problems with Fingerprint sensor - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

hi, i bought this sony xz1 2 weeks ago, now i decided to use the fingerprint but it seems to not work properly, someone have this problem or it's only my device?

Remember that US software version doesn't had fingerprint scanner enabled. You need to flash a different region software. This doesn't void warranty.

i'm european and it have normally, but it some times doesn't work as well :crying::crying:

Keep your fingerprint scanner clean.
If you use case, remove your fingerprint and add again your fingerprint without case. Fingerprint scan area is too small in this phone and cases make smaller this area.

Is the US model worth it?

I'm in the US and i've had an international version of the z5c. I sold it to try the nexus 5x. I love the smoothness of the 5x but the size is too big. Soo.. I'm wanting to go back to the z5c which is finally being released as a US variant. The problem is that it won't come with a fingerprint scanner and it's actually more money!! But probably has a warranty which is good. . Now I know I can still buy the international still but do you think that the radios inside will work better for US carriers? Or is the only difference the fingerprint scanner? Honestly I wasn't impressed with Sony's implementation of the scanner anyway.. I thought it didn't work very well but if it's the exact same reception, I'd just buy another international model.

If you want root, international must be better. I think not many developers will get the one without fingerprint. The radio is just same.

Agreed. Sometimes it is flawless and lets me in instantly while sometimes I tap the thing five times and have to type in my password. Also, since it is still running Lollipop no apps can use the fingerprint reader unless the get the API from Sony. I hope that changes with Marshmallow.

Personally I really like it.
It had to redo the calibration a few times though. However, this isn't exactly the fault of the scanner. The problem was simply that how I placed my finger on the scanner during my first calibrations was somewhat different than how I place it on the scanner on everyday use. I. e. more to the front or to the back or to the side, it varies with the finger used. So if you often use your fingertip for pressing the button but only scanned the center of your finger the scanner during calibration it isn't exactly surprising that it often does not work.
It works quite well since I redid the calibration paying close attention how exactly I place finger on the button during everyday use.
I've only had problems with the scanner when my finger is not 90-100% dry. It fails to detect fingerprints in that case.

Can fingerprint scanner work on all XZ1 ?

What exactly is the deal with the fingerprint scanner on the XZ1 ? To my understanding the ones being sold in the US have it disabled. Does this mean it can be re-enabled with customization? This website is (s-worldelectronics.ca) for Canadians but doesn't say anything about fingerprint scanner.

It can be made active by flashing an international firmware, yes.

The software update that just got released a day or 2 ago sorts the issue

I had the same issue, even after updating to the new firmware. what i did was i restored/reset (Repaired) via the Xperia companion app. Now at least for me the fingerprint reader works flawless every single time.
So if formatting your phone is an option for you, that should work. (Was a pain re-installing all apps and re-setting all logins and all, but this really ironed out lot of issues for me)
I am on June update and I can tell you that formatting the device does NOT help. I don't have the July update yet to say if that they fixed the issue.
I hate the fact that it doesn't recognize my FP. It feels like Xperia Z5 all again. Then again FP is so deep seated and it's really difficult to use it when there's a case on.

Will update the result of update if the new firmware hit my region.
So far my fingerprint work flawless as it should be after no reason lol.
Xperia 1 - July Firmware FPR Lag Solved/Fixed
As i mentioned before, after the july firmware my FPR works mostly every single time. I guess every phone is different or maybe you can try what i did, it may just work for you.
I did a factory reset using the "Software repair" function in the Xperia Companion with the latest firmware, now the UI is amazingly smoother and the FPR reader works flawlessly.
I have made a small video showing exactly how good the reader works now. If you have the time please watch it and also follow the steps mentioned above if you have the time to restore all the apps and setting, but trust me its better than just living with an awful finger print function.

I'm on August update and I get this frequently. There is a bug somewhere on this and when I hit the fingerprint issue, I just restart the phone and its perfect again (well after initial pin login due to reboot haha)
It's quite annoying but haven't had time to figure it out. Something with music app running while locked or?

Have you installed a screen protector?
The fingerprint scanner is awful. I am on the newest November update and most of the time it's not able to read my fingerprint. I don't have a screen protector either.

No screen protector.
This generation of in screen FP readers really are disappointing. Same for my Note 10+.

My when works works very well. The scanner recognized my fingerprints 9 out of 10 but now I can't even add new fingerprint. Every time I put my finger on scanner I had Information to cover the entire scanner with your finger and try again.

I know that. It makes both of them no less disappointing.
For now, factory reset help. Fingerprint scanner works again. We'll see how long this time it will work.
Hopefully Samsung fixes it in the next update. I had fingerprint scanner issues from day one, it took me a few tries to even get my finger print registered.
I've only had my s6 for a few days, but I had no problem registering my fingerprints... and it works perfectly (and quickly) each time I unlock the tablet

My fp reader was fine until the 2.0 update recieved 11/12. You're advised to delete existing and rescan. Now very difficult to rescan. Don't do update or delete if you don't have to.

apart from this one incident, the fingerprint reader works better than I expected. correctly recognizes 9 out of 10 attempts.

fingerprint sensor not working after changing display pannel

Hi,
(how it happened)
So recently i broke my poco f1 display.
Instead of going to authorized service center and get it replaced in like 7200 ₹, I went to a local repair shop and got a cheap one fixed for 3500₹.
(issue is)
Now post this the only issue i am facing is with fingerprint sensor. I am unable to use the fingerprint sensor. Phone is not even vibrating when I touch the sensor. Even the fingerprint option is missing in setting >security section. See attached screenshot for same.
+ the fingerprint sensor testing app crashen in my phone. A fe wtaht i have tried
I know from my online research that iPhone has this security measures that when ever the battery is unplugged in phone their biometric(fingerprint) will stop working.
Was curious to know if same thing is happening here?
If anyone else has faced this?
If anyone else is able to resolve this issue?
Will it help if i factory reset my phone?
Will it help if i load a custom rom in my phone?

Either the technician forgot to connect the fingerprint scanner flex cable/ damaged it. Remove the back cover and check it. The fingerprint scanner is not locked to the screen. The tuch id issue is only on iPhone . There is no such issue with poco f1 . Unlike iPhone you can even replace the fingerprint scanner its self. They are dirt cheap( not oem obviously)

May b u are rit, I will try to visit him and check if connections to fingerprint is fine.
Also i wanted to know if anyone has ever removed their poco battery and every got this fingerprint issue?
** update on this thread **
So today i went to the same repairshop. Told him the issue. Turns out that the main sensor hub of phone, who h reads all the sensors or phone was loose. So apparently there bolt that binds the circuit board to phone was loose.
He made the bolt tight again and volla, the fingerprint sensor is working perfectly again.
