how to unlock Honor 8X bootloader? - Honor 8X Questions & Answers

did anyone figure out how to get Honor 8X unlocked?
The Huawei official site has shut down the unlock application page, and the unofficial un-locking service didn't seem to work for Honor 8X.
emmm... any ideas?

No way for now. Just hope against hope someone figures out how to.

It's a new phone but considering it's still using the hi6250 software it should still work just fine.
And if it doesn't you can always get a refund (just buy via paypal)

Nope. Huawei unveiled the K710 with the Nova - the 8x is just the latest phone to utilize it. The correct info is on the Honor website and every phone site like Android authority, police, etc.
Both the Mate SE and 7x rely on the older SoC, however.

I have already emailed the folks at DC Unlocker and the 8x isn't supported. So the 8x has the Kirin 710, how hard is this to be able to find the unlock codes for? Should it be an easy task to crack, or might it be impossible? Is there an ETA on these types of devices? What are the chances one will be found at all.

Hi, I am between buying this honor 8x and the xiaomi mi a2. Any possibility to get unlocked in the near future? last emui is good or bloated?? at least root is very important to me.

I've never used a Kirin device. And with this being a new chip there's no guarantee the 8x's bootloader will ever be unlocked. Huawei performed a complete 180° and is no longer dev friendly.
Some say they're trying to hide the files for "GPU turbo", and so they don't want anyone to have access to system directories. Then others say it's due to users bricking their phones and trying to return them...
Either way, do not buy this phone with the intention of rooting or flashing anything. Only the Nova 3i, Mate 20 Lite and the 8x use the 710. Maybe someone will find an exploit in the Mate 20/Pro/X and use it for the 8x. Time will tell.

In the developer options there's a tab enable OEM unlock, so at least if we can get a code it's possible

Anyone tried funkyhuawei?

Would be nice if they open up the request page again like they did after the honor play release for limmeted xda members, can't see what the issues is as we except the fact that once unlocked all warranty is out the window so it's not like there getting warranty claims for bricking devices as they can just turn round and say your warranty is void so its not costing them anything, if they just provided the firmware files would be a start, we live in hope

Not for $55 rip off or $132 for a pass and there give for free lol they can jog on

funkyhuawei confirm from email, he have the code for honor 8x

IDK if this is what you want, but you can pay $55 for FunkyHuawei to get the unlock code, as already mentioned above, and they have a decent reputation. (at unlockhuawei.com which redirects to Funky's website, they only request the IMEI1 and model to send you an unlock code)
I have a P Smart+ (or Nova 3i) the first device with Kirin 710, and I'm glad to see that the chipset is rolling out to more well-known devices as I were suspicious of the stability. Anyway back to the topic, I would be glad if another method for Honor 8X is found as that will likely work for my device too.

Depends on your definition of "bloated". If you won't mind a few extra features you would *probably* never use EMUI is all right (and you get some useful features too, was pleasantly surprised to know that the alarm works even when the phone is off), but of course I don't think it will be smooth as a fresh AOSP stock ROM because of the background processes. By all means if root is a must have to you and you can't pay $55 for FunkyHuawei (or 30 Euro for MoS), go for a Mi A2. :good:

Apparent Root for Axon 7

In my stumblings through google I found this - https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&...Ngtuq-bHVKDh9IMHmsjqQg&bvm=bv.127178174,d.bGs
It promises root for the Axon 7 but I haven't had time to try it yet.
If you are brave enough to try & it's successful would be good to know....
Given that ZTE have suggested that they will provide the ability to unlock the boot-loader at some point after release and that the link you direct people to at sadroid.com (why the link obfuscation by the way?) looks fishy enough to make the dodgy customers at kingroot/kingoroot look like fine upstanding members of the community, I'd advise that people not touch this with a forty foot barge pole.

Confirm what? If you're asking about the bootloader, they said they are in talks with R&D about how to best do it, and that it's a more a question of "when" than "if". Of course, all details are unknown.

I think that it came up briefly during the last webinar, they mentioned the large amount of support on the forums for an unlockable boot-loader and said that while it wouldn't be unlockable at release that the ability to unlock it at some stage was more "when" than "if". If they keep to the monthly update schedule they indicated that they would like to maintain then a month or two after release seems most likely.

I still don't know why we can't get untethered twrp?
The Asus zenfone did this, it just booted into twrp and you could root your device... You couldn't install custom roms or keep twrp for any longer than when you rebooted but it did indeed allow us to root the Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) pretty neatly.
No bootloader unlock required...

You can download from the Zenfone forums - http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/development/alpha-tethered-twrp-asus-zenfone-2-t3123532
However I don't know if it will brick the Axon 7 as it was made for the zenfone 2 and that may be different to the Axon 7 with partition setups and so on...

This is truly weird if the Huawei rep that replied is providing accurate info!
At the very least, they should post the leaked B310 on their site. So, it does look like they don't want to go for full-scale deployment for the middle-Eastern MM firmware yet. A bit odd I would say.
I myself opted not to install MM on my device until the firmware is officially available on Huawei's site (or if I get the OTA release before that). I know the leaked file should be reasonably safe, but I was unable to ascertain, to an acceptable confidence level, that the file is fine. I know it seems to be performing well for those who installed it, but that was not the concern.
Anyway, it'll happen one day

In Indian Honor Beta testing form, the mobiles listed for registering for Nougat OTA contains Honor 5X and 5C.
So the probability for Nougat to Honor 5X is high I would say.
Also you can note that Honor 7 hasn't been listed in it. So it might leave H7.

Huawei Cheating with some components on the P10

This is all over the news in China apparently. Sounds like huawei substituted worse components into P10s which is really sad and makes me angry as I was just about to order one.

I got a P10+ 6+64G Greenery in China and it was eMMC. I used it for 1 day and returned it because it's not as smooth as my Honor V8 and it lags occasionally when opening apps and scrolling the screen.
All complaining posts in Huawei's official forum were removed. They only show the good reviews there. It's 21st century but a Chinese giant is still doing such things

I returned it successfully because I didn't mention anything about the different internal flash problem Some returns were rejected if they mentioned this problem in the reasons of return.
It's good that the problem exposes to the public as the consumer should know it before they decide whether they should buy it.
Lucky you, I have on of the P10 with DDR3 and how knows if it has also eMMC5.1 instead of UFS2.1, and the problem is that I bought it more than a month ago here in Spain. I guess I will have to argue with the shop in order to have it replaced by a new P10 that MAYBE it has the same problem.
Man, I switched from Xiaomi in order to avoid several things (besides ROMs) like the quality of the manufacturing process (sudden death and things I've suffered in the last couple of years with several Xiaomi models) and now Huawei is even worse. I am very disappointed with Huawei, this is my first and maybe last Huawei phone.
At the end all manufacturers have their problems, Samsung with the Note model is an example. Maybe paying more than 800€ for an iPhone is worthless at the end...

Good luck! This is the first time that I know that eMMC is found in Europe. Maybe the source of your P10 is also from China? As you said, you bought it more than a month but it was only released just 1 month ago in China.
I understand that manufacturers always get the same component with different brands. The main point is that they have the same specification. But Huawei uses components with different specifications in the same model. That's really unacceptable. I am also very disappointed with Huawei as I used 2 Huawei phones (Honor 3C and Honor V8), which were good phones.
Well, according to some benchmarks I did, the memory controller seems to be UFS2.1 finally so there is no problem with mine!!
So I am relieve! But I would like to be able to check out the hardware components of my phone to be sure, who knows...

Looks like ufs 2.0
Not ufs 2.1 but its better than emmc 5
I have the same results and am more than happy with my p10
Should do a poll about how many user have eMMC, what region + model. I've been Huawei fans for long time but now I kind of feeling been cheated (placed order of the p10+ and not knowing what will I get). Now I am leaning towards cancelling the order before it shipped out.
So question is does international varient i.e L09 and L29 been effected by this scandal?
There are 3 things chinese fans was flaming about are:
1) no Olephobic coating
2) UFS, eMMC
3) LPDDR3, LPDDR4

Just got the update this afternoon, it's a 100mb update, just a security one, nothing else, but still, awesome for a £170 phone.

Got it from a eBay seller, that was selling the EU model with band 20, I saw for that price as well on eGlobal, but it does not have the band 20, which is a deal breaker for me. Still great price for what you get ?
I don't have the september update yet, maybe they're releasing in specific regions first?

I'm in the UK too and have LTE band 20 also, all the A3's have band 20.
(I purchased in Mumbai, India on a work trip, so definitely the "Global" model, even says so on the box).
GSM Arena lists no difference in the bands either. I think the confusion is coming from the fact there's a third version of this phone for the Chinese market running Miui, and that is locked down but has a totally different model name.

Did you unlock your bootloader, change any developer settings or root your phone? The update was released worldwide, it's available for all regions except China:

No, didn't make any change to the system, but my ROM is european, I guess is only available to global ROM for now.
I have the European version and the update is still not here. Does anyone know why (there are different regional versions of android one)?
In Romania September update received
I got update 5 days ago. In Albania
Updated
got an update... Singapore
I bought this phone yesterday, saw a September update of about 1.2gb! After the update still on Android 9. But my battery seems to drain quite fast, hoping it's just bcos the phone is new.
I am coming from a MiMax2 & I am already missing the big screen, the battery better be as good. I also miss MIUI cos this Android one is just dull!

No CC9e in my country. My first time using a pure Android device, but i am rooting anyway, just waiting for the right rom then gone. Have no problem with the hardware, apart from low screen brightness and poor volume incall and headset. Which i blive will be settled with a custom rom.

Yeah, i joined the Mi A3 group on telegram and i see that alot of work is going on. My computer is broken so i currently cant test roms, currently waiting for a fully functional twrp or orange fox recovery so i can start flashing roms.

Question Will 10T be a good device for custom roms?

Hey guys, the new OP 10T has nice specs for it's price and it makes me think about changing my OP9.
Since this phone it's more an Oppo phone it doesn't seems to be a good phone for development and ColorOS it's not a good software, without some third party roms I don't think I could live with this device.
What do you think about 10T for modding / custom rom development for this phone? Would it be worth to make the upgrade for this phone?
Its likely rom support will be poor if its anything like the Oneplus 10 pro, which is only starting to get inklings of LOS support 8+ months after release.
Yep, not much happening at all with the 10 Pro so probably the same for the 10T...
Not unless someone figures out how to crack the new MSM Tool. The MSM Tool for the 10 Pro requires a technician to log in so it isn't possible to restore the device after a brick currently. That's obviously a big impediment to custom ROM development as OnePlus devices are easier to brick than many others.
Oppo played a dirty trick with customers by introducing MSM Download Tool with Authentication for technician with Username & Password, now its no longer free, MSM DL Tool is both used to Flash Firmware on EDL on OnePlus & Realme Devices, now these devices are easier to brick without MSM.
So expect no development for the device only assured updates from OnePlus.
I'm coming from a OnePlus 3T that had a plenty roms and modifications. I was thinking to buy this phone hoping for the same support. Is there no hope at all? I saw that the kernel sources were released for the 10 pro, is the only problem the msm tool?

Having a working MSM tool is not a requirement, but having a reliable way to recover from bricks will give devs more confidence to mess around.
Oneplus haven't released the kernel source for the 10T yet. Don't expect anything before that comes out.
I'll personally attempt to get a complete TWRP port working once mine arrives. If that goes well, I might also tackle a LineageOS port. No promises or guarantees, just letting you know that not all hope is lost. Don't expect a thriving scene like the older oneplus devices though.

Well, knowing that there is already someone who will work on a twrp port is good news. Having a fully functional twrp will surely make more devs interested in working on it. I don't expect the same support of the 3t, but my other options were buying a Realme phone or a Xiaomi phone and i think that these phones have even less devs support.
I don't know much about new phones, but aren't there GSIs now? How do they perform? Will it be possible to install them on the 10t?
Thanks in advance and good luck with the twrp port!

Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices are heaven for development. Oneplus development will be dead in future as more customers shift to Nothing Phone and Xiaomi for development. Nothing Phone 1 is the new OnePlus. so for development look for other phones

I wish any of those were in the US market... My choices for development are basically OnePlus or Pixel and the modem in the Pixel is an automatic nope for me.

Asus Zenfone 9 might be a good option for you, check out the specs 8+Gen 1 and ASUS has good development in past for Zenfone devices, check MKBHD review for the device. You wont be disappointed, perfect replacement for Pixel. However, no device can match the development of Xiaomi devices.

The problem with the Zenfone is that there are so many complaints about ASUS phones up and dying and support doing nothing for it. Also, AT&T may or may not whitelist it and the screen is too small for me so it would need to be a ROG Phone 6 version A. But maybe.

You can download them but unless something very recently changed, they will not flash without a login from a tech.
Edit: in fact, on that very page...
