US997 Software update (10/4/18) 21c - LG G6 Guides, News, & Discussion

I snoozed the notification then realized I should probably let someone know.
Currently can't install it because I have TWRP installed.
https://forums.androidcentral.com/l...are-update-us99721c-unlocked-us997-lg-g6.html
This guy got it as well.

Thanks for posting. I hope some kind soul does what was done for the 21b stock ROM, and makes a twrp installable zip for those of use who don't know how to convert a kdz.

I'm willing to throw 30 dollars towards someone that does it. I'm sure a few more folks will add to it.

Put me down for 5.

Anyone know where this is stored on the phone so I can delete it and free up .8GB?

bump... if i am able to somehow get the KDZ could someone make it a zip for me?

Can't you update with lgup without wiping end then flash twrp again?

I don't think so for this update. I haven't seen the kdz anywhere. Personally, I went to unrooted stock using an older kdz and LGUP (with Uppercut) and then immediately got the OTA.

i guess nobody is interested in it?

The 21c kdz firmware has been posted online:

alright so we have the zip now, thanks to @zefie
i flashed the zip in TWRP, rebooted to system.
rebooted to bootloader and reflashed TWRP
rebooted to recovery
installed zefie's oreo anti root removal tool, then magisk.
rebooted to system.
runs great so far.
he wants me to give it a few days before he releases it into the wild.

Waiting for Android 6.0 Root

This is the new thread for waiting for root for Android 6.0.
Currently we have 5.1.1 rooted and people are just waiting for them to release root again for us.
If anyone is creating early bounty's for this than you can let me know and I will add them to the top of the thread.
I'll put up $20 for MM root.
I'll put up $5, it's all I can really spare.
i really wasnt looking for root on 5.1, i think verizon had to hurry up and put Marshmallow out because of root
I'll pledge $20. Gave up root for mm and regretted it rather quickly.
Root will only get easier now that it's been accomplished.

If @tungkick or someone cracks the bootloader for 11b, or does something like done on the G3 with the bump method, we should then bee able to get twrp flashed and custom roms flashed so we won't have to worry about cracking vzw's 22a at all. We could then flash any rom we'd want, including marshmallow roms. Am I right in this thought process? And those that are on 22a would just have to downgrade to 11b using lgup refurbish mode.

It didn't work for me. Gave me an error message saying something like TOT Anti-rollback enabled. Even though it didn't roll back, it showed my software status as modified in the phone settings. Had to reflash the mm kdz today to get the software status back to official.

Well damn, that blows! I was about to try out mm, but not at the cost of root and the possibility to bump twrp.
I'll pledge $20 for root

I pledge $25 for bootloader bump with that we can flash a modified version of marshmallow. But will take root on MM also so $20 on that also. Count me in.

Root idea ATT G5

Has anyone tried using send_command to flash the LAF partition to BOOT (for backup sakes.. Need to be able to revert), after backing up to sdcard obviously, then flashing TMOBILE LAF to LAF partition. Rebooting the device again to download, now fastboot and oem unlocking? I was able to get this working on my old G3, I just got stuck in fastboot due to lg not having an official unlock tool (now available). From there TWRP could be flashed, and then root! After flashing the stock boot of course!!
Seriously!? Nobody responded!???? Maybe post this in the G5 Q&A????

Still no root for the LG G5 H820 (AT&T) Marshmallow 6.0.1?

No, and honestly I don't think there will be. AT&T has locked this device down, and I mean locked it down HARD. If AT&T will release a tot or kdz then maybe we could get root, as someone could just make a pre-rooted system of the tot or kdz (right, guys?) but until (or if) they release it, I don't think there will be root. I would be willing to test for some things if I knew I could just flash back to stock if things go wrong but right now I can't, so I'm not willing to test for anything as I don't have the money to just go purchase another device if this one bricks.

You are kind of on the right path, but there is no way to just "flash" the t-mobile LAF partition. There are too many security variables that you need to find a work-around for, along with trying to find a way to get it onto your device.
Another thing is that THE SEND_COMMAND DOES NOT WORK ON THE G5. This has been talked about on many other threads, and it doesn't work.
Why is the AT&T getting so little love compared to all other models !? We need root too

Well the biggest issue is on top of AT&T locking the device down, they aren't releasing a kdz or tot file.
I've been out of the game for awhile, but aren't they obligated to due to open source?

Yea that's what I was thinking. How can they be the only carrier that doesn't have to release the FW? They do the same thing on the AT&T S7 and S7E. Can they be sued for that?

Upgrading

Tired of seeing the new update notification. Looking at upgrading my phone. Unfortunately, I don't install ROMs all the time, so I tend to forget the steps / applications needed to upgrade. I'm rooted, and bootloader is unlocked.

So there are now two newer versions out there, the latest only has an OTA no kdz, and if you flash it as is you will loose root
I suggest wait until there is a method to keep root and flash the latest, which I'm sure will be soon

L is the latest, if you want to flash j right now feel free
There are two Roms by eliminater74 and one by andy_zahng
For any of these choice you do not need LGup, so long as you are previously rooted
Just flash firmware (part one) via TWRP
Then flash any of those three Roms via TWRP
Reboot,
You will have j rooted
But being i tend to recommend a full wipe i would say wait until the latest L is out in a flashable .zip, should be soon

Do you mean the full image KDZ? Within a few days of OTA, usually sites like LG-Firmwares.com has access to KDZ. Or members here share copies they have downloaded via LG Bridge. Right now I am uploading the full 3GB to my Android File Hosts account to share with everyone from there.
@seadersn, the dev who does the H930 TWRP flashable zips says he will have that completed and uploaded by Saturday night.
