How did you do that?
Can you provide proof like with LTE Discovery screenshot?
If true, you're going to be a hero and cause a lot of excitement...
Even with root and "enabling" via T-Mobile network hidden menu, no one in the past few months could get LTE band 71 to actually be used on US998. We gave up.

@guytano86 should use Network Signal Guru since they state they are rooted. It should present the most accurate, and complete info.

I am just chiming in for the band 71 chat as ChazzMatt answered the OP in post #2. I have the same set up and it works well.

So...have we cleared up the discrepancy about whether or not band 71 works on the us998 model?
---------- Post added at 03:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:45 PM ----------
Also, anyone know the difference between models us998 and us998u? I'm looking to get a used one from eBay but it appears people use these model numbers synonymously. And us998 is the us Cellular version...and locked version as well? Huh?
(BTW my goal: I have TMobile and really want a rootable phone that will work on band 71 with wifi calling - are we there yet?)
Thanks everyone! Amazing community we have here!!

OnePlus 6 meets that requirement. Then next month the Pixel 3 will be out with B71 already confirmed and will be unlockable.
Maybe the Moto Z3 Play, E5 Play/Plus (only the versions sold by TMobile) can be bootloader unlocked but not sure.

Yeah, but he wants a premium phone.
Like with IP68 (or ANY IP rating), Qi wireless charging, QHD 1440P resolution.
OnePlus is a pretender, not a real premium phone.

@ChazzMatt I've seen your name pop up quite a bit about this band 71 functionality, but haven't read anywhere you personally ever got it to work. Yet in this thread 2 people claim they got it to work. Any updates? Have you ever gotten it to work or seen actual evidence others have? Thank you kindly!

I don't use T-mobile, I use AT&T so the T-mobile Band 71 wouldn't show with my SIM card. AT&T doesn't use Band 71 and I have no roaming on the AT&T Prepaid plan I use.
I do know we cannot flash T-mobile modem as I was hoping, due to the different RSA encryption LG/T-mobile mandated for the H932 (different from all the other North American variants, for some reason).
But yes, others say they have gotten Band 71 on rooted US998, with T-mobile SIM card using various tricks like the Shortcut Master Lite, etc. I have no way of confirming what they say.

I unlocked more LTE bands on VS985

I unlocked some others LTE bands on VS985, I tried other tips from Sony Xperia forum with no success and now just with hiddenmenu it work, for that:
1. Download Shortcut Master (lite) from play store
2. Top right -> App Explorer ->Verizon Hidden Menu
3. go to -> LTEBandSelection tap and select Launch
4. Now choose all Bands and Save and reboot
Need ROOT
That's all
This sounds cool in theory, but I'm skeptical. Not every VZW LTE tower uses every band. Different locations may even require specific bands. I'm not sure of the implementation details but our modems negotiate connections with towers, and this includes which band and channel within the band to use. If you enable all bands all the time, you're making your phone scan more frequencies, which takes more time and therefore increases battery usage.

No, not all bands, only 2 bands, BANDS 3/7 which it's the most used in europe
Do you get signals on these bands? Could just have software support because most of the software is shared between versions, but not have hardware support at all.

No for this app you need root. You should just root. Its very easy and will allow you to activate the other bands.
This thread/mod isn't getting much play it seems. Is there really any benefit from this in the US? Or will it drain battery looking for the other bands?
Works good
Thank you so much for sharing :good:
I am using vs985 verizon in pakistan. Service provider is warid. Coustomer service told me that they're offering 4g on band 3, 1800mhz
So i unlocked band 3 by using this method. works like a charm
Thanks again
Good looks on this! I did it for the hell of it. Might as well have all 4 bands selected

Very good question...!!
Here is a link to LTE bands by country/region if anyone needs/wants it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
It's wikipedia though, so it may not be 100% accurate.
Ok but what bands does this actually unlocked vs those already in us for a specific region...
I ask this b/c in my limited theory, one could unlock said bands and theoretically use the phone on diff bands/carriers without having to go thru the hassle of 'begging' for a carrier unlock, correct? Essentially you could create your own carrier unlocked and/or international compatible G3... But I may be completely ass backwards wrong.... lol

The vs985 is already carrier unlocked, but I get what you're asking. And I think that, yeah, if you know the bands in the country/region you're in you can unlock those bands to get 4g working there. Post #14 is a good example of that. I believe bands 3 and 7 are used for global lte, which would be why his/her carrier told him to use band 3 for lte in Pakistan.

Hey here's my thread.... I have an unlocked AT&T V30 on T-mobile. No VoLTE at this point, but I plan on trying to mess with the Build.Prop to see if I can get it working. I had to mess around to get the tethering working, and I have not had much luck making it persist after a reboot, but I found an app that makes editing a bit easier.
What else? Umm, oh yeah, updates.: I am still on the November security update and have not had a ton of luck getting the January one. I am worried about that happens when oreo drops - I am assuming I will have to get my hands on an AT&T sim at that point.
You know about band 71 already.
No wifi calling... but I do not use that anyway.
Yea Oreo already dropped. You can probably update via LG Bridge. I'm selling mine. I had two but sold one so far. I bought new TMobile variants.

Unlocked LS998 and ATT bandwidth

Hi all,
First I want to thank all of you guys for the V30 posts. You guys helped me pick this phone with confidence as I had not found a proper replacement to my dear Nexus 5.
I just bought an unlocked LS998 at BnH and before flashing it to US998 I tried the Google speed test with my ATT SIM card.
I had between 6 to 9mbps up ( same down) while my current phone (HTC10) is showing 22 to 25mbps.
Same SIM card and same location.
Is this because I am missing att bands? I notice band 1(2100) was missing vs the HTC or the US998.
I believe the hardware itself should be an upgrade from the 2016 HTC 10 Cat9.
Thank you,

I'm not clear. Are you still on LS998? Or US998?
Also depends on what ATT band you're trying to use. Band 5 is slow like that. It's just supplemental to the main LTE bands.

Not easily, but using LTE Discovery app you can see the band being used.
Any reason you haven't already flashed to US998?
AFTER bootloader unlock and root, your can even turn it into ATT H931, if you wish.

No particular reason except that I am at work and got my phone during my lunch break
Also I wanted to read more before starting any modification (warranty and IMEI registration on LG for instance).
I am still a noob in terms of smartphone but looking at your comment and what I have read in this forum I understand that the hardware is the same between the US998/LS998/H931 and that you can "unlock" specific band by flashing the phone. Which reassures me in chosing the LS998 $50 cheaper than the US998.
Thank you very much.
Actually in the settings hardware info it's already showing LG-US998....
The box says LS and it was sold as unlocked LS on B&H... I'm confused now...

Well, technically it is now "unlocked" LS998, since it now has US998 firmware.
Did they flash it to Nougat US998 or Oreo US998?

LS998 > US998 V30+ not working on Jio LTE in India :/

I'm a little confused as to why I am currently having this issue.
I'm on 20H US998 firmware currently in India and have unlocked band 40 using the T-Mobile hidden menu so theoretically I should be able to get full LTE coverage around India on this device but I am not able too.
My theory is that the US version of the V30 doesnt actually have the required firmware to operate on Jio with LTE at all.
I've verified this by flashing Lineage OS and getting the same issue.
SIM detected, jumps on network, no LTE = no VoLTE
Before you tell me I have the APN settings skewed im 99% sure I am right on that, however if anyone has any settings they would like me to try I would be happy too as currently I'm using my iPhone SE and I miss my 1440p OLED when I'm out and about

Jio VoLTE only works on two firmware -- ESA (India) H930DS and recent EU H930. I've only heard it working on H930DS phone, while using one of those two firmwares.
Just because you "unlocked" a band in hidden menu doesn't mean it's actually working. Same with unlocking the T-Mobile LTE band 71 on rooted US998.

Jio uses LTE bands 3, 5, 40. You're not going to get LTE band 40 on the US998, but you can get LTE bands 3 and 5. If you are in area where Jio has LTE bands 3 and 5, you should get a regular data connection. Do you live in an area where Jio uses only LTE band 40?

I don't think you understand. I'm able to get service where other devices I own are connecting to 3, and 5. However, the LTE icon never shows, preventing me from getting LTE connectivity altogether. I'm observing the same behaviour with my US SIM card which shows bars, but once more no LTE.

That sounds like an authorization issue, with Jio. Where you can see bars but not actually connect it's because the carrier is not letting you connect.

Cell Signal: V20 vs V30 vs G7 ThinQ

I currently have a LG V20. Where I work is probably 3 miles from a Verizon tower. We have very weak signal out here, and sometimes I can't even get texts for a while.
Which of these 3 phones have the best cell reception?
Depends on the Verizon bands available in your area!
If Verizon have band 46/66 support in the area, V30/G7 will be better. Otherwise they are probably gonna be all the same.

Yes. OR if Verizon soon adds support for these bands where you live
And that's because the V20 can NOT receive those bands but V30/G7 can.
Like back when AT&T started adding LTE band 5 all over the country as a supplemental band, in addition to 2, 4, 17 (now called 12). You needed a newer phone or you never saw LTE band 5... Was used in areas of congestion.
Since this is the V30 forum, my vote is on the V30 of course.

If you keep it on while you drive, it will keep a record of all bands you lock onto.
You can also use it while standing still to see what band is near where you are, of course.
CDMA SHUTDOWN
Also be aware that in six months (December 31, 2019) Verizon is dropping 3G CDMA -- so all you will have is 4G LTE. To make phone calls you will need either LTE VoLTE or Wi-Fi calling.

Somehow the ZTE Axon 7 (not even a Verizon device) has Verizon VoLTE on Lineage. (Or did a couple years ago. Have not checked recently.) It was a mystery the dev either could not explain or did not want to explain, at that time.
