(Urgent reply)is it advisable to buy this phone??? - Xiaomi Redmi 5 Questions & Answers

Wanna buy this phone for brother , for usual teen ****.. insta,Fa,PUBG etc.
Are there any other good options available? Note5 is out of stock. Honor7c comes to mind , what are your thoughts on that?
Budget is 10k
Thankful for every suggestion

i don't know but the honor 7c is stronger since it has 4gb ram and comes with oreo and is 2018 while the redmi 5 has 2 variants 2 or 3gb ram, as far as cpu goes i think they have the same cpu but still both phones are great, right now i;m using redmi 5 3gb ram and i have to say the optimization is great, all apps run very smooth and the phone works great overall but if we'd go for performance i believe the honor 7c 4gb ram is a little bit better, but if you're gonna choose between redmi 5 3gb and honor 7c 3gb then defenitely choose redmi 5, cuz it has bigger battery and works more smoothly, but if you can afford the 4gb ram huawei then defenitely choose the huawei, just my opinion though, good luck

Usage Time is enough to Cover the whole Day with a Internet Connection. You can be on YouTube for straight 6 Hours and more, I was not even nearly at the End of Charge.
The Front Camera is Fine, the Back camera is astonishing.
The Loudspeaker is quietly Brilliant. Also the Screen can prove with Brilliance and Clarity.
The Update Notifications will bother you. I have encountered something with an Update, see at Q&A. Approximately 2 GB of Updates to do in sum.
Root is provided, Diversity in User-Rom is not expect, we have little Developers.
UI is flawless.
Can't say anything about Playing.
Connectivity is very High.

Hello, i want to change this days my phone and i first looked at the Zenfone 3 ZE520KL but now i discovered Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro 3gb+32gb (Qualcomm) and i really really want to know more about it. I will use it in Romania, it's the "kenzo" good ? I want this one because i see a lot's of custom roms and i love the Cyanogenmod or RR. How's the battery, daily performance, gaming performance and battery performance ? I don't care to much about the camera. Thanks a lot for the answers ! :good:
If you don't care too much about the camera,I personally think that the redmi note 3 snapdragon 650 variant(2 or 3 gb) is great.
The kenzo refers to the redmi note 3 with a snapdragon 650 processor, sometimes called the redmi note 3 pro.
battery life is great. You could easily get 9 to 12+ hours depending on your setup and usage. Daily performance is smooth, there are very few, if any stutters or lags. I don't know about gaming, because I don't play very intensive games, unless ppsspp counts. If it helps, playing ppsspp is smooth, and there are no lags or stutters when playing, unless you intentionally speed up the emulation, where the game stutters a bit.

I Recently bought this device, The 32GB SD variant and the performance of this device is like HELL Awesome!
The gaming performance is amazing like it can handle all games without any lag.
I played Nova 3, Asphalt 8, Gta San Andreas, Dead Tigger 2, Over killed, Nba, Sbk 2k16 and also some games on the psp emulator(PPSSPP) WITHOUT ANY LAG! TRUST ME.
The Camera performance is also amazing but not in bad lighting but still it's awesome. You can record videos in full HD (1080p). The camera doesn't seem to have auto stabilization but if you use a tripod than the quality is just amazing. The front facing camera is also good, Can take awesome selfies and I don't have anything bad to say about this.
The battery backup is also amazing... JUST Amazing! It last me around 20-23 hrs with heavy usage.
The display is also amazing and sharp you can watch YouTube videos in 1080p.
The fingerprint works gr8!
The only problem is that we just get about 1.3gb of Ram available out of 3gb but still I never notice any lag on this device.
The reason behind this Ram issue is the MIUI!
MIUI takes a hell lots of Ram as it's a custom ui but its optimization is well like I never notice any lag while surfing the phone/web or even while playing heavy games.
Still if you think that this is a problem for you then you can always flash a custom ROM on your device.
I think MIUI will improve there Ram optimization while updates. So don't need to worry.
Overall believe me if you gonna buy this device than YOU GOT THE BEAST IN YOUR HANDS!!!

Thanks for the reply I know the MIUI isn't the greatest android, thats why if i'm going to get this device i will install the Cyanogenmod or RR in the first day. But how about the screen ? I read that we dont have any screen protection...
its tempered glass i put another nillkin h+pro glass on top of it anyway. but the original its scratch resistant...just like gorilla glass.
and miui isnt bad actually...its pretty nice, dont worry about RAM though, SD650 is really powerful so even if it loads from CPU its fast

Xiaomi did not reveal the details about glass protection they used. Instead they said, the glass is scratch resistant has equivalent protection as same as gorilla glass provides.

The lag is killing me

Hey all!
I'm very curious. My Honor 5X is unbelievably slow (read: laggy) despite having 2 gigs of RAM and the Snapdragon 616 - which is an octacore chip for God's sake.
I can't even explain how terrible the experience is. Sometimes I can't even pick up calls. Opening system apps like Dialer, contacts etc takes 6-8 seconds - YES, SECONDS - on average. This has been since Day 1.
I attributed the lag to buggy software (Huawei's official ROM) and switched to Lineage OS 14.1 but damn there has been absolutely no improvement.
Many people suggested clearing the cache, removing unused apps (the age old advice for android users) when the phone gets slow but I don't have more than 25 apps (which is restraint on my part), I make sure there's no clutter, wipe the caches regularly but still nothing.
I started blaming the Snapdragon 616 for this when switching to LineageOS didn't work. Didn't let anyone I know buy a phone with Snapdragon's 600 line of SoCs but it just doesn't make sense. My friend's Moto G4 has the Snapdragon 617 and it works fine. Even the Moto Z Play has the Snapdragon 625 and its one of good mid rangers on the market!
Need your opinions on what the problem could be.
Also if anyone here has the Huawei Honor 5X, how has your experience been with this absolute **** excuse for a phone?
I'm on LineageOS 14.1 latest nightly and opening the dialer takes probably 1 or 2 seconds max.
It really feels like your phone has a hardware problem if wiping everything doesn't make it better.
The phone is pretty snappy in day to day use for me, not fast like a Pixel or a OP5 but still pretty damn fast.
I don't have much apps in the background either.
Consider using your warranty to see if the phone is not defective.
I have it and often switch roms. I experience lags but not as severe as yours.
EMUI is laggy, but custom roms works good with this device. Fluid enough as a daily driver. May be your hardware is getting somewhat inefficient. 5x is my first and last buy from huwaei.

Default setting of that is 1x. There should be no problems with that.
The 617 and 625 are more superior to 616. However, try to factory reset, if it's still the same, ask for a replacement immediately if you have warranty.
try to flash the stock rom again clearing all data and everything.. then flash a custom rom..

Have you tried slim rom, aokp or other. Can give a try

Probably, if it has a slow read/write speed and it's full. It won't slow it that much where it's noticable

Yes only if you are accessing files that are stored on SD card.
A lower class SD card will generally have slow write/read speeds.

Talking about lag, why would you even be on stock EMUI ROM on honor 5x? EMUI is a heavy skin for a low end SD 616 CPU.
The only way to get rid of those lags is to install a custom ROM. Period.

How about removing the sd card and test for sometimes. If it makes any difference then you got the root cause. If it doesn't then something on your firmware causing which you can test further with installing custom rom, crdroid, aosp based, slim rom, aokp etc

My phone is j5 prime 32gb. It just lags whenever it gets hot, even google maps lag. After gaming for a few minutes, there would always be big framerate drop. I know that this is a throttling issue, can anyone pls help to prevent the cpu from throttling?

Overall speed

Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The 8GB model is blazing fast! Note8 stays far behind.
Amazing
Insane. Way better than my Note8 and that phone was quick!

Blazing fast!! No lag in sight. And I'm not even in performance mode, which I always was in with the Note8.
I would say it's significantly faster than any other Android device I've owned. Apps load much faster, network performance is about 4x faster on average than my prior phone, even system updates are faster.

I have the 8GB model and my partner has the 6GB and we did some testing the other day and there was no real difference. Had 30 apps open as well as Spotify streaming whilst downloading a torrent via uTorrent and neither model showed any signs of lag/delay. I'm starting to think that the 8GB version is a bit over kill, maybe in the future we could utilise it when playing game's or what not.
TLDR, if you looking at buying the Note9 and don't the need the extra storage space just get the 6GB version, can always get an SD card.
6gb is same as 8 gb.... Just get 6gb it is cheaper.
This is great info. Im coming from the S9 and at time this thing is slow.
Was stunned to get 100Mbps deep in a building
Definitely faster than any other android device I've had. Coming from s7 edge. All specs and day to day use so far blows everything else out the water. Just got mines Saturday. 128gb with 6gb of ram

RN3Pro consistantly lagging, no matter what rom it runs

Hello!
Recently I have been having issues with my phone. I have already tried multiple oreo roms from "The best gaming rom" thread, but none of them worked perfectly for over a month. Every one started to lag, and randomly crash/restart without SIM PIN input (right to the lock screen) when I am not aware of it at all. I am also having issues with camera which almost always crashes, when taking pictures - could it be related to lag? ... Anyway even with custom kernels, clearing cache and many other RAM management (greenify) apps, I am without succes. I own 2/16 model, but I always have at least 300 mb free RAM. Is my phone dying? Could it be NAND storage related?
Best regards!
Try with 1gb or 1.5gb of ZRAM
Ps: do you try update firmware with fastboot?
2gb ram phones just don't cut these days. The UIs these days are becoming very heavy, and too much for 2gigs of ram. Having owned 1 myself. I know they're only good for sometime.
Hey,
I own 3GB model and its lag hell on every oreo ROM. I did little research and come to know that most oreo ROM fails to get deep sleep. I tried Greenify but its not working. Then I check RAM usage and after opening few apps it express 2 GB usage and only 300 to 500 MB free left. So may be this is reason your phone lag on every oreo as It always use up to 2.1 GB RAM (as I remember, before it was around 1.6 GB on nougat)
I've got an aging Redmi Note 3 16GB/2GB RAM that has started lagging. It's just that 2GB RAM phones can't keep up in 2018. Your best bet would be going back to official MIUI 10 or old Nitrogen 7.1.2 Nougat for the 2GB variant.
Thank you for your answers. I guess there's no good ROM for oreo (yet).
+1 for the ones said before me: 2G of RAM is nothing, that was nothing when this phone was launched, sometimes I feel 3G is still not enough for everthing but I would be crazy if I had only 2G of RAM. If you go back to the original miui of RN3, that might be optimizd for the config, but forget any hope for using oreo or pie.
I own a 2gb kenzo, staying on a good N rom with zram at 512 mb, never had lags (I'm not a gamer).
I've sometimes faced some lags in O (rare) and P (more frequent). My impression is that 2gb varian has to run N roms.

Question Laggy UI and bad real world performance

I recently went from a oneplus 5 to the nord 200 when I switched to t-mobile because of the free promotion. Before I got it I did a little bit of research on the processor and storage speed and didn't expect much of a difference in performance because the snapdragon 480 seems to be fairly powerful and the nord has the same UFS 2.1 storage as my old phone.
I was pretty disappointed to find in my use the phone about 1/2 the time the phone was pretty sluggish in the general user experience and app launch times were significantly longer. May be placebo, but I disabled digital wellbeing, and all the tmobile bloatware and it may have helped a little. I remember reading oneplus heavily throttled some of their phones in recent history. I may switch back to my old phone.
I know the device is relatively new, do you guys think it will get better with software updates or is this just how it is?
I found turning on "Mobile data always active" in the developer options massively improved performance in my apps (at least where online load times and download speeds in-game were concerned)
Did you just get your phone recently? After setting up this phone for the first time, I also noticed the device was extremely slow, with all the app and software updates happening in the background. After all the updates were installed, I turned the phone off for about a day, and performance went to normal. It's not as fast as a flagship and there are minor hiccups here and there, but that's about what I expected from a 400 series SoC.
My original report was the day after I set everything up, I disabled the permissions for the launcher which did improve the responsiveness of the launcher, but application performance and launch times are still slow compared to my old device and not what I would expect from a phone of this spec.
I'm pretty confident this phone is a victim of oneplus' recently reported throttling for battery life. I was curious and compared geekbench scores (which aren't throttled under oneplus' list) and both the nord and my oneplus 5 got fairly similar scores for both cpu and compute. I tried out a browser benchmark motionmark which benches graphics performance. The nord got a 25 and the oneplus 5 got a 189... I ran the test again to make sure but got similar results.
That graphics should be coming from gpu and not cpu though....
I tested cpu and compute on geekbench, compute is a measure of gpu performance. The nord scored a little higher than the 5 in that.
I would assume oneplus' throttling would effect cpu and gpu but even if not, my oneplus 5 scoring almost 8x as high does not seem anywhere near normal

Same experience here, i picked up this phone expecting at least a decent experience but still get bad slow not usable for everyday tasks sometimes.
Im not expecting a flagship performance of course but this is far from decent in my experience.
I hope android 12 will solve many performance issues. Or custom fw
I'm about to throw away this phone into trash. Did not expect so weak dev community activity. The laggy interface is almost unusable if you constantly swap between apps and find them unloaded from RAM. All my text or uploaded content just disappear. It is very frustrating experience. I never had this behaviour with my 2/32 gb xiaomi.

If you're really at your wit's end, have you considered installing a GSI? I've tried Phh's AOSP w/ gapps, and once you register your device with Google, it works flawlessly (except safetynet/drm) and is a million times faster than stock. Or I'd be more than happy to take your device off your hands.

You know, custom ROMs don't just appear out of thin air. Someone has to take the time to bring up a device and make it stable, and it's not an easy task. I would say to be patient and just accept the fact that there's no guarantee that this device will get custom ROMs.

Other than pictures from the camera being degraded compared to stock and having to install apps from the Play Store/changing a few settings in the Settings app, everything seems to work fine
