VDD Restriction - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Hello
i have problem with play games ( pubg and other )
my moto z automatically underclock when start game . After 3 min. is activated vdd restriction.
how disable it ?
i go root/sys/module/msm thermal/vdd restriction and i want changed value to disabled, but it not work.

I already know what the error is.
when I play the game for a minute, cpu clock fall to 1244 mhz ( big cpu ) but temperature protection is off.
Finally, I found out that there was an error in governor ( interactive )
i changed hispeed_freq to 2ghz but cpu fall to 1244
where is a problem ?

I also have this issue, maybe custom rom or oreo does not lag?

What is the value set to ? If it is set to 1 change the value to 0 and save. However this may or may not work and will require any root explorer and the value will be reset on reboot.
If you are rooted, I would suggest installing a custom kernel and use any kernel modifying app from the store to modify the value safely.
This restriction is a thermal restriction to avoid damage to your battery/screen/etc.. if your phone stays above 65°C for long time it will definitely damage many internal components in the long run(the CPU/GPU/RAM usually handles higher temps but surrounding components will deteriorate especially the battery)

you can delete the thermal-engine.conf on system/etc and disable in kernel auditor the core enable, VDD and soc temp in thermal panel, reboot the phone and try, btw i recommend you make a backup of this files, in my case are 3(griffin, sheridan and sheridan-retcn), and dont forget enable "apply on boot" in kernel auditor

moto z has poor thermal protection. It is activated at 40 ° C. I can fix it.
Delete this files ....
SYSTEM / ETC
thermal-engine.conf
thermal-engine-griffin.conf
thermal-engine-sheridan.conf
thermal-engine-sheridan-retcn.conf
and problem solved.

in what ROM are you?

RR 5.8.5
but most of them have the same structure.

Beside deleting thermal files , would it better to just bump temp limit, like here:
https://www.google.co.id/amp/s/foru...w-to-disable-thermal-throttling-t3636574/amp/
I hope someone can modify the files and share

[Q] disable cpu thermal throttling

i make a simple question:
how do i disable the thermal throttling policy?
i have some kind of failure hw sf on my phone and even with cpu temp below 30C my phone cut off 50% of cpu frequency.
no matter what it runs at 501 mhz even if i set performance governor, even with cpufreq max and min set to 1000 mhz.
but yes it can scale down below 501 mhz, it can run all the frequencies i give it.
so must be this policy activated somehow permanently while is set in kernel to activate when cpu temp is above 90C...
how can i turn off?
a module would be useful? i need a custom kernel? i can just disable with some commands? maybe in init?
none of the devs in this section knows what i'm talking about or none of the devs reads this section?

[GUIDE][U]HotRod and Maintenance for Xperia U

Hello everybody, today I present my guide or actually the procedure of modifications presently installed on my Xperia U.
1. Grab your Xperia U (I presume it is bootloader unlocked, rooted and installed Stock ICS based firmware)
2. Battery Supercharging-
a. Let your battery charge to 100%
b. Unplug charger and Reboot into CWM and wipe battery stats
c. Reboot into system and use phone as normal until battery is exhausted. (Now your battery is calibrated)
d. For maintenance of life of battery pack thereafter, let battery drain to not below 10%
e. Always charge battery short of 100% i.e. 85-95%
f. Once in a month, shut down your phone at 30-60% charge, remove your battery, and just leave it outside the phone for an hour or so.
Be compassionate, as Gandhiji had said
g. If you want to recalibrate your battery, follow steps 2a-2c. Recalibration for Li-poly is not that essential, since it has no memory but you can do it once a month or after flashing a new ROM.
h. Never leave your battery discharged for very long. Your Li-Poly battery will suffer a deep discharge.
3. CPU Control
a. Download BrainsKernel or Munjeni's Kernel
b. Install it using flashtool or fastboot (i presume you know how to do so)
c. Download your favourite CPU Control App (setCPU, noFrills CPU Control etc.)
I recommend CPU Tweaks as it gives you info on both cores at the same time and also has the time graph for when CPU is asleep (setCPU lacks that)
d. My recommended governor setup-
[Try to use a governor with inbuilt hotplug technology (hotplug means ability to control cores i.e. turn of second core when not required and turn it on when required) Eg. Hotplug, Lulzactive, PegasusQ, Hotplug etc.]
For normal use-
LulzactiveQ 800/200 MHz
For Music(Screen Off)
OndemandAX 800/200 MHz
For Gaming(Dead Trigger etc.)
Ondemand/Hotplug 1000/200 MHz
TIPS-
Remember that most governors with a screen off profile(Smartass, LulzactiveQ, OndemandAX) built in have a wake frequency (CPU immediately jumps to that frequency when screen on) is around 500-700 MHz, so try too keep your Max CPU limit at 800 MHz to prevent screen on delay. This is required as Xperia U has no 600 MHz intermediate CPU step, it has only 400 and 800. 400 is below the wake frequency so capping CPU at 400 MHz will cause lag during wakeup.
For me, using LulzactiveQ saves more power than SmartassV2 or Powersave. This is due to the fact that LulzactiveQ shuts off my second core much faster and much more dynamically than SmartassV2 of Powersave.
LulzactiveQ has a screen off profile of setting CPU speed to around 200-400 MHz while OndemandAX caps it at 500 MHz.
So OndemandAX is better for music as there is no tearing in playback when screen is turned off.
e. If you want to forcibly keep one core off (NOT RECOMMENDED. USE A HOTPLUGGING GOVERNOR INSTEAD) use XCore. It works on Xperia U and Xperia P. Check out the Play Store for further details.
4. RAM Management (Android does this on its own, usually. But you can help it)
a. NEVER use a Task Killer. Android kills tasks much more dynamically than your brain does
b. Delete all bloatware you do not need. This will prevent some background processes from being run and it will save some RAM.
c. Do not use a separate app for Facebook unless absolutely needed. (XDA App is fine )
d. That widget, sitting on your homescreen, which hasn't been touched for the past 1 week can be trashed.
5. GPS Superiority (You'll never use AGPS anymore)
a. Download an app called FasterGPS from the Play Store.(needs root)
b. Open the app and choose you continent and region. If your region isn't there, choose the closest region.
c. Get your ass out in the open and get a lock in less than a minute only on pure integrated GPS.
6. General Tweaks
a. Go to developer options in settings and set Animation Scale to 0.5x
b. Get a good statusbar mod (I recommend Xperia Tab n Grid Jelly Bean).
Why? So that you turn off the WiFi and BT and Packet Data when not required. I wouldn't do that earlier as I was too lazy to go all the way to settings to do so. Now I use the notification toggles and save some power
c. Turn OFF your phone and then charge it.
d. Use Lux Dash, an app to control your brightness. At night, set it to sub-zero to save power.
7. Physical Tips
a. Get a case for your phone. Incase you drop it, it will protect your phone.
b. I know you're tempted to take your phone to the pot and have fun but NO. People have lost phones like that.
c. Every week, clean your phone with a spectacle cloth.
d. Do not overstress your phone, or else you risk your hardware. I know they are designed to face all this but as Gandhiji said, compassion.
Hope these tips help you and your phone

Kernel problems??

Hello everyone, I need an explanation. I have unlocked bootloader, twrp, root and kernel adiutor (I have not changed any settings). Sometimes I realize that in the "thermal" section of adiutor kernels, where there is normally only a check on cores, vdd restrictions along with cores are also automatically activated, blocking the minimum frequencies of all the cores (from 652 passes to 1689 ). I notice this because, in addition to having a phone ultra-reactive (ahaah and not bad) I get a little warmer than usual. Wary of this open kernel adiutor and disable vdd restriction and everything returns to normal. Is this normal? Is it the kernel that modifies its settings under particular conditions or not? Thank you

MIUI 9 & 10 - VDD restriction turns on by itself and set the min. CPU freq. at 1.6GHz

MIUI 9 & 10 - VDD restriction turns on by itself and set the min. CPU freq. at 1.6GHz
Hi All,
May someone shed the light and tell me how come that even though I disable CPU VDD restriction (and it's disabled by default..) it just turns on "by itself"? If I change some governor parameter I observed that for instance I disconnect the charger then VDD restriction is turned on immediately and increased the min. CPU to 1.6GHz. I don't even understand this behavior anyway: VDD restriction's action (when it's turned on) should kick in when the CPU reaches a certain temperature (70°C afaik) and should "turn off" when temperature goes below a threashold (69°C afaik) and I thought that when it kicks in it throttles the CPU freq. so decreases the max and not increasing(?) the min(?), this is totally not what I expected from the VDD restriction kernel function..
I already tried to:
- disable perfd
- disable perfd then rewrite /data/system/perfd/default_values and restart perfd
- rename/delete /system/bin/perfd
..but the system still does the above explained behavior.
I'm out of ideas at the moment. Can someone point me to the right direction?
Everything is "stock vanilla" MIUI ROM with Magisk, tried a lot of MIUI ROMs actually (several ROM versions from global stable and developer, chinese stable and developer and forks like Xiaomi.EU, Mi-Globe..) and - at least on my phone - all ROMs were doing this..
Thank you!
Bump - anyone?

[MAGISK] Thermal Throttling mod for Nokia 8 running Pie (PUBG FIX)

MAGISK 15+ ANDROID 9/8(PIE/OREO) NOKIA 8 ONLY
Warning: These configs work fine for me , i had historically pushed alot of devices to its limits by disabling their thermal restrictions most of the devices have built in kernel logic to trigger a shutdown when pushed too hard but if your device explodes or anything bad happens you will be responsible for it so be cautious before using this.
(This module changes only rom based throttling not the kernel one)
1. What this mod does?
It does not removes thermal throttling instead retard it
No throttling till Battery reaches 50°C
No cpu throttling till it reaches 53°C
No cpu Hotplug till it reaches 64°C
No gpu Throttling till it reaches 80°C
2. Why i made this?
Cuz i love playing with my fone while its charging and stock thermals are too aggressive for my taste.
3. How to use it
Just install the module from Magisk and reboot vice-versa for disabling/removal.
4. How to customize it?
you can also customize it by unzipping the attached zip and editing the folllowing file, re-zip and repeat step 3
\system\vendor\etc\thermal-engine-cobalt.conf
to keep it simple
thresholds values are at which throttling starts i.e action
thresholds_clr at which it stops (reverts the taken action)
if you have any queries or found some mistake just comment i will update the post...

Not possible on this fone without hassle afaik, the way i do it past android 6 is by using screen mirroring + aux cable(for audio) on pc/laptop.
Things i currently use
Scrcpy for screen mirroring
3.5mm jack Aux cable to Line in(pc) for stereo audio
open broadcast software for recording/streaming
to listen to the audio i simply enable playback of line in input and use headphones coming from pc
Is there any performance increase that's proven on paper? My question is derivative of a fact that I've never really encountered performance/FPS losses in both gaming and apps under heavy load. PUBG Mobile (even tho I only played it's early stages) did work just fine with stable 30 frames.

yes if your ambient temperatures are high enough to trigger throttling difference is quite a lot, you can test it yourself using this app
