Should we buy a Huawei which is getting launched tomorrow onwards ? - A BIG NO ! - Honor View 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Huawei is stopping users to unlock bootloaders for the devices going to be launched after today.
For the devices which are there, get it in another 2 months, else the same applies to it if you wanted to unlock post 60 days from today.
I don't think there is any point in thinking to buy a device from Huawei in future. They won't believe that this act will actually hamper their market.
For Now, Yes you can go ahead and unlock it from here : https://emui.huawei.com/en/unlock_detail
You can see the attachment for the notice.

If I obtain a code for my bootloader, can I use it whenever I want or it has an expiration date?

If I generate the code(and not use it), is my warranty still valid?

Yes it will be valid until you see the message " Your device is unsafe or so" while booting, and that will only appear if you use cmd and the unlock command to unlock bootloader. So no issues in getting it handy.

i really had to read the announcement 4 or 5 times in shock and disbelief lol.
- A phone company has gone from zero to one of the best by 1) open source 2) unlocked bootloader as standard
- Another company with a diminishing reputation is not open source and has seen current massive issues regarding unlocking bootloader requests (root cause = not being unlocked as standard), so this company puts final nail in coffin by permanently removing bootloader unlock, thus creating the complete opposite of what has been globally defined as the sucessful model.
very funny ?

I can't even get a firmware update

So if they was really security minded, they would push timely ota updates
Nothing more than a tech dump

Also i want to do whatever i want with my PAIED [email protected]%#ng phone, unlock it, fry it, brick it, brake it. Because, do you know dear HUAWEI? I PAIED FOR IT, YOU DIDN'T GIVE IT TO ME FREE. no support for bootloader unlocker

Asus support just told me that they do not provide support for the unlocker. I've been trying to unlock this thing for weeks now, finally decided I'd call Asus about my "an unknown error occurred, possibly a network connection issue" error message and the guy on the phone just told me they can't help me because that utility will void my warranty. I pointed out that warranty is not yet void and in my opinion they still have an obligation to help, but they were impervious to my logic.

"Impervious to my logic" lol sounds like something I would say. Unfortunately MOST people are impervious to logic these days.

Hm,
I can understand ASUS in that way. This example came into my mind:
you want to break into a house and couldn't manage that due to the lock pick.
So you ask a policeman: "Please show me how to use this lock pick".
He would say: "No, that's criminal". And you say:"It's not criminal". I didn't break in by now".
It's not exactly the same some somehow similar
They release their own tool, but do not support it.
This doesnt make any sense to me, since device is still locked. Another one to add to the list.

This analogy might make sense if it was my house, and the police man not only sold me the house without telling me there were no keys, but handed me the lockpicking tools when I complained.
Use someone elses connection, sounds like its a firewall/port issue .. either that or open up all your ports for the TFP in your router (DMZ)
I've tried on at least 4 networks

Hm, I think the police was quite fair in THIS case :
"Before you download, install, and use the Unlock Device App you acknowledge and assume complete risk to the quality and performance of this App, including but not limited to the following: once you activate the App you will not be able to recover your ASUS product (“Original Product”) back to original locked conditions..." (from the Asus site)

I'm not sure what the relevance of your quote is. It mentions before I use it, which I can't because it doesn't work, and then cautions that I can't relock my boot loader, which is irrelevant because I can't, because it doesn't work.

I think that's the only way this analogy makes even a bit of sense. I have the same problem and I'm also trying to contact ASUS support.
We need SBK (since, afaik, we already have access to an updated version of nvflash which works with t3) as one way to solve these cases. Probably. Since Asus doesn't seem to be doing anything else to solve it either.

Another G4 or a G5?

Ok.. Hopefully I can get some good advice here!
Basically, my G4 crashed and burned recently - unrecoverable boot loop. LG took it away for repair under warranty but sent it back unfixed - because it was rooted. I personally think they shouldn't get away with violating my consumer rights in this way - they admitted a hardware fault after all (and my device was one of the affected serial numbers)..
Anyway.. Thank F**k for Amazon, who are refunding my phone.. I can't praise them enough. :good::good:
I wasn't planning on getting another LG phone (after they screwed me over) but they are just so damn good.
So. cutting to the chase....
If you were buying another phone today. Would it be an LG G4 or G5 (Or something else Android) with the following requirements..
- It must be easily rootable...
- It must not suffer from boot loops.. (G4's are fixed since 508, I believe, and the new ones have serials way above that)..
- edit.. Price.. Ideally not more than about £400. Unless you've a very good reason and a warranty that won't expire if I root it..
Thanks for your time!!
#H
Well, if it's a rootable version (like H850) then of course G5.. not a discussion.
But he mentioned the warranty. If you root H850 you most likely lose it. I'm about to take my G5 for GPS warranty repair. Mine is rooted, I will report what they told me.
Wysłane z mojego LG-H850 przy użyciu Tapatalka
For a super fast, stock experience you'd do well to find something better than the One Plus 3. However, the camera really isn't that great, so even though I loved the phone, I came to the lg g5, of which I adore.
I used to have a g4 and not much can come close to the g4 or g5 in pro mode.
Thanks guys.. So looks like the G5..
Which root method would you recommend?
I guess I don't mind losing the warranty as long as the phone doesn't have any issues.. Do they suffer from boot loops as well?

remove Retail Demo Mate 10 Pro

Hello Guys. I just purchased my Mate 10 Pro but it's running on retail Demo.
I tried to remove the app by disabling the retail demo app as administrator and Unistall it but it failed.
I also tried installing the firmware which I got from getdroidtips. After creating the dload folder in the internal storage I moved the update.zip to it and shut down my phone. I pressed both volume buttons and the power button. It started flashing the firmware but after 5% it tells me that it failed.
Any other ideas guys?
You need to rebrand the phone. Your phone is demo branding, so without rebranding it will remain demo.
See this thread:

Do you have any other solution that isn't connected with paying? Not everyone has PayPal and this is like advertising to force you to pay.

There is only one solution for rebranding the Mate 10 at this time, and it isn't free. The only other thing I can think of would be getting the bootloader unlock code, rooting the phone, and trying to remove/disable anything demo-related, but you'd end up with a severely butchered phone. How did you end up buying a demo model anyway?

I bought it over the internet cheap. Of course I was suspicious but when I got the phone it came out that it was a real one. Only the demo software makes it unusable.
I need to open an PayPal account in order to do that.
I have some questions. How do I get the bootloader code?
I don't use Windows but Mac. Do I need windows 7 at all because my phone is recognized by ADB on Mac and I can give every command from there too.
After I open up my bootloader will it be again locked after the procedure? And the last one is do I receive OTA/security Uptades when I am done with everything?
Sorry for such many questions and thank you in advance for your help.

Where did you buy it? For how much? Let me know how to get a cheap one too! I need more test devices. I don't care if it's demo branding.
You'll need something like Parallels/VMWare on your Mac to install Windows to do the procedure.
You can get the bootloader code from Huawei, but I think they're unlikely to let you get it for demo units.
If you check the thread linked to above, you can find the tool/method which doesn't require you to unlock your bootloader, in case you're not able to get the code. But it will require Windows, and it's not exactly easy. Still, you only need to do it once. Afterwards, yes, you can get OTA updates, but they might not be pushed out very quickly by Huawei, based on experience with the Mate 9 series.
Anyway, if you're going to be using FunkyHuawei, it's probably best to continue the conversation in the FunkyHuawei support thread.

Change ROM from demo version

Hello,
So i bought a few weeks ago a Honor 10 for half the price because it's on demo mode, i can't use password/fingerprint and such, can't register contact they auto-delete, etc...
I tried everything like going in developper mode and disable demo etc... but still nothing.
I need to change ROM to use it normally, but the bootloader is locked. I tried to use the XDA thread to get a code but for now i didn't recieve one, is there anything i can do to change ROM without unlock BL ? Or any unofficial way to unlock BL ? Thanks

Honor 8X Max Google Play Store issue

Just got my new Honor 8X Max in the mail and it's the chinese version (I'm living in Europe). The model number is ARE-AL00. I got the GMS installer and the Google Installer v2 and now I can open the play store, but I can't use it to install or uninstall apps, it just gets stuck on the "(un)installing" screen. When I try to install the Play store from a separate apk I usually get a program which I can't even open. And I've tried this with and without the software update. If anyone has got the Play store working on this phone I'd love to know how you did it.
Overall I'm pretty upset with this phone. I didn't realize I was getting the Chinese version and of course it comes with all kinds of censorship and ability restrictions, I spend like 10 hours trying to figure out how to root it and it turns out Huawei decided to make unlocking the bootloader impossible only a few months ago and funkyhuawei (with their insane prices) can't even do anything for a Qualcomm chipset so I'm S.O.L. I don't think the Chinese company I bought from will give a refund after the box is opened so I'm basically out my $300 if I want another phone. I was excited to be getting such great hardware for such a low price but the lack of functionality and customizability makes it a complete waste.

Same situation here, here is what I did to get Play Store works on my Honor 8X :
- Turn on the "Authorize unknown source apps install thing"
- Install GMS installer to get the Play Store works
- Install Gboard to get rid of the chinese keyboard everywhere.
But still, I'm searching for the Global Firmware and according to a Honor / Huawei Customer Agent, they do not allow firmware downloads anymore.
Hope this can help other people in the same case...

Thanks a lot for the help. My more-tech-savvy friend encouraged me to use F-droid and Yalp and that has been working fine so I'm going to give that a try before insisting on getting Google back...I emailed Huawei customer support about unlocking the bootloader and received an interesting response:
"We kindly inform you that in order to achieve a better user experience, Huawei has decided to terminate the unlock code application service. If your device is already rooted, we inform you that it no longer counts with warranty or device support.
Also, Huawei USA does not provide codes to unlock the bootloader under any circumstance. We kindly inform you that this action can potentially "brick" the device or in other words, renders the device completely unusable and voids the warranty service and device support. We have no control over how unlocking the bootloader will affect your device."
I'm emailed Huawei USA just cause I'm American (living in Sweden though), but this response suggests that maybe if I email Huawei Sweden or China that they will give me one? Gonna give it a try and see what happens.
Also my original post may have been a bit reflexive, I need to give this phone a chance. I remember thinking my last phone (Galaxy S5) was pretty stupid for a few weeks, I eventually just got over it.

Yes, you nailed It!
Speaking for myself, I can say that Today I'm a happy owner of a Chinese Honor 8X, but in the past I was in trouble because I was not able to find the *right* version of GSM installer that fits to me (JSN-AL00a).
It was hard to clear all those Chinese apps from my device, but now I have a very strong phone with a high level of performance.
