If you don't need the data simply press cancel when you see password and format data.
Or if You need to access data, well it's encrypted I guess so yeah, you need the password.

If you don't know the password you better have an SD card with the stable rom zip in it, or a computer where you can flash it.

Try to reflash the ROM (hope it is stock) with MiFlash and remember to uncheck the bootloader lock option.

its the second time i try to flash a custom rom(i am now at the superior rom),and both the tries the first one lost the motive pattern and fix it with twrp file manager deleting locscreen.sh and the second attempt when finished it was asking me for the password at the boot of the rom which i havent got...so my question is this....what i am doing wrong......thanks guys for the help....obviously a niewbe.....thanks again....i managed to fix it and restore my previously rom format data didnt make it so fix and repair and after switch to ext4....to see the internal data....success.....

You are simply flashing in the completely wrong steps that's why you keep getting encryption "issues"
Have a read on how to install a ROM using twrp, you obviously still using encrypted data before flashing and not formating before.
Before we had to use fore encrypt zip but not anymore so yeah there's that..
Install TWRP.
In a fresh install, simply press no when password shows, after that simply choose format data and you will get a message saying you sure "it's not a password question" simply type "yes" and press ok.
Done!
Now install what ever ROM you like.

When you format data, reboot device to recovery and after that install ROM.

What I've found is that the F1 ROMs encrypt data at the end of the boot, even if you have formatted it in twrp. Worse, they use different encryption keys between stable and Dev ROMs. Flashing stable over dev or the other way around always left me in the same situation as you. And going back to the previous ROM never worked.

What he suggested will delete the lockscreen password/passcode etc so you can boot the phone without any prompts. You do this within TWRP.

oh in that case, should I have to factory reset everytime I flash a rom through my TWRP? I use ZCX TWRP, so Lazy flasher is not required after rom flashing right?
you just need it once . to decrypt your storage

In the information about the ZCX TWRP I found below:
ZCX TWRP : http://forum.xda-developers.com/redm...persu-t3462448
- Based on official TWRP 3.0.2-0
- Patches boot.img automatically (Removes dm-verity flag)
- Disables forced encryption
Should I have to tweak anything in TWRP settings to remove this dm-verify flag everytime?

no ,but you should flash lazy flasher once . to decrypt ur internal storage. dm-verity flag does nothing to decrypt storage

And on the first boot it asked me to enter password. though i have never kept password for my mobile, i tried all the passwords that i remember, which didnt solve my issue. then saw ur reply and tried it, and still it didnt work for me. Any other way?:crying:

Are you coming from MIUI? If so then MIUI encrypts the data partition, hence the new ROM asking for a password.
Before you install the ROM, you must "format data" on wipe in TWRP, this is different from wipe data.
Note that this will delete all your data obviously.

Yes i am coming from MIUI. I had done that But no use. Tried what ever that has been discussed in the following thread as well, but that also did not work for me.

Posted a thread on MIUI forum as well. Waiting for some sort of help. Earlier i was able to install Custom Rom's without any issue, (though i am coming from MIUI), but now what ever may be the rom that i am trying to flash, the first boot is asking me for password. Unable to understand what is the issue.

Are you sure that you used "format data"?
Wipe data doesn't remove the encryption.

Twrp 3.1.0 Decrypt Data asking Password

Hi
I saw that to avoid that situation you gotta wipe data, which I don't feel like doing since I want to do a backup of my phone.
Any recommendations?

Yeah seems like it... thx
Had to sideload aurel Rom.
try rebooting
Hi,
I have a Le Max 2 and after Indian ROM I got that problem, the funny/strange thing is that if I use TWRP and reboot into recovery several times it eventually starts and seems encryption is off as it doesn't ask for the password and I can access every mount this is a stupid behaviour as it should always be encrypted...
Tried formatting both mount-points but still kept asking for the password.
Found this when I rebooted the phone into recovery and didn't see the password screen now when I need to do any installation I just use this method.
Regards,
Pedro.
I got TWRP 3.1.0 asking for password for Encrypt data. I was flashing Nexus rom and Black screen 1.7.img kernel (i might flash the wrong one img/zip)and reboot and it bootloop. So I reboot again into recovery (luckily it still there) but still asking for password. Eventually I got into TWRP and manage to restore backup from OTG, after I found out my internal storage was wipe out all data was gone. Now the phone is working normal I just lost all the stuff.
Just factory reset, worked for me.

Help!! I want to go back to MIUI from RR Oreo

A few days ago I installed RR Oreo on my device using twrp. Now I want to go back to MIUI and remove custom recovery. Basically I want to revert back to what it was before customising and stuff..
Right now, twrp asks for a password to work and even RR asks for a password before booting completely.
( Guess something to do with encryption)
Guys please suggest a fool proof method that won't brick my phone.
I searched on the net, but there were so many ways that I got confused..
Please help!!
Why would you even go back to miui?
Because I'm having issues
My camera isn't working, battery life sucks and there are heating issues.
Please tell me how to do it properly.
I think the device is encrypted. How to go about that?

If u coming from miui. Then Before installing custom rom U must format data in twrp. It formats the data and internal sd and decrypts the storage.
It will erase ur stuff.
First format data
Then wipe data factory reset
Flash rom
Flash gapps
Reboot
Thank you so much!!!! God bless you
Just one doubt.
I want to go back to MIUI from a custom ROM.
I made a twrp backup before installing my current ROM.
So after formatting data and wiping factory reset, can I use that backup to restore?
I tried restoring the backup earlier but the phone got stuck at mi logo (I didn't format data, maybe that's why it got stuck)
Try using Miflash

TWRP requires password

Hi everyone,
I have this problem that TWRP asks me for a password every time, I tried entering my password but it didn't work, if I press cancel I get in the menu but TWRP can't see internal storage only SD card.
Does someone know a fix for this problem?
I've tried some stock passwords also I tried reflashing TWRP but neither worked for me.

This is a main problem right now on TWRP... You have to actually wipe all data for making TWRP work! there is not another way of doing it.

Yes, I assume that is the only way for now when installing custom ROM (Lineage OS 14.1) TWRP no longer asks for passwords on start-up even after restoring MIUI 9.6 via TWRP, it still doesn't want pass
I reset my device via wipe option in twrp home screen but , the problem still persists. Provide some other method to overcome this problem.

Make a backup via TWRP and save it on USB OTG or SD card.
From the WIPE menu select ADVANCED
Select everything (except for USB OTG and MicroSD, that is where your backup is) and then Swipe to Wipe. Restore the backup you made.
That did it for me, I didn't clean flash official ROM because I've read that it bricks the device if you do it via TWRP (I am not sure if that is true or not, if someone has information, please share.)
Important: I am not some expert in flashing modifying unlocking and etc. This is just my personal experience, if you decide to try this and somehow you brick or/and damage your devices, I am not responsible in any way, if you are not sure what you are doing, better just don't do anything.
Good Luck!
TWRP 3.1.1.0
Nothing solved the problem but twrp 3.1.1.0 .
I am now having this proble where do I get twrp 3.1.1.0 the official site lists only 3? this password problem has annoyed me for hours now

Flash miui with fastboot mode with pc than you see stock recovery come
All TWRP for Rosy (Miui 10, global/ EU) now has problem with password for encryption. However I just select SD, point to the downloaded ROM and flash, and it works! Update new rom and do not lose anything. I think it only hide the OS. I only swipe the data when OS crash
Use the steps in this thread

TWRP - Can't decrypt data/mount my storage.

TWRP recovery used to ask for a password to decrypt/mount my storage.
I flashed a new image to update the recovery and wiped my data too as I wanted to flash another rom,
but now when I'm opening the recovery with my password, it shows "Wrong Password"
and I can't mount storage and that's why I can't flash another rom.
Please help.

Did you do data partition format? Not only wipe, format is needed
Hello, to delete the encrypted partition if you don't know the password, you have to format it, but if you don't want to lose something of what there is, install Orangefox recovery, the same thing happened to me and this recovery mounts the partition even if it is encrypted. ...
Mine's worst, despite the efforts of wiping and formatting I still can't install a rom due to unable to mount storage problem. I hope anyone help me, this will speed up my nonstop search for a fix -_-

Dear i am facing the same problem. This is what happens when we install a rom without logging out our passwords and accounts from the device. The Lockscreen password is the one which encrypts the storage. And when we try to flash another rom without decrypting our storage on the first hand.. It stucks.... TWRP will never be able to decrypt it. The only one solution which i have in my mind is to relock the bootloader through Stock Rom and then unlocking the bootloader might have the chances to resolve the issue. Just thinking to do so.......... Its an idea rather........

I see but for some reasons I can't flash the exactly same firmware stock rom, it always says corrupted file, I dunno what will I do now, I tried every versions of my phone's stock roms all with the same error corrupted file. I'm using orange fox recovery cause I can't seem to find a compatible TWRP since I updated to latest firmware, by the way my phone is RMX2061_11_C23. I tried using adb sideload but with no luck. I'm still stuck...
