How did they manage putting the SD845 in an affordable body?? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

I was stunned to learn about this phone's chipset, a Snapdragon 845. How is that possible? The last flagship processor in a budget budget phone was the red magic correct me if I am incorrect. It is so amazing...

These are the areas where they cut corners IMO. It's not an attractive phone like the Note 9 or iPhone X, so using poly whatever probably saved a lot of money.
No NFC, IP Certification, OIS/EIS, glass/metal unibody, OLED, QHD and HDR10 panel. It features limited bands, USB2.0, Gorilla 3, and QC3 instead of QC4.

I can happily live without most of those features. The lack of OIS/EIS, USB 3.0 and QC4 are the only disappointments for me personally out of those you mentioned.
But to list some things you missed, there seems to be the absence of an IR blaster and RGB notifcation light which are bigger problems for me. I think it is stupid to exclude both of these features and also NFC, because the technology is extremely cheap and easy to implement.
I can totally understand missing out on other features like OLED, QHD and the glass/metal unibody because those are all unneccasary and would add considerably more to the overall cost.

The most highend phones are ~200$ devices.
5 years ago you get a OnePlus One for 299€ with 64GB. Samsung, LG, HTC and any other brand got 16GB and for 16GB more they take +100€. If you jump from 16GB to 64GB you need to pay 180 up to 250€ more
Production: 16GB 12$, 32GB 20$ and 64GB 35$
5 years ago... Remember at this time 100$ was ~60€
NFC is <1$
4000 mAh <9$
IR <1$
3.5mm jack <1$
Camera 15-25$
64GB emmc 5.1 <15$
64GB ufs 2.1 <20$
Snapdragon 845 ~20$
1080p IPS <20%
1080p Amoled >40$

USB type-C is just the port/cable like apples lightning. if it is usb 2 usb 3 or usb 3.1 gen1 or usb 3.1 gen 2 is all different story. even some expensive phones have usb 2 with type-c

No it doesn't. The only 'IR blaster' this device has is for the facial recognition, and I doubt that would work for controlling appliances. Even if it did, it would be impractical because you'd have to hold the phone backwards whilst using it.

Though they might not want to risk cannibalising the Xiaomi mi9 market (though the differentiator could be AMOLED/LCD, or some aspect of external appearance)

SONY Xperia Z Ultra 2/3 [Desired Specs]-For Better Devices of the Near Future!

SONY Xperia Z Ultra 2 [Desired Specifications]-To Encourage Better All-In-One Phones for the Future
I have been looking at developments in mobile phones and the current XZU/ZU GPe and some of the Chinese competition to the big brands and decided to make the following list of desired features in a near-future phablet. I believe a phablet with all the below listed features will definitely be the Ultimate Mobile Phablet. I hope that someone from SONY or any other competitive brand will take notice of the desired specification below to create the best phablet that will stand out from the crowd. My aim is to encourage discussion and draw the attention of manufacturers and I really hope that someone will take notice.
I have also read on various blogs online and also read on XDA that there is a rumour that the XZU/ZU GPe may be discontinued and that a successor may not be released. I really hope that this is not the case and that SONY will release a device that will put all the wrongs of the 1st gen device right and better them. There is not much wrong with the form factor of this device. what is wrong is SONY's implementation or non implementation (lack of led flash, stylus) of features that are important to a growing userbase that is keen to use one device as an all-in-one phone and tablet user.
Given how much space is wasted on the construction of the XZU/ZU GPe, I have decided that since there is not much difference between 6.45" and 6.95" that this size be the most optimum/maximum size for the Phablet category of devices and that any device that starts with 7.0" or above to be in tablet category so I hope that I won't be criticised for this choice of screen size. Furthermore, with the rest of the specification I have tried to be as realistic as possible given the current implemenations of most of the technologies listed below by many well known and Asian manufacturers (ZTE Nubia X, ZOPO, LG, Huawei, Alcatel One Touch Hero, Vivo and many others) Enjoy the reading and have fun!

One thing with the xperia range is that a friend of mine left her's on the roof of her car car over the weekend, came off at ~80km. Battery stayed intact and she could find it with GPS. Try that with a removable battery.

I would like the size to remind the same so if they can increase screensize without making it much bigger then cool. Wont mind it either way really.
As far as I am concerned, I wont mind it to still be 1080p. Too many people playing the numbers game
 Integrated Wacom or N-trig Active Digitizer Stylus
That would be cool!
 Qualcomm® Snapdragon™805/810 with 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor with Krait 400
Better be 810 by the time if comes out but more important that the new CPU speed...can we get a damn processor that runs cool enough where it does not slow down. Whats the point of super fast processor that can only run that speed for a few minutes before having to slow down due to thermal issues?
 Integrated Glasses Free 3D Content Viewing
I love 3D!
 3GB RAM
agree
 32GB/64GB/128GB Internal Memory Options
Agree
 MicroSD Slot with up to 128GB Expandable Capacity
For sure...no google style nonsense here without MicroSD slots
 Dual Dolby Surround Sound Stereo Speakers and 3.5mm Jack
could be cool but the sounds is going to be lame anyway..its physics lol
 Primary: 20.7Mp 4K, OIS, Auto Focus, Dual LED Camera with Simultaneous HD Video and Image Recording, Geo-Tagging, Touch Focus, Face and Smile Detection, Image Stabilization, Panorama, HDR
As a photographer, what I want to see is at most a 12MP camera , wouldnt mind if it was 8MP in order to get better low light quality. I dont care for this silly MP race in such tiny sensors. When I want and need a big quality image, I use my camera.
 Integrated Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Dual-Band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi Hotspot
 Integrated GPS with A-GPS/GLONASS Support
 Accelerometer, Gyro, Proximity, Compass

 Mini HDMI with MHL Integration
 MicroUSB 3.0 with USB On-the-go, USB Host and Magnetic Charging

I am willing to sacrifice thickness for a removable battery!

Because Samsung settles with subpar build quality. Sony does - or tries, not to.

If it has a removable back and battery it could only be water resistant, not waterproof. Unless they come up with some new tech that makes the back cover seal each time, which I doubt would happen anytime soon on a smartphone.
This phone doesn't need to be any bigger than it already is. I have huge hands and it still stretches me a bit and I have to use both hands sometimes. I will definitely not be getting the new one if the size increases. Also it's too thin. Yes it is sexy, yes it is sleep and it might be the thinnest or whatever, but that inevitably causes it's downfall which is why so many were/are cracking from being in the pockets. If it's going to be so thin, it needs to be more rigid, or just make it flex!
Not So Finally.....BEZELS!!! OMG!!! I understand why they are so huge at the top and bottom, but damn they could have at least made them off the screen, just like the ION. Damn I miss that phone for that feature. Next ZU should have OFF SCREEN navigation buttons like the ION did.
I don't personally use Flash, but at least put a better/Great camera on the thing!!!
16GBs is way too small!!! It's 2014, WTF SONY?!!! From Last year onward, NO HIGHEND SMARTPHONE SHOULD HAVE ANY LESS THAN 32GB of freakin' STORAGE MEMORY!!!! MY DAMN FLASHDRIVE HAS MORE THAN MY FREAKING PHONE!!! It classified as an Entertainment Device is it not?! At least that's what the lady in the promo video and photos was using it for!!! Can't watch all them movies with 16GBs! And yes I know that's what an SDCard is for. That's why I own one. But it would be nice to have more device storage!
Cases!!! It needs cases!!!
A waterproof devices with removable battery is possible. But it won't be as thin nor as solid.
I'm afraid 7" is a bit to big for me. Used to owned 2 7" phone enable tablet. But it's too wide for the pockets.
I also owned the T2 ultra as well, it's an impressive device which fix most of ZU problem but add in a few mid ranger problem as well.
I would be happy if the Z2U has a bigger screen but at the same width, a flash, better camera, 2 front facing stereo speakers and a 64bit processor.
Not sure if I want a 2k screen. The T2 can lass at least 10 hours of screen on time at the same battery capacity as the ZU. I also happens to own the vaio pro 11 during the fire sales. Do hope sony bring carbon fibre to the xperia lines.

Dual sim, 64gb & 128gb internal memory, Dolby, Quad microphone, 13mp Secondary camera, Removable battery all are too much to expect, and I doubt would happen in the next ultra device.
6.2 inch with QHD, IPS kind of Z2 (lower power i suppose), 3400mAh battery, snapdragon 805, 3GB of RAM, thicker profile max at 7mm, no shatter proof sheet, dual stereo speaker like Z2, and 13mp with 2x clear zoom (or 5mp downsampled quality) Then I'm sold. Big bezel down and top, that's ok, as long as there are speakers below.
Sent from my C6802 using XDA Free mobile app
Has to have a very good front facing camera for them selfies.
..
Must be 6 mm thick.
Hi-fi sound.
2 speakers or a decent one. Heck the speakers may resemble the looks of 4k bravia tv's speakers, there is room for it.
21 mp first camera, 5 mp front.
Paypal enabled fingerprint sensor.
6.2" qhd screen.
Fast charging.
Must keep the top and bottom bezels or hello to ghost touches.
Make it more fingerprint friendly please.
The outer frame can be metallic but not shiny (apple slate) not black.
Camera shutter button would be great.
Snapdragon 805.
3 gigs of ram.
Noise cancellation earphones out of the box.
More cases.
And a goodbye letter to galaxy note 4 in a romantic way.

Well, i said it because Nubia X-6 has almost the same spec as op desired (not all but some)...like 13mp front and back, 4+++ mah battery, 2 and 3 gb ram, 2 sims, 32,64,128gb memory....same size 6.44 inch...and some...
I like the Chinese to make these kinda phone cause the olden day's they make crappy and clone phone, but now they have step up the game to make their own signature phone and what i like about them is they will put everything inside to max the hardware...all known branded manufacturer will put some of the thing big but keep some mediocre, maybe to make it not to expensive...
What i think if sony do that with their flagships, i think people will switch to sony in a flash...i know i will...

Cough 20nm cough. "25 percent less power consumption compared to SoCs built on a 28nm process while not compromising on performance."
"the Exynos 5430 supports display resolutions of WQHD (2560×1440) and WQXGA (2560×1600)"
we'll be seeing some pretty nice battery life, from the looks of it.

Absolutely. I really like the size and CPU Power-supposedly all these cores can run simultaneously when needed but Samsung
IMO overestimated importance of thin device.
If it was 9 or 10 mm thick and had 2400- 2600 Mah Battery, SD Card and a larger Camera Sensor , USB 3.0 , 3 GIG RAM, the Phone could be great.
I am hoping for an Alpha Pro which features the above in a thicker Device for people who need Power of a Note 3 or Note 4 but are too Athletic/ Active to carry a Phablet .
What do you think-it will cost the same as Note 4- .

You should just wait for zerolemon to come out with an extended battery for the Alpha. A 3000-4000 mah battery would last you very long.
If it costs as much as a Note 4, I would honestly rather have an Iphone 6 or an S5(its surprisingly the smallest among the new android flagships).

Yes, by current Standards an S5 and especially S4 at about 5.4 Inches tall is a fairly small Device.
The Alpha is in another size category , however, as is the Sony Z3 Compact.
When you put an S4 or an S5 in a protective Case, they are much too large for me carry and be active.
The large screens are more fragile also. 4.7" screen is max for me on a 5.2" Device.
Apple used 4.7" screen on Iphone6 but surprisingly Iphone6 may be 5.5" Tall Device S5 Size .
I hope the Devs here come up with a USB Stick back up storage APP direct from phone.
But yes , if I purchase Alpha I will use your suggestion for larger Backplate/Battery.
Thanks.

Poco F2 expectations??

Hey everyone. Poco f1 has been a revolutionary smartphone. Judging by Flipkart's offer, the F2 is around the corner. Tell me ur expectations. What would you like to see differently in the 2nd gen poco??
Personally, I would like to see
> An Amoled display( A differentiating feature between flagships and killer. So an Amoled panel is a must to bring it to terms with other phones)
> No notch or dew drop notch( I think the ir face unlock can be skipped, I'll even take big bezels instead of the notch)
> A 5000mah battery( a bit greedy but it makes sense for a phone which is going to come with SD 855 and liquid cooling. Big battery. Longer gaming sessions.)
> Finally an aggressive price tag like the F1. 25k would be the sweet spot considering a newer chip and a switch to amoled.
Very excited for F2's launch. So what do u guys think??
NFC + amoled
I think nfc is a bit far fetched
a touchscreen that works properly out of the box?!
AMOLED screen (Widevine L1 support would be appreciated!), teardrop notch or full-fledged top bezel, and less rounded corners. If the F2 really needs to have rounded corners, I'd rather have them be tastefully done like the Redmi Note 5 Pro or the Oneplus 6. The current corners are atrocious.
I vote for OIS on camera....
Better Quality Checked
QHD
AMOLED screen
EDL mode
Removable Battery
IR
Verified Boot support
Ois and oled
Amoled screen
As long as it is not **** like Poco f1 it will be OK. NFC?
NFC costs pennies to implement. Why not?
AMOLED screen would be nice, ir blaster too.
Keep the micro SD slot.
4000 mah battery is nice, but why not go bigger?
It won't be waterproof, but that would be nice
The f2 will face stiff competition though, being up against the very aggressively priced Lenovo z5 pro gt, which itself reminds me of the mi8 to the Pocophone F1.
Amoled screen, nfc ,ois, sd855, tiny hole selfie camera, wide angle camera on backside instead of deep sense, and aluminum frame. And also keep headphone jack, microsd card support, led notification.
Ip68 water resistant and glass body for wireless charging is unnecessary for most user.
Poco F1 + smaller notch + NFC + same price + available within next three month = instant buy
OIS + Waterproof
now that leaks are pointing towards a sd 845, i seriously hope that a plus or a pro version exists with better features and base price of 25k
The one that leaked in geekbench has the sd 845 and not the 855. I’m sincerely hoping this is not the f2 but I wouldn’t mind if there is a plus version.
Firstly, the regular poco f2 should stick to lcd, 4000 mah battery, and same camera with telephoto or wide angle. This model should come in 6/64(20k) and 8/128(23k) only.
Secondly if there is a plus version and I do think there will be one. It should come with amoled, 5000 mah battery and slightly better cameras. This model should have 3 variants. 6/64(25k), 6/128(27k) and 8/256(31k).
I think this pricing makes total sense. This way they have a super cheap option like the f1 and also a much improved one while also staying substantially cheaper than one plus 7(around 40k)
Something that I want common for both is an unobtrusive notch(dew drop or punch hole), qc4(maybe), nfc(if xiaomi is serious about european markets coz it doesn’t matter in India, I would love to see a metal back or glass but plastic makes most sense( maybe kevlar coloured variants or just go the blackberry route with super grippy backs), less rounded corners(more elegance please) and keep the good stuff from the f1(aggressive pricing, headphone jack, good custom development, liquid cooling, skip ir face unlock and stick with physical fingerprint sensor(coz indisplay one is still finicky and slow)stereo speakers(a little better) and micro sd support).

Why?
I loved my Moto Maxx(turbo) ... Current Poco screen feels downgrade
IR Blaster is useful at home .... you can control everything at Home without costly wifi stuff.
The removable battery makes the devices more sustainable !!
Too costly bro

I know the screen on poco f1 is not good. But QHD is too costly and I don't see it being done simply because none of the competition is doing it. Also, isn't a 1080p amoled cheaper than a QHD IPS? The sensible upgrade would be a 1080p amoled. But if they wanna go extremely competitive they should go for a good LCD display. Even the ones on Redmi's had no issue.
Moto Maxx was awesome for its time, but I don't think now's the time for QHD under 25k.
IR blaster is a welcome addition. I loved it on my Mi Max and no one is doing removable batteries anymore. I would love to see them make a comeback but as there is such an emphasis on design nowadays that manufacturers opt for sleek devices.
OIS Camera

NFC is useless in PH, but why not

Not impressed by Note 10

I know there is someone who always has one post like this for every new model released, so this time I couldn't resist to post this.
Samsung removed these features that were available on Note9 from Note10:
- MicroSD slot
- Headphone jack
- Higher res display
- 2nd selfie cam
- Heart rate sensor
- Bixby button(thank you)
This is in addition to removal of:
- IR blaster in S7 and later models
- Iris unlock in S10 and later models
- Notification LED in S10 and later models
- Removable battery in S6 and later models
- Locked bootloader in North American S7 and later models
This looks like a downhill slope, copying other companies' business model and increasing prices at the same time. I do not see how anyone would be excited with these new iterations.
The only advantage you get from newer models is faster CPU/GPU and in some cases faster radio that's about it.
Samsung should remember what happened to NOKIA's phone business. I hope the US Note 10 at least comes with dual SIM slot since they got rid of microSD in smaller Note 10 version. Also I can't believe we need to buy the 45W charger separately and that is only available on the + model!

They also introduced UFS 3.0 storage which has to be much faster than UFS 2.1
Yes that is a welcome addition. I think S10 5G also has UFS 3.0

I can understand why some people aren't so blown away by the new Note 10, but in reality the Note 10 plus is the real successor to the Note 9.
Since the Note 8, the Note series has been a slight iterative upgrade of that years S series flagship, so again, someone coming from the S10+, may not see a need to ditch that for the Note 10/plus.
However, I'm upgrading this year from my 2 year old Note 8 to the Note 10 plus 5G, and I couldn't be happier. What's not to like about this device?
Im getting a vastly improved camera experience, as in, low light shooting, wide angle lens, better stabilisation, new depth sensing with the TOF module, which now allows me to carry out 3D mapping and modelling, a feature previously only available on very expensive specialist cameras.
I get faster storage that's been increased 4 fold, double the RAM memory, more resilient hardware with a stainless steel instead of aluminium frame, and Gorilla glass 6 instead of 5.
I get an improved S pen with added functionality which will increase my productivity, sure, some of it seems gimmicky at the moment, but will surely be expanded on by developers in the future.
DeX has been improved, allowing greater and more seamless integration with my laptops and PC's, and we've still to see if any improvements have been made to Linux on DeX, but the increased RAM and faster storage won't hurt.
As for gaming, the improved cooling system, the additional RAM, faster storage and integration with a PC are not to be sniffed at.
And last but not least, I'm doing my bit to save the planet. Because the small iterative changes that Samsung and other manufacturers are making to their devices means that I keep them longer, my upgrade cycle has increased from 1 to now 2 years, possibly moving to 3.
It's all good.
The frame is aluminium. Samsung updated their website. It did say steel originally.
The Note 10+ does have micro sd, QHD display etc. It only lacks the headphone jack which is inexcusable, as it just so they can up sell their galaxy buds.
Yes the smaller and cheaper Note 10 does have several downgrades to the Note 10+, but it’s cheaper.
My view is Samsung is trying to make the Note range more appealing to a more wider audience. Tech geeks represent a small market share.
And specs don’t mean everything. It’s the user experience. I’m sure this will be a great phone in real usage. Look at that screen, with a stylus too that has added functions.
There are many phones with better specs in some areas, but that doesn’t meant it equates to a better phone. Software matters too.

I agree on all of this sans the headphone jack. I know we each have opinions but in reality one less hole for my pocket lint is a good thing and frankly the dongle thing isn't that bad given the wireless charging. I'm sure someone also sells adaptors that allow charge and 3.5mm.
I just don't get why it's such a big deal. Also isn't the DA usually better via the C port?

I have the best wireless headphones and earphones. But you cannot beat wired headphones for quality. Also wired don’t need charging.
The biggest inconvenience for me is external mics. Bluetooth adds latency and usb c adapters aren’t perfect either.

However pretty much every you tube video does mention it. Guess Samsung didnt figure it was that big of a deal but its definitely a nice to have.

You might want to double check the stainless steel thing... It's actually aluminium.
The real reason for dropping the headphone socket is the obsession with thinness. It allowed them to make the 10 thinner than the 9.
I'd rather have the phone a mm or two thicker - keep the headphone socket and room for a bigger battery.
Downhill slope? I say Samsung hit on the head with the Note10 and Note10+ I know so many people who want the stylus but not the "size" of a Note. The Note10 is significantly small in hand feel and in dimensions but with just a .1 inch smaller screen size. The plan was for me to get a Note10+ while wife and kid would get the S10+ and S10. The second they saw the Note10 in person and realized they can have a stylus in a smaller phone they passed up on the S10 phones...
They do not care for the SD card and any user who does care for it would go for the Note10+ anyways.
The above is my experience too. My wife needed a new phone, her ZX1 Compact was getting a little old. She likes small phones.
I thought she might like the S10e, but when she saw the Note 10 she wanted that.

Yes that is one positive step and even I like the Note 10's size. The issue however is that it does not retain the flagship features. It comes with a lower-res display and lack of microSD and ToF camera, should have called it Note 10-

Note 10 was debloated ? just like you remove crap from software, they removed crap from hardware. I personally dont care about any of the stuff they removed. And I would also get rid of tele camera

Oppo Reno 10x zoom OR Asus 6z (Zenfone 6)

Both are available at approx 25000 INR (335 US$). I am planning to buy either of the above in a day or two. Hoping to keep the device for 2-3 years.
I would be using it for recording videos (YouTube), occasional gaming, Watching Netflix & youtube.
I am leaning towards Reno 10x, only thing missing is the headphone jack. I keep hearing negative reviews about Color OS.
Depending on the version of the ZenFone you'll likely have less ram and storage, a not as nice screen but still good ips display, and the camera system is prone to not staying in its place (fast moment of the phone and the cam module flaps loose)
I've had one since launch - great phone with a clean software experience but lacking in some areas. But better on battery life than the oppo Reno 10x zoom if you're gaming/watching videos also the headphone output from the 3.5 is way better

10x eats the Zen for breakfast.
OS is excellent as it is close to Android stock. Camera is solid and battery life is at least 60 hours through normal use.
3.5 headphone jack better? Ha ha. No. The USB-C headphones supplied with the phone are amazing and provide digital output whereas 3.5 jacks are analogue. I use a USB-C adapter to connect to the car stereo and it's perfect (both provide lossless audio quality anyway but USB-C is clearer).
What is a "good iOS display"? It's not an iPhone!!
Thanks for that making fun - gboard auto corrected my ips with ios (didnt review what i typed). Also your view on audio being clearly because its type c is erm ok...

Lol...no problem. It was a little bit confusing!
About audio...it's just my opinion and experience based on 40 years of listening to music. I find the USB-C is better, but then it could be a matter of personal taste. I was very unsure about not having a 3.5mm audio jack, but really happy with what I have. I never think about it. Maybe it's all part of just moving with the times?

Also ur getting double storage for same price.
6z is only available in 64gb variant in India as of right now. all other are out of stock.
Instead of 6z , go for realme x2 pro, which will also be available in the same price range in sale.
I wouldn't recommend Oppo device mainly cuz of ****ty ota support. Choose OnePlus
