Alternatives to Firmware Finder - Honor 10 Questions & Answers

Hello, since Firmware Finder cannot enforce updates anymore, is there any alternative that does not require root? Honor really sucks at delivering updates, in FF I can see version 8.1.0.143 while I'm still on 131, this was always a pain in the ass for Honor devices but previously I always thought "who cares, I can force it via FF", well now I do care and this will be my last Honor device if I can't get the updates to work.
Thanks for any advice.

I just hate people like you who keep trowing dirt at companies for this sh*t about updates.
143 was just released, not long ago, cant you have patience a bit?you have the previous version, so at what do they suck?you have june or july sec update i bet.

I'm sorry but if someone like Apple were to announce an iOS update for a specific day, you would expect it to be available on that day and it most likely would be. Honor told us that the update would be on August 3rd for the EU, yet here I am 3 days later in the UK unable to see 143/145. This would be relatively fine, if they hadn't made several posts on their Twitter accounts saying things like "update now!" and "have you updated yet?", and also made a competition on this very forum with a 10 day deadline, meaning if someone like me wanted to enter they would be 3 days behind anyone else already.

Well its not huawei the problem. They released the update but google has to certify it then it will be sent in batches.

Sorry what? "certified by Google"? If the update has already come out in other regions/countries then surely it's already good to go, and the blame rests on Huawei/Honor for not pushing it to all the relevant regions/devices (which I'm sure they're able to do without doing it in waves, otherwise they wouldn't be telling everyone it's available now...)

Certification goes by country my friend. Thats the main reason why it goes in waves. If you are so much in rush you can use no check recovery and then you will see its not certified by Google . So yes its Google to blame because huawei have the update ready.

You know, before I started using Firmware Finder on one of my previous phones, I was a year without an update. So that's what they suck at.

Really? It was my understanding that not being "certified by Google" was something that stopped your specific device from being updated, and that each manufacturer organised their own OTA updates (to me it doesn't make much sense for Google to be certifying Huawei, Samsung, etc. updates, as surely those companies have their own teams to test this stuff?).
Even so, I spoke with Honor customer service earlier today and all "Shane" could tell me was to "hold on". He even said he agreed that it's a bit silly for Honor to tell everyone it's available when really it isn't, but that there's nothing else they can do

Its not about huawei. Its about google security. Having or not their own team to test things doesnt mean they have access to google suite. Certification grants you access to google play, google pay and certain banking apps. If google did not check the updates for certain bugs, hacks etc then the update will stay on hold and as i said from country to country banking systems, telecommunication security systems are different.

Little miss leading social media , yes gpu boost is rolling out in certain regions this is normal practice for honor again it's region based batches at a time , the UK is always the last to get it , honor phones are not like say a OnePlus global device were as soon as a update rolls say in Canada first, you can set a VPN to Canada and download it even though your region hasn't got update yet , that would be nice but honor phones have tons of different region build numbers so unfortunately it's a waiting game for us in UK , I applied for the gpu boost beta and that wasn't being announced till 13th and haven't heard a thing since [emoji848]

Is there actually an alternative to FF? I just want to download the .zip and cannot update it via the phone.
FF doesnt have the current Firmware "C432E2R1P5" für my Honor 9
€: Nvm. I found it, its the B162. But anyway are there other website who gather Honor/Huawei Firmwares?

H870 - European Update

Update 19 December 2017:
I've just updated through LG Bridge. I have come to following conclusions:
- My data, media and apps still exist. Nothing deleted
- Bridge will download massive 3GB of firmware
- Bridge didn't like my wifi so I used my neighbor wifi that downloaded the firmware successfully. However I don't know why I got server error at my own wifi
- I can't see any changes. Just a november patch which is still better than July
So I got this response from LG:
This is a staff of LG Product Security Response Team(LG PSRT).
First of all, we apologize for late security patch.
As I know, the latest version (for European) is also July.
According to our dedicated team, there will be a security patch for your LG G6 H870 within the end of December.
Thanks for your patience.
Regards,
LG PSRT
What does that even mean? Which security patch will we receive? Any mention of Android 8?
Security patch: August

Yeah, the LG updates is kinda a joke. The hardware is good and all, but we're still running the same 7.0 that it was launched with some 9 months ago. I'm just waiting for stable LOS.
As I said, very nice! I'd actually been missing those icons.
Would you consider making a version with the Nexus grey background instead of all black as well? While keeping the icons and the accent color.
Oh, and if you do, I wouldn't mind seeing a slight background change for the separator row in the settings. Just like the default white theme handles it, but in a dark grey of course.

Nordic LG G6 updates
Well I just asked LG Finnish customer service why the security updates are still at july 1st on my LG G6 that I bought a week ago. My 2+ years old phone I switched from had newer security updates.
First response was basically "unfortunately we dont know this as Google is responsible for the updates... Please inquire Google about this."
When I complained about this and pointed them to LG's own website at (cannot post links yet)
https lgsecurity.lge.com/security_updates.html
I got a snarky reply saying that as I can probably read from the page the updates are irregular at some regions etc.
And that getting updates in Finland means all the Nordic countries and their operators have to test the update first before its released here.
They said an update is coming, but did not specify "which" update. Blah. Not very good customer service either.
Like Sony Phones I swear I will add LG to the not buy list in the future Permanently. I'm responsible for the Hardware buying here at our company and we have removed LG also for now. Next year we will be upgrading to Motorola as they seems to fulfill our budget and security updates

The world isn't work like this. Nobody enforced you to buy any Huawei devices.
If you want to make a complaint, then write to Google or to Donald Trump.
Have we sell the p30 pro?

The world does work like this ,it's consumer protection. Nobody forces you to buy a contract / bill item but by law you have cooling off periods and protection when the item isn't as described. We could argue that the item is no longer as described due to losing access to official Android updates and applications
Sent from my VOG-L09 using Tapatalk
Worst thing is, if we opt to sell, no one will buy it due to these restrictions. I shave 3 years on this contract... Talk about D's
Huawei unlocks its devices, we install play store services and carry on
So what…. Trump is working on the next big Economic Crisis for the US... Huawei will found a Solution and have his own Appstore
Greetings Raffi
I am concerned about the updates
Finally my p30 pro feels so snappy with 153 that made me excited about Android q and Updates then this comes along
And is it going to effect the other Chinese manufacturers like OnePlus oppo xiaomi or not, these are the only ones left to provide us with the latest best tech without the redeculas 1000$+ that's becoming normal even for LG
Stupid
I am worried about this too, it also makes me think that if this news changes soon something like this could happen in the future because of the issues regarding huawei and America and also the UK where i am stopping Huawei from creating the 5G networks.
I happened to request a return for my P30 Pro within the 14 days period, i got sent the bag to send it back in, and says i have 30 days from when i made that request, i am within them 30 days still, so not i am really wondering if i should just send this phone back and get an S10?
Apparently this happened to ZTE before however they were reinstated again and approved. So time will tells
I think I have made my mind up, I have always been with Samsung, i was really loving OneUI on my s8+ before i got the p30 pro, i only got it as i thought i'd give it a go assuming it can't be that different, i have posted many bugs and annoyances here since getting the p30 pro, some of which i have fixed, some i can't, the EMUI software is really bad and doesn't seem well developed at all.
I think i will get an s10+
I don't care. I believe that Huawei most likely have the capacity to do their own firmware now. They'll do their own firmware and run their own app store. They're big enough now that they'll be able to make it work. Will be nice to have an alternative third ecosystem in the phone world.
I guess it's good bye now to any future security patches. Don't think Huawei's own OS would a viable alternative either. It's new and it will definitely have a lot of issues with third party apps compatibility for example, syncing to wear os devices.
Anyways, it was stated that current phones are not effected by this so i guess the main issue for us now would be upcoming security patches and firmware update.
Reckon the best option would be to sell it off.

Isn't android open source? The AOSP code for any future android OS will always be available. Huawei can always use androids open code into their devices for future security patches.
Google and 5 eyes are already spying on you. How come you don't care about that?
Huwaei phone will not recieve any android specifc code from Google , no more secutity updates , no more Google Play, no more APIs ,,,
Everthing is just blocked by US /Google now ,,
Huwaei journey in androd ends here as they will only have Aosp access which is plain deadland now days as most of the apis have migrated to Google play services

Huawei Mate 20 Pro fate!?

Hey Mate 20 Pro owners - just trying to understand what the Mate 20 Pro owners are planning on at the moment in the wake of Google/android services ban etc.,
I am also a proud owner of Mate 20 Pro for the last six months and I absolutely love this device.
Are you guys trying to selling it off before the value drops too low?
Or, hoping the situation will reverse and fix itself?
I am hoping it will all be okay in the next two months? What do you guys advise?
I'm sticking with it as this Google business isn't a major problem for me
Same here, i'll stay with my mate 20 pro.
i really think it's a great phone, so i see no reason to sell it.
About the problems with Google, we still have 3 months before the ban really starts, so i think it's just a pressure method from Trump to get the trade deal with China.
And even if it's not and they still ban it i will stay with Huawei, i have to say i'm really curious about Hongmeng OS that they'll launch in fall.
I only consider price and value before and at the time of buying. Once I make a decision, the price is no longer a factor for me. I only bought the phone recently because my previous phone was no longer usable. As long as my current gapps remain usable on this phone, I don't necessarily care about future updates that much. I buy a phone based on it's performance at the time of purchase. When I was buying this phone, I wanted a flagship phone for a non-flagship price, I refuse to spend a $1000 for a phone. After considering many, it came down to this phone because it was a flagship phone that had a non-flagship price.
It's bad when a phone loses it's upgrade path, it's always better to have a phone from a brand that's not in the news for all the wrong reasons. However, all the good reasons I bought this phone for to begin with still stand. I'm in the USA, I buy my phones outright and just put them on my basic plan without subsidy because it saves me money in the long run. I wanted a good phone, I got a good phone. I take care of it, I got a case that protects it's front and back, it should last long enough to justify it's investment. With each transaction, be it a car, a house or a phone, you lose money (especially with sales tax) so the solution is to buy smart and minimize the number of transactions as much as possible. I would love to unlock the bootloader and root it, I would love it if Huawei bans are reversed but even if not, what I have is still a great phone to keep for the foreseeable future.
From now on, I'll keep it. It doesn't a matter if we can't upgrade to Android Q. But I must keep using Android Suite, because I'm using it for work. And I'm also using Android Auto.
Don't worry, if you need gaps you have various ways to install them. Besides, I can't wait to see what will that new OS will be!

can you please elaborate? I'm also curious if there's alternative non offical way to keep the os and apps as is in a functional way.
Existing Huawei devices will keep access to gapps, even after if and when the ban is permanently enforced. If there is no positive solution for Huawei, their future phones will not be able to access gapps. Sideloading gapps to future devices after the ban is official just won't work without changing the device ID, google servers (play store, gmail, gmaps, etc, etc) will deny access to future identified Huawei phones. For example, Mate 30 Pro will likely launch in November, the current 90 day extension expires in August. If the ban is still in place (I doubt it) at the time the Mate 30 Pro launches, then it will be denied access to gaaps, if it's identified as a Huawei device that was launched after the ban became official.
Personally I think it's just politics and leveraging for a position in the trade war negotiations. Huawei's growth is a concern to others, they surpassed others in the 5G infrastructure tech and the USA and it's allies don't want the traffic to go through tech they don't have control over. The reason they are leaving Xiaomi or 1+ alone is they don't make the infrastructure behind 5G. I think it's not about China spying through Huawei, rather about them not being able to spy through Huawei equipment.
I'm definitely keeping mine for another year, the resell value is so minuscule now that it's not worth upgrading after just a year. This is still a great device and on par with all the newest flagships.
I don't care if EMUI 10/Android Q eventually arrives without any Google services, I'll simply use Gmail through the native EMUI email app and download my apps through Aurora store. Aurora allows you to login with your Google account even without Play services and download paid apps you've purchased. For YouTube I'll use Vanced, it has no ads and no need for Google services.

No. Existing phones can continue to use Google play protect and the play store but Huawei cannot release any updates including security updates after August.
Huawei will obviously focus their attention on the new os which will replace android so chances on getting much support on our phones is quite low. Which is why the resale value of the phone has collapsed.

I think "Android one" is a dead project, at least for Xiaomi and continues to prove it in every way
How many of Android One phones from different manufacturers are on Android 10? Motorola One received it yesterday. More recent Motorola phones haven't received it yet. New phones from Nokia will get them in "between Q1 and Q2 2020".
How many monthly security updates got skipped by Xiaomi? I don't remember even one missing.
Just because you misunderstood Android One programme, it doesn't mean it's rubbish or dead. Xiaomi and other manufacturers are following Android One standards and they are roughly at the same position, none of them being much ahead of others.

And how many bugs have been introduced by these monthly updates?
And how many fixes have been released to correct the countless programming flaws of their Rom? Nobody.
It seems that you are not aware of the damage caused to the unfortunate users used as unwitting "beta testers" of Android 10, on the Mi A2 lite and Mi A3 devices.
Not to mention their completely absent and / or unprepared after-sales support

There are like how many bugs on Android 9. 1 or 2? No new have been introduced, most got fixed.
Android 10 update was rushed mess, I agree with that. But you can blame mainly people like you, pushing on company to release update immediately, even if it's not ready. They shouldn't have listened, that was their mistake number one.
I keep repeating, they need to improve communication and be honest. It there's a delay, announce it. If there are unforeseen problems, fix them and apologize. This is the main area where they need a huge improvement. But it can be said about many other companies, Xiaomi is not the only one. It's no excuse, but there aren't many good examples out there (especially at this price point).

It may be that as you say, the problems of "Android one" are also common to other companies, but here we talk about Xiaomi and if it is true that it releases monthly security updates with a certain regularity, it is equally true that more than once introduced Bugs, without ever releasing an official Fix and without ever having corrected the main defect of the native WiFi on Android Pie in the Mi A2 lite and now it also appears in the Mi A2 with Android 10.
In addition, no one has forced Xiaomi to release a version upgrade, however, provided by the "Android one" program, without first having carried out the most basic checks with their "Beta testers".
As far as I am concerned, he would have done better first to fix all the defects widely documented in their firmware already in use, instead of combining all this useless mess.
The only fully functional Rom was the native one of Android 8.1, at least on the Mi A2 lite device

Which bugs got introduced with monthly updates and are still present on A3? I don't know about any, but I might have missed them. Except the bug with "ghost text" I have zero problems with stock Android 9.

Fingerprint and proximity sensor.
The brightness of the display changes by itself, even if it is set manually.
But you've probably been lucky ...

Can't confirm them. Proximity works fine, FP sensor as well. For brightness control I use OLED saver which works perfectly. Maybe I'm really lucky.. [emoji846]

it's almost inconceivable to say that it's normal for the update to be delayed and for example other companies
But that's not to say that almost all miui devices have been upgraded.
you are not rooting for so many mistakes on androidone but not on miui.
something smells ugly
Big number of different new device and low number of developers. Working on an embedded system is not easy dude. Why you think most of the new device have the A/B part (mender style)?
Fear of the brick.

From today Huawei has lost the Android Licence

Hi guys,
So i just read today that starting from now on, the authorisation of using the "Android Licence"for Huawei is definitely over after an extended period of time granted by the U.S Government.
Which means, that starting from today, we will not get any Google updates like security or even the play store itself, and will be probably forced to update manually lot of update like it's already the case for the P40/Mate 30 series....
They say in the article that for Android 11, Huawei is gonna need to use their HMS Service instad of the GMS for all their smartphones, even the already released ones like the P30 Series....
So what do you think about it ? Is it worthing keeping this phone as it's price value is gonna decrease very quickly from now on i think...
It's a shame for this amazing phone to end up like this
Source : https://www.frandroid.com/marques/h...jour-android-la-licence-temporaire-est-tombee (the article is in French, but you can use Google Translate if needed)
Sorry but this is wrong.
There will be Android Updates like before and there will be updates for the PlayStore and all of the apps.
The only thing that is no longer possible, till the elections in the US and the get rid of Trump, is that Huawei will not get the latest Android Versions for new devices. So Android 11 in the final Version is not gonna hit our Device as early as we are used to.
Android btw is Open Source so the Updates and security updates can't be held away from any device. They only will be later on the Phone as Huawei doesn't get developer Versions.
And as the Huawei P30 Pro is already certified it can't be withdrawn from thwe certification on the Google Play Store.
Thats what I have read for over a year now.
i'm french and i know frandroid
i think we should find other sources for such a complicated subject, they might be wrong
I just posted my concerns as its us, customers, who are the most affected by this numeric war between US Government and China.
I just hope the future U.S elections will change the situation if another president than Trump is elected and decide to come back as thing was before.... but i'm not sure that its gonna be that simple.
https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/...cense-to-trade-with-us-companies-has-expired/
quote: "Google confirmed to The Washington Post that without the temporary license, the company can't "provide security updates and updates to Google’s apps and services on existing devices.""
Check out bellow article too
Huawei’s temporary general license has expired
And an update to previous shared article:
USA further tightens restrictions on Huawei, will not extend the temporary general license

I just don't care that much about device price, but about device functionality.... probably huawei could bring a further 11 update, but we will definitely lose all google related software! Just like latest devices, not big deal for some users and not very nice for others like me for example!?

Don't worry, there are workarounds to get GMS working on device, no problem.
As soon as we'll lose our GMS i will create a guide thread for P30 Pro users about how to get Google apps & also Google Certification. Untill then, use the phone as is and most important, DON'T SELL IT. IT's still one of the best devices on the market. I bought myself an Oppo device last week and gave my P30 Pro to my kid, but i'm allready missing battery life :silly:.

Neah, no sign of it. They will not get that unlock bootloader option back to soon for allready released devices, maybe for the next line-up phones, the ones that will come with MediaTek processors onboard they will give us the unlocking bootloader option.

So, to be more precise, P30 pro will no longer have any security updates. But Playstore and apps will works without issues anyway, and it is possible to update them, this is it?

What happened to Mate 30 Pro / P40 Pro will happen to P30 / P30 Pro and all Huawei devices before those that came with GMS preinstalled. Read bellow for more info. We can sideload Google apps, but the device might not get Google Certification (or it could work if we use the P40 Pro users guide for how to from their forum).

or maybe get other store like Aptoide ... I was planing to be with this phone till 5g get more mature here in my country!
P30Pro came with the Google Service and certified pre-installed so this cannot be withdrawn!
So nothing will happen to the device now!
Nad as Android has an Open Source arm with AOSP security updates will still come to the device too.
The only thing that could be is, that we don't get Android 11 or more likely to become it later than we are used to.
Don't know where other confirmed information will come from. Didn't read anything different till now that is really secured.
That is what by the way is mentioned from google Employee in the thread on the link from Silviu. Don't know why you write something completely different @SilviuO ??
