Setting resolution to 720p with gpu overclock will make j7 really smooth. It fixed laggy animation while bringing recent apps on android oreo. One problem is that it makes everything blurry. U can get used to it and make it more sharp by setting some light font fe. google product sans 2 light.
What you need:
-ROOT
-Material terminal
Open material terminal and give it root permission
Type these commands:
su
wm density 267
wm size 720x1280
and then reboot your phone.
If you want to get 1080p back:
su
wm density 401
wm size 1080x1920
screen:
Or use ADB if your phone is not rooted.

I had problem with compatibile density in my phone (HTC DHD), I use IceColdSandwich - 7.4 - AOKP and I change the density from 240 to 190, then I get issue with download app form Google Play/ Android market, soo I've read many helps forum to fix it!
So now I want to help You:
What You need:
LCD Density Modder Pro works excelent!
(in download section)
in option of program:
- set the LCD Density to Your favourite
- click - 'Fix Market Compatibilty Issues'
OPTION 1
Read this, If You don't know what You do:
- go to 'Temp Fix' bookmark:
- 'Clear Market Data'
- Choose the DPI value to cheat the market/google store
- click 'Temp'
- reboot
- check in google play that can You already download the apk, which one You can't download before
OPTION 2
Do this if You know what You do and known the risk
- in 'Permanent Mod'
- look on option '2' and change the DPI value to lower than You have (example, I have 190 DPI, so I changed it to MDPI-160)
- use option '3' Download Modded Play Store
- use option '4', Download Modded GSF
- reboot & enjoy

Download the pack GPlay-DPI-Fix-3519.zip and flash it by 4EXT or CWM.
It's a googlePlay app, but it's moddified for all density.

This app is no longer a solution as they BirdAPI has not updated their modded PLAY app post version 3.15 in March 2012. Current Google PLAY version is 3.19 hence modded app doesn't work anymore.
The developer doesn't respond to emails anymore.

Fixed/Updated a old bootscreen I used to use on my HTC Touch Pro 2 PocketPC (yes. from like 7 years ago.)
It's still at the same res as the original version because I don't have the original assets.
Just corrected some typos that annoyed me in the original and updated some text
to reflect newer tech. (CDMACOM to LTE, etc)
Installation:
1. Use Rom Toolbox to install the bootanimation ( Run RT, Go to interface. scroll down to boot screens. find the zip on your device and hit install)
2. Mount System as RW. Rename file as Sanim.zip or bootanimation.zip (forget which one it is), Copy to /system/media/, permissions should be chmod 755.
Previews:
Logo doesn't look that great on the computer screen but looks pretty good enough on the phone itself.
(so long as you keep the res at default. 480x800)
You might want to tweak the FPS in desc.txt to your liking. I use between 9fps - 12fps so that by the time
its done. the phone's finished booting. (Preview gifv is at 30 fps or something)

Miui don't have by default option to change dpi.. If you are rooted, you can use kernel adiutor to change dpi in build prop editor. Install kernel adiutor from playstore, grant root access, go into build prop editor tab, then tap '+' and at key type ro.sf.lcd_density and at value type what dpi value you want to use (420 it's perfect for me), restart the phone and that's it.

i used adb (adb shell wm size, adb shell density) to change resolution from 720x1280 to lower res and the navigation buttons (recent apps, home, back) stopped working.
i went back to original resolution and density but these buttons are still not working. i am now using on-screen nav buttons. please help me
