Help!! I want to go back to MIUI from RR Oreo - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

A few days ago I installed RR Oreo on my device using twrp. Now I want to go back to MIUI and remove custom recovery. Basically I want to revert back to what it was before customising and stuff..
Right now, twrp asks for a password to work and even RR asks for a password before booting completely.
( Guess something to do with encryption)
Guys please suggest a fool proof method that won't brick my phone.
I searched on the net, but there were so many ways that I got confused..
Please help!!

Why would you even go back to miui?

Because I'm having issues
My camera isn't working, battery life sucks and there are heating issues.
Please tell me how to do it properly.
I think the device is encrypted. How to go about that?

If u coming from miui. Then Before installing custom rom U must format data in twrp. It formats the data and internal sd and decrypts the storage.
It will erase ur stuff.
First format data
Then wipe data factory reset
Flash rom
Flash gapps
Reboot

Thank you so much!!!! God bless you
Just one doubt.
I want to go back to MIUI from a custom ROM.
I made a twrp backup before installing my current ROM.
So after formatting data and wiping factory reset, can I use that backup to restore?
I tried restoring the backup earlier but the phone got stuck at mi logo (I didn't format data, maybe that's why it got stuck)

Try using Miflash

I want to flash my device with the best custom ROM . So any suggestions..

I have note 3 Kate variant with 2 GB RAM and unlocked bootloader . And I want to try the custom roms and to know how to flash it and if there anything happened and I want to go back to MIUI stable rom without locking the bootloader again and these kind of stuff ??? I am all ears . For the suggestion and the info .
So, if you unlocked your bootloader using OFFICIAL METHOD (got approval for unlocking and downloaded MI Unlock Tool), next thing you have to do is replacing your stock recovery with a TWRP, because on stock recovery, you are unable to flash any custom ROM.
Follow this if you are on the newest MIUI available and no more updates in the Updater app:
Download this one: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24727332921017084
After that, unpack the zip file on your computer. Next, power off your phone, and switch it on in FASTBOOT MODE (like you did while using Mi Unlock tool), and connect phone into your computer.
Start the flash.bat script. Follow the instructions it displays. After that, your phone will be rebooted into RECOVERY mode. If recovery start in Chinese language, you can switch it to English, this is described in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/zcx-twrp-install-twrp-flash-supersu-t3462448
After you will get a working custom recovery, with language that you understand, THE FIRST THING YOU HAVE TO DO IS BACKUP EVERYTHING YOU HAVE BEFORE PLAYING WITH ANYTHING. This recovery is able to make a backup. So, ckick on Backup option, and select EVERYTHING to backup. If you have an external SD card, switch the location from internal memory into the external SD card. Then swipe to begin backup process and wait until it finish.
After that, you have to decide whitch custom ROM to flash.
If you want to get high stability, and no extra features, you should choose this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-t3612905
If you want a lot of extra features, but less stability, choose this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-resurrectionremix-5-8-0-t3507433
If you want a good stability and some extra features, choose one of this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-pure-nexus-substratum-fi-wifi-t3577060
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-nitrogen-os-11-01-2017-t3536211
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-viperos-t3613688
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-aospextended-rom-v1-2-t3506955
All these ROMS are based on the newest released android, 7 Nougat. You can also try another ROMS in the SNAPDRAGON development section,
How to flash a ROM:
Download the zip file contains a rom, and place it in the SD card in to your phone or the internal memory.
Run your phone in the recovery mode. To do it switch it off, and turn it on by pressing Volume UP + Power. Check if you see your backup in the Restore section. If yes you will be able to restore it if something will go wrong.
Reset your phone into factory settings by selecting Wipe Data and swipe. After that go into the Install Zip section, and choose your zip contains the ROM. Swipe to flash it. After flash complete, use wipe Cache/ Dalvik cache option, and select "Reboot System". Your phone should boot up and load your custom ROM intead of MIUI. You will notice that there is no Google Play and another Google Services. It is not bundled with ROM due to Google licensing policy. If you want to have it, Google "Open Gapps", download it, and flash the zip in recovery mode like before, but don't wipe anything this time. After flashing done, boot up your ROM again and you will have a Google Play and another things from Google.

my phone sd card is not have a free storage to make a backup for the system and data so can i just backup the rom only or something like that and what will happen if i did not make a backup
i mean can i flash an official rom miui using twrb to fix anything like bootloob or that kind of issue > sorry for my bad english and my little info
Yes, you can select Internal Storage as a destination of backup, but, you are beginner and if you use a "wipe internal storage" in your recovery, all your backups will be gone. I did it one time, wiped internal storage in the recovery, and after that, I needed to restore my corrupted EFS partition from the backup. My backup was wiped and I had to use someone's backup posted on this forum, and set my IMEI number again. Now, my phone is working correctly but I lost my wifi card MAC address and Bloetooth MAC address. So, if you want to store your backup in the internal storage, also copy it into the other place to still have it if you wipe internal storage.
If you want to return to MIUI you can do it by flashing official MIUI from recovery but it can also be done by restore system, boot and data from your backup. If you want clean MIUI in factory state, then wipe data and restore only system and boot.

some of them are for kenzo devices so is that ok to flash them on kate device > i know i asked a lot but it is my only device so i must be careful
Kenzo and Kate are almost similar devices, difference is that kenzo not supporting LTE 800 mHz frequency, because it is not used in China. It is used in Europe, so Xiaomi created an Europe variant called Kate that support this frequency. So, you can flash kenzo ROM on Kate device. When you flash a ROM, the updater-script is launched and it checks that all the things are ok, and it also checks if you are flashing on the right device, it will terminate flash process if it will detects that you flashing on wrong device. If you will have problems with LTE 800 mHz, you have to find a zip that contains Kate modem and flash it, and everything will be ok.
moody your questions has been answered a 100 times. proper installation order is also described for many people before you asked. just read through those threads and youre good to go. when youre unlocked and have twrp running, do a full wipe without wiping internal storage and micro sd, then flash kenzo or kate firmware depends on which phone you have, then rom, gapps and restart. first boot might take about 10 minutes. just let it do it work...
im running resurrection rom since december and i only had to do a clean flash once when universal fingerprint support was included inside the rom. everyday you get notifications about updates ... i update just once in 2 weeks or so. dunno what should be unstable in RR as someone mentioned before ... for me this rom is rock stable. camera, phone etc everyhing works for me. im using it with the latest radon kernel
I would go with RR, it is pretty stable nowadays. If you want to play "safe" go with LOS.

Restore from TWRP

HI
after some wrong uninstalling service from my clean miui 9.6.25 global
i tried to restore rom by usual way from twrp.
but when done the pocophono never run to boot only logo screen(waiting atleast 15min which ofcourse is not normal).
has anyone faced that?
do i need to flash ENCRYPT disabler again after restore?:silly:
Come on......!!! cant be only me???!!!heheheh
TWRP is for lifesaver not to trouble as all know
I've found this too.
Encryption shouldn't matter.
Try restoring only one partition at a time to see which is causing the error. I think it's Userdata in my case, but Userdata Image may work.
I've not bothered to investigate why this happens yet.
ok
i will try mate.
thank u!
i will come backup for update
My phone had latest Miui9, then I installed Twrp and backup the Miui9 rom by Twrp.
then I flashed Miui 10, back up it with TWRP.
Then try to restore my Miui 9 Twrp backup, after done the phone boot to Fast boot mode only.
Even tried restore Miui10 still it would boot to fastboot mode only. Flash new rom and reboot it will ask for encryption password.
The fix is need to format data (Wipe > Format data > type yes, after flashed the rom), and reboot it should work.
Yeah, restoring MIUI backups is a real pain... Because of that, I always flash the ROM zip file first, then restore the data only, reboot and it works.

so steps:
1st flashing miui rom.zip
2nd restore files with twrp backup file?
and all works perfect????
data? system? image system? which please
first time i hear this method...hehehe
pin\password asking after?
miui account find device e.t.c?
I switch ROMs pretty often and MIUI never booted after restoring.
There's a simple workaround: just reflash MIUI whenever you restored.

Install MIUI zip (with the same system you backed up), then go to restore and just restore data and nothing else. If you used Magisk before, flash it too after restoring. Then reboot. I don't know about Global ROMs as I always use Xiaomi.eu but I think it should work the same way. Oh, and never backup data with a password/pin/fingerprint set because it will not recognise it after reboot and you will have to use TWRP to delete locksettings from /data/system which adds unnecessary steps to this tedious procedure. Good luck.
thank u bro!

Hi, I'm having the same issue.
I get a PIN code. How can I bypass it?
How can I avoid it in the future?
Thanks!
if password promt during boot u have no option other than format data
only lockscreen can be deleted via twrp
I had the same problem in my pocophone and solved it like this:
1. Advanced wipe all data except Internal storage (so you do not lose your data)
1.1 Flash or boot twrp again
2. Install the official rom using the way you know
3. Starts android the first time but without doing the initial configuration of android (I'm not sure if this is necessary but it costs nothing to do it)
4. Through twrp, restores the data but only the options Boot and Data, dont select System
And that's it. I hope it works for you.
I was trying different combinations and I realized that it is the system folder that has a problem when you make the restoring, don't know why.
I was using pocophone with MIUI 10.2.2

Wierd behavior

Guys i just unlocked my phone i tried out Android Pie Roms.
I tried Lineage OS, didn't like it.
Then i tried Pixel experience. nah
Now i want to switch back to MIUI stock rom and i simply CAN'T
i flash the stock rom through TWRP and when i boot my device i'm asked for a password that i haven't set at all.
It is wierd because i can see that the UI asking for password is android Pie but i'm running stock MIUI rom
my device is simply unusable right now, i cant boot into OS anymore
Guys if i go to \data\system there is NO *.key file at all. what is happening? my phone is bricked
Try to flash the stock rom on miflash, download the fastboot rom on MIUI Site or here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/how-to/xiaomi-poco-f1-unlock-bootloader-custom-t3839405
or in TWRP try to wipe dalvik, cache, system and data except internal storage and try to flash the full stock rom again
i have stock rom on my sdcard, i flash it many times. wiped everything, but i'm still being asked for a android pie password that i have not ever set

Password is either your miui linked account password or lock screen password you set first time on miui
If either worked try like He told you flash sto k THROUGH MIFLASH not TWRP that way you really go back to stock MIUI

I had exactly the same problem, and what guys said miflash tool helped me (but don't forget in miflash you must to choose "clean all").

If you don't need the data simply press cancel when you see password and format data.
Or if You need to access data, well it's encrypted I guess so yeah, you need the password.

If you don't know the password you better have an SD card with the stable rom zip in it, or a computer where you can flash it.

You are simply flashing in the completely wrong steps that's why you keep getting encryption "issues"
Have a read on how to install a ROM using twrp, you obviously still using encrypted data before flashing and not formating before.
Before we had to use fore encrypt zip but not anymore so yeah there's that..
Install TWRP.
In a fresh install, simply press no when password shows, after that simply choose format data and you will get a message saying you sure "it's not a password question" simply type "yes" and press ok.
Done!
Now install what ever ROM you like.

What I've found is that the F1 ROMs encrypt data at the end of the boot, even if you have formatted it in twrp. Worse, they use different encryption keys between stable and Dev ROMs. Flashing stable over dev or the other way around always left me in the same situation as you. And going back to the previous ROM never worked.

Question Unable to set lockscreen password after twrp restore

I recently made a backup of every partition with TWRP and forgot to remove screenlock beforehand. So I restored the full backup after messing with custom roms, everything worked perfectly and everything was restored, until I couldnt set a password... I can go to the settings to set up a password but after confirming it, it closes and I have to do it again. Not even custom roms with formatted data can set a password... What can I do?
(The video has black parts which is just the recording hiding me setting up a password)
I've been there... Twice. The only thing that helped was a factory reset by (a) OnePlus (servicepoint).
NOTE: if they reflash stock rom, they should afterwards REBOOT TO STOCK RECOVERY, WHIPE EVERYTHING and reflash the rom once more.
If you ignore this step and a second flash, the question is not IF you will gey problems, but when.

So, if I bring it to a oneplus service point and they fix it, I should format data and flash stock rom again after? Where do I find the stock rom to flash?
No! They should re-flash stock (that's what they'll do anyway). But YOU need to tell them, to (after the flash) reboot to stock recovery, wipe all, and then re-re-flash the stock rom.
If they don't do that, they'll see you again, soon.
For some reason I don't know, one flash keeps residu of former 'playing around'. Your service point will probably NOT know this.
