[MAGISK] Thermal Throttling mod for Nokia 8 running Pie (PUBG FIX) - Nokia 8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

MAGISK 15+ ANDROID 9/8(PIE/OREO) NOKIA 8 ONLY
Warning: These configs work fine for me , i had historically pushed alot of devices to its limits by disabling their thermal restrictions most of the devices have built in kernel logic to trigger a shutdown when pushed too hard but if your device explodes or anything bad happens you will be responsible for it so be cautious before using this.
(This module changes only rom based throttling not the kernel one)
1. What this mod does?
It does not removes thermal throttling instead retard it
No throttling till Battery reaches 50°C
No cpu throttling till it reaches 53°C
No cpu Hotplug till it reaches 64°C
No gpu Throttling till it reaches 80°C
2. Why i made this?
Cuz i love playing with my fone while its charging and stock thermals are too aggressive for my taste.
3. How to use it
Just install the module from Magisk and reboot vice-versa for disabling/removal.
4. How to customize it?
you can also customize it by unzipping the attached zip and editing the folllowing file, re-zip and repeat step 3
\system\vendor\etc\thermal-engine-cobalt.conf
to keep it simple
thresholds values are at which throttling starts i.e action
thresholds_clr at which it stops (reverts the taken action)
if you have any queries or found some mistake just comment i will update the post...

Not possible on this fone without hassle afaik, the way i do it past android 6 is by using screen mirroring + aux cable(for audio) on pc/laptop.
Things i currently use
Scrcpy for screen mirroring
3.5mm jack Aux cable to Line in(pc) for stereo audio
open broadcast software for recording/streaming
to listen to the audio i simply enable playback of line in input and use headphones coming from pc

Is there any performance increase that's proven on paper? My question is derivative of a fact that I've never really encountered performance/FPS losses in both gaming and apps under heavy load. PUBG Mobile (even tho I only played it's early stages) did work just fine with stable 30 frames.

yes if your ambient temperatures are high enough to trigger throttling difference is quite a lot, you can test it yourself using this app

{tips} [save battery] {all phones}

Hi all
Here are a few tips i would like to share wid u all. These tips will help u extract the maximum juice out of your xperias
Starting wid the simplest one
TIP NO 1 - ENABLE EXTENDED STANDBY MODE IN POWER SETTINGS
If u are on stock ics rom , go to settings, power management and check extended standby mode.
yes do it, this doesn't affects battery drain but enhance the standby time .
This helps to switch off wifi and data traffic when the phone screen is switched off for sometime.
Basic but most useful.
When this is enabled , u dun need apps like Juice defender or DS battery saver
TIP NO. 2 - DO NOT USE ANY APP KILLERS OR TASK MANAGERS
Most of us use task manager to kill apps running the background regularly.
But we may notice that most of the apps killed by task managers get restarted by themselves.
Thus all these app killers continue to drain battery and do the same thing all around,
These app killers will also make your phone laggy to some extent because of poor ram management
TIP NO. 3 - UNDERCLOCK
If u use your xperia only for basic purposes such as messaging and calls then there is no problem in underclocking.
800Mhz would be fine wid minimum or no performance glitches.
This not only relives strain on cpu but saves battery.
I myself have underclocked this and belive me 800mhz does not affects the performace of most of the games(if u play)
TIP NO. 4 - USE GOVERNORS
There is no defination for governors but u can say these are the engines that control the cpu frequency time to time
There are several governors present most commonly used being ondemandx , conservative and powersave.
1: OnDemand Governor:
This governor has a hair trigger for boosting clockspeed to the maximum speed set by the user. If the CPU load placed by the user abates, the OnDemand governor will slowly step back down through the kernel's frequency steppings until it settles at the lowest possible frequency, or the user executes another task to demand a ramp.
2: Performance Governor:
This locks the phone's CPU at maximum frequency. While this may sound like an ugly idea, there is growing evidence to suggest that running a phone at its maximum frequency at all times will allow a faster race-to-idle.
3: Powersave Governor:
The opposite of the Performance governor, the Powersave governor locks the CPU frequency at the lowest frequency set by the user.
4: Conservative:
A slower Ondemand which scales up slowly to save battery. The conservative governor is based on the ondemand governor. It functions like the Ondemand governor by dynamically adjusting frequencies based on processor utilization. However, the conservative governor increases and decreases CPU speed more gradually.
go to this page to know more about governors
http://androidforums.com/xperia-mini-all-things-root/513426-android-cpu-governors-explained.html
For setting up governors (if installed) and underclocking use a free app like Antutu Cpu Master (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antutu.CpuMasterFree&hl=en )
here are the governors for Xperia U only
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934749&highlight=governor ( thanks to AnDyX )
TIP NO. 5 - DON'T INSTALL APPS UNNECESSARILY
This does not needs an explanation. Just remember that when apps run in background , they consume battery. More the number of unnecessary apps running, the more faster is the battery drain.
Keep only those apps which u use frequently and if u are a rooted user, delete all bloatwares, FREEZE GMAPS AND TIMESCAPE IF U DUN USE IT.
TIP NO. 6 - CHOOSE NETWORK MODE AS PER YOUR NEED
Whether you are using WCDMA or GSM network or WCDMA/GSM , choose it as per your need.
If u are on the internet only for surfing then use GSM mode and switch to WCDMA only if u need to download.
This as per my usage has the greatest impact on battery life.
to select network mode , go to settings>more>mobile networks>network mode
While surfing only (xda ) i use opera mini app wid GSM mode enabled and its very fast .
TIP NO. 7 -SHUTDOWN ONE OF THE CORES USING AN APP "XCORE"
An app by xda member blievenhack can switch one of the 2 cores off thus saving battery
Thanks to blievanhack for app and jonathan for letting me know
Here is the post link for xperia xcore
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057314
P.S. - charging your battery only when it is about to get exhausted belongs to old school now. Charge whenever u can charge
NONE OF THESE TIPS REQUIRES SOMETHING SPECIAL OR TECHNICAL TRY THEM AND U WILL DEFINATELY FEEL THE DIFFERENCE
I hope you like my guide, its not copy pasted , its not stolen from someone, its purely my experience.
If u find any discrepancy plz let me know.
Feel free to share your tips here and discuss your experience
Set refresh-time of app (e.g weather and news apps) to an reasonable value.
It does not make sence to update a weather widget every 5 minutes
You could also use xcore xperia. Most of the time you don't need that second core.

I haven't noticed any drawback aside from a slight lag in cpu hungry apps. Network continues to work just fine on my p.
a good guide for all..........
Settings>Devs Options>BG process limit>2 or 3
This will use less ram and hopefully increase battery
thanks for the guide. .
Extended Standby is good but breaks apps like Cerberus or any other internet based tracking system.
Re: {tips} [save battery] {all xperias}
I think our nxt series already has d hotplugging logic so wats d point in using xcore..
I dont intend to demotivate d developer bt I didnt experience any noticable change in battery wid xcore..
And imo if we jst use a suitable governor we can save significant amount of battery..
Plz correct me if Im wrong anywhere Im still a newbie here..

Hi guys! Used to have my phone had problems with the transition into deep sleep mode. I often tune but it often does not work, or bring a temporary result. I will advise you to use the program Deep Sleep Battery Saver Pro. When I started using this program , I felt the result. Phone began to sleep well. Saving battery was palpable.
Well, should be interesting to tell us what improvement you made with those settings.

Lollipop Stock CPU min stuck @ 787MHz? WTF?

So I installed the Lollipop stock rom via the dload folder in the official manner by rebooting and holding vol up + power. Rom installed just fine and everything works but the CPU frequencies are driving me up the wall. This rom/kernel seems to ignore SetCpu's or No Frill Cpu's settings.
Here is what I did and what I see:
1) Yes I've commented out the build.prop entry where it says min=787 and rebooted several times.
2) On boot up I see via Setp CPU min frequency is 787. Draging the min value to any value below 787 doesn't work.
3) Sometimes after turning on the device I'll go into SetCpu and see min set to 300. However several times in the day I'll check out of paranoia and it's back to 787.
4) I've used both Set Cpu and No frils cpu app and set "Set on boot" and that does nothing. I'll often catch the min value floating @ 787Mhz. This is also confirmed by checking time in state and even when turning off the screen, I'll see the 787 usage jump but not the 300 or 384 speeds.
5) Sometimes I see really whacky ****. Like I had Set Cpu open, and the Max was changing from 1593, to 1497, to 1400, to 1100 and then back to 1497.
6) Powersaving is set to normal, not smart, or ultra.
Has anyone gotten the kernel to follow the min/max settings for CPU freq? Anyone have a solution?
Have you checked to see if CPU hotplugging is turned on? If it is then it will make changing the min almost impossible.

Is this a tool that fixes this?
So many people have upgraded to Lollipop and yet how is it that I'm the only one bringing up this 787 issue?

This is from the program kernel adiutor program you can find here( http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-kernel-adiutor-t2986129) If you turn hotplugging off you might have better luck setting the min. It will be listed as CPU hotplug in the menu.

kernel auditor did not help, even after two reboots. i still see min stuck at 787. Is this issue perhaps solved in the lollipop pacman rom?
CM drops to 300.. Turn off mpdecision.
OK so I definitely turned off mp decision both via the app and by renaming /system/bin/mpdecision --> /system/bin/mpdecision-lolololol
Rebooted and checked setcpu and my min is still stuck at 787. Granted I check in a few times a day and sometimes I catch the min at 300 yet sometimes I catch it at 787. What else am I missing?

Is it a stable rom? How many reboots do you get, wifi issues, force closes etc? I'm not a fan of rom's not based off of stock rom, because of instability. I left those behind with the Note 1, Motorola Atrix.

Yes it might be a stable version of CM but is it stable on the Mate 2. I know the difference between stable and nightly.
Its fine. Read the cm forum thread.

No probably like most of the rest he wants to be spoon fed, I was able to determine what you meant in your first post about mp desicsion and determine the appropriate course of action that I wanted to take and also referenced your thread about battery life.
Make a backup, load the rom ,and test drive it like we all do.
God I love Google NO /s
I found a governor that replaces mpdecision. Going to add it to a build. Last two attempts I had issues. Nothing related to governor though. Soon. Pilled a nub mistake with boot.IMG. lol three year old distracting me. So all good. Should help tremendously with cpu. A couple of builds floating around with another governor that does help quite a bit.

So the general consensus is that Lolipop stock rom cannot have the 787min freq fixed and the solution is to switch rom's altogether? Like I said I disabled mpdecision and even renamed the binary and commented out the entry in build.prop. What else is left?
Isn't that easy. It will always default of there isn't something to takes its place.

what is easy? You mean to tell me stock lollipop will default to 787 until what takes it's place? No one knows?
It's stock ROM. If you want to make changes flash a ROM. Huawei isn't going to give you that customization.
Noone has made a custom kernel for it. Obviously since it has emui.
Is 787 hardcoded somewhere in this rom that it's usually defaulted to?

Cm11 draining the battery fast Very

Good Night, installed the rom 11 cm in Winduos and is perfect except for the extremely fast drainage of the battery , I changed the performace profile lowered the frequency of the CPU and nothing . I emphasize that when switching between the CPU manager, and switch to the "Power saving " or other , he returns to the manager " SMARTASSH3 " minutes later by default. Can anyone help me with this problem ? Already I tried some solutions and so far nothing , and it is no exaggeration to ta battery running out too fast ..
I managed to get smartassv2 (setting at startup) with maximum frequency 1008 mhz, but the battery is draining quickly too, and sometimes the phone restarts

Then decrease cpu freq to 1008 nd use ondemandx and sioplus or cfq and disable location nd location permission from privacy guard and disable all animation . now u ll experience better battery life
ondemand=ok, but i/o sioplus not change ( in device>deadline)
cosmic rom I had installed before consumes less battery. its load approx. 24 hours (maybe a little more). Now I need turn off wi-fi to use more time Cm11. kernel updates have failed to solve the problem. But this device has never had good battery, too.

VDD Restriction

Hello
i have problem with play games ( pubg and other )
my moto z automatically underclock when start game . After 3 min. is activated vdd restriction.
how disable it ?
i go root/sys/module/msm thermal/vdd restriction and i want changed value to disabled, but it not work.
I already know what the error is.
when I play the game for a minute, cpu clock fall to 1244 mhz ( big cpu ) but temperature protection is off.
Finally, I found out that there was an error in governor ( interactive )
i changed hispeed_freq to 2ghz but cpu fall to 1244
where is a problem ?
I also have this issue, maybe custom rom or oreo does not lag?
What is the value set to ? If it is set to 1 change the value to 0 and save. However this may or may not work and will require any root explorer and the value will be reset on reboot.
If you are rooted, I would suggest installing a custom kernel and use any kernel modifying app from the store to modify the value safely.
This restriction is a thermal restriction to avoid damage to your battery/screen/etc.. if your phone stays above 65°C for long time it will definitely damage many internal components in the long run(the CPU/GPU/RAM usually handles higher temps but surrounding components will deteriorate especially the battery)
you can delete the thermal-engine.conf on system/etc and disable in kernel auditor the core enable, VDD and soc temp in thermal panel, reboot the phone and try, btw i recommend you make a backup of this files, in my case are 3(griffin, sheridan and sheridan-retcn), and dont forget enable "apply on boot" in kernel auditor
moto z has poor thermal protection. It is activated at 40 ° C. I can fix it.
Delete this files ....
SYSTEM / ETC
thermal-engine.conf
thermal-engine-griffin.conf
thermal-engine-sheridan.conf
thermal-engine-sheridan-retcn.conf
and problem solved.
in what ROM are you?
RR 5.8.5
but most of them have the same structure.
Beside deleting thermal files , would it better to just bump temp limit, like here:
https://www.google.co.id/amp/s/foru...w-to-disable-thermal-throttling-t3636574/amp/
I hope someone can modify the files and share

Guide to making the LG G6 faster in gaming! (No root).

Good morning, afternoon or evening, this will depend on the moment you are reading this.
About two months ago I get a LG G6 H870i and my previous device was a Zuk Z2, I really was disappointed with the LG G6 in performance, my Zuk was a monster in that and he looks like an ant ...
So, looking for solutions, I tried a lot of things and after a long study, I created this guide on how to increase LG G6 performance in games, I'll put the steps here and now, I hope you guys can enjoy a nice gaming experience after this guide. Note: This was tested in the mobile game PUBG and worked.
Step 1: Enable developer options.
(For this, go to> Phone> Software Information> Assembly Number. Click this at least 5 times quickly, this will enable developer access.)
Step 2: In the developer options, go to> Restrict background processes and select three processes.
Step 3: Select the option> Increase 4x MSAA.
Step 4: Select the option> Force GPU rendering.
Step 5: Go to the "Smallest Width" option and enter 444.
Step 6: Scale during animation 0.5x
Step 7: Animation transition scale 0.5x
Step 8: Window animation scale> Off.
This is the end of this guide, some of these settings I used to gain more fluidity and greater battery savings, they are good for games too eventually.
I can not forget to say that when your handset is turned off or unplugged and you turn it back on, the background process option will return to the factory default, so you should re-enable it when you play or want better device performance.
This is 100% safe and all the options in this guide can be returned to your default. I hope this helps you and had fun playing.
Editing: I am providing a video link with a game test with the settings in this guide.
Link: https://youtu.be/QHHASgQwXB4
well, limit background apps is the thing here...
adjust the dpi to 444 is like make you eyes cry almost for so small things will be, and this didnt improve nothing - belive me. i have mine set to 369 and its best dpi you can set for this device.
and, since you disable window animation, why dont disable all other scale animations and animation transitions?! its all good to be disabled and this will improve overall speed when navigate all around menus and things.
other than that Force GPU rendering and increase 4X MSAA is ok to turn on for gaming, but better disable Force GPU when you want better battery life since this will push GPU clock at max.

Well I like DPI 444, but this should work on other DPI numbers, I provide this number in my guidebook, because I did not want anyone trying, had different experiences from me, so I put everything exactly the way I use it.
The window animations are a bit strange if you disable them all, I'd rather leave at least, although it's just visual, I prefer them that way.
I got 7h of screen and 9h even with the GPU configured so, so I do not think consumption is all this...
But thanks for your comment!
I'm uploading a test video to YouTube with these settings in this guide.
Thanks for posting this. I have tried different settings myself. I did find that the device performs much better when the display width is close to screen DPI, with small to large font size.
Do check the boot animations and it's fluidity when you change the DPI of the screen and update if you can.
Cheers.
Step 3: Select the option> Increase 4x MSAA.
Why would this improve performance?
If anything it should do the opposite because it's supersampling

I got 7h of screen and 9h even with the GPU configured so, so I do not think consumption is all this...
But thanks for your comment!
I'm uploading a test video to YouTube with these settings in this guide.

well, i must say i hae pretty much same SoT as you, with all animations off and MSAA disable/unchecked and Force GPU disabled too, must say Melina Kernel and a pretty good debloat (for people who are rooted) make this phone a huge deal.
Having mine since May last year and my first's SoT are around 6 and half to 8 hours, now with little changes here and there (debloat, build.prop changes, edit some xml to enable google services going doze too and melina kernel) well, have almost everyday 7 to 8.
well, i dont gaming, i just play Rendo 3D, but even with 50% brightness all time i can go like 3h Rendo, 2h Youtube and 2 hours of browse web and some 30/40 video call on whatsapp.
dont forgot to charge the phone when you have 20 to 30% and let it go out of battery once or twice per month, this will increase the life span of it.
