Honor 10 vs LG G6 - Honor 10 Questions & Answers

Hello,
can you tell me please which phone is better ?
Im deciding about this two phones.
I love this notch display, but the LG G6 has IP68 and i think better support with android and custom roms.

Personaly i dont see any big reason for you to go for g6, ip68 and roms are not a deal breaker for me.
What you do with your phone, swim? every phone can last with some splash water on it.
And roms, yea, if you are in for that, but still i wont go.
G6 its an old phone already, sd821 its ok but its still under k970, if you are „lucky” you get it with the bad wide camera lens and its almoast useless with that feature.
Better support?i dont think so. I bet with you that only lg g7 and v30 have the last security patch available from google, and the rest are way behind.

LG G5 is imperfect but still thinking of buying it

i wanted to ask because i am thinking of buying the LG G5 for my daily use phone. I heard so much rumour that saying the LG G5 is a really bad phone. is it really that bad? It runs on qualcomm 820 which is quite amazing. Is the built quality is so bad? and the most biggest concern is the bootloop issue. Is it even happening? i am a little confuse because only LG offer the phone that have the specs i want for example the expansion slot and the battery being removable. so give some opinions to it.
I've had my G5 (unlocked european H850) since early May - no quality issues, no bootloops, no problems at all. :good:
At first I DID regret having bought it because it looked like we'd never get proper custom roms - but now we have them and all is good
Non of the issues you have mentioned are present in G5... it's one of the fastest Android devices with great camera. The build quality is very good... and no bootloop issues at all... just buy h850 eu version (unlockable bootloader)
The G5 is underrated by the mainstream, but I really haven't see anybody writing that it is bad.
Get the G5 or the V20
Gonna be honest, the phone is a beast. Especially with nougat.
Tho the build quality is good. The only thing that I noticed is that the chin at the bottom which can loosen up in time, but with a cover you won't notice it. So it's just a detail thing.
The camera and speaker are amazing, the display rocks and the fingerprintscanner on the back is well placed.
Haven't had any bootloops since I got the phone!
The current price for this flagship should be a dealbreaker if you ask me
If you've any questions pm me!

Which Phone Do I Get?

Recently I dropped my S5 and cracked the screen. I was running LineageOS and I thought about getting a new phone. I'm currently looking at the Galaxy S7 Edge from last year, and the LG G6 from this year. The S7 is pre-owned, while the G6 is brand new. They cost about the same per month. Which one should I go with? Which is one better supported by LineageOS? One thing I'm really worried about is the camera quality. Will the quality decrease as it did on my S5? I would like to keep the 120fps and 240 recording haha.
Well, i definitely would recommend the G6.
First of all i must say i hate samsung for there touchwiz OS but this can be solved by installing a rom.
But i feel Samsung devices get really slow after a while. In my opinion they are just made to survive 2 years.
I recently own the LG G6 but i must say i really like this phone . It's really fast, has a nice camera and i love the looks of it. For me it's a 100% clear go on the G6.
Good luck with your journey to buying a new phone!

You can always get your screen replaced if you want to keep your S5.
The LG G6 smokes the S5 in all categories, it's not even close.
I'd definitely recommend a brand new LG G6 all day over a used S7.
The camera is great and the phone itself is in competition with the S8 not the S7.
If I'm not mistaken, only the h870 and us997 versions of the G6 can have their bootloaders unlocked for Custom Roms. I don't think any of the S7s are unlockable.

Ah, I see. I'm gonna go with the LG G6 anyway. I was on the fence about flashing LineageOS or any other stock rom for the moment, as the camera quality usually goes down a lot haha. I don't think the LineageOS build for the G6 has OIS or 60/120 fps recording?
Go for G6
Purchased G6 a week ago only.
In love with the phone. The camera and the display is what will make u fall in love even more.
In hardware side it's a bit outdated compared to 2017 standards but it won't let u feel OUTDATED.
So go for a G6 :fingers-crossed: :victory:
I recently own the LG G6 but i must say i really like this phone because its specification are very suitable . It's really fast, has a nice camera and i love the looks of it.

V30 or Pixel

So far they look about even in hardware specs and while the US998 model will likely feature an unlockable bootloader, is it worth it compared to the Pixel's dev support?

Pixel XL 2017 won't have headset jack, reportedly. Even though Google made fun of Apple for dropping theirs, and even though LG can do IP68 WITH a headset jack while Apple (so far, with iPhone 7) can only do IP67 without one.
There's really NO reason to drop the headset jack. You STILL have Bluetooth -- even with headset jack -- if you want to use ear pods or whatever. It's not either/or. Just like Qi wireless charging. I use Qi wireless when I can, but yeah sometimes I plug in. It's nice to have both options.
If dev support is you number one priority Pixel will always be the better choice. However you seem to be loosing so many features by going with the Pixel.
Depends what's important to you.
Audio: HiFi audio and headphone jack important then the V30 is the only real option
Camera: Manual mode, features and wide angle or a likely excellent auto camera?
Storage: Expandable storage yes or no.
Look and design: I think the V30 is a nce looking device the Pixel not 100% sure yet.
OS: Is stock android and faster update important to you? Same with dev support.
I don't think it that hard once you think about what's important to you. For me it's the V30 over the pixel all day.

Probably no quad DAC either.
Therefore, no thanks.

Yes, the U.S. and European carrier unlocked versions will be eligible for official LG bootloader unlock. REAL bootloader unlock, not the "faux" bootloader unlock the T-mobile LG G6 got. Six months later there's still no root nor TWRP nor custom ROMs that can be flashed on T-mobile LG G6, while there's tons of dev work on the U.S. and European "carrier unlocked" LG G, which got REAL bootloader unlock.
You can check the list here and it will be updated when the LG V30 carrier unlocked versions are released.
LG Developer - Unlock Bootloader -Supported Devices
http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
The U.S. carrier unlocked version will be LG V30 US998.USA
And yes the "carrier unlocked" LG G6 US998 will have LTE band 71. T-mobile confirmed it.
Google Pixel 1 was a retarded device (see nexus 6 design, it was 100 times better and with less bezels)
Google pixel 2 seems to be retarded also, BUT Pixel 2 XL seems to have a nice design with small bezels but no audio jack HAHA (copying apple eh?)
If they don't put something like dual camera wide angle, front facing autofocus 2/4k camera and super mega large battery, then they can keep that thing;
still here in europe they don't sell pixel 1, so no one will give a **** about pixel 2
sad to say, but samsung is doing a really great job with their S8/+ phones

They are selling well. They've always had an issue with 3rd party audio apps streaming Bluetooth with the track data to other devices though - For me at least. Audio volume and quality is something I dislike with Samsung too. And for the s8 and s8+,I hate bixby and that stupid dedicated button. I don't have the need to talk to a virtual assistant. /rant
I'd go with Pixel XL 2. It it will always be running latest OS. However if you care about camera and audio then V30 is the way to go. For me the pixel xl had a great camera and Pixel XL 2 will excell that. Nothing to worry about. I love the design of the V30 however long term use the Pixel XL 2 is a definitely better option. I'm currently using the XZ Premium which I'm very happy with coming from Samsung. My next phone would be pixel though. Also you might want to wait for the Mate 10 which would be another beast.
I'm sort of torn between Pixel XL2 and LG V30. If you want dev support, Pixel all the way. There is no way to know in which circumstances the V30 will get an unlockable bootloader.
Coming from a Xperia Z2 and later a Xperia Z5, I have a bitter taste in my mouth. If you unlocked your bootloader, you'd delete your TA partitions (which enabled Sony's propriatery camera functions). So despite selling amazing camera hardware to many phone companies, and supposedly using the best on their own phones, you'd get a ****ty camera performance when you had a rooted phone.
LG makes me quite cautious on this matter. Yes we have a 1.6" aperture which will let in more light in dark conditions, but we have a smaller sensor as well. Instead of hardware developments we see a lot of software -gimmicks or features- however you'd want to name them. If i lose any of those features/gimmicks on an open bootloader on a custom rom, or a different camera app I'd be furious. I don't want a locked down and forced software covering bad quality (like Samsung's over saturation of everything, not that they have bad hardware) Pre-release software V30's don't always seem to be doing fantastic on image processing (and sometimes they're amazing) and even though they are pre-release specimens I'd hate to have another gamble with this.
Pixel on the other hand, seems like it'll have a huge sensor. That'll be hard to **** up with software (even though it was Pixels amazing camera firmware that gave it those amazing shots). Honestly, I don't care about a second camera on my phone. I want a proper main camera and thats it. IF and only IF my phone is going to have two cameras, I'd like to have them in "Wide>Monochrome>telephoto" order. IF i have to. That is why I'm going with the V30 and not the Note8 (that, and the 6" sweet spot on the small bezel screens. Anything below 6" seems to narrow, and anything above 6" seems too big and a waste of battery considering the smaller batteries they come with because of the smaller body)
I love the Quad DAC, and I love the headphone jack, but I'd rather have a stereo speaker setup. I often find myself connecting to my car bluetooth or a bluetooth speaker if I'm on a camp or something. Hell I'll just keep a pair of wireless headphones on me. Which is why I don't lament the loss of a replacable battery. I have tons of rechargeable items on me at any time now. So I'd rahter just carry a powerbank and charge anything, instead of replace the battery on my phone.
Wireless charging is one of those things where you don't know how much you needed them until you have them. So I'd like that as well.
I can go forever on this. (I feel like I already have)
So to sum it up:
Dev support: Pixel
Multimedia consumption/creation: V30 (unless the camera ****s up massively)
For me it'll be V30 most likely, for the DAC and jack (and then design). One of the unlocked ones, so that hopefully I can root and get rid of whatever bloat it comes with and restore it to the closest stock experience possible. I'm not too hopeful on custom ROMs though as I think the DAC won't be supported for some time (will it ever? not sure the V20 ROMs ever got it?).

Yes there is. The U.S. and European "carrier unlocked" LG V30 versions will be eligible for bootloader unlock, just like with LG G6, V20, LG V10, LG G5, LG G4, etc.
Go look at this pattern:
http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
And stay away from carrier stores. T-Mobile proved with the LG G6 and Samsung models this year they are no longer dev friendly.
But I do agree with your other comments about no stereo speakers. LG missed an opportunity.
I also agree about Qi wireless charging. I won't buy a phone without it.

I did read your original post regarding this, and makes a lot of sense.
What I meant to say was that we don't know if we'll lose any functionality by unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom rom. I say this because of my history with the Xperia Z series. I know LG didn't do something like this before, but there was a lot of software focus on the presentation. Some of it might be tied down to LG's original rom.
The lack of stereo speakers in such an audio-centric device bother me a lot honestly. I mean there is already a speaker placed up there for calls. Just make it a little higher in quality. Sure it won't be boomsound unless they spend more money on it and lose profits, but we'd atleast be able to understand where a certain sound is coming from. A ton of songs use stereo effects, let alone videos.
And as a last point, we don't have carrier-branded phones where I live so I'm safe on that regard. But like you said, if we had them, I wouldn't touch them with a ten feet pole.

Ah, I mis-read your post then. "There is no way to know in which circumstances the V30 will get an unlockable bootloader", I thought you meant which situations LG would allow it. You meant what complications would come with that.
You are correct. Last year, the ZTE Axon 7 -- the one with the award-winning quad DAC and excellent front-facing speakers (cough, LG should have done that) -- made a decision to have a user-unlocked bootloader. BUT ZTE kept their quad DAC code under lock and seal. It was proprietary. So, while users could root the phone, with CM/Lineage custom ROM, there were lots of audio issues for months. Audio was badly distorted. Finally CM/LOS dev and others got that distortion under control, but I'm still not sure they are able to let custom ROMs use the quad DAC the way the stock firmware does. (I stopped keeping track about six months ago.)
As a result, many users stuck with stock firmware for best experience. Yes, it could still be rooted, and yes there's Gravity Box you can use with stock firmware so you can use the quad DAC functionality. And yes the ZTE Axon 7 still had the exact same 5.5" AMOLED 1444p display the Pixel XL had. But you lost all that great audio functionality if you installed custom ROM. (At least for several months, I don't know the current situation.)
So, you are right. There's tons of magic in this LG V30 (audio and camera), but depending on if LG lets devs have access to that, it's possible custom ROM experience would suffer.
Feels like the whole Nexus 5 vs LG G2 saga all over again.
I had both and while the Nexus 5 was way smoother than the G2, the G2 was by far the better phone as they cut way too many corners on the Nexus 5. :crying:
Will be interesting to see how this one pans out.
Personally, I'd go for the V30. Don't buy this whole, "Courage," crap and bet the battery in the Pixel 2 wont be as good as the V30. Thinking about USB type C, if only they'd designed the port to be round.

Plus, you don't even know what the Pixel 2017 will have. Yes, it will probably have a very good camera ALSO.

Which one should i choose Lg G6 again or go for the V30?

Hello to everyone! i'm new posting on xda but, this forum has always been my reference in phones since almost 10 years and until today i've never needed to post anything because everything I was looking for was already answered
But today is different, to put ourselves in context I own a LG G6, I LOVE the phone, but yesterday, the camera glass cracked like a cookie, at night in a table, alone, for no reason, and Amazon refunded the money to me, so I was planning to buy another LG G6, when I found the V30. With the refund a new LG G6 would be 100€ less (than what I paid initially) and the V30 about 120€ more.
And thats my question, i've been looking all the videos, checking the reviews, comparisions, everithing... but i'm right where I started, I don`t know what to do.
One of my biggest fears with the V30 is de OLED screen, i had a Nexus 6, and the screen went burned in and yellowish, and thats not something that i want to repeat, i've seen some images of the pixel 2 XL with less than 6 months and they looks awfull, the V30 seems to have the same screen but i could not founth anything about it... (besides, I really like the G6 screen)
I really like the G6, it's almost the perfect phone for me, size, specifications... but i think that if I pick the V30 i could end winning in quality and support.
The rest of the specs are obviously better, Quad DAC (pretty interesting), better glass and sensor in rear camera, bigger screen, processor and capacity...
can you give me a hand?
Thanks a lot
My opinion is the V30 is what the LG G6 SHOULD have been. 64GB storage, Qi wireless, quad DAC -- in all the phones, not "regionalized" specs.
Plus dual rear cameras with an IMPROVED wide angle lens, etc.
Even in design, the G6 was the prototype for the V30. The V30 has more "finished" aesthetic.
Also, Snapdragon 835 vs 2016 Snapdragon 821.
LG V30 has software to prevent burn in that apparently the 2017 Google Pixel 2 XL doesn't have. It's mentioned in one of the articles I read.

Final thoughts
There you have it, our look at the LG V30 vs LG G6. It should be clear to anyone looking at these two devices, that the V30 offers the superior experience. It just has more features and better specs, and it’s arguably a nicer-looking phone than the LG G6. It took them a while, but it looks like LG has finally hit gold. Let’s just hope customers will reward them by opening up their wallets.

If you can get the LG V30 open market US998, you can even unlock the bootloader and root. Or at the very least, use it on any carrier you wish. Ah, you mentioned Euros. So, you want the H930 (V30) or the H30G (V30+). That's the European equivalent of the open market US998, eligible for bootloader unlock.

iI've placed the order to Amazon (the H930) it should arrive this week, if it's as good as i've been reading, the v30 should be amazing
Yeah man, there is no doubt, the v30 is superior in every way. They took what was good about the g6 and added that to the content creation stuff the V series has to offer.

Yes it sucks, but looking at LG's previous flagships, I'm not even surprised, and I did not have high expectations. Nevertheless I'm almost certain that we'll get pie somewhere in 2019. I bought my g6 because it was cheap, had a high quality build and a stellar camera. However, I do miss stock android on my nexus 5x, and if we won't get any news about pie until Q3, then I'll probably root my phone and install a custom rom.

i dont know what phone you came from before your G6 but saying G6 have "stellar camera", men, you are so wrong. i can say thats my old V10 have better camera quality in photo and video than my G6 from far far away, G6 have a better screen with HDR and thats what mask the quality of the photos...and they are OK, not stellar.
Video from G6 its the worst i ever see in a high end phone, ridiculous over sharpened imagedestroy all the quality on videos...its a gorgerous device but in cameras my V10 do better for sure.
Now, talking about Pie, we will get it, maybe mid-July or after July until December this year yeah, cause G7, V30, V40 are first to this update roadmap by device age thats make sense...but yes we gonna get it, sooner or later...
hope to see some UI/UX changes like volume slider on the side instead of top and so little changes like that will bring to this device another life.

I came from the nexus 5x, and I have not tried the camera om the LG V10, but it's hard for me to belive, that it's better than that of the g6. After I started using gcam, the photos began to look great. Although I do agree that the video sucks on the g6, however I don't use my phone to record videos. The only real complaints I have with the g6 are the slow updates and the terrible battery life.
Anyways back to the topic, I do agree with you, and I hope we'll see LG make some UI changes, because I'm quite frankly tired of how the UI looks. But knowing LG, they'll probably do a security patch, make the navbar icons more rounded and call it a day.

lol with which custom rom ? the roms that are there, are just as bad how lg his update plans to Pie
Seriously there would be good custom rom, and many here have stopped developing for the G6 custom roms
I concur the camera sucks unless you are outdoors.
My camera works fine indoors and I almost never use the flash. Having said that, I don't think we are getting Pie and I frankly don't care. The phone works fine as is and there is nothing in Pie that I really need. Updating just introduces other problems.

If the g6 gets android pie they'll update the UI to the lg g7 UI cause for lg every 2nd major update they update the UI to the latest. Like the g3 when it got android 6.0 the UI got updated to UX 4.0 (lg g4 UI) or the lg g5 getting updated to android 8.0 it got UX 6.0 (lg g6 Oreo UI)
