next time (updates always funelled through at some point with them)
If anyone has an idea on resolving these issues, please post (I've done may full phone resets, so don't bother with this suggestion thanks)
I've also emailed Huawei many times about all the above issues, with there finale help being an update will come (or in the next update), this was months ago now, so very unreliable support.
Thanks
Same here. I regret buying mate Pro. Waiting for one plus 6t n I will get rid of this 10 pro. Absolute bollocks

Looks like we´ll never get EMUI 8.1 in the west, most likely EMUI 9 on Pie soon, as Pie beta program is running and expected to end Nov-30 so far.
Regarding UK devices, if you have some experience try rebranding to EU, which is constantly updated(on October security patch today). I posted a little guide to go UK -> EU on UK thread, check it out if you´re interested: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77825017&postcount=470
Hi All, thanks for the input and comments, so what it really comes down to is ..."don't buy Huawei again" from the vibes that I'm getting here.
I wouldn't want to do any unlocking and rooting, just to have bug fixed update, which should be offered by the manufacturer as a 'duty bound product service' provider anyway, ..no, this is not acceptable.
My only course of action is not to buy there products again, as a consumer that's the power we all have, and we should invoke this stance buy the casual manner by which Huawei, or anyother manufacturer chooses to do so.
Our mistake as buyers is, that we allow these large profit mongering technology companies to continue.
I don't include the likes of Apple, or Samsung, or Sony, these companies have a strong and proven track record, and in the end, are a safer bet with standing by there technology, and supporting there products a little more.
Thanks you members who posted comments.
Regards
Since getting a Mate 10 in February it has received improved night mode camera, monthly security updates, GPU Turbo (never used this), and face unlock. I am happy with that. Much better than Mate 9 that did not get any new features until Oreo arrived in January, and only security updates every 3 or 4 months. 8.1 is out on Chinese Mate 10 models, and Pie is on the way bring it on
This is for C185 region
OK Google Update
OK Google still not working here in UK, any idea when Mate 10 Pro will get Android Pie?? Im still on Android security Patch 1 June 2018 with no updates available? Anyone got a newer security patch?
Model BLA-L09
EMUI 8.0.0
LG and Samsung are as crap as Huawei for updates.
Good luck ever seeing an update on a LG - the wife's G6 (which was mine before she had it) had no security updates while it ran Android 7, was updated to Oreo, and has had one security update since.

Will we get Android 11 or not. [MIUI based or Custom ROM based]

Yeah yeah. I know that we've seen the news about Poco and other 845 SoC based phone from Mi Series. Since the rollout of Android 11 on Pixel devices few days ago, there are many new features on Android 11 that I would like to add on Poco but since that Xiaomi promised us to get two major os updates (which are Android P and Android Q) it will most likely will stop on Android Q. But I have high hopes for Poco getting Android 11, MIUI based or not.
What are your thoughts about this?
Xiaomi has already cleared that poco f1 isn't getting android 11. It's not on their roadmap. We'll get miui 12 and maybe even 13 looking at the past experience. MIUI version are major upgrades for Xiaomi phones. Android versions like 9.0, 10.0 are practically just numbers to show off and that hardly adds any features on xiaomi phones.
I created petition on change.org for android 11.

You're on xda forums not miui. The one thing you should be worried about is device sources and community developer support not miui.

Yes I'm fully aware of that. But even though if I posted this on MIUI Forums, I still get the same answers from both Forums.
I highly doubt that someone can use blobs from MIUI 12 Android 10 to start from scratch to build a port to Android 11.
I forgot what device that was, I've experienced this coming back from 2018 when they used blobs from Android M to port and build Android N and that was stable enough they officially launched an official build.
Maybe my intuition was wrong or not, maybe someone from the Poco dev or even from the Poco community might wanna build and port Android 11 and might be one of the biggest breakthroughs of all time. Of course if it is stable enough to be a daily driver. I know that it is hard because of lack of blobs coming from Xiaomi's MIUI but maybe, someone will do it.

Yeah, Android 9 and 10 is kinda bummer because of lack of feature other than setting apps permissions which is great for me.
Android 11 has tons of new features like their improved privacy app features, the new smart device control quick settings which I really need because I have smart devices at home, improved notification and more.
I know these things can be treated on 3rd party apps but who wants to add more apps on their phone and maybe eat the battery on the background.

This is highly unlikely. Check piunikaweb they already mentioned there that a moderator from MIUI forums clarified that we'll get miui12, but unlikely to get Android 11. If you really want 11. Then wait for custom ROMS, but it may not be full MIUI Android 11 ports, rather from Pixel ports (one has already been released)

You misunderstand me. Even if they give android 11, the actual features don't arrive with the update. You will have to wait couple of years more to see native features of android 11 to implement into their MIUI ecosystem.
For example, custom DNS was introduced with Android 7.0 or 8.0 but it really came to xiaomi devices with MIUI 11 in 2020 year only.
On Xiaomi devices going from android 10 or 11 is as unsubstantial like changing security patch from august to september. Most of the people won't notice anything different.
We will 100% get Android 11 as a custom rom. As a matter of fact, it already is a thing. (Search xda) We won't get it officially as all non-pixel devices get only 2 android upgrades.
As far as XDA is there with active dev's updates offically from miui isn't a big deal for me ! Although our dev's are far more better than offical miui cause custom Rom are becoming far more Stabler than stock and in features . :fingers-crossed:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/development/rom-reloadedos-t4162237 11 is out for poco f1. Like i said, who needs xiaomis miui updates when you have xda. Long live the aftermarket software scene.

Vivo System and Security update Frequency??

Biggest drawback of Vivo mobile devices are its lack of system (Android and Funtouch bug fixes) and security updates OTA delivery compare to other brands (Realme, MI, Samsung,..)
Is there anything we can do to **PUSH** Vivo to make them accountable to provide better and faster software updates????
Due to this Vivo devices gets out dated too soon in market... And you end up looking for another brand device.
Unfortunately, Vivo does not realise this hampers there own brand value.
Thia was one of the biggest reason I moved away / refrain buying Huawei and specially Lenovo, LG, Motorola phones as all of them had very poor after sale software update Frequency..

I did some more research and seems Funtouch has improved a lot in terms of experience and ease of usage. Still require some quirks clean-up
However, X50 and X50 pro updates were very slow
So, if you buy Vivo's latest and greatest phone running on Funtouch or Android 11 there is no guarantee you will get Android 12 ( or on time). I couldn't find, on Vivo official site update release plan list anywhere.
Also what is the story of Origin OS ?? How Vivo's development team focusing on improving Funtouch or Origin OS??
