Stock or Custom ROM? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Questions & Answers

I bought my Redmi Note 5 (which happens to be my first Xiaomi phone) a week ago and I gotta say MIUI is much better than I expected. It's pretty fast and has a lot of features and the camera app is fine. I want your opinion: Is LineageOS or other custom ROMs worth it for this device? I have a pretty good amount of experience with custom ROMs but I was wondering if I would be missing out on anything if I switch to a custom ROM. Is the camera app as good as/better than the MIUI camera app? Does it have PROPER manual mode? Do I still get slow motion, portrait mode front and back, and other cool stuff? If not, can I flash a camera app for that? I have a billion questions that can be answered with your opinion and a link to a ROM you like, if any.
Thanks for your time!

I would go for MIUI 10 , most of the roms here are just the same vendor rom with lots of bugs and then overlays on top.
Basic things are missing or broken like proper fingerprint reading/swiping, Gcam is rubbish and only kind of works, they have volume issues with both speakers and headphones, screen brightness problems, heating issues, wake lock issues, no mms with mobile data turned off, no treble support because they didn't bother fixing the vendor rom, fast charge issues, no voLTE and updates are few and far between.
Now recently we have Android P and it is rubbish, laggy broken no camera, no voLTE all the same vendor issues.
And LineageOS rom is broken with all the same problems and more.
Sorry to dissapoint but we really lucked out on developers with this device.
At the moment, things may change, but MIUI 10 has it all over every custom rom here.

MIUI 10 is still in beta though, right? I guess I'll have to give it a month or so. I'm currently running MIUI 9.5.19 and the system update app says I'm good.

9.5.19 is for note 5 global so this forum is not for your device. You have to go note 5 pro forum (it's pro only in India, Chinese and global are both note 5 without pro)

MIUI 9.5 is based on Oreo 8.1 for me. And isn't MIUI 10 based on Pie 9.0?

See @langster-Posting -
Forum can rename itself in Bug-Forum - never see before . . . sooooo many Bugs concerning important Points (Wlan, LTE, Sound and and and)
Stay with Miui and look forward to Updates ...

Using RR and have none of your named problems. No Wakelocks, though there is a Netlink problem happening randomly when flashing, but ez reconnect battery and it's fixed. Luckily I never faced that bug.
Also Gcam Mod is amazing, pictures are as good as in MIUI Camera.
RAM management is way, waaaay better than in MIUI, no crashes, no lags, no hot reboots.
Battery Life is the same, can't point out a difference.
No screen brightness & heating issues either. The sceen burn was a wrong driver in DarkAges Kernel, as far as I understood it.
Running in RR and can highly recommend to get rid of MIUI, then you can unleash the full power of your phone !

Same goes for Liquid Remix. None, really NONE of the problems discribed above occur. WiFi is superb, gcam works without a single hiccup, sound is great, battery life is even better than on MIUI.
I don't understand why so many people put so much hate on custom roms for Vince, you just have to search for the well maintained roms and not for the ones that gets an initial release and then be abandoned by the devs (aka the indian teenagers that clone complete repos and just put their name on it)

I'd rather prefer MIUI, ive tried almost every custom ROM. My internet connection keeps dropping, im unable to play Clash Royale and other online games, the connection drops. The only fix is to DEGRADE the connection type to 2G within the mobile network settings.

Pixel experience is good

Agree I don't think the devs can figure these minor bugs out and even worse they all seem to be sharing the same buggy base crap and just putting custom roms on top of it.
I installed 10 custom roms and they failed in all the same "features"
And watch out for Dark Ages kernel unless you want to cook marshmellows on your phone while charging!

I have it installed of course, otherwise I couldn't talk about it, huh?
- Rounded corners are okay, I like them. That is no bug, that's the decision of the dev.
- Battery is decent, 10+ hours of SoT.
- RAM is no problem, never under 1000mb free
- Never had ANY problem with WiFi. Check your router.
- Heating? What is heating for you? Never ever had more than 40°C, even when playing PUBG.
- Force close on back key works on smart bar. Use that.
- Fast charge works fine, see attached Screenshot.
- Speaker and headphone are fine, what the f* do you expect from a PHONE?
Well, I think you are the one spreading lies here, nearly everything you have mentioned above simply isn't true. Maybe you should switch to iOS if you cannot setup your android device properly.

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Overclocking it makes everything even more considerable keeping up with newer phones but still so beautiful
IP certification would be perfect
I'm gonna post this here; I sent this originally as a private message since someone was asking about buying a Z2 Pro, and I figured a "here's kinda how it is as of September 2017" roundup might be useful for others looking at buying one, or trying to decide between the Pro and Plus.
So I own a Z2 Pro, and after several months of trying various options for custom and factory ROMs for it, and then getting a regular Z2 Plus for my wife, and setting THAT up...
Frankly, if I were going to get one now, I'd get the Z2 Plus Z2132 instead. Bigger battery, MUCH better custom ROM community with more stable & official builds, official TWRP, better-supported camera... to me, the extra $150 for the Pro has only meant more headaches trying to get something stable to work as a daily driver with regular security updates - and the AMOLED screen, UFS vs eMMC internal storage speed, and supposedly better camera haven't really ended up being as much of a difference as I thought. Yeah there's more storage & RAM, but... for daily use, at least on Nougat, 4GB RAM / 64GB storage is still plenty.
ZUI (factory firmware) issues:
Long story short, the official ZUI is an annoying mess for me, even with root (I use Magisk so I can have root utilities like Titanium Backup but still keep playing Pokemon Go with my wife)... the dialer and settings and built-in calendar app and lots of things still have Chinese showing up around the edges even when the system is set to English. Trying to disable built-in apps and use Google Dialer & Contacts doesn't quite work right, you can't actually install something like OpenGapps but have to piecemeal it together with packages from apkmirror or similar, and Google contact sync stops every week or two without warning - since I need contact, calendar, and email sync to work for business purposes, that's a show-stopper for me.
Seems like the Plus gets updates to ZUI before the Pro does, by a couple weeks.
Custom ROM issues:
The Pro camera really only looks & performs great under ZUI. It's not Camera2 HAL compatible and, unless Lenovo decides to pursue that with their own sources, never will support fancy HDR+ modes or zero shutter lag with Google Camera apps. AEX recent builds are starting to get really close to stock ZUI quality, since they imported & shimmed the ZUI camera blobs somehow, but some others like Mokee might still accidentally mechanically jam your camera trying to enable OIS. Ouch.
The U-Health app on stock ZUI is the only thing that can talk to the heart rate/blood-oxygen sensor on the back of the phone under the flash. Nobody has got U-Health working under a custom ROM since it requires the ZUI framework and integration with Lenovo's user login ecosystem. But the step sensor is apparently generic and supported by Google Fit, so if you just want to see if you're hitting 10K steps per day, you're all set. All the other sensors (gyro, orientation, proximity, magnetic, GPS/GLONASS, pressure, gravity, etc.) seem to work fine in custom ROMs.
You'll hear a lot about the "blue LED of death" - that's a hard freeze, the screen goes blank and the notification LED goes blue (with a 50% duty cycle, which looks different than just being "on"). You can restart from there by holding the power button for 8-10 seconds, so don't panic. Unfortunately, it seems to be reeeeeally easy to hard freeze the phone by doing some things with Bluetooth, or entering/exiting deep sleep (like if I have a clock alarm and a calendar reminder or two that would all go off simultaneously, and it's plugged in to charge, trying to wake itself up and play all those notifications at the same time has actually made it freeze instead and I've slept through an alarm that never went off) or other stuff that involves switching CPU states too much... I don't know. It seems like, at the end of the day, the stock (ZUI) thermal-engine.conf might have something to do with it... it sets super-low limits for temperatures, and the CPU ends up throttling, and it'll try to crash out perhaps as a safety measure instead of getting too hot... or maybe the constant state-switching leads to instability. Anyway, it's not too hot. They're just being super-conservative. Not sure. You can pull a different thermal config that'll ease up a lot, get you better benchmarks, and still isn't actually putting the hardware at risk.
Custom ROMs:
LineageOS 14 - there isn't a current build. I mean, there IS, and theoretically work is still being done on it, by a couple different people (long story and some drama involved there...) but there's no daily driver with working sound and no progress reports being made in XDA forums.
Mokee 7 - continues to be a thing (based on LineageOS sources), but... I don't know, it's all nightlies in terms of stability (at least when I tried it). Everything mostly works, it's just crashy. Wouldn't recommend. However, the maintainer is a guy whose name you'll see a lot: SY/Siyang. He's basically THE guy on the Lenovo Chinese forums responsible for building Z2 Pro ports of various custom/aftermarket ROMs like Resurrection Remix, AICP, Flyme, MIUI, HydrogenOS, etc. Apparently being a kernel developer means you know how to play around. But that's all it really is; playing around - he doesn't actively maintain any of them, just kinda builds them & throws them out there, but isn't in it to do active bug fixes. He also includes 3-4 packages of Chinese bloatware that involve some kind of adware/affiliate marketing to try and make some money - I don't begrudge him that, and you can disable/freeze them, but it's still not "clean".
MIUI/Flyme/HydrogenOS - I think they're all Android 6 (MM) based, so I haven't looked into them. Built by Siyang.
AICP - Built by Siyang. This was actually pretty good, but it crashed out on me with an alarm set twice and I was late for work. Ditched.
Resurrection Remix - Built by Siyang. This was also pretty good, but the 5.8.4 builds have problems. 5.8.3 was best, but got blue LED a couple times and ditched it too, not interested in moving backward in security patches.
...which brings us to AEX (AOSP Extended) - this is the only working Nougat ROM being actively developed & maintained for the Z2 Pro as of this writing that's stable for daily driver use, but it's REALLY good. @davidevinavil has done a fantastic job and is very responsive on the XDA forums. Since he's just using the same thermal-engine.conf as ZUI it doesn't score as high as possible on benchmarks, but you can grab the one from void23's kernel and use that (void hasn't updated his kernel for AEX 4.6 yet and doesn't seem to plan to with the release of Oreo "real soon now", so I don't recommend actually using his kernel anymore).
Works well with Magisk (for root, root hiding, and making Google Play Store like your weird-ass Chinese OEM phone, etc.), supports OMS/substratum themes, has current security patches, generally non-crashy, and camera quality is pretty good (both the built-in camera app, and with Open Camera and CameraNextModV7). F2FS support for /data & /cache might work, but the dev doesn't use those (even though, in theory, it makes a notable difference since the Pro has UFS instead of eMMC 5.2 storage) so plan on using ext4 for everything. Haven't tried device encryption yet, but if I were going to, it would be on this one.
Custom Kernels:
Void kernel - Void23 did some nice work based on AEX 4.5, and some people successfully use it with other ROMs as well. It works best with most current AEX 4.5, but from the reading I've done I wouldn't use it with 4.6. However, you can grab his thermal-engine.conf file from his installer package, and put it into /system/etc/ of a clean AEX 4.6 install and that'll give you a little more headroom before CPU/GPU/chipset throttling occurs.
TWRP:
There's a few, but @davidevinavil has the only 3.1.1 release, and it works the best as far as I can tell. There's a 3.1.0 release on the zukfans.eu German language forum (reasons...) that mostly works well but sometimes can't install some ROMs, and a Chinese release of 3.1.0 by wzsx150 that seems to work best for installing all the Lenovo forum ports by Siyang plus has a few extra goodies (like rebooting directly to EDL/port 9008 mode for QPST/QFIL flashing). As much as I'd love to have my /data partition encrypted, I haven't bothered testing lately. I'm guessing best compatibility would be using AEX and @davidevinavil's TWRP, but haven't actually tested. Again, F2FS is hit or miss.
But you know what's even better about @davidevinavil and AEX for the Z2 Pro? It's essentially a port of his work on AEX for the Z2 Plus! And on the Z2 Plus, it's only one of many actively supported and maintained custom ROMs! And there's an unofficial EAS-enabled version of AEX on that phone, so that bigger battery will go even farther!
So yeah. I like being able to quickly run a nandroid backup & restore and all, and have more room for video files & music, but as far as actual daily driver quality of life... not sure if the extra $150+ is worth it for the Pro, especially when you have the same CPU/GPU and bigger battery on the Plus. The every-so-slightly nicer camera seems to actually be a problem that delays getting working custom ROMs, and the other differences don't translate into noticeable daily quality of life improvements for me - I mean it's not like the plus is SLOW by any stretch. But it's got more RAM & storage, and USB 3 transfer speed, so if you use it as a glorified thumb drive a lot, or tend to load up lots of movies/music, then maybe it's worth it. And the AMOLED screen is pretty.
Oh, and there's a LOT more protective cases for the Z2 (plus) than the Z2 Pro.
So there you go. If you have any other questions about daily life with a Z2 Pro, feel free to ask me!
---------- Post added at 02:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:09 PM ----------
It's fast, and it's working pretty well for me, but it took a LOT to get to where it's actually a reliable daily driver for work.
I have owned mine for 15 months and paid $400. If I broke it right now I would buy another one for the $260 it is selling at.
Got it 25 months so far, since October '17, bought 215€. In my eyes, it is like a the OnePlus 3 6/128 of its time, except the silly multilanguage chinese "stock" rom in which I have stucked yet (a modified MM version). I was about buying a new phone and change battery, root-rom-kernel etc at this one, and just change battery, root-rom-kernel etc this one. Decided to stay because even at 50€ more , it's impossible to find anything else equipped with just OIS, 6 GB ram, amoled, UFS, though I'd expected to be able to buy much more, such as >=8 ram, cooling, macro & wide, as we are two years after.
Sooo no. One more year will be good enough with it. That's the only (main) device I have kept for more than 10 months What more could I want? :highfive: :victory:

Mate 10 pro insights and user experience

Hello everyone,
I consider buying Mate 10 pro and I am torn by many of the posts here about the phone / live review results.
After reading many good reviews I have now few doubts and would like to make a post that will gather your (those who own Mate 10 / pro) experience with the phone.
I am obvisouly aware there are already reports on such topics in the live review section but I believe (and hope) that stuff have changed due to the AI learning the user
daily uses and Huawei updates.
Few key features / questions I personally would love to hear from you about are:
Always on display - does it still working only with huawei native apps?
Lock screen notification - after unlocking does the notification dismiss from the lock screen?
Lags / over heat - Do you encounter them on daily use? how smooth the experience is compare to other flasgships?
Youtube + message app bug - there is a post on the forum about the phone locking it self if you get message when you view youtube in full window mode, did it
got fixed with update?
Does the bluetooth / gps / wifi work well?
its just a few points I would love answers to but you welcome to offer any insight about the phone, cons and pros after using it for a while.
Have a wonderful day =)

1) Yes, so far only works with Huawei apps
2)Yes
3)Never encountered these issues, no lag or overheating here, not even when charging.
4)Never had this problem
5)All working fine here (5Ghz wifi too). GPS is fast and accurate. I don't use Bluetooth very often, but i did some tests with file transfer and headset, no problem here.
I could answer from the 3rd point
No overheat at all and performance is really good only some minor stutter every now and then like every Android phone
GPS and wifi and Bluetooth are always working correctly for me
I don't encounter YouTube problem at all.

Sadly, I believe there is no current "perfect" phone in the market and I am having real trouble deciding if to go for the Galaxy S8, htc u11+ or Huawei mate 10 pro.
Is there any bugs / cons on Huawei mate 10 pro software that should be highlighted in your opinion?
Honestly I understand your question and in the same time, I'm bored about these questions...
Phone is very great... Best phone I have ever had...
Not overheating incredible battery life and marvelous experience... For me.
Of course, it isn't perfect. As any phone..
Read reviews and decide...

I'm curious about something, does the Pro support using the fingerprint sensor as navigation, similar to the standard Mate 10 and the Honor View 10?
It'd probably be a little more unorthodox as it's located on the back but that's possibly the only way I'd consider getting it even. Not an AMOLED fan.

It's my first Huawei, and I've read a lot also before buying it, and I've been happily surprised:
3- I never got it hot (netflix for hours ....). I got it "warm" and I insist on warm because it really wasn't hot (especially compared to my previous phones) once when I was doing google Duo + fast charging. And about the lags, nope.
4- Never got this issue.
5- Bluetooth, wifi (5ghz, 2,4ghz, hotspot...). For the GPS I only used it in Hong-Kong atm, and with the ****ing density of buildings, it was not really accurate, but not worse than the other phones. Once outside the city it was working very well.
For the other things :
- The rear camera is very good ! I will need a tripod for night shoots, because in night mode (or manual) you can increase the shutter time.
- I really like EMUI (usually I always flash cyanogen/lineage)
- The infrared : I noticed that I use it all the time to control my AC and TV ^^
- The sound could be better : you easily block it with your hands, and what they call "stereo" ... is quite bad because the other speaker is not as loud as the one at the bottom.

If you like snappy smooth phones don't go for the Sammy from my opinion
I was always a Samsung user for many years till the s7edge and then switched to Mate 9 then now mate 10 pro
While Samsung phones are great but they can't be compared to Huawei in 2 things mainly the battery life and speed/smoothness of operation and animations ect..

No the fingerprint scanner does not do all the functions as the normal mate 10 but we have something called navigation dock and it's floating anywhere you like on screen and it do the same exactly so you can hide the keys and make use of all this great 18:9 screen

Huawei Mate 10 Pro
I love the phone. I compared it to top of the line Samsungs at the store and I like the way it looks/feels better. Also Samsungs have ridiculously long shape and have much smaller battery.
Overall impression:
-- Very appealing to look at and hold. It is a bit slippery without a case because both sides are glass, but it comes with a very thin transparent soft plastic case which gives it a much better grip.
-- Camera blows my previous phone out of the water but not as good as a consumer grade DSLR. Low light pictures are sharp and crisp.
-- No headphone jack but comes with a pair of USB-C phones in the box.
This is my second HUAWEI device (first one was Honor Note 8 and it got stolen). I keep coming back to Huawei because of excellent build quality and very long battery life.
Always on display - does it still working only with huawei native apps?
- Mine does not have an always-on display.
Lock screen notification - after unlocking does the notification dismiss from the lock screen?
I have not seen such notification. I touch the fingerprint circle on the back side and it immediately shows icon screen or whatever app was open last.
Lags / over heat - Do you encounter them on daily use? how smooth the experience is compare to other flasgships?
Mine is always cool to the touch. I would not know what happens during intense videogames as I don't play em.
Youtube + message app bug - there is a post on the forum about the phone locking it self if you get message when you view youtube in full window mode, did it

Will try it and update.

Bluetooth and GPS do. For me Wifi does not work well with 2.4 Ghz routers, although I get 120 Mbps on the 5 Ghz band. It looks like no one else has this issue so I will try to return and replace the phone with identical one. Also it appears to be a software glitch so might be fixed with an update.

OpenKirin for MediaPad M5

Hi all, just seen a post about OpenKirin for our devices.
For MediaPad 8.4 seems to support SHT AL09 AND w09
I have funkyhuawei for another 25 days so will give it a try this week and give u all a shout:
https://openkirin.net/
Check it out before me if u get a chance (it's my first day at a new job tomorrow so want something stable for journey to work tomorrow)
Let me know what you guys think about it? Have you tried it before? Have you any knowledge on the Devs and their work etc.
Yes you can use the Rom on your m5. Nearly all works some small things are not 100% OK but nothing important. Only Carbonrom has a Tablet version right noe Rest will be added later
I will add a thread with Installation guides and all other needed in the next few days. If you have any questions ping me. I'm the developer for tablets in open kirin
@rcstar6696 I tried the RR OpenKirin Rom. Most things work well, good work
Same problems as phh-treble with bluetooth being a bit weird (same as the bug I logged here https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/issues/94)
Fingerprint works but home button doesn't (phh-treble fixed this with a custom IDC file)
AOSP camera works but the other camera app crashes at launch

hmmm on carbon i have no issues with bluetooth but i will test more now. about the fingerprint i didn't get what you mean for me fingerprint works all the time its equal if i enable fingerprint navigation or not. Or do you mean if you enable fingerprint navigation no homebutton possible ? if yes thats a limitation from rr on carbon we use a different implimentation for the fingerprint gesture and both work together. i recommand to use the carbon tablet veriosn for now until we push out tablet builds on other roms
No issues on carbon now.. All working fine..

Carbon for tablets v1 build works well, very smooth.
Still the same bluetooth issue, mouse will not pair. It works perfectly on stock rom. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you troubleshoot this issue
Separately, mouse behaviour is strange on this device on all roms including stock, so I think this might be a kernel thing as Huawei define their own 'mouse0' device.
Do I need to have an unlocked bootloader to install Carbon ROM?
Also I was hoping someone wouldn't mind sharing some pictures or creating a YouTube video showing what the carbon ROM looks like on this device.
Thanks

Yes you need unlocked Bootloader
I can share some screen shots later

I'm on beta1 for tablet, it feel smoot and stable for a beta, 1080p stutter even on YouTube but it should be solved on beta2 right? I Will try some demanding games too. What's the difference between tablet and generic builds? Just the UI optimizations for bigger screen? ( that's a great thing i hated to have a tablet with phone UI till now!) tyvm i didn't have time to test BT but fingerprint work perfectly for me, even touchscreen precision feel better than stock! Can't wait for the update! The newly announced huawei GPU turbo will be added to treble builds or will be impossible to have it out of emui?
I have some trouble with leanlauncer, installing latest at a glance plug-in fail even after i remove pixel launcher, any idea?

A New beta comes tomorrow hopefully if all goes well
It has a full tablet ui
hello how is going with Carbon? I'm not familiar with Lineage OS, i see a lot of fix on the changelog 'till build number 4, it means it should be more stable and optimized than Carbon at this point or it's just different and it's at similar point? I'm still on Carbon Beta 1 for tablet, everything is working fine beside some performance issue and minor things
Today I installed los on mediapad m5 10". I have to say that developers have done amazing job. Yea, it's not optimized for tablet size, but i don't really care. It looks and works superb for beta.
Bluetooth is a little bit funky if you want to connect like keyboard and speakers at the same time, in that case, bluetooth speakers are disconected. I have found no other issue. Netflix is working, downloading is possible and it's HD resolution.
Camera is crashing, but i never use camera on tablet. Performance is top notch
I was so impressed by this build that I instantly donated, enjoy the beers guys

Carbon is more in Front of lineage and step by step all things get included in lineage. There is no diffrence between in functionallty but carbon is optimzed for tablet usage. One big pro Carbon is Aosp based Lineage is CAF but our device is not supported by CAF but on aosp

Thx yes netflix works better then stock and we still improve more things to forget emui as fast as possible
About BT i faced some similiar problems and try to fix it if i find some time again

Can we talk about how bad the Pie update on poco?

After i saw the pie miui update in system update, i immediately update my poco from oreo to pie immediatelly, thinking the update would make my poco even better, but no i was wrong, i ended up regretting udpating it, wished i stayed on oreo. Here's what the issues I'm facing on pie:
1. You can't disable the notch in settings anymore
2. 30-40% of the time when you use the home gestures to go home, the launcher is refreshing for some reason and it took me 2 seconds to wait my launcher to load
3. The recent apps animation is sluggish and not smooth compared to oreo animations
4. When you use the recent apps gestures then you immediately clicked on other apps, it doesnt go to the app immediately, but instead you must wait like 1 second, then you will able to click on other apps, in oreo it's instant, in pie its not, you must wait for it load 1 second for some reason
5. Performance is slightly worse compare to oreo, i can confirm this by playing pubg, i used to play pubg on HDR with ultra framerate settings on oreo as it is smooth on oreo, but on pie, i can feel its slightly has a lower framerate than on oreo. So now i have to play on smooth with extreme framerate settings in pubg on pie
6. We all know geekbench is a lie, yes i have a higher score on pie than oreo, but i can confirm that is BS. Pie on poco doesn't have a better performance than oreo on poco
7. Batterly is slightly worse than on oreo. When im on oreo, when i play pubg even with HDR settings, i can play a lot longer than on pie, i can truly feel im using a 4000mah battery when im oreo. But when im on pie, i feel like im using a 3000mah battery phone when im playing pubg. It drains the battery more than when im on my oreo
It's kinda weird why no one talking about this. As i assume you guys have never received the pie udpate or what?
Hi.
Finally somehas the same issues. I thought it is only my phone. I used it with xiaomi.eu developer rom but experienced the same lags. I dont do games. But I can confirm the same slowness when returning to homescreen. Sometimes it took 5-10 seconds to return to the homescreen. Now I am on pixel experience rom. The antutu score is much lower. But the overall experience is much smoother. Are you on the official 10.1 stable?
@w1040 - 1. is a nuisance, though natchonotch sorts it out
Aside from that, I haven't seen the other issues you list, though there wasn't really any user facing good stuff in the pie update - bit of a let down

Yes im on 10.1.3.0 stable. Im really dissapointed with the pie update, it makes poco experience slightly worse than on oreo.

Why do i wanna install a third party notch hider rather than just using the built in notch hider in setings that is now sadly gone
Well, They still won't fit the notch.
Don't know what they're thinking anymore.
2, 3 and 4 are the worst parts, such a turn off to use miui. Additionally, discarding notification, you can only swipe to the right as to the left opens a menu, which is also annoying. The transparent theme is also annoying and UI as a whole feels sluggish. I was impressed by Oreo when I first got the phone, but really hate pie, so Im sticking to lineage OS as I like it way more.
1. nacho notch will do the trick. I read somewhere in fhe forum that google asked to remove the hide notch feature. Not sure about the veracity of the claim.
The rest of the issues is not present on my phone.
I'm so disappointed in this phone it was overhyped by too many sources. I'll just buy a used flagship next time.
My sd845 just for calling and messaging purpose, disappointed with poco software and the poco dev...
And everyone is forgetting no more full screen gaming.
And screen recording creates black bars on 3 sides with different widths.
So damn annoying.
The only stuff that goes full-screen now is YouTube just the inverse of what was the case on oreo, all apps were full screen except for YouTube.
Can anyone help me disable Screen Pinning? The worst problem I'm facing right now. I accidentally tap the pin and I have no idea how to get out. A nice popup tells me to press back and recents at the same time. But that doesn't work with full screen gestures nor with buttons - mirrored or not. The most frustrating update. Period.

Need a simple piece of advice regarding this phone

I have ordered a Poco F1 recently. Yet to get my hands on.
Help me with the following please:
1. Read that updating Miui causes more trouble in Pubg like more ghost touches & aim stuck. So should i not update it at all ?
2. How do i check if my screen bleeds or not ? Heard nvt-ts panel does not bleed.
3. Read flashing magisk slows down phone a little bit. Is it true ?
4. If I think of flashing custom rom. Which rom is best for pubg with no ghost touches ?
5. Time & again i come across on youtube videos that all issues are gone regarding phone. How true is that ?
The Hardware is good now (from what i've heard). All roms are pretty good.
It's almost one year since i've got my hands on poco.I never noticed the display bleed unless I saw videos on youtuber's complains. Mine do bleed at the bottom, but that's very minimal and I never expected perfect phone for this price.
My display does not have any other problems.
The MIUI does get screwed up after few updates. The poco was on par with my friend's one plus 6t in terms of gaming at purchase (MIUI 10) but lately it heats up and lags a fair bit.I Unlocked and flashed roms.
I tried custom roms and finally fixed with pixel experience plus[9.0] for now, lags are gone and i play PUBG at smooth and extreme fps settings and it runs fine for 2+ hours the is see minor stutters and heat around camera.Which is totally fine as the OP6T also heats after mine does.
As per Magisk yes/No some say it slows down performance but nothing slows down your phone more than GAPPS ,So you are good to go. Try various roms and custom kernel combos.
Really happy with my purchase. Will change this phone after 2 more years.

Could you please highlight what are the basic difference between PE+ and PE ? I flashed PE+ but didn't find any "more customization" as told
How to add multiple face to unlock miui latest (10.3.8.0)
And how do I switch split window while using full screen mode(no navigation button)?

Actually the customisations are just 'long screenshot' and better 'theaming'.
Here have a look at this small video by out fello POCO user which explains clearly:

Unfortunately all face unlocking solutions I've come across could register only one face data.
And split window is accessible in the multitasking activity page ( top left corner If my memory serves right )
