Depends on what you consider a right rom!
Installing play-store is easy. But for installing custom roms you shall have to unlock bootloader, for which there is a wait period.
The benefit of buying from China is that you could get it from an authorized seller. But if you unlock bootloader anyways, you lose warranty, so no extra benefit.

I live in China and I've bought mine here. Firstly was thinking about unlocking bootloader and changing rom ASAP but then I've realized there's no need. The Chinese MIUI is stable and I've installed Google services without any problem. So go for it

I bought a chines MIpad 4 LTE and I use it in the UK, installing Google Play is rather easy, although Google Calendar has some problem syncing right now. The main problem is getting the LTE to work, it seems like the device is somehow locked and does not get on mobile data, not for me -at least- after several attempts and having read pretty everything that is out there about the subject.

Regions for installing apps.

Hello all.
Thinking about buying an HTC Hero, but after reading a bit in various Norwegian sites, I'm beginning to think that I cannot buy all applications that I want. This because there is some regional locking or something??
I really want to buy CoPilot navigation software for my navigation needs, but really start to wonder if I actually will be able to...
Anyone who knows about this?
Best regards
Tommy
Yeah I have the same question in Hungary! What is the reason of using this region locking or what...
I think it's just to do with the paid apps thing.
When the US got paid apps... we didn't have them in the UK, anything that wasn't free wasn't displayed up until recently I think
When paid apps and/or google checkout comes to hungary you should be able to buy.
If not wait a few weeks for someone to root the Hero and install a US/UK or developer ROM and you should be able to access all items.

[Q] what to do now?

Recently purchased a Sony X S, second hand, but unfortunatley it is sim locked to orange uk, with the help of several threads on here so far i have managed to flash ICS via flashtool, have full root, and have CWM recovery installed which i have used to flash from zip, beats audio mod and status bar mod successfully
But now im itching to be trying some modified roms and kernels but with my handset being simlocked the bootloader says cannot be unlocked in the service menu
from what i have read, the only option to unlock is via a purchased code, thats fine im happy to pay but will this enable me to unlock the bootloader afterwards?
i phoned orange uk, they said will provide me with a code for £20.42, but i have to have an active orange account for 3months before they will sell me a code! so is there any other reliable services to aquire an unlock code?
any advice appreciated, thanks

Why do you want to unlock the bootloader?
I've heard that the paid unlock codes works

Hello,
I used one such service about 6 months ago, but on an older LG GT540, I first went down the root of using a local shop, but due to the custom ROM and Kernel on the phone the guy simply could not do it. I used cellunlocker.net, it is one of the top results in google and it works, a bit on the expensive side but they do offer a money back garuantee, but you have to film the unlock process and post it to youtube to be able to get a refund. But, if your IMEI is submitted accurately, then you should have no problem, it does however take about 48 hours to get a code from them and I can say, apart from the price the service is good.
Check out the website and make sure you read ALL the information on the Xperia S page they have before you submit your IMEI and payment, in case they have listed any limitations.
I hope that helps.

Bootloader - Xiaomi Account

I bought my Mi Pad 4 recently from an aliexpress seller, came with some version of the MIUI EU global ROM with bootloader already unlocked.
My question is: how can I attach this device to my own Xiaomi account in case I (read:accidentally) lock my bootloader and needs unlocking once again?
I know this is an old thread but I'm curious to know if you've made a progress. I also got my Mi Pad 4 recently and came across with horror stories about accidental locking on MiFlash. My current understanding is that you need a SIM (with a phone number) on your device to link it with your Mi account. But this is not possible for non LTE devices.... Actually mine is the LTE version and I've just got a new SIM, so it should be fine for now. But I am still curious to know what you're meant to do to start the countdown timer if your device doesn't take a SIM. Can you link another device with a SIM (perhaps your normal mobile phone?)? Or does xiaomi not give a t*** about tablets (of their own)?

any news on this ? is the UNLOCKED brand new tablet still tied to the seller account and so it cannot be tied to the final user account ?

If I am not wrong, if device is unlocked , it is connected to an account used to unlocking. If you will want repeat this process, the software will refuse connecting device to new account.
Maybe sim card is a workaround ?
Never buy new device unlocked. The used one no problem, previous owner will help you.

Have a Google on it. It seems there may be workarounds or possible reset by emailing xiaomi.

To root you need an unlocked bootloader. The Verizon and AT&T branded phones have locked bootloaders, so avoid those. The Google Edition version originally had an unlockable bootloader, but I have seen reports of refurbished Google Edition phones that have had the bootloader locked. Try to get a guarantee from the seller that the bootloader is or can be unlocked. When sellers advertise an unlocked phone, they mean the SIM is unlocked, not the bootloader.
Do an IMEI lookup on the phone you are considering. If it says Google Fi, it is a Google Edition phone. If it says Verizon or AT&T, you cannot root it.

Thank you so much, big help
I might be interested in "selling" mine to you when my P6 arrives depending on the shipping costs. It is unlocked and rooted. I would restore to factory prior to sending. The battery still lasts all day with my normal use. Everything works with no cracks. Sorry, I take that back. The USB port is very finicky and I now only charge wirelessly. My last update was a pain trying to get a good connection to my computer. I would hate for you to not be able to get it connected.

Question Experience of Pixel 6 in Hong Kong

Hello Pixel 6 users in HK
May you be so kind as to share your experience of using this device here ?
I'm going to get one as a cheap replacement to my S21U, which is close to failing and I want to sell while it retains value...
Does it work well on the local networks (I use 3HK) ? I understand I won't be able to use 5G but I don't care.
Also, I suppose it is still not possible to use NFC with Octopus for transport and such on non Samsung phones, right ? Might be the one thing I miss.
I am not in HK, but 5G should be working for you now. NFC with Octopus shouldnt work.

Thank you for your quick reply!
What you say is reassuring me, since I don't plan to unlock BL, root or anything to avoid the stress of it !
My days of doing this are gone haha
HK user here. I rooted my JP spec one to an international version, got google pay and nfc to work but I don't use octopus with phone so I can't confirm on that. I use 1010 so I can't comment on how well 3HK coverage would be but mine works well enough in 4G and 5G is working for some people already via rooted mods.

Thanks for your input.
5G is not a must, 4G is enough really.
Any point to go to an international version from the JP version we find mostly here ?
