Headphones not working - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all!
I have a Huawei P20 lite and when I plug in my Logitech G231 Prodigy it doesn't recognise it and just uses the speakers. If I use a different headphone it works fine, but I really don't like these cheap things. I've heard about some app called SoundAbout, but it's not compatible with android 8. Also, the headphone works fine in my laptop + old phone & used to work on my P20 lite (which is a month old) but since today it's just not detected. Can anyone please help me out on this?

[Q]Weird headset behaviour

So, ive got this Headset from the X10 Mini Pro, which worked wonders on that device, right now ive switched from the X10 to the P500 and kept the headset, thinking it would work wonders too, little did i know, it acts quite weirdly...
The audio in them kind of works, but its not 100%, its similar to when you have your headphones not plugged all the way down, weird thing is, when you press the ansewer button, the sound gets 100% clear...
Anyone has any idea why this happens?
this happens to my sony ericsson headset too.. i guess its just how theyre built. im guessing its a mono and stereo compatibility issue. you can read it from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRS_connector
I was wondering how standard is "standard" 3.5 jack. Does "standard" means I can use any stereo headphones but still have to find compatible headset (stereo headphones + mic + one button).
From these posts I can assume that LG is not compatible with Sony. What about Nokia or iPhone? How many different implementation are there?
iphone 3G will work, 3Gs will not. there's various adapters that are available, i'v ordered one that's supposed to work for all iphone headsets, and it's got a little plastic android on it, lol! cute, but i'll see how it works. if you want to find one, just google android headset adapter. i just ordered the adapter today, i'll post later and let you know how it works. so as of right now, most headsets with just a mic and answer button should work. skullcandy ink'd is one pair that i recommend. they run about $30 CND, and they have good sound.

Mate 10 pro-headphone audio not working

Mate 10 pro was functioning normally for a couple of months before it suddenly stopped playing audio from that USB cable to headphone dongle. Whenever headphones are connected, the phone still plays audio from the phones speaker system. For some reason the phone does not register the fact that the headphones are connected to it and the headphone icon does not pop up. I've tried factory resetting the phone and cleaning out the port but the problem is still there leading me to believe that this is a software issue.
Anyone else experiencing this or has fixed this?
Hi. I'm also using mate 10 pro and same thing happened to me. It suddenly stopped working. I was given 2 headphones when i bought it but it wont recognize both. I thought it was the jack, so i tried the other headphone and still the same. It's not a port issue because phone works just fine if i connect it to my laptop.
It also started overheating and won't charge when using the original charger but works if I connect the cord to my samsung charger (this is why im sure its not the port). The battery started draining faster as well. It as working great before that. I already uninstalled some apps, run virus scan, optimise, check audio settings, check cords...
This all started happening at the same time and i don't know if anyone else is having the problem.

I had the exact same problem as you have described with my mate 10 pro. I also tried what you already have, but I didn't manage to fix it. The only thing I did not test was to flash another rom, or reflash stock, but at that time I didn't know of any others with the same problem.
I gave up and sent the phone to service where they replaced the motherboard and a flex cable (cable between the motherboard and the USB-port). Im still not sure if this is a hardware or software problem.
In my situation, I always heard a crackling sound before the music stopped, but everything was normal afterwards and this happened about approximately 8 times in a period of 2 weeks, until the last time when the music stopped and the phone experienced som sort of kernel panic and restarted. After that my phone did not recognize headphones, got hot and would not charge.
The thing is that I have experienced this one after the hardware replacement, but it did not restart and kept functioning as normal as before where I just have to start the music again, but I'm afraid that this will happen again after a couple of times.
Did you manage to find a solution?
Solved!
Solved the issue. It's a software issue. I found that when excessively used the device must go into a safe mode and stops the reverse type C from functioning. All I did was put the earphones provided with in and forcibly restarted device by holding power button for more than 10 seconds. Hope this helped!

unfortunately it's not. Today afternoon suddenly stopped. Phone is charging but not detect any headphone, even original usb-c headphone.
Not every problem is the same. Mine was a software issue. Yours may be different
So I have this problem and I have done some testing with 2 phones
Phone 1 - Mate 10 Pro Dual Sim (BLA-L29)
Phone 2 - P9 PLUS (VIE-L09)
Headphones are
Set 1 - standard USB type-c headphones (standard/original with the Mate 10 Pro)
Set 2 - standard 3.5mm jack headphones (standard/original with P9 Plus)
PLUS
usb type-c to 3.5mm jack adapter (accessory that came with Mate 10 Pro)
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Scenario 1
Connect headphones set 1 to Mate 10 Pro
Result: audio from device speakers only, nothing through headset
+
Notification saying "Supplying power to connected device over USB" and after tapping the notification setting screen states "Use USB for" - 5 options available and "Reverse Charging" is selected by default. No options available suggesting use as audio device.
Scenario 2
Connect headphones set 1 to P9 Plus
Result: audio through headphones
Scenario 3
Connect headphones set 2 to adapter to Mate 10 pro
Result: audio through headphones
Scenario 4
Connect headphones set 2 to P9 Plus
Result: audio through headphones
Scenario 5
Connect headphones set 2 to to adapter to P9 Plus
Result: audio through headphones
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
So as it stands, this makes no sense at all.
I think I have tried all the potential combinations and I'm at a loss why headphones set 1 doesn't work on Mate 10 Pro but headphones set 1 works with P9 Plus

I have identical issue as yours. Me too see have seen the Supplying power to connected etc... Have you found the solution? What did you do?
Started happening to me this morning. I've had this phone for one week ffs - and only used the usb-c to jack dongle 3 times
I saw that a lot of people have this issue with the Pixel 2 too, and apparently only since the January security update. Might be interesting to try this out with the december patch and then with the january one?
Edit: Tried the included headphones and they work. Whereas the dongle seems to move a bit in the port, but even if I push on it it's not recognized. Wish I had another USB-C phone to try the adapter with.
I talked to support and the options they gave me are to send back my phone to the nearest repair centre (at my own cost, just for an adapter), or to see with Amazon (where I bought the phone), or to try to get it repaired somewhere close. No way they would send me another adapter, even if it costs them 10 cents to produce I'm sure (ok, 12 cents if there's a DAC inside).
I knew the build quality looked cheap but I didn't expect it to die after 3 uses.
I guess I'll buy a USB-C to USB-A adapter and buy an Audioquest DragonFly too. That way I'll have good sound.
Yes, just same as urs. I have done factory reset but same story.

Hi, I've got the same problem as any of them eith a slight variation. I can't connect to my computer. Please give a more detailed instruction. I really need this fix. I don't know if I will send my phone to service or to wait for the next update. Please. We need every help we can get. Thankyou in advance
Same issue
I have the same issue .. Huawei Mate 10 Pro .. original headphone not working ... no fast charge .. and not recognized by the computer .. did you find any fix guys?
I ended up buying a USB-C to micro USB cable (from CableCreation on Amazon) and a SMSL X4 (DAC + Headphone amp) and for 50€ I can now use my headset again, with an even better sound quality and louder. And I can also plug it into my PC.
Got instantly recognized by my phone so no issues there. If you have 50€ and your usb-c/jack adapter doesn't work I highly recommend doing it.
Any solution?

I've got the same problem. Went to a HUAWEI Service Center today and they told me they've seen this before and need to replace the board containing the speaker, MIC and USB connector. Waiting for the parts to arrive now...
Same thing happened to me, but my original charger still works and still fast charges. I tried to use original earphones and a few different types of USB earphones but none of them are being recognised??? Sending my phone off to be looked at tomorrow, let you know how it goes.

Please guys does any of you have a solution to this problem? After it forced restart yesterday the type C to headphone jack adaptor isn't working and also the super charger that comes with the box, it shows the charging sign but the battery percent isn't going up. I tried using a normal apple charger it works but charges really slowly.

Problems with old headphones

Hey guys,
so i just bought the P20 lite and was quite amazed how it feels even tho that I loved my OnePlus One.
But soon i was dissapointed...
My old headphones (HyperX Cloud 2) are not working on the P20, even tho they still work on my one, pc and whatsoever.
So I called in at Huawei and they told me that I should check other headphones speakers etc.
I headed over to my pc and put in my speakers and what should I say... they worked :/
Now the question: why are my headphones not working on my p20
because old headphones use omtp, while new standart is ctia, i have same problem with oneplus 5t too, 3.5mm without microphone is not affected by this. if your phone's own headphones works, then nothing wrong with your phone. just a technological incompatibility

Does Android 9/10 restricts the use of external mic? 3 differents phone brands tested

Hi you all, I have been around google and the forum and couldn't find if there is some restriction on Android 9 or 10 for connecting an external microphone to the TRRS 35mm jack.
I know smartphones are TRRS and i have tested TRRS microphones, and also tested with a TRS microphone and TRS to TRRS adapter without not luck. Phones keep recording from their own mic, not the external.
Tested:
Huawei pot-lx1t (android 10)
Vernee X2 (android 9)
DOOGEE S40 (android 9)
None of this 3 phones worked, not with open camera app, default camera app, neither instagram/facebook.
The thing is that the same mics and adapters works fine in 2 old phones with android 6 and 4. (CUBOT Max and Samsung sm-g357fz)
I haven root any phone, do i need to or what am i missing?
I keep finding people talking about the same adapters/microphones that i already purchased several times, and still not luck.
Thanks in advance.
