Project Treble
The most common complaint about Android updates is that they are notoriously slow to release, historically speaking. Worse still, handset support is promptly re-evaluated once new models come along. Consumers have been complaining about this problem to OEMs and Google for years. Fortunately, the situation is changing following the arrival of Project Treble. Project Treble was introduced as part of Android 8.0 Oreo and represents a major re-architecture for the OS framework. The initiative’s ultimate aim is to make updates faster and easier for OEMs to roll out to devices. Treble is arguably one of the biggest changes introduced to Android, but one that consumers won’t even notice as it works primarily behind the scenes. Here’s how it will affect the future of Android.
Project Treble on Redmi 3
Redmi 3 was launched in 2016 with Qualcomm MSM8939v2 Snapdragon 616 SoC. Though we are late to the treble party but we finally got treble support thanks to developers
Treble ROM
XDA member @WinKarbik & @ariafan built RR & crDroid treble & everything works mostly. Here I'll talk about crDroid-8.1-20180813 treble
ROM NAME: crDroid Android
Build date: 2018/08/13
ROM OS Version: 8.x Oreo
ROM Kernel: Linux 3.10.x
ROM Firmware Required: Unlocked bootloader, TWRP Treble
Based On: LineageOS
What works
Mostly Everything
What doesn't work
Camera can not save pic in full res. Use Cameringo for now
Links
Rom: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Pm0-GJU3rZSP7-E8C5K24ZTnP7gFxRQ7/view?usp=sharing
Gapps: https://opengapps.org/
TWRP Treble: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-3/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-0-treble-t3830610
How to flash
- Reboot into TWRP
- Take backup of previous ROM in case you want to roll back
- Wipe system, data, cache, delvik, vendor
- Flash ROM & gapps
Flashing GSI
To flash GSI you'll need
- Vendor & boot from any treble ROM. In this case i'll be using crDroid-8.1-20180813 treble vendor & boot. Link here: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903982506
- GSI of your liking. List here : https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
- Gapps (if needed). Link: https://opengapps.org/
- TWRP that supports treble. Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-3/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-0-treble-t3830610
How to flash
- Reboot into TWRP
- Take backup of previous ROM in case you want to roll back
- Wipe system, data, cache, delvik, vendor
- Flash treble-vendor-kernel-ido.zip (AFH link given)
- Flash GSI image as system partition
- Sometimes GSI includes gapps. If it does select reboot system & ignore NO OS Installed message
- If you want to flash gapps & magisk reboot into TWRP again after flashing GSI. Flash gapps & magisk & reboot into system
What works
Mostly Everything
What doesn't work
As original vendor & kernel has camera issue. GSI ROMs will have the same problem.

Firstly ido system partition is small to flash raw p gsi. It won't flash in recovery. Someone reported that he booted p gsi. Bt it has ril bug. Probably other p gsi

This one has 1.18gb -ish system.IMG size. BTW Redmi 4a can handle android p pr1 without any issue so why not Redmi 3? I tried to boot aosp one but it got stuck at bootloop. Hope they find a workaround.

great news, thank you for supporting ido devices.

good job thx for ur work

where can i download RR with treble support??

Hello friend you managed to put Android 9 foot on redmi 3 pro ?

This is brilliant news! I think I'm going to take back my Redmi 3 and start using it again . Unfortunately it is used by a family member now.
I have been trying to find a good article about how to make these unofficial treble projects, but I couldn't really, so I'm not 100% sure what is needed. By checking the first post, I guess it needs a modified kernel and the content of the vendor partition, which contains some kind of binaries for the HAL.
What is the source of these files? Have they been taken from an official Xiaomi ROM (MIUI)? Or are they based on the released (and as far as I know incomplete and buggy) kernel sources which have been sort of fixed by Anik and other members?
I used Anik's LOS 14.1 and 15.1 as well on Redmi 3, but unfortunately they suffered from some random slowdowns and lags for me. I didn't notice this on the official ROMs. So I'm worried that this project would have the same issues if they are based on the same source.

i've tried both of official 14 & unofficial 15 (anik) los. the official lagged much, unofficial had problem with hidden ssid so i didn't get into testing. i'm currently using unofficial rr 20180730 winkarbik. as to this treble said based on los, i don't see any that solves your worry in addition to try to test for yourself.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 10, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.
Introduction:
This is the official Lineage OS thread for the Motorola Moto X4, codename payton.
We support all the T-Mobile, International, and Project Fi variants, as their bootloaders are unlockable, while we can't support the Verizon and AT&T variants, as their bootloaders are permanently locked.
How to install:
Boot the newest TWRP .img from the Official TWRP Project Site.
IF YOU ARE COMING FROM STOCK AND WANT TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROMS FOR FIRST TIME, INSTALL "Copy Partitions Zip" FROM POST #2
In TWRP, click "Wipe", "Format Data", then type "yes" as prompted.
ADB sideload the newest weekly
(Optionally) You can flash the newest TWRP Installer also found at the Official TWRP Project Site if you wish to maintain TWRP, though the pre-installed Lineage Recovery instance will do everything you need it to in most cases. We don't recommend or support the use of the TWRP installer, as it is overwritten on every update (will need to be re-installed every update), and has no addon.d-v2 persistence.
Click "Reboot, then choose "Recovery", this will boot you to either Lineage Recovery or TWRP depending on your choice to install TWRP or not. It is necessary to reboot between ROM flash and GApps/Addon flash due to verity/slot-swap logic.
(Optionally) Flash GApps - MindTheGApps arm64 are recommended, OpenGApps are compatible with A/B as of 09102018, but I still only reccoemend and support MindTheGApps.
(Optionally) Flash SU - you'll need to turn it on from in developer settings after first boot Lineage OS SU Addon. - Magisk works fine, though is not supported.
Reboot
Notes:
Official Lineage OS builds will not pass CTS/SafetyNet -- due to the AVB flag's "red" status. (Magisk works fine, though is not supported.)
Official Lineage OS builds ship with full treble compatibility, with VNDK runtime enforcement! This means that unlike most "ported treble" you'll see, ours is just as it would be from the OEM, and can run any GSI (yes, even Pie!) without need for hacks or additional flashable zips. We relabeled /oem as /vendor (as /oem isn't used in custom ROM's anyway). To use a GSI, flash official Lineage, then flash your GSI, it's that simple! Flashing a factory image will likely write over /oem and remove the mock vendor image. Please don't report GSI bugs here, report them instead to the GSI's maker.

Excellent work! It's impressive that you could get this done when one person didn't have the phone. That's a good ol' fashioned hackathon.

Also happy to report that Magisk works successfully by sideloading the zip in TWRP (Data will not get decrypted when you boot into TWRP after the first boot - just hit cancel to get to the TWRP main menu > Advanced > ADB Sideload and sideload the Magisk ZIP.) SafetyNet passes too! And Google Pay works (finally!!! ...It was broken for me on stock).
Just got set up:
- AOSP firmware flash working on google fi version running 7.1
- Twrp decrypt not working with pin on the linked twrp or 3.2.1.1. Have to remove pin before booting to recovery
- videos recorded are choppy and lag during playback through camera app. I'll check when I install another gallery app but I rarely record so not a huge issue right now.
- bluetooth working well
Liking Lineage so far, especially the dark theme it seems to default to. I'll update with more as I play around with this. Thanks.
Speaker not working
Edit: seems it's just media, not phone
Just ran into an issue, speaker doesn't work with any app I've tried. There is sound with Bluetooth in the same apps. Attached some logcats.

Interesting. Working for me - tested using the Amazon Music app.
Edit: YouTube was used to test as well. However, the speaker volume level across all apps is lower than stock.

Huh, just tried and it stutters and no sound in YouTube. What model are you using and did you have Oreo already? I'm on the Google fiber variant and came from 7.1. maybe I need to upgrade to stock Oreo then flash.

But I wanted to thank you guys SO much for working on this. I see using Lineage as the long-term plan for my phone (and my wife's) but these are our daily drivers and can't afford them to be offline for long. Once it is verified solid, I will likely switch. Thank you again!

Hi, I followed the steps and It booted successfully, everything worked fine but without gapps. I can't install gapps due to an error; "insufficient storage in system partition"
Although the system partition were much larger before installing this image, on miui 10, 11 and mokee.
Any solution?
*EDIT*
If I flash custom magisk boot image, it bootloops. I tried with su, binary needs to be updated but still doesn't work. So no root available in this ROM. Which means no heavy modifications such as xposed
One more thing, recents menu is sometimes laggy, and sometimes doesn't respond. I tried deactivating pixel launcher but its still the same.
Which one would you recommend? Mokee or is it?

Which one would you recommend? Mokee or is it? The difference in performance with respect to MIUI 11 is observed
Well, mokee is official and its nightly so I can't yet judge it but although havoc is unofficial, but it runs perfectly smooth and I'm still testing it and no bugs so far. Everything runs smooth even in games, screen and media. Also camera with gcam mod. So personally I prefer havoc os, too much useful modifications and android 10 has smooth animations. But has no root access. Mokee has built in root but system RO. I tried to make it RW but couldn't. So it's kinda uselees

After testing both, lineage has few features compared to havoc. So havoc is my choice. Also lineage had a laggy notification bar from time to time, only way to fix it is to reboot. And that issue that havoc has, the laggy recents; fix it by doing a clean flash *format all except system and internal/SD*
And I'd recommend resizing system partition before flashing gapps. And bitgapps doesn't work, use any arm android 10 gapps instead
I tried the rom, everything is woking fine but the battery life is worse than android 9
How to get volte in custom gsi?
can i install it using the following commands :
fastboot erase system
fastboot -u flash system img.img ?

crdroid has taken by sujanth so i can focus on improving pe and my official roms
For most new rom
You should be on latest firmware
Due to encryption update format internal storage on flashing
PE changelog
• April security patch (android-11.0.0_r34)
• update tree with los
• kernel upstreamed to latest tag
(link will be update soon)
PE-Plus changelog
• April security patch (android-11.0.0_r34)
• update tree with los
• kernel upstreamed to latest tag
• more patches for eas kernel
• add permission for arcore
note:
remove screenlock before updating
dont flash any kernel on pe plus
Stupid question maybe: if I have been on custom ROMs in the past, but am now on stock pie flashed via the script floating around here - do I need to flash the copy-partitions.zip again to return to custom (to try this one out)?

Ive flashed last version yesterday.
Coming from PEplus 10.
Very nice and smooth so far.
A couple of things.
- Is it possible to add a quick setting button > Screenshot?
- Is it possible to modify the app to get longer Screenshots by pressing down button, as in PE plus? I found that really usefull!
- Im having trouble when flashing Magisk. Everything breaks and I get into bootloop.
Thanks indeed!
Great work.

Does this rom have low volume issues like most other moto x4 roms?
I'm currently running PE 10 Plus. Can I flash PE 11 over it or do I need to do a clean flash? I want to upgrade to 11, but I don't really want to factory reset the phone.
First of all, sorry for my bad english and second, thank you for making this since the official ROM got discontinued. Had been using these Pixel Experience Custom ROMs more than a year since one of the first PE 10 was published.
I noticed that your ROM fixed a lot of bugs (stability issues for example) added necessary options like the camera GO, Google Lens is working for me now, among other things from the official PE 11 ROM.
I don't think I can help financially, but you have my full support and if you are open to suggestions for example to fix some errors that I might find, I am happy to help anytime.
Finally, I would like that for the next update, you could upload the .zip on another platform, such as Mediafire or Google Drive because I had problems downloading it (It took like 2 hours to download and my internet isn't that bad)
Thank you again,
Atom.

Any chance copying the FM Radio app from Lineage OS 18.1 work with Pixel Experience?
Good afternoon. Any specific date for April update? or any Patch Preview?
Thanks in advance.
Any possibility to make AR Services/AR Core work with this PixelExperience ROM? Because when you try to download it from PlayStore it says that "this app isn't compatible with your device anymore" but the application does have support for Motorola x4 just as the official page says (https://developers.google.com/ar/discover/supported-devices).
This is to play games like Pokemon Go without any problem.
Thank you.

Flashable zip to enable encryption is in this post
How to enable encryption
I posted this in Telegram Channel :"One important thing is the encryption thing and I know the majority voted for it to be included but I'm truly sorry to go against the majority as encryption will make my development work much slower and there will be always a risk to lose data from my side which I can't afford. So no force encryption in arrow-12.1 and it won't work unless it was forced at boot(changed in fstab). However I'm planning to provide a flashable file that will enable encryption but it need further testing to make sure everything is working correctly.I hope everyone understand my decision and sorry again if you don't agree with it."Flashing InstructionSteps : Coming from Arrow 12.0 or different ROMs1-Wipe vendor , system , data , cache2- Flash Rom , gapps (for Vanilla version) and magisk (if needed) 3- RebootFrom unofficial Arrow 12.1Drifty flash.
Difference between Arrow 11 and Arrow 12 for our devices :
Kernel is updated from scratch to latest android-4.9 including F2FS
LZ4 was updated to latest available.
Zstd was updated from linux kernel 5.10.
Ok google is fully working (on/off screen)
Google maps no longer zoomed
Cleaned up the trees
Recommend Gapps for vanilla version:
Flamegapps basic
How to make ok google working (Vanilla version)
Flash flamegapps basic
Flash flamegapps addon (search and assistant)
Assign google app as default assistant
Give google app all permissions
Device reboot after selecting usb transfer
In case device reboot when selecting usb transfer you can do the following:
A- Disable usb debugging in developer settings.
Or
B- from developer settings select usb transfer as default usb configuration

It is already mentioned in the OP that , "samsung proprietary apps wont work" in any of the AOSP ROMs. That includes, Samsung Camera also which can not be ported to AOSP ROMs.
N960N can use this rom
Been using this rom for about 4 days now and I must say it's just perfect. So far I haven't encounter any bugs, the performance is great and the ui is stunning. Highly recommend it. Device - Note 9

My apologies if this is the wrong forum thread. I saw the article below.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 can now run Android 12, unofficially
The Samsung Galaxy S9, S9 Plus, and Galaxy Note 9 have received unofficial ports of Android 12 through the ArrowOS custom ROM. Read on!
www.xda-developers.com
I have a "Verizon" Note 9. Is it possible for me to upgrade to Android 12 or is my phone locked? My understanding is that Verizon locks their Samsung phones.
I tried to install it, but it enters the download location and stays, can you help?
I was installing this rom and was coming from noble rom. I did not do a proper wipe after which now the phone is dead. I am not seeing any thing. When I press power button i dont see any thing. Only force restart works (volume down and power button) but after that nothing happens. Any idea how to fix.

Hello,
Post in thread 'MAGISK MODULE ❯ Universal SafetyNet Fix 2.4.0' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/magisk-module-universal-safetynet-fix-2-4-0.4217823/post-88132825
This fork of module "SafetyNet Fix" working for the CTS Profile match (Play Protect Certified Android devices).
Where do I find latest Dynamic TWRP, I got BRPv3.6-Red-twrp.zip from RedmiNote8ProUpdates Telegram link, is that TWRP build ok? Can't find anything when looking for "Dynamic TWRP".
Installed this rom yesterday the way the ts suggested, works great, Battery drain seems gone, flashed it over pixel experience recovery which can be downloaded at the latest official rom on pixel experience site.
Now i want to switch to dynamic twrp because i want to root for making Swift backups
Hooe the ts will continue his good work in the future, my note 8 still rocks
This rom works like a dream on my RN8 Pro! I can hardly believe that they don't want to develop further here. I've used the version here for a few days now and it runs so smooth and I couldn't find any major issues. Runs better than MIUI ever ran for me. I hope you will continue to release updates, because it would be really damn bitter if nobody would support the RN8 anymore. I still think the hardware is really good. There is no reason for me to switch at the moment.
Sorry if I misunderstand, but is this version identical to the final official version of PixelExperience (plus) for Begonia?
Hello guys ,after i download the latest rom i cant locate it in TWRP to flash .Thanks!
Friends passing by to let you know that I installed this unofficial version over the last official one and it worked, no BUG found so far, if any BUG occurs I'll report it to you. Always remembering, install on top at your own risk, as a clean install is always recommended!

I use the official PE recovery and install every zip by sideload method.
In your case, just flash Magisk zip by sideload and it will be root
