Changing colorPrimary and colorPrimaryDark in apps - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just switched from jailbroken iOS to Android (will root as soon as my Redmi Note 5 is unlocked) and so far I am really liking it. So many things which were a hassle even with a jailbroken iPhone just work out of the box with Android.
One little thing that has been annoying me though are the colourful top bars in some applications (they are called colorPrimary and colorPrimaryDark), I wish they were just grey or white. Is there any way (once I'm rooted) to batch override all apps to display them in a certain color or at least change the value on a per app basis?

I'm sure you will enjoy creating what we call a substratum theme , this is an overlay system working with root and it is really easy to make.
If you modify manually the colorPrimary and colorPrimaryDark for every app , you'll have want you want. I know , that's long , but if you love Android , making this theme will be super funny.
Here some link to start with theming :
• My tutorial on how to theme
• Riro's how to make a substratum theme
And then you can post your work on XDA but you should know some rules , here some links :

I hope you'll forget apple and welcome to XDA

App Request: Status Bar application launcher

Hey everyone, kinda new here (although not so much to the world of smartphones and computers and all that jazz) and I'm looking for an app to provide a certain function.
I'll explain in words real quick what I'm looking for, and I posted some pics to make it easier.
I'd like an app that adds a softkey to the status bar, much like the home/back/menu buttons that I have in CM7 in the status bar (see img 1, and how it changes in img 2). I'd like to be able to click that soft button, and have a popup of some user-defined apps. I know that I can put icons on the home screen and just push the home button, but I really think this would be a cool app and would appreciate it if anyone could point me in the direction of an app like it or could make one (I do some minor java programming on BlackBerry, but nothing this complex and with my baby and internship I don't have time to figure out how to make this).
I'd definitely be willing to pay for this, so if any devs read this I'm not just looking for a freebee. Althoug, of course, free is always nice
Either way, loving the XDA forums, and need to get my post count up there so I can post in the technical threads lol.

What I imagine the softkey might look like once it's added:
One way the app popup might look:
I don;t care about the look that I made in those images as I do about the general idea.
Thanks in advance
Shane
i dont think thats probable from what i know about the android os.
Smart bar allows you to set 'favorite apps'. Good luck!
PS On appbrain it says that the latest version does not work well on froyo; I don't know about gingerbread (I have not used smart bar for a long time).
Thanks case-sensitive!
That's not exactly what I was looking for, but its good enough and will certainly do the trick

Dev wanted for tablet mode refinements

im looking for a developer with some android background who could help to implement some changes regarding per app dpi as explained here.
what this will do is break free what many have come to call "tablet mode" but this time without blowing the phone to bits. we could have the best of both worlds: tablet UI, tablet apps (gapps, settings, youtube, everything tablet HD & related) and normal apps running in their default layouts. the problem is that google created a hole between tiny phones from 2005 and big tablets. all our phones fall in it. it makes no sense that a nexus for instance runs in 1-column layout, its ridiculous actually for such a huge screen. tablet mode, as it is right now, helps, but it forces non-tablet apps into tiny layouts.
now we've had some success with our manual mod and even some dev's jumped in to adapt their apps, nova for instance is now tablet mode ready. but we just need to dig further. without per app dpi this will only be interesting for a small audience. with the setting in check it will probablby blow over and re-define ICS as we know it.
i managed to compile cm9 and im learning how to deal with it but its so much. a simple grep for stuff takes like an hour because its gigabytes of code. it grows way over my head right now. i think i've found A. the position where the treshold for the tablet switch is implemented which could be lowered and B. how to implement individual DPI but there's stuff missing. anyone who's interested to help or lead us in this, please contact me.
ps. what we'll get will look like this:

}
with that setting it could be like that on all phones, not just high density ones like nexus.
thanks!

Cool ! i like it!
Ideos-like touch key icons theme (Ideos Accents White)
- Still visible with any type of BG.
- Works best at size 70 and a transparency value of around 40.
- Made by a novice designer(me).
- Quite Simple to make.
I made a theme
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58453141&postcount=79
I made a simple theme by editing a few pictures i found online and making a few myself in ms paint. I used online-image-editor.com to add transparency too. I hope you guys like it. Actually I first made only a full white one but then as it would be invisible on a white background, i played around and made a few variations of the same thing. Use the one you like or make your own combos.
I've added a screenshot of the bordered white theme i'm using now with the size 27 and 3 pixel spacing.
I posted this in the original thread of the app. Please use the link to download them. I'm planning to use the same template and make one with black and white bands and leave all other insides and outsides transparent so that it will be even more minimalistic and still be usable in all backgrounds. I'll post that too when i do it.
I made the minimalistic one i told above about. This is the one i'll be using from now. Its more transparent, smaller filesize but still visible on all backgrounds. Feel free to mix-n-match to make your own theme.

[ICONS][OPEN-REQ] Beautiful Flat Icons

First, let me throw some FAQS.
The name of this icon style is M'Flat
This was originally made by Mushcube from DA
Yes, he shared the PSD file in his DA account. So people can create more icons for themselves since he decided to not making more of it.
I'm not attaching any of Mr. Mushcube's works. If you want to get his icon pack along with the PSD, simply go to this link: M'Flat It's his DA M'Flat post on DA
Yes, I open request for anyone who is having not much of experience with Photoshop. I would like to help you guys to make icon(s) that is not included in the pack Mr. Mushcube made (such as SoundRecorder, Tapatalk, XDA, etc)
This is NOT an Icon Pack (neither the one Mr. Mushcube made)
I do not take a single penny from this thread or from everyone. I do this for free for everyone
ENJOY!
If I left out some things important, please do tell me :fingers-crossed:

This is how it looks like mixed with Mr. Mushcube's icons and using Nova Launcher Prime

Now, if you want to request some icons. PM me
Just remember that MAX 5 ICONS for the first request :good:
Sadly, these icons are not on the PlayStore yet, moreover non-flashable. I was wondering if you could help out to make an APK of the icon pack for some 3rd-party launcher like Nova/Apex/etc, so people won't have to edit the icons manually (cause it takes REALLY long to do it manually). If you can, again, PM me!

[New Game][Free] TimesTwo - a game based on 2048

Hi everyone,
I just published (and updated) a new game called TimesTwo - it's based on the popular web game called 2048. 2048 unfortunately did not seem to work in the browser, so I decided to create a WP version. The premise is you have a 4x4 grid, and you can swipe in any direction to slide numbered tiles in that direction. If two tiles are the same number, they will combine to create a tile of twice that number, and you get points.

Once you start playing, it's easy to get the hang of it, but hard to master - I just made some tweaks based on feedback, and implemented an achievement system.
Please let me know if you have any feedback, and hope you guys enjoy! The game is free with no in app purchases, just ad supported.
Hi, your app look's really nice! But in my taste animation is kinda slow. At the start you don't need to think your moves yet so slow (slower than the original 2048 game) animation really kills my "game feeling".

Thanks mrdexal! The latest version (with achievements) should be a little faster - I understand what you're saying though. The problem is currently i count a "swipe" as when you finish the swipe motion with your finger and lift up. Eventually I'd like to get it so that the tiles start moving as you're swiping, so it's as quick as the original 2048. Thanks for the feedback!
A little hard but it;s very nice. Nice work.
