Capacitive screen swap - MTCD Hardware Development

I've one of the original xtrons mtcd version with the resistive screen. I was wondering if anyone know if I can swap the screen to a capacitive ones that seems to be on the newer models and where i might be able to source one? are they actually capacitive screen?
Thanks.!

The newer models are definitely capacative. I'm not sure if it would be possible to swap them, but in my experience the hardware in these things is all fairly similar, and often interchangeable even between units. Have you taken yours apart and looked at how the screen attaches to the mainboard?

i was wondering if I could add a higher res screen

[Q] LCD upgrade/replacement

has anyone looked into the possibility or upgrading the LCD in these to a higher quality one? that would solve many of my issues with the device. I see they have been researching this on the gtablet forum but search didnt find any information on this site for the 101....
anyone know enough about this to recommend a plug n play replacement?
Never done it on a tablet, but on a laptop you typically want to aim for the same or lesser resolution unless the video supports higher (on this would have to be exact same resolution probably) and you want a backlight that has similar power characteristics. Then you need the frame to be the exact same physical size, frame and thickness included. Good luck, lemme know what yah find id like a nice IPS or S-IPS in mine.
Hi, a normal laptop 1024x600 resolution 10.1 panel will work, it used standard connections. I have tried that with a pixel qi. It works but no touch obviously. However the capacitive touch panel is stuck on the screen so you will need to purchase an extra touch panel to stick on top of the lcd screen you will buy. However i dont think there is any ips 10.1 inch screens. These are made customely for devices i believe.
At its most expensive it is a $350 device (101 - 16GB). Completely not worth it financially to upgrade the LCD. You would be better off spending that money to buy a Adam with the Pixel Qi screen if you were so inclined to have a higher quality capacitive screen. It would probably cost less too.

at 1.5lbs and $500 ill pass on the adam. you can purchase better lcds for ~$100 thats still cheaper than the adam also... but finding that the touch panel is glued to the lcd kinda ruins this idea. oh well CES next week will have plenty of alternatives to the 101 im sure

[Q] Replacing the screen?

I'm quite happy with my Folio now that it's running FolioMod, however, my biggest remaining concern is the screen. The viewing angle is pretty lousy, so I've started looking into possibilities of changing screen.
What do you hardware hackers say? Is there any good replacement screen out there that would fit and that also would work with existing drivers and so on?
interesting question!!
let see what hardware gurus says
But is it possible to buy a screen that it worth it (good and not to expensive) ? I had a quick look on the web, it seems that the only IPS screen that can be easily found is the iPad one.

[Q] best small tip stylus?

What is the best stylus for the capacitive screen we have? I am looking for something with a fine point, let me know your opinions, thanks in advance!
Not how capacitive screens work
That's not how capacitive screens work. No matter how fine a stylus is, the screen will recognize the same thing. This is because a capacitive screen does not measure based on pressure, it measures based on current (At least, that's what I've been told).
If you wanted a finer tip to do finer things with,I'd go for an active digitizer display or resistive screen based phone (Which are basically obsolete now due to active digitizers and capacitive displays.
Hope that helps a bit.

Yes it is true that capacitive detects current instead of touch, that does not mean that it is less accurate when discussing location of touch. The underlying grid determines this, but in todays screens, I would think it is as accurate as a resistive screen.

thank you but i am not looking to exchange this phone for a resistive phone, so given this new information, what is the most accurate stylus that isn't too thick
I was looking for the exact same thing, and ended up going with the "Newest Generation Slim Capacitive Stylus" by A Young Life (AYL). Got it off Amazon, but it might be available elsewhere as well. Works great, slides with minor resistance, and has a much narrower tip than other pens I've used.
While point width doesn't make much of a technical difference, it certainly affects usability. All capacitive stylus models I've seen use a round tip, and the point of contact at the bottom of that little semispherical nub is what registers as a touch on the screen. No matter the size, a sphere is going to converge to a single contact point (with a little give due to material and pressure). But, since you can't see through the pen, you have to estimate the center of the nub when touching it to the screen. The smaller the blind spot created by the nub, the smaller the margin of error.
I bought one off Ebay for .99 delivered from China. It's a small cute collapsable pen with a thin point. I haven't tried it yet because while the tip is thin to allow precise pointing, it is also made from a hard material and I'm scared it may scratch the screen. Is that possible?
If the tip is made for capacitive screens, it should not harm the Atrix gorilla glass.
Could anything sold for under a buck from China possibly harm....Anything?
Youbetcha. As Bush and Mao both said "Trust but verify". Even a gen-you-whine Palm stylus could scrtach Palm screens, so why trust the cheapest stuff from a no-name vendor in China to be any better?
Put on a screen protector first, much cheaper than replacing the screen.

I just received the one armathrillo is describing a couple posts back and I've got to say this thing is nice. The tip is actually a soft hollow bubble. You couldn't scratch a screen if you tried. It's nice and heavy but not too heavy. It feels like a nice solid pen. The little lanyard attachment is a nice touch. It detaches from the stylus and plugs into a 3.5mm headphone jack for storage. when you're done with the stylus just clip it on and the pen stays with the phone/tab/pad.
i know this is old, but I just recently heard about the jot stylus which seems to be fine point...

[Q] What would you change about the G3 or what do you want the G4 to be like?

My wishlist:
Much brighter LED that blinks more than once every 10 seconds
Capacitive touch buttons with optional onscreen buttons (like the OnePlusOne), as long as it doesn't increase the size of the bottom bezel.
More powerful IR blaster
Less logos on the front and back
Wireless charging out of the box
Fingerprint scanner on back power button that works as well as the iPhone fingerprint scanner (with option to use knock code too)
Shrink the bezels even more (if possible) while still keeping a 5.5" screen.
SlimPort doesn't work on older TV's. I would rather the phone support MHL. Both, if possible. Or, even better, a microHDMI port on the bottom.
Still have a replaceable battery but try and squeeze an even bigger mah battery into it, even if the phone is slightly thicker.
Agree with all of these.
Add:
An unlocked bootloader for all variants straight out of the box.
On the battery; at least a 3500 mAh
Physically, my only major gripe would be the bottom bezel with LG logo. Cut that thing off, make it as thin as the sides are. Since Verizon was so kind to place there logo on the front, well they found a perfect place where to put the LG logo and no longer giving Verizon any room... big red, always has to have there hands in something!
Other then that, maybe improve the IR Sensor a bit.
Have the latest Snapdragon 810 or anything new that comes out Q1 2015.
3GB RAM minimum.
32GB ROM Minimum.
Keep 1440p.
5.5-5.7", I love IPS, but AMOLED keeps getting popular, but I'm not sure if they should switch over yet.
Same physical bottom placement of course, I love them!
I don't really care MP on camera, these days there all quite well, it could stay at 13, I wouldn't care.
Then the usual OS updates. They are on the right path, tweak it down a bit, keep it more traditional and stock lollipop feel and improve on current LG specific features. I really wish i could turn the double tap screen on or off with stock OS. Stuff like that.

I wish they would keep it at 13 or even less and just work on better quality. The iPhone has an excellent camera at just 8mp.
But, it doesn't look like LG is going that route. I just read the G4 is going to bump the megapixels up to 20. To me, that just means a lot bigger jpeg's that probably aren't going to look any better than much smaller 8mp pictures.
Agree with everything you said. 3500 mAh. Assuming Q1 2015, 3 GHz Snapdragon 210 or 215, or Tegra K2. Anything 64-bit. 3GB (fast) ram , Adreno 400+, keep 1440p, anything higher really useless unless you're going for 10.1 in IMO.
Also, GUARANTEED UPDATES WITHIN 70DAYS FOR 2 YRS!
When I heard that the G3 had lasers, I had a totally different idea in my head. I hope the G4 is more lethal.
Thicker and use a larger (3600mAh?) battery. The thickness with my case on is just perfect.

Definitely disagree with this one. The lack of capacitive buttons was one of the major factors in my decision to get the G3. Want capacitive buttons? Get an M8.

Get an m8... Which doesn't have capacitive buttons?
Just don't jump on the giant phone bandwagon. The size of the G3 is just right.

My bad. I thought it has the same capacitive buttons on the huge black bar that the original HTC One had. So they got rid of the buttons and kept the bar. :silly:
Maybe have smaller bezel same size screen. Maybe a brighter screen(not an issue for me but many complained)

Ability to turn the lg g4 into a gpad with 16:9 aspect ratio. Ability to turn that into a laptop with keyboard dock that dual boots chrome OS and also have hdmi out for larger display.

Samsung Galaxy SIII Touchscreen compatibility

So, okay. I've searched everywhere but found no reference of Samsung S3's touchscreen compatibility.
There are at least 3?? variants of our beloved S3, but does the touchscreen of a I9300 fit that of SHV-E210L?
I have the E210L with a disabled touch after rooting. Now, I want to change its touchscreen but don't want to buy something I'll regret later. I've done everything from restoring, factory resetting, and re-flashing the FW but still the touch is disabled.
So, XDA-folks. Does the S3 have touchscreen compatibility or does it fit to all Samsung S3 variants?
Bump? Anybody?
Easiest way would be check those selling replacement screen assemblies, if one screen fits several models then you may have your answer.
However, as flashing the wrong kernel seems to always destroy the touchscreen I would doubt they are compatible.
I also don't think you can change just the digitiser, it's glued to the oled and unlike the glass screen is very fragile.

Hey man, thanks for the reply.
I'm thinking about replacing the whole screen, not just the digitizer as I don't have any experience at all with separating the touch and LCD with the heat gun..
Unfortunately, we don't have an eBay-like service here in the Philippines (which do returns) so trying/fitting screens is quite out of my options. Also worth noting is the E210L's antenna attached at the back cover, I'm afraid that if I do buy an I9300's screen it would somehow get in the way.. It's detachable though, but yeah..well..you know. :silly:
Guess I have to resort with phone techs scattered throughout the area. I just hope they don't make matters worse with my phone. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks again!
Regards,
Rae
