Disable KnockOn on Oreo - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Just updated to Oreo on my H830 today. When I was on Marshmallow/Nougat, disabling KnockOn was as easy as using the Quick Shortcut Maker app to disable it.
Now, it doesn't seem like there is an option to disable it using the app. Does anyone have a solution?

Update for OTA?

I am having the same exact issue. It seems when LG rewrote their settings interface from scratch, they actually remembered to remove the hidden settings this time (Only God knows why the settings are even hidden and now completely disabled to begin with). Unless they just changed the name of the "KnockOn" Setting.
Its a shame too, because one of the first things I would always do whenever I needed to factory reset.etc was to download QuickShortcutMaker and disable KnockOn right away. But now I can't do this. Hopefully someone finds a workaround. Why can't LG just let us disable these things?

Excuse me just a quick question. Why would you disable it?

My point exactly i don't think it's draining slot of battery.
I'm curious why they disable it.

1) Battery-saving concerns
2) Avoiding accidental wakes
3) Absolutely no point in keeping it on if the user doesn't want it

Because it can be triggered by accident. And depends on how you setup the phone, it could cause annoying problems if phone is turned on by accident.

I may be wrong but I think it's not that easy to trigger it. As the phone don't turn the screen on unless the proximity sensor is not triggered, the phone inside a pocket or in a situation like that won't turn the screen on.
but I'm not saying this applies to all situations

Most accidental trigger occur while holding the phone or dropping off the phone. I think the point OP trying to make is that owner should have the option to turn the feature off. If you need the knock-on feature, by all means keep it. I use the fingerprint reader to turn phone on. Knock-on is really just a way for me to make mistakes.

I have the same issue.
I had KnockOn disabled and updated to Oreo; now double tap to wake doesn't work (using default LG home) .
Normally this would be OK but recently power button started giving some trouble so double tap to wake would be a good feature to have.
Unfortunately can't find the menu to re-enable it in Oreo.
Hoping someone one finds a way and post it here

[Q] Different Screen lock vs Security lock timeouts?

I'm new to Android, please be gentle. I have searched numerous sources for an answer to this. From what I can determine this is a change in Android that only provides for one screen timeout. IE, every time the screen turns off and I reactivate, I have to enter the security code.
Previously was using an N900, where I could turn off the screen on a 1-2 minute timer, but not have the security lock kick in for 1 hour of idle time.
Is there any way to implement the same behaviour with the SGS2?
I second this question. I find this extremely annoying and would like to know an answer to this too!
A bit of relief I just found is to use widgetoid and the lock screen disable function. It temporarily turns off the the security lock. Haven't figured out the details yet but it seems to re-enable it after a timeout as well.
Not perfect but a definite improvement!

Widgetoid does not work if you have a security policy (device administrators) in effect. :'(
Anyone know any app that allows you to set the security timeout differently than the screen timeout?
i came from n900 too, also miss the separate screen/lock timings.

believe it or not JUICEDEFENDER ultimate has this feature.
it goes a small step further in that you can have another (longer) time set for lock screen when the phone detects certain WIFIs. eg your home network.
the free and cheaper versions may also have this function, im not sure.

Did this work for anybody..? with device aministrators /corporate email locks..
Would also like to know!
And a follow up question, SG2 should have some form of hardware encryption - how does this work?

The Juice defender doesnt work if there is a remote device administrator enabled.
Please help us out here.. guys..

[Q] Prevent phone lock - not bypass lock screen

Hi all, I've tried so many app's over the last couple of days that claim to stop the screen from locking but they have all just bypassed the lock screen... Well, they've tried to anyway. These kind of work arounds don't actually stop my phone from locking in the first place though.
My phone is a W008+ iPhone clone with Android 2.3.3. When it's charging, the screen will time out and switch off; But it doesn't lock. So I can hit any key to bring the screen back on and as it wasn't locked in the first place, I'm taken straight back to where I was.
When not charging, I get the same behaviour for ~2 or 3 seconds... Any longer and it locks forcing me to use the power key and swipe the lock screen along with any other security measures I may have in place.
What I'd like is to be able to set the 'lock' timeout in the way that I can set the 'screen' timeout. This is obviously possible but the question is: How far will I have to go to get this functionality?
Is there a setting I've missed? I'm very new to Android so there's lots I don't know yet.
Are there any app's that can really do this? Maybe this would need a root app?
Or would I need a custom rom?
Any ideas?
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock
try this
or you could flash cyanogenmod, in cm there is an option to disable the lockscreen in cyanogemnod settings -> tablet tweaks -> disable lockscreen
'No Lock' is one of the many I've tried. This type of approach isn't what I'm after.
Someone mentioned on the AndroidForums that some systems have a 'Set Lock Timeout' setting in the location & security settings. This sounds like the kind of thing I'm after but I don't have it on my 2.3.3 system. Maybe there's some kind of tweaking app that adds this?
I will most likely get round to using a custom rom but being so new to Android at the moment, I haven't quite got the confidence for it yet. I keep finding so many stories from people bricking their similar Chinese clone-phones.

Fingerprint Scanner Problem in 6.0 MM

Hi guys!
I really love this phone, but I have a really, really, really annoying bug. I have only 2 days with this phone (MM updated since the first day). When I try to unlock with my finger it works most of the time, but in some occasions it ask me for the knock code or the pin directly, giving me no chance to use my fingerprint to unlock the phone. This is really annoying because I want to use the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone and it does not let me. Does anyone have the same problem with the V10? Any ideas for a possible solution? Thanks a lot!

We have this problem too and assume you are using a third party launcher (Nova, Google, etc). Switch back to LG stock launcher and it fixes the problem. Think it has something to do with the lockscreen permission changes from Lollipop to Marshmallow.

I'm actually using Nova. I will switch back to LG Stock Launcher (uggly, by the way), and I'll tell you if it worked or not for me. I'm thinking on the same about te permissions in MM. There is no way to upgrade permissions from the settings or something like that to keep using a third party launcher?
Thanks a lot for the help!

I ran with LG's launcher for the past couple of weeks and since the recent beta updates to Nova shows no sign of a solution, I've reverted back to Nova and just switched to pattern unlock for the time being.
You know, even using nova, you can double tap the notification bar to turn off, and still use the fingerprint to unlock.

^ Incase anyone of you missed it, the finger print scanner works if you double tap the notification on Nova Launcher to lock the screen.

Try to factory reset, or change the unlock method to a different one, and then go back to fingerprint.
already did.factory reset by lg bridge..hmmmm
. i do hope its only a s/w issue. huhuhu
may due to mainboard problem
i also met this problem.
after restart, restore or refresh kdz, nothing changed...

Speak for yourself.
I'm on MM on my H960A AND I'm using Nova Launcher since the first day. Never had this issue. I only had a problem once after unlocking the bootloader. You have to enable "OEM unlock" in the developer settings prior to unlocking the bootloader and I did not disable that option again afterwards. The fingerprint sensor did not work at all with this setting enabled. You can register new fingerprints but unlock does not work.
Since I disabled this option I have no issues with Nova and fingerprint. Should you have unlocked your bootloader as well make sure you disable "OEM unlock" again.
I'm on MM and using Nova prime but I don't have any problems with the Fingerscanner!

Hi!
I have this phone for 4 days and i had the same problem like you,
I use to lock my screen with third party applications like:
Greenify or Screen Off and Lock
And for this i have the same problem like you,
If you had the third party application for locking your phone, you can uninstall them or lock your screen by double top or power button.
Good Lock!

I've had this problem also. It seems to have started after a security update from T-Mobile.
Try this fix and let me know how it works for you:
Follow these steps:
1)Goto settings -> fingerprint & security -> fingerprints -> then delete all fingerprints
2)Then goto apps -> switch to show system apps(im using 6.0) -> find com.lge.fingerprints then remove data and cache memory.
3)Goto storage & usb -> clear cached data
4) Then restart your V10
5) After that, add fingerprints in fingerprint lock then it detects your finger.
If it doesn’t detect your finger, repeat the steps.

Any way to disable screen dimming in Chrome and YouTube?

I've noticed that no matter what setting I have it on, my tablet (M5 8.4) automatically lowers the screen brightness in Chrome and YouTube, but more noticeably in Chrome.
Any way to disable this?
Have you checked the setting menus?
Using Firefox might be a solution.
Also, Youtube in FF has background playback as long as you are using a desktop user agent.

I've checked every possible setting, and read online everywhere, but to no avail. It also dims in Firefox. It dims as soon as you go into the app. After an online search, I found many Huawei owners with EMUI 8.0 having this issue. There is one solution, but it requires root and I don't want to root my device after having it for a few hours.
Funny. Would love a solution as well as this is rather annoying
Do you guys have auto brightness turned on or off?
I never really experienced this issue, but I did observe strange brightness behavior before I began to keep auto brightness permanently enabled.
Doing a quick search, I saw one person say to turn auto brightness on, I saw one person say to make sure animations aren't disabled in dev options, some say unclick 'increase readability in sunlight' in dev options. I personally wonder if the stock launcher (which I don't use) maybe is set to override the brightness level.

I somehow doubt that. I am using Nova Pro and am experiencing some weird behavior when attached to the Keyboard ... (the dimming function mentioned here is, what I believe, the erroneous function, as it works quite nice when not attached to the keyboard ...
All "your" suggestions do not work - I find this "function" somewhat annoying, even without the keyboard-thing ...

Well, I went through with it and rooted it. I tried the fix, and... it worked! After you're rooted, simply freeze the system process (I used Titanium Backup) called PowerGenius, reboot and no more forced-auto brightness dimming.

hmhm. I was quite sure it was a System process - since the "bug" (dunno whether you read the thread on keyboard and brightness ...) appears with the system-icon when in Desktop-Mode ...

Just disable "power genius" this has worked for me. without root. No More auto dimming.
Disabling Power Genius will also get rid of issues involving bluetooth music playback, and will prevent apps like Google Maps from getting killed off semi-aggressively in the background (i.e. so when you map out driving directions you won't have to reenter the address as you get close to your destination).
Quick note: you have to reboot after disabling Power Genius. Merely disabling it won't immediately change anything.
Up until now I thought a reboot would bring the "wonderful" feature back ...
How comes that you mention a reboot is needed?
How do you disable it? I can only do a force stop
I'm not sure how to disable it without root (I imagine adb might work). With root, most use Titanium Backup to freeze it. I'm using Service Disabler to disable the associated services instead. Service Disabler is awesome if you are rooted, underrated app and great for EMUI because, for example, you can disable individual parts of the Tablet Manager app without breaking the features you want.
You might not need to reboot. When I initially froze it using Xposed Edge Pro, but didn't reboot, it didn't change anything for me. Could have been due to Xposed Edge Pro.

I can confirm following the above article will allow you to remove the power genius package from the Mediapad M5 8.4 on EUMI 9.1 without root.
Thank you sooooo much... You can't believe how annoying this was. No need to even reboot either and it doesn't return if you do.
Now I just need a way to too keep the custom 740DPI after reboot and this tablet will be perfect

Question Solved - How to turn off flash light toggle on incoming calls

When the screen is off and I recieve an incoming call, the flash light rapidly and repeatedly switchs on and off. How do I turn this feature off? I can't find it in settings.
Update: it was a Tasker profile doing it.
That is not a standard feature on the Pixel series yet.
You must either have a custom rom, mod or app that is causing the issue.

I don't have a custom ROM or mod and can't find what app might be causing it. I think it's just some hidden setting related to accessibility.
Worse case would doing a factory reset fix it?

I went digging in accessibility settings and all the phone app settings and couldn't find this anywhere. A factory reset would fix it since it isn't a thing by default.
It turned out that it was a Tasker profile being triggered unintentionally. I have one to shake the phone to turn on the flash light if on the lock screen. I have no clue why incoming calls would affect it.
Glad you solve your issue and replied to this.
