Honor 10 Hard Bricked Dead Boot - Honor 10 Questions & Answers

I used HuRUpdater to flash firmware to my Honor 10 and after following the instructions and performing a full wipe data factory reset and rebooted, it wouldn't turn on at all. I tried everything to get into ERecovery or fastboot but nothing. I read that there's is no solution for unbricking 2018 Honor/Huawei devices. Even Funky Huawei doesn't work or Multi Tool.

They were unable to fix it or replace the device as bricking voids the warranty.

Yesterday one user was able to succeed updating through [HuRUpdater] and one of my friend was also able to update to one build but it showed different device specs and the same build build you tried hard bricked his device. If my guess is right it is the build issue and not [HuRUpdater] issue.May be I am wrong ?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76966338&postcount=7
Btw how does the brick Voids warranty ?
Its just a software issue and is covered in warranty.
Which country do you stay ?

I'm in the UK. I'm not exactly sure how bricking voids warranty but my guess would be because the end user is responsible for flashing various software to the device. I do remember seeing on the EMUI website that bootloader unlocking on devices after mid 2018 won't be eligible for bootloader unlocking due to so many hardware bricking cases.
I'm happy with my new OnePlus 6 though. I'll probably have to let go of the hope of recovering the Honor 10 even though I'm making a loss as I was gonna sell it.

I have same problem , I connected my device to adb , and I tried to reboot it , with adb reboot bootloader , fastboot reboot etc. and it said starting dameon , but stil nothing. pease help

Hello Guys,
I had exactly the same problem.
I upgraded to EMUI 9 and everything worked fine but I wanted to go back to EMUI 8.1 so I went to TWRP with the intention of doing a factory restoration and downgrade.
I made a Wipe / data, Wipe dalvic / format all data. After this I waited a lot and it didn´t respond.
I had to force the restart and since then the phone no longer works. Same for me, the phone has no recovery and no OS and no erecovery.
I have contacted the people from FunckyHuawei. I have paid 1 credit in order to unbrick the phone but it did not work. They said that; "It would need to be able to reach rescue recovery mode. If it can not reach that, it may be bricked beyond repair. "
Then I contacted another technician, I connected to my computer remotely and he tried to flash all necessary files via fastboot but some of them failed to flash.
He said it looks like there is no TWRP recovery COMPATIBLE for EMUI9 yet.
Now what to do guys? I will really apreciate any help. The phone has only 3 weeks and I feel so noob now.
Kind Regards,
Gerardo

Hello Max
I have flashed the update.zip using beta-downy_0.4 program
you have to transfer the 3 zip files update.zip, update_all_hw, update_data_public tp the "Zip-Here" Folder.
Then run the "Flash.bat" file and follow the instruction.
The update.zip will install the twrp recovery. Then I flashed the Kernel.img and system.img
after restar the phone was like new with EMUI9. However there are things that are not really well, such like the info in "about phone" is not showing the "compilation number" nor model number, also other options and functionalities has dissapeared but for the rest the phone works fine. At least you can recover the phone. I will do some more research today to fix those issues. I might have to reflash the whole system again.

Hello Max, any news?

In this case i would roll back on emui 8 to make sure that everything works and then go emui 9 by using hisuite 5.0.0.300 and change ip4 dns. Tht should work. I remember on huawei p9 it has to be with an earlier version to be able to pass some main things to the next firmware so you will jot have broken menus. That was upgrading ofc emui 6 to emui 7. I ssume though its something similar

Yes , that's what I did. I rolled back to 8.0 by changing the DNS as well. Then I have upgraded to 8.1 and I will wait for EMUI9 OTA.

Hello, I have a similar problem I've been using emui 9 for a month but I decided to roll back because there was some app draining the battery when I went to recovery and wiped the data but that didn't work for some reason. now I'm unable to use my phone the only thing i can use is the fastboot

OTA to 6.0.1 sent my stock Nexus 9 into bootloop - I am not alone

My bone stock Nexus 9 went into a bootloop after taking the update to 6.0.1. It appears that the Nexus help forums are blowing up with many Nexi owners of various flavors experiencing the same problem.
Unfortunately, I never checked "allow OEM unlock," so I couldn't just flash a new image. Clearing cache and factory reset were also no help. I got the dreaded (or standard, depending if you've been tinkering) "your device is corrupt" nastygram before it went into bootloop.
Fortunately it was still under warranty. Does anyone know what HTC does with these units when they are returned? Do they have the ability to unlock the bootloader and fix it by flashing the vendor image or something along those lines?

It's already at the HTC repair facility in Memphis. I didn't see that thread earlier, or else I would have tried that. Thanks for trying to help...
Mine is on it's way to Memphis:} Talked to Google, they are well aware of the 6.1 fu. Said they are working on another update for a "fix". Can't fix a dead OS with an update though. Anyone here thought about a "class action"? Just a thought:}
For something like this they should not be charging anyone. They have had the exact same issue on Nexus 7s in the past, and they were taking care of it free of charge even if you were out of warranty.
Hah, so it's not just me then! Mine is off to whatever the UK version of Memphis is. Probably Milton Keynes.

This worked for me! Thanks, corkiejp. I had to wipe everything, but at least it saved me from sending my tablet off to get worked on.
HTC sent me a new tablet. It seems like every time there's an update some of us get a corrupted OTA and it bricks the device. I can't believe that they haven't come up with a secure way do deal with a dead OS, especially since the fix is so expensive for them if it's under warranty.

[EMUI 5.1] OTA Firmwares and Unbrick Phone method

Consider one day you upset the devil and your phone is bricked by him, lets try to revive the phone from hell (at your own risk) :
Link to the OTA firmware's :
Click here for the links page
Important tools links:
[TOOL] Huawei Multi-Tool v8 by Team MT by inside!out
TWRP Honor 7X img
Stage 1
Download from here everything you need for the procedure - Download Folder Link
I am testing it on my BND-L21 firmware from BND-AL10
Downloading firmware (from topic). Full firmware must be more than 1.5Gb, all smaller is just
OTA Updates to the system.
After that we must download Huawei-MultiTool (future MT) version 8.x.x (link topic)
and downloading custom recovery. We will use TWRP for Honor7x (link topic)
Last we must prepare OTG Cable, SD Card more than 4Gb. On first stage that's all.
Stage 2
Go to MT and reboot phone to Fastboot mode (while phone off, hold "Volume -" and power)
If you did all correctly, you will see in the down right side your number and "Fastboot".
Now go in MT to the Bootloader and check the status. If you have already unlocked, skip this.
If you have locked phone, you must have IMEI and Huawei account. (if not please unlock your bootloader via the Huawei site)
After that, go to Recovery menu and choose our TWRP image in "Custom recovery" section and
type "Recovery". IMPORTANT!!! DON'T FLASH ERECOVERY, I DON'T HAVE THIS IMAGE!!!
After flashing recovery, we must turn off our phone.
Now we must to prepare base system image. In archive we have UPDATE.ZIP file. extract this
file to custom folder and open "Unbrick" in MT and choose "extractor". Open our file in extractor
and click right mouse key on empty space, choose extract all... and choose custom folder to
extracting.
Go to the folder and copy file VENDOR.IMG to the SD-Card (or USB with OTG). Turn on your
device in Recovery mode (Volume + and power), choose Wipe and Wipe ALL partitions! After
doing this, go to Install and choose "Install img", go to the SD-Card, and install VENDOR.img to
VENDOR folder (Important!)
After installing reboot phone again to Fastboot mode and connect to PC.
Now we must download .zip update to your region. We need this for using LTE (4G) in your country + Localization.
After downloading open .zip archive with our CUST file. archive must be called update_BND-
YOUR-NUMBER_hw_YOUR- COUNTRY.zip
From this archive we must extract .img file from root folder. It can be called cust.img CUST.img
version.img etc.
if name different from CUST.img rename it and put to the extracted UPDATE.app folder.
Last Stage 3
In MT go to Unbrick, choose our unpacked system with our CUST file and we must have at least
4/5 checkbox. And just type "UNBRICK" and wait. NOTICE: at moment of extracting system.img
it will be about 10-15 minutes. It's not a freezing of PC)
After good installing in log you will see like "All ok" Just reboot phone and you will see low level
factory reset, or something else like formatting. After formatting phone will reboot to the system.
That's all
Flashing Gapps method coming soon...
Password - 4pda for the update_full_bnd-AL10... Zip
Special Thanks to Kallibr44 my friend who helped me decipher everything. :highfive:

there is a procedure used by EU users to completely revive the phone using the OTA but the procedure is too long which i haven't tried yet and is completely for users who have dead phones for now and yes obviously there is no official firmware available for Honor 7x but the user from an EU forum revived his phone so it is possible from the images.
though i made this thread for users who want to update their firmwares and not the procedure to flash a stock firmware since there is not one available yet but i can point to the thread where this user posted the procedure if someone wants to try. PM me

There are teams who have unlocked a lot of stuff like flashing international FW,
flashing gapps on chinese fw, Automatic Call Recording, restoring the phone.
so i am in contact with them to make our phone better. lets keep our fingers crossed. :fingers-crossed:
i am waiting for firmware flashing to get it translated from one of the users.
This is the full recovery package right? Atleast for the Indian version?

They arent recovery packages. they are full OTA which can be flashed for updating.
but there is a process to compile them into making them stock firmware packages but due to the long procedure i didnt post it here. rather wait for official stock firmware package.

this is to update to the latest firmware. if you have the latest firmware you dont need it.
the multi tool is used to flash stock with a procedure which is only needed to return to stock or else theres no need for it for the most part..

1- can i upgrade the system at every update (when the device is rooted) with Firmware finder many times even if I don't recive the notification on the phone of the update (or if the device updater cannot find it)?
2-ok but if do all right steps you cannot brick the phone, no?
3-ok i only wanna unlock bootloader, flash twrp and root the phone. If I do all right steps there are no risks, no?
4-i don't understand it (in hisuite there s the option that says "Update device". With the device rooted can I update the phone with this software?)
5-ok but can I do one with a custom recovery, no?
6-ok so we just have to wait, no?
7-ok. Same thing of the - 6 (we have to wait for the UPDATE.APP for the 7x to be able to UNBRICK the phone in case it could happen, no?)
Sorry for my bad English and thanks for the answers?

1. yes you can if the app supported honor 7x with their firmware but it doesn't yet, use twrp
2. yes you can upgrade via flashing it in twrp
3. unlocking bootloader itself is dangerous let alone rooting since your waranty is gone since there is still no sign of official stock firmware
4. same as no. 1 ans
5. if u flashed twrp you can do your nandroid backup which can be later restored anytime so it will be obv on the phone at that time
6. manual or local update? in the op main post i guess? by opening the link?
7. Still no official firmware and the procedure i am aware of consists of turning the official chinese firmware into normal by changing settings and stuff which is a long procedure so probably if u brick, u r stuck until honor decides to release stock firmware
by the looks i guess you have no clue about phone flashing, its better you dont try anything until there are guides properly made for newbies. :silly:

I rooted my 7X(Al10) version successfully but while performing the reset, deleted the system file also by mistake. There is no TWRP backup. Is there any way to get the stock OS files again to flash in TWRP ? Or does anyone have a backup file they made that they can share? I tried Huawei e-recovery too, but that gets stuck at 'unable to get package info'. I have a TWRP backup not sure if it'll work, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EntdgNwcJSOTZizqt_W-yWfkd3-YVmCm/view?usp=drivesdk
It's a zip file with 2 backup folder, one with boot and system and one with vendor
Edit: pls thank if it worked, so I have an indicator of the effectiveness

1. yes you can if the app supported honor 7x with their firmware but it doesn't yet, use twrp
2. yes you can upgrade via flashing it in twrp
3. unlocking bootloader itself is dangerous let alone rooting since your waranty is gone since there is still no sign of official stock firmware
4. same as no. 1 ans
5. if u flashed twrp you can do your nandroid backup which can be later restored anytime so it will be obv on the phone at that time
6. manual or local update? in the op main post i guess? by opening the link?
:silly:

1. In the app firmware finder there are firmwares for the phone but how can I flash a official firmware (OTA I mean) if there are no one (or how can I flash a firmware finder Update)?
2. Same thing in -1 (I mean)
3. Ok. Now we have to wait the official stock firmware, no? (i don't understand this answer, please write it in another way)
4. I don't understand it
5. Okok (obv? Sorry I'm Italian hahaha)
6. It's not the same thing local or manual? Write it in another way please hahaha google translate doesnt help me?
7. Okok, So if I don't use your method I only have to wait that honor release the official stock firmware (UPDATE. APP). And for greater security it's better wait it before to root and unlock bootloader etc, no?
Anyway, I have an idea of what flashing is, in fact every device I have (they are all Samsung, so that's why I'm disoriented) is completely modified. The fact is that I dont have much experience (I'm 14 years old) with non-Samsung devices, in fact my honor 7x I received for Christmas and for the hurry and the want to modify it, I would like to know all these things.
Thank you

OK thanks I'll keep it aside in case of brick
I would recommend everyone to not do experiments over your phone to try and root and flash random stuff..
they only have official chinese firmware for flashing so its better to wait for the official firmware for non chinese version.
the method which i know of to flash on the phone is for people with flashing knowledge cz the procedure is not simple and secondly even i have been flashing my phone for many years on various devices yet i havent got the guts to root this first honor device cz their partitions are different and somewhat secured so dont play with it.
wait for the official firmware for your respective devices. maybe they will straightaway launch the oreo firmware.

Wifi randomly disconnects

Hi, just got my Huawei P20 Lite in January and dont know much about them, I've had samsung phones for the past 6 years and they were much easier to deal with.
Anyway, for some reason my wifi will randomly disconnect weather the phone is in use or asleep.
i never had this problem on my other phone and every other device in the house works perfectly.
i have tried restarting, forgetting and reconnecting the network, made sure "WiFi off during sleep" is off. wifi+ is off.
tried the above methods and nothings worked so far, i dont wanna do a factory reset but i will as a last resort.
any advice appreciated, Thanks.

I did a factory reset and hope it works. I currently have 8.0.0.159 (C432) and my model number is ANE-LX1, vodafone branded.
Im hoping the factory reset will sort it out.
Just my penny's worth,I also am facing the same issues, constantly searching & disconnecting, despite having WiFi+ off.
However my software also a Vodafone handset albeit unlocked is on 8.0.0.151 (C782).

The hard reset won't solve it if the issue was still present on your last update 8.0.0.157, so I've done the research and your complete build number is this one C432B157 .
If the issue was not present before on build 8.0.0.157, then I advise you to downgrade to that version. If the hard reset worked then great

Hi AS,
Am I correct in assuming that if I wanted to "rebrand"
To flash "8.0.0.172(C432)" found here ?https://androidhost.ru/Tuu?pt=V1ZJdk9XWTBSMloyVlhRdlNHNVBTa2h6ZG5WQ1FUMDlPdmRCZFdZV2lSNko5NFlDTFgzbzVaZz0%3D thus enabling me to get more frequent updates? Will me being on c782 be an issue if I'm to flash c432
Update; Even after a factory reset its still happening.
Btw i would love to know how to debrand my phone.
I have tried the dload method, erecovery method, and the DNS method of firmware finder and nothing has worked.
Everytime I try i get "software update failed" and it's frustrating. Samsung firmware was easier to manipulate.

Hi there
No, to rebrand a phone you need to change the oeminfo image of the system, you must have an unlocked bootloader and a TWRP recovery to backup the current oeminfo image (C782).

Hey
Same thing as for the other person, you need to change oeminfo system image to be able to flash a dload package
As for the issue you guys are having with the wifi connection you guys should downgrade via dload package to an older version of your system, example: 8.0.0.159 to 8.0.0.157, this will delete all your data though, so BACKUP FIRST and only then downgrade.
That should work for the Wifi issue.
Cheers,
AS
See my guide for how I did this. I unbranded my uk ee device to a generic European device

*New* July 2020 Unlock bootloader of Huawei devices (Kirin 960/659/655)

Apologies if this is reported elsewhere (I couldn't find it) but here is a new unlock method by 'mashed-potatoes' on github and it's flippin' awesome!
See: "github.com/mashed-potatoes/PotatoNV[/" (had to format like this due to XDA newbie rules)
I've just unlocked a P10 bootloader with it - the phone was running Oreo with a March 2019 security patch :good:
It is a test point method - so back cover needs to be removed (TP location easily found on YouTube)
When I realised I was stuck on a patch >June18 I thought bootloader unlocking wouldn't be possible (although I was trawling XDA archives to see if flashing board software for unlocked fastboot might provide a route). Anyway, didn't need any of that cuz I ran PotatoNV.exe and put the phone in TP mode and ker-boom: BL unlocked! Amazing work.
EDIT:
A few extra tips to help get through the process:
- You will need to install Test-point drivers - can be found by running the Potato program and following the web address to the User Manual - link to drivers is there. (Uninstall drivers when finished or else phone won't be recognized properly by PC later!)
- Open up Device Manager to check that you are booting to TP - devices changes from 'USB SER' to 'USB (COM')' - or something like that, I don't exactly remember!. It might take a few goes to boot into TP - disconnect then reconnect battery each attempt.
Thanks for sharing this program. this works for me, after bricking my phone 2 years ago. I finally got to unlock my bootloader. And its working now and doing great.

Ah yes I bricked my phone 2 times already and experienced what erecovery is for. It's my first time to mess with my good ol p10 have you tried any working open kirin custom on it? cuz everytime I flash a 9.0/9.1 compatible rom it ends on bootloop I used adb and fastboot btw. This is my last question sorry a noobie here.
(take note I followed every instructions on their support page on how to flash)

this was certainly an interesting experience, i could unlock the bootloader, but doing it via the file thing provided it won't work, going to fastboot and doing fastboot oem unlock, then booting into a twrp recovery and flashing magisk v24.3, it bricked the OS and i had to fight to get it to boot, twrp broke and is locked it refuses to unlock, it gave me an odd looking recovery mode as if it was from android kitkat or something (thats the best i can describe it, it looked much different from the other recovery to wipe) and it said it couldn't boot android and it said to factory reset, so i did.. it downgraded me to android 11 and now its rooted but i can't update to android 12 now because of it being rooted? is there a way to update to 12 now?

Afraid not because OTA updates will look for rooted or bootloader unlocked devices and will normally give you a white screen error code.Nature of the beast I guess you could say.If you don't plan on doing a custom rom or trying to remove OEM software it's not really worth it honestly.

Think about it this way, a V60 with a broken screen is less than 100 bucks. If you brick it, you can fix it for far less than bricking any other phone in a similar class.

And this is very true! The V60 was way ahead of it's time! It's a shame LG devices were never marketed properly and supported on a local retail level like they should have been. And even if you did brick them, worst thing would be peeling the back off and hitting the testpoint to bring it back to life.

Yes! I was so excited that i got 12 on it, the bootloader shows its android 12 though.. which is really confusing to me.. is there any chance there's an android 12 kdz for this phone floating around that i could try to root and flash? i'm kind of regretting it now, i can't get the fingerprint scanner working following the tutorial there.. i can't update to 12 again it just fails to download, my recovery mode is gone, i can't get back into the bootloader/fastboot mode only EDL mode but it won't recognize anything within windows, adb won't work nor fastboot, can i recover it still if i wish to go back to stock?
The good news is, it gets much better benchmark scores and is much much faster..
on geekbench, 1688 single core, 6203 multicore, it had a higher score but said it was invalid? that one was 4067 single core, 15601 multicore
antutu, it scored 695755 with just using kernel auditor and maxing out the cpu freq and setting gpu freq to 870mhz.
Edit: I just remembered, for where you mentioned the bootloader, i don't have the engineering one installed. i never got that far to even install it. just android debugging > oem unlock > fastboot > fastboot oem unlock

That depends on what model of V60 you have? Most of the kdz files for Verizon or T-Mobile can be found at the link below.AT&T or Sprint no kdz's to be found except back up Qfil copies I have found.Take a look, and LGUP it if you find the firmware you want. Most will be A11 and you can just OTA back to A12 with no problem.

If you refurb it with LGUP it will wipe it all.The T-Mobile model has A12,but no physical kdz as of yet. So,you'll have to OTA back to A12 once you set it all back up.

Yes,that wil work until the next update. If it's modified when the next OTA hits,it will give you the update error.Basically, you just set it back stock and the update works. But,glad you have it worked out.
