Midnight Black or Titanium Grey? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

I know it's a personal preference thing but I am upgrading from the S8 and for the life of me I cannot decide on which color to get. I have seen them in person and they both look fantastic but I just cannot make a decision yet.
My S7 Edge and S8 are both Midnight Black so I have been thinking about changing this time and going for Grey but I am really hesitant about it because it seems to be a bit reflective and prone to showing scratches and scuff marks easier - is that true?
I have not been following up on reviews of the S9+ so I am not really aware if either color has any specific problems that owners realized later on?
Please enlighten me and help me choose.
Thank you!

I have the Grey Exynos and Blue Snapdragon in my house. I personally like the blue colour over the grey as it looks more appealing. No scratches or scuffs yet in them(really care for them lol) and both are equally reflective.

@sabertooth Thanks for your reply! Blue is actually the color I was interested in initially but then I realized that it's not sold here unless I buy it from a third party website without warranty, similar to craigslist but locally, and I am not interested in spending that much money on something like that. I think I'll go for Midnight Black again, simply because I am already used to it and reviews say that it has more of a matte finish compared to the S8's glossy one, which would actually be nicer for me. I was quite high when I saw it in the store so I wasn't very detail oriented.

BLACK!

Is Asus color blind?

With more real-world images coming out, it's becoming more and more apparent that the "Amethyst Gray" model is actually purple and the "Champagne Gold" is Gray.
Personally, I wanted a nice gray aluminum look, so I (foolishly?) ordered the "gray" tablet. Now that I know it's purple, this leaves me with a decision to make. Do I cancel my Amazon 64GB Gray pre-order from 11/22 and move to the back of the line for a Gold (actually gray) order?
What do you guys think? Is it annoying that the color names have no basis in reality, or is it just me?

Find a local gamestop that has a display and see what the grey looks like. Didn't look at all purple to me, just a darker gray

I'd say which ever ships first , just run with it. More than likely will be covered with a case or skin anyways so doesn't really matter, IMO
The Purple in the Prime is barely noticeable.Just a slight tint.I seen it in person. You can barely tell. The gold i dont no about, but i would like to see it in person.
do you know what "amethyst" means?
My "champagne" Prime is a faintly gold-tinged silver. I think it looks quite nice tbh.

Exactly. Amethyst is a purple/violet form of quartz. Logic would dictate that "Amethyst Gray" would be a gray with some purplish hue to it. I would have figured everyone knew that. Then again, that'll teach me for keeping my expectations high on the internet.

I don't get some of you guys. You 'd rather compromise on a $499+ investment that you'll probably have at least a year just to get it first vs. waiting a couple of weeks to get what you really want? There's zero risk that by January you won't get exactly what you want. It's not like Asus is producing a single run where if you don't buy it now you're screwed. They expect to sell a million (which is lofty) in 2012. Once the initial wave of early adopters and X-Mas gifters get one there's going to be plenty of supply. Also by waiting a couple of weeks any early-run kinks and s/w bugs may get ironed out. Who knows, maybe they'll even start shipping it with ICS in January.
From personally looking at my Prime right now, it looks more to be grey with a hue of purple to it.
I'd see why they call it "Amethyst Gray", it's not entirely purple in person compared to the images posted online.
Went to Gamestop yesterday. Looks gray to me with no hint of purple.
Don't know if the CEO they tried to say "I meant this gray" (while pointing at a color pallet). Then the engineer said yes sir.
The CEO also said "campaign gold" (while thinking about future political maneuvers...in front of a different engineer while pointing at a lighter gray on a color pallet). Then the engineers told the marketing people...you get the point.
It is an easy mistake considering English is the second language in Taiwan.

Lol..it is definitely not a translation mistake. The amethyst has a slightly purple hue and the champagne is the exact color of champagne. I'm not a huge fan of either but they nailed the naming of the colors.
@OP: No Asus is not color blind. The colors are Amethyst Gray and Champagne Gold. If you look at the Amethyst Gray tablet and know what champagne looks like, then you should know that they are nothing alike at all. Champagne Gold is less yellow than an average champagne, but it is certainly the light color name of the two.
If you got confused by these two colors, then it is entirely your fault. There's nothing 'champagne' or 'gold' about the purple-tinted dark-gray tablet and there's nothing 'amethyst' (or even gray) about the gold-tinted silver tablet
One is gray with some purple hint to it, hence the name amethyst gray, and one is silver with some gold hint to it, hence the name champagne gold.
Personally both colors are awesome and I still can't decide between the two.
I'm glad to hear that apparently I am mistaken. I'm guessing then that bad color balance or photo lighting has created some of the distinctly purple shots I've seen.
Barry is right on the money here though. I'm not going to spend $750 (including the matching keyboard) on a device that only comes in two colors, I'm going to pick the color that I like.

I don't expect it to be covered by case when I'm using it. I plan on using it almost exclusively with the dock, and I don't keep a cover on my laptop when I'm using that.
In all honesty, I don't understand people's readiness to constantly keep their phones or tablets in cases when you use them. Everybody makes such a big deal about how thin these things are, then they go and put cases on them that double the thickness.
If you want to be an early adopter and buy online without checking before that's not Asus fault.
There is like a billion pictures, an official web site and a trillions retailers that shows which color is "gray".
Retailers are at fault here, they name their product "gray" and "gold" or "gray" and "champagne", but it's still not very difficult to take 2 minutes to check what your 499$ order will look like before ordering.
id like to see pics of these devices, because it always looked slightly purple, but it was awesome still.
I had assumed i'd order the amethyst but after seeing online photos thought it was awful so took a gamble with the champagne. It'll be interesting to see what they both look like 'in the wild'.

Its comming in Black .. ???

Good find, lets hope its true
Will not be amused if this is available a week after I get the blue one.
come on guys, this is just a site that does 3d animations for phones. Did you really think that samsung would not have announced a black version?

Neither will I However I think the listing could well be a mistake colour-wise. When I was looking at pre-orders, there were a couple of places that had white or black listed as colour options, but later corrected to white or blue. I think the blue should be dark enough in real life to pass as nearly black anyway.

Looks like the blue version to me.
Looks blue to me too
looks like blues clues to me i dont know about black..you know that fruit company might sue again
Also they don't even list the blue, which is a bit strange.
I'm calling BS
According to Eldar Murtazin, later it will be available in black too.

Probably the crappy US Carrier versions.
Eldar Murtazin told me on twitter that the black version will be available for Christmas. Well, i want it so much, but i'm not going to wait :|
I have always had a black phone so ive decided this time it's gonan be different,i want the marble white SGS3 but the blue one looks really nice as well i just cant make up my mind.
Seems immeasurably stupid not to include a black version at launch. It harks back to the days of kids running around with bright red Nokia Xpress-on covers and potentially alienates a large portion of the market who want a sleek, back, professional looking phone - not a teenager's fashion accessory.
The inclusion of things like S-Voice are the kinds of things that look great in a shop but you end up never using in practice. For the same reason it boggles the mind why Samsung didn't give the option of a black version; part of the reason AMOLED screens look so impressive is the near seamless transition between black on-screen and a black bezel, made possible by AMOLED's superior contrast.
I had a very reaction when i saw the white and blue versions at the presentation. I hate white phones and thought the blue looked horribly cheap. Ive now seen a blue one in the flesh and its nothing like as bad as i feared. Its actually quite smart looking.
Many of the images of it make it look a lot lighter than it actually is. The front looks black in most lights an the pattern on the back is almost like metal.
I would still prefer a black phone though.
its the blue one!

To help you decide

Because there are not enough threads already regarding black I decided to start one . Mods you can close if you want I just want people to see this and if it is hidden in a thread no one will.
If you are having trouble deciding between black and silver let me see if I can help you out. As of this moment I love both and it is a very hard choice.
Silver has a smoother feeling in the hand. Whereas the black has a completely different feel. Also the black seems to hide the metal look to the phone, it does not stand out or have the shimmer on the bezel. The black looks like just another phone and the silver stands out as something different.
The black color seems to hide the speaker grills and makes the transition from the screen to the rest of the phone consistent. I did not see any scratches on either unit but the black seems to conceal defects (like gap issues) a lot better but if it chips the silver would be hard to hide(maybe marker)
This is the first time I would be happy with either color. I've always been a fan of black phones, I never took a second look at white phones. But this is not a choice you can make by pictures or videos. You need to get the phones in your hand. The term stealth black is perfect for the phone, it does a great job looking stealthy.
To sum it up silver will turn more heads and stands out more but black looks slick and beautiful.

Yeah, had this debate with the Wife a week ago when I picked up my H1. I was pretty set on Black but she kept saying as you said about it standing out more in Silver, and looking like every other phone in Black..Ultimately,I took her suggestion and got the Silver. Many compliments later and from my own time spent with it...I think it was the right choice.Would love to see this in Blue though.

Which color is more popular?

I'm having a hard time deciding between the Clearly White and Just Black for the Pixel 3.
Let me know what you choice is.
Thank!
I went with clearly white and I love the color (that mint power button is awesome), but the case selection has been rough. There are plenty of black and clear options. But no white cases so far... Clear works but I worry about it yellowing and/or getting scratched up over time.
See this thread

Hey,
I went with Clearly White and man that's an amazing one.
Also, the scratches are not even visible on this color, did not clean my phone once yet.
I was trying to get a review from people about Pixels but then I decided to give mine.
Let's see if Pixel 3 is worth the price.
Let me know !!!

I choose the clearly white pixel 3 and it's amazing... it's my first white phone..all my precedent phone was black.
both looks great, but I guess clearly white is the smart choice if you want the scratches on the back to be almost invisible.
me too with clearly white, not received yet

Question Anyone's Pixel 6 Seafoam not look like Seafoam?

Received P6 yesterday and disappointed to find the Seafoam looks nothing like I expected, The back is slightly off white and no where close to seafoam shown in google advertisements. Thanks
I find it has a slightly different hue in different light. Sometimes the main section on the back looks almost white. Other times it's exactly like the promo material, a soft minty green.
you are holding it wrong
sorry, couldn't resist. but I am happy with mine and sometimes it looks like in the promotional picture
I asked a few people what color they were seeing just to make sure I wasn't color blind. Its definitely white and yellow. Not the Green/Blue that the promotional articles make it look.
I'm not sure where or how people saw the promo material, but on my phone and on my PC it always looked sky blue + light neon green/yellow. To me, my P6 looks exacty like the box it came in, which looks just like what I saw online.
As OP mentioned, Pixel 6 Seafoam back-glass has a tendency to look white, but it very much tends to depend on the color temperature of the lighting. Maybe it's why Google calls it only "Sorta Seafoam"? Under warm lighting mine does match the box & most Google online renderings/photos. Probably won't matter if I put an opaque case on it anyway!
