Interesting finding, thanks for that! The question now would be: Do you really FEEL the difference in everyday context? Like browsing the web, writing stuff, switching windows, watching videos (playing games )? Or is only a benchmark ("look what a monster my device is") thing?

If you compare it directly to the non-hdmi experience then yes you will "feel" it. It still is a smooth experience - just not "buttery" smooth. The performance is still acceptable for most things outside of the most demanding apps and games.
Interesting to note that while most things will be mirrored, playing videos using the default video app plays it only through hdmi. A 4K video I took was not mirrored and thus played perfectly over hdmi. Youtube and netflix were mirrored on both screens, and never got to high resolution like it does on my roku/xbox./ps3.

My question is what kind of quality should I expect from the Note 3 ?
I just tried it and it's pretty bad, it shows the desktop but at a very low resolution, nowhere near 1080p, colours are awful, videos play choppy and have garbled compression, games lag, colours also look crap and have the same intermittent pixelated garbled look.
Am I expecting too much from this ? There is a 5g version would that be any better ?

Ok, looks like I answered my own question, these things are only good for browsing and showing desktop, Airplay is unusable.

Yeah, I've been reading up on it all today, they all have a significant amount of lag.
The best "mirroring" device seems to be the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter V2, it's straight forward and mirrors with the least lag of all the devices on the market.

If that's the case, there doesn't seem to be any currently on the market that are fast enough for mirroring games, but this would save me having to plug my hdmi and configure the tv every time I wanted to watch a movie on my pc.
As usual it seems the chinese have infested the market with cheap clones that don't come close to what the advertising says, gonna have to dig around for a few days.
Get a TV box and gamepad and you're done. Some very good boxes for approx $60. I gave up on my Chromecast and bought two tv boxes.

I own a Razer Phone 1 and thought upgrading to ROG was a no brainer, faster chipset and oled panel (though 90hz).
My ROG phone is so choppy and laggy compared to my RP1, to the stage I thought my phone was faulty. The games I tried testing were guns of boom, nba 2k, where reaction times and ability to control matters to some degree. I troubleshooted a bit and made sure X mode was on, cleared all the ram, 90hz setting was selected, and I turned on the gaming information and was averaing 50fps which is great for a phone! So why was it so choppy and laggy? I ran the same games on RP1 and reduced the screen to 90hz and ran the same games. The RP1 was perfect, all the choppy frames and lag were gone. So if both ROG and RP1 were running 90hz, and ROG should be having higher frame rates (845 vs 835), then is it because of ROG's oled panel?
Is there anyone else having this problem?
I'll try to upload a video to show the problem? It's a bit discouraging that the latest gaming phone performs worse in the real-world (not benchmark) than an older generation product.

I love the phone but i do think it's over hyped. Coming from HTC U11+ (835 vs 845 snapdragon) i don't think the differences are big in terms of processor power. My guess the software experience of the phone isn't polished yet to it's potential that's why i believe the next few updates will make the experience more smooth and how it should be.
One disclaimer i think the CN Rom is worse in performance in comparison with a WW Rom (But no real actual proof just a hypothesis) because you will get some games or apps stopping because of missing Google play services or some google apps.
It's a huge difference in person but still noticeable after recording it and uploading it to youtube.

I also upgraded from Razer Phone to RoG Phone, and I'm loving it. All the games I play are smooth, with colors so much brighter, and vibrant. So happy to have THE Headphone jack back.

Hey, im looking for new phone and Pocophone F1 looks interesting. But when i read few threads here and on YouTube i have some questions mostly about screen. Is really touch screen and screen quality not good for newest games and movies? Now i have Le Max 2 and screen quality is superb and i haven't problem at all with quality or touch delay, but software and some things are just awful thats why i want to change Phone but not at all cost
I won't buy it until they fix the lag issue.

I'm in the same position as well... looking to get a Poco F1. Currently using a Oneplus One on Lineage OS... so the development community is essential and Poco F1 seems to be a good successor. Tried to jump to the Razer Phone, but as good as the silky smooth 120Hz screen is, the development community is lacking (and it doesn't support exFAT and Apt-X, both of which the Poco F1 has).
Played with the Poco F1 at the Mi Store for like 30min (tried to install gcam with night sight, but for some reason it would freeze up). The main thing holding me back right now is Widevine L1 certification. Once Poco can actually deliver on that, then I think I'll take the plunge.

I also don't have any lag issues with my phone it's fluid and smooth and no problem at all with the hardware, the screen is good and I don't have these touch or bleeding issues .. Just buy a Chinese phone cause all these screen problems arises in these phones made in India due to bad quality control.

Well, you shouldn't bother about screen quality. Its one of the bests that IPS can offer. 720p YouTube videos have the same quality from 540p and XIAOMI alleged is solving this. You can test on YouTube. 480p and 720p videos on 6" screen have no difference.
Hi folks I'm in the market for another device and I'm stuck on the poco F1 or the mi 8 Lite both around my budget of £300 seeing as the 64GB 6GB poco is now £299 I'm obviously thinking it's a better bang for buck with the SD 845 over the mi 8 Lite SD 660 no contest in that department but of course the mi 8 Lite looks a better build smaller notch and generally nicer looking , can't decide weather to go with lower spec CPU with
more premium look of forget looks and have better specs ,,,

latest batch like mine has no problem with screen bleeding... and some say touch response prob and they say it starts after a while when we drag and u can even take s9 it also starts draging after some drag thats how screen works it has to understand touch and drag so it takes time

By the time your new phone shows signs of wear and scratches or gets covered with screen protector and case, looks are not going to be important. Performance or whatever your main use for the phone is is your main long term importance.
The Poco F1 is £279 on Amazon uk at the moment. I have one of these in an unopened box waiting to be given to me at Christmas.

Check the sticker containing all the phone parameters, the manufacturing date is written in bottom right corner - like "20018 07" in my case.

If you play heavy graphic game like genshij impact or crank up the graphic of some game to the max then the heating issue is real. After all only the gaming phone like rog 5 or magic 6 could handle the heating issue of the 888 on heavy game.

Yeah just because of bloatware and background process eating cpu constantly so disable or delete them completely with root then no heating issue at all

What exactly did you disable? I had the K40 Pro Plus and dumped it (was running Xiaomi.eu and planned to dev a kernel for it) but it would heat up just downloading apps, pretty much anything I did on it would make the entire top half of the device "cook." I put a temperature gun to it and it was ridiculous how high it got. The only thing that worked was putting a radiator cooler on it, and well, I really couldn't stand carrying around a radiator fan and a USB-C cable with me just so the phone wouldn't overheat. Back to my Op8T since just curious what you disabled to remove the heat.

EDIT: And to answer your question, some discussed disabling NFC by removing its components in order to stop the heating while using the .EU builds.
To be fair, I have been criticizing the recent choices of smartphone makers, and I feel like the latest one (plastic frames) made the issue with the SD888 even worse.
My K20 Pro (and many other flagships before 2021) heats up while under heavy use, but it dissipates the heat thanks to its aluminum frame (and it, although not as much and jokingly, can use one's hands as "water cooling" thanks to the blood flow).
I usually don't like people who mumble about conspiracies, but this trend feels like a slippery slope (it feels like the manufacturers are slowly "testing" which BS they can shove down the customers' throats without backlash).
First the headphone jack, then the notch (while there was a pop-up mechanism as an alternative, people complain how it's a moving part but aren't aware that a replacement is up to around 20$), then the "environmentally-friendly" lack of a charger in flagships and now the use of plastic.
But the price gets higher and the value stagnates or actually gets traded off.
I considered buying the Mi 11i but then I saw all the cases of overheating. Then I thought "well, the OnePlus 9 costs at least 200$ more here, it will probably have a metal frame and better thermals if they want you to pay so much". But lo and behold, it also has a plastic frame and to "cover" that, they capped the in-game fps to 60 so people wouldn't see the mess that the SD888 is.
I am honestly appalled by the fact that there are so many phones released by Xiaomi this year but not a single one is an optimal choice.
The Redmi Note 10 Pro has a good screen and a 108MP camera but its CPU is mediocre and it can't record beyond [email protected]
The Poco F3 has a great CPU that doesn't overheat but has the same 48MP camera as my Redmi K20 Pro while officially only supporting [email protected] (while the K20 Pro shoots [email protected] from the get go, and I know GCam lets you enforce [email protected] on the F3 but that's just an improvisation).
The Mi11i has a 108MP camera but its CPU overheats due to the incompetence of Xiaomi and Qualcomm when it comes to thermal design.
And the Mi 11 has a curved, IMO overkill 1440p screen (I dislike curved screens as someone who owned a Galaxy S9+, and I can say the same about 1440p smartphone screens), a 108MP camera but an unattractive design and an even higher price tag.
My point:
For the same reasons you mentioned (and more), I am going to steer clear of the SD888, and am buying the Poco F3 instead of the Mi 11i since the price here is 200$ lower, there is an active development for it and because my K20 Pro is damaged and dying.
Yet it's frustrating how there are so many new phones nowadays but none can provide what I want without having to pay as much as for a goddamn gaming laptop(which I didn't have to do 2 years ago when I bought an "all-screen" phone with a headphone jack, flagship processor with decent thermals, an aluminium frame and a decent camera for 400$ - the Redmi K20 Pro).
2 years later, you pretty much trade a 60Hz screen for 120Hz and a metal frame for a plastic one (and thus potentially worse thermals) while losing the headphone jack and getting a hole blown through the screen for a selfie camera one uses maybe twice a day on average (unless their self-esteem is so low that they need their ego stroked every hour in the form of liked selfies).
To each their own, but nowadays it feels like there is less of a "choice" while buying a phone, and rather a matter of "picking the less disappointing option".

spot on, don't know why xiaomi has been going in this direction but i honestly can't find an optimal choice to upgrade from my K20 pro
