Xiaomi Redmi or Mi phone problems or just rumors? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi XDA guys!
Everybody knows that Mi series goal is to be better than Redmi at least in specs and performance.
But how about performance to price ratio, how about all other things that You dont worry and dont expect in REDMI casue it's cheap but You do expect it in the MI series?
What are the problems/things that You don't like in MI series?
What are the problems/things that You don't like in REDMI series if there is any? WHY? Cause we all know not to expect wonders for a low budget priced phones.
I've talked to many people who had/have REDMI and MI series Xiaomi phones (clients, selllers, internet folks, friends) and they only agree on ONE thing -the price is great wheter it is REMI or MI phone.
A strange thing happens.... REDMI owners are always satisfied. The only thing that bothers not all of them is the camera quality.
But in low and middle price segment REDMI beats EVERY other BRAND.
Xiaomi has also great prices in the high end flagship models but here MANY PEOPLE are dissapointed.
For example camera quality, screen quiality, body, bezel, bugs, no NFC, no european B20 LTE band.
The MI users also tell me that non of the above bothers them but something totaly different. EACH person = an original problem with MI device.
Can You please tell me what are Your problems/dislikes with MI and REDMI devices cause I'm about to buy one from each segment?
What should I worry about (Android updates maybe?) buying a REDMI and a MI phone IN YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIANCE?
Don't get me wrong. I never had a MI phone but in shops they perform GREAT so I wonder what's the fuss is about?

Welcome to Xiaomi Redmi series, aka the flagship killer.
The phones have the same parts as the flagships the only difference is that Xiaomi doesn't waste their money on advertising and doesn't steal huge profits from the customers so you get a better price.
Enjoy your new Xiaomi phone and welcome to the future.

When is Xiaomi Mi note 2 released ?

Right now, I have seen many xiaomi smartphones released, such as Xiaomi Mi4c, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 prime, but these are just the mid range smartphones of Xiaomi, not like the high end smartphone, Xiaomi MI NOTE, and i also get rumors about Xiaomi Mi Note 2.
Here are the main features:
All Metal Body
5.7-inch Sharp sourced 2560 x 1440 2K display
Snapdragon 820
4GB RAM (at least) and 32GB memory
16 mega-pixels is on the cards.
So when Xiaomi Mi note 2 released on earth? I would like to try to make the review and compare with Xiaomi Mi note. This is the really high end i want to appreciate.
Any news?
Then you may have better luck on the miui site. This OEM is not really a big thing here.
cant wait for this phone!

The biggest difference besides hardware is updates. Redmi devices usually only get one major update for example the note 4x was released with 6.0 and then got 7.0 but will never officially see anything higher. Although I don't find that a big issue because MIUI rom gets security updates and features from higher android version added. Also most devices get updated MIUI versions for example note 4x released with MIUI 8 then got 9 and now 10 is slowly becoming available. Also wifi hardware is subpar on redmi devices. Again I will use the note 4x for example. It does not have 802.11ac and using 802.11n you are capped at 150MB/s and 2.4 ghz band doesn't do 2 channel bonding unless you have root and edit the proper files.
Camera quality I can't really say much about. I am not a big picture taker and what I do take seems fine.
If you are concerned about radio bands then there really is only one choice. The MI Mix has pretty much every band you could ever want.

So REDMI get less Android uprades than MI series.
The LTE bands are slowly beginning to be a no issue as more and more devices get the whole Global LTE bands.
Redmi's or hongmi's are the low to mid-range smartphones and the MI's are the mid to high-range smartphones and flagships..
So go with the Mi's but phones like the Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note 5 Pro, the New Redmi 6 series and the old Redmi Note 4(Qualcomm) arent bad either.
Phones you got to avoid are the Redmi Y2/S2 due to terrible software decisions(it runs a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit CPU! like the old Redmi 2 series) and if you wanna develop for a device, avoid the Redmi Note 3(Qualcomm) due to the community being a little meh.

I've heard the exact same thing form a reliable source so it must be true what you're telling me about MI and REDMI in general.
Redmi Y2/S2 terrible software(?! software!?) specs is new to me.
It is disturbing tho causue Redmi S2 is a good phone on paper (perfANDstuff/price ratio) yet You tell me to watch out. This is bad.
Also Redmi Note 5 has probably (heard rumors) some issues, the most recurring one is with the camera mode - unfortunatly one user delivered the XDA community an info stating that it might not be a soft issue but a hardware issue (same error happens on stock and on custom rom).

It is new but due its software being 32-bit, you are not using it in full potential
Still you can build 64-bit LineageOS or port 64-bit MIUI from Redmi 6 Pro

That is what I wrote in the topic. I wrote there also my quesion(s). But thanks for participating

Is this phone a good choice?

Hello dear XDA Experts
Which Xiaomi phone shall I buy (in Europe) that will be the most popular Xiaomi device for a long time (people will talk about it and buy it for a long time), have the longest support and have many and many custom roms made even after pulling it off the market and most of all custom rom Devs will love it?
Any answer is welcome to help!
BTW Do these devices met the above criteria? (Redmi Note 5 (Pro or non Pro, remember Europe), Pocophone F1, Redmi Note 6 (if it is available in Europe))
Flagship is what you are asking for, you should decide upon your needs because it is unfair to put the devices you mentioned in a comparison.

If it were SPECS differences that I'm looking for then yes but I'm looking for not SPECS but something else (I wrote it in the topic).
Why is it unfair? Is it because You think that POCO is a flagship?
But Thank YOU very much for a reply sir!
Probably A2

Dude, really?
I'm a bit shocked cause in Europe the sales of A1 and A2 with all it's variants were nothing compered to Redmi Note 5 (Pro)
Thanks for answering but please tell my why would You pick A2 and which variant?
get the poco, or the note 5 (whyred). But I'd suggest poco because it's better, newer and more popular.
This forum is for Redmi 5 plus (vince)
Also. Redmi series are midrange devices with lower prices, poco is a flagship device with a midrange price. If you can afford poco, go for it. People are crazy about it now.

I am considering POCO but imagine that in Europe my native tribe has nowhere POCO in mall shops or dedicated electroncis shops. The only way to get it is by ordering online (not from China).
However, the RN5 (whyred) is widely spread in every shop. The online shops have always some percantage off the price of that phone. The sales of this model is beating every sale that both kind of shops had and thay can't keep up with supplying the overwhelming demand. So I think because RN5 (whyred) is so popular that it will get much more custom roms than any other phone. For POCO is to early to see cause they don't have it in local stores.
nah. devs will soon move on from RN5. Most custom rom devs are from Asia anyway so availability in Europe is irrelevant. Just check their XDA sections for both and see.

Did I understand You correctly?
The current situation is that in XDA's CUSTOM ROM section of RN5 (whyred) has less custom roms than the XDA's CUSTOM ROM section of POCO?

Should I Switch to Mi 9 ?

Title says it all pretty much. Is it worth it to switch? I just want to have full screen experience (teardrop notch is way better than this one ) . I was also thinking of Mi mix 3 because of true bezel-less display but Mi 9 has SD855 and great camera ,that's why I'm tilting towards it (We don't have Mi mix 3 5G here)
You should at least wait another generation that will be about 6 months. Totally not worth it yet. The Pocophone is quite powerful and there is absolutely no benefits for buying a mix 3 and Mi 9, more likely you will be annoyed of the less innovation later on.

If you were to change...

Hi folks I just shattered the screen of my Redmi Note 3 SD version (RN3). I had this phone since early 2016 and though it's still working and I could prolly do a service job on it for $50 and extend its life to a year or so I feel sticking to this phone any further wouldn't be to my advantage.
So I'm in the market for a new phone and I would really love to hear your precious advise so I may get the best available option for my hard earned bucks.
My budget is around $350. I'm not a brand fan boi, I don't mind going for unknown brands if the build quality is there. B/C with a good build quality you can get the best out of your phone under XDA. So when I go for a smartphone the features I pay attention to are:
1-If the phone can handle recent games. If a phone can handle recent games odds are high that it will perform well in everyday life.
2-It must have a great community under XDA so that if the manufacturers aren't arsed to push updates, you can still get the best out of your phone by for e.g flashing a custom rom or the Google cam or flash the latest security patch and so on.
3-The camera specs should be good (not expecting pixel3 stuffs or p30 results), but should be able to take good shots when I go on road trips.
Having said that, phones that have caught my eye so far are the Huawei Y9(2019 version) and the Xiaomi Poco Phone F1. So what do you lads think!
The Huawei Y9 is out as per your stated requirements as they don't even allow bootloader unlocking. There might be unofficial methods. Poco F1 looks to be the best choice but I don't know if the initial issues like backlight bleeding, touch latency etc have been fixed. Redmi Note 7 Pro is another decent option but the price difference between its 6GB model and Poco F1 base variant is too little. Realme has opened up BL unlocking but the pace of development doesn't seem very encouraging. Otherwise the Realme 3 Pro appears to pack solid hardware. Dunno when the Poco F2 will be launched.

Thanks for input. I though pretty much the same Poco F1 would be the best option!

Wait for Mi A3 . not sure its launching date. it is android one device. Bootloader unlocking is very easy for android one phone.
Updates will given by google and not xiaomi. Also u will get 3 android updates. Spec will be same like rn7 pro.
Or buy rn7 pro. It has QC 4.0 charging and 4000mah battery.
From Kenzo, I used Tissot which is Mi A1 and now lavender which is Redmi Note 7.
Redmi Note 7 aka lavender as of now has very minimal development going on based on xda threads available. But the good thing is that it supports treble so gsi will provide you with a lot of custom rom and me myself is using a GSI now. Violet aka Note 7 Pro on the other hand has a better development than lavender. It has great camera too considering you are using gcam to full utilize the camera and also lavender's camera is Greta as well but not as good as violet. Lavender has Snapdragon 660 and violet has Snapdragon 675.
