Samsung Health not counting steps - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Is anyone having issues with the Samsung Health app not counting steps? The Huawei Health app counts the steps just fine and I've tried turning off the power management settings for Samsung Health, but it still looks like steps are only counted when the app is open.

Yep exactly the same here, pity as I really like the Samsung Health app. It seems its a pre-existing problem with Huawei phones as a bit of Googling has revealed others with the same issue on the P20 pro and other Huawei handsets. Its apparently due to the way Huawei handle power saving - was hoping it would have been resolved for this phone but obviously not!

Yes this is annoying as I like the widget, the Huawei health app counts steps fine but the widget is huge.

[Q] Gear Fit & Note 3 no sleep tracking.

Hi, got the Gear Fit and used it with the S5 for a few days. Now I went back to my Note 3 and must recognize that the S5 Health App does not work the way it works on the S5
I finally managed to get the Pedometer info from my Fit to the Note 3 after downloading the new apk from this site. But there is still no Sleep button in the S Health App. Any idea, why not? Does the sleep information not sync with the app? Or is there a different work around for that.
Thanks

The S Health app does not have sleep tracking. To track your sleep (as well as heart rate and pedometer info) you need to uninstall the S Health app and install Fitness with Gear

not for note 3 only for s5 till now...

S Health has now replaced Fitness With Gear

I have a Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and have spent hours and hours trying to get FWG or S Health to work. I finally came across a FWG version that says it is now superseded by S Health and provides a link to update.
After updating I went through the first few screens but got the dreaded "S Health has stopped" after the restore portion of the initial app setup. Thought I was back to square one but I took a chance and went to /data/app and found com.sec.android.app.shelath-5.apk.
Clicked on it and it went straight to the Health app. All is now magically working. The -5 must come from the install procedure, I have seen -2, -3 etc and they seem to get updated whenever a re install happens . Basically whatever shealth apk that is in /data/app is a good candidate. If you get the force close try to re-install, do not clear data or it will go through the data restoration process again. Once you are over that step you should be good.
I tried changing profile and again got "S Health has stopped". Tried the install apk trick again and back to working S Health. Doesn't make sense, been a software engineer for 13 years and I can't understand how this is working.
Some points:
I have tried so many combinations it is not funny. These are working for me:
Gear Fit Manager 1.88.090122, S Health 3.5.1.0693.
I have no health service whatsoever. I have Xposed framework installed.
I have root access but otherwise stock rom.
S Health still has issues, steps trail the watch by 200 or so even though the sync has just happened. At least FWG was accurate when I could get it working but it never showed and historical data. S Health does. The main screen shows 67% motionless sleep but if you go to the graph page it says 52% motionless.
I just went for a very short walk but no heart rate data showed up. The exercise did.
The FWG version that upgrades to S Health is here
http://m.mox8xom.store.aptoide.com/...healthlite/15000693/7683445/Fitness with Gear
You will need to get Aptoide to install this.
This will not work on non samsung devices and may well not work for you at all. Remember that the special sauce is obtained by installing FWG from the link, proceed with upgrade to S Health, go through app setup which will likely crash at the end of the restore data part. At that point install s health found in the /data/app folder. Recommend Titanium backup once you have a working version.
Good Luck, I had nearly given up after so much effort but glad I persevered. I still hate samsung

Nike + now sync with shealth?

Got update today on Nike app, says syncs with shealth. Don't see how or where to sync
You need the update of s health as well. .. Just got it installed on my note 4. Now I see nike+ integrated in s health...
Thanks. Dumb q. How do you get the shealth update? My galaxy store doesn't show my apps some lollipop
I Dont see anything about sheal in the Nike + running app or s health and they're both updated
I updated everything and I see nothing.
Can you please tell us what to do?
S Health is not a simply app update. Samsung managed to create segmentations on S Health, e.g. each different phone models see different versions of S Health only. My Galaxy Alpha only sees S Health 3.5 that was last updated on Jan 2015.
I downloaded the new apk and updated by myself. Yes, now Nike is in S Health.

I don't know where to download it. My phone shows S Health app in Galaxy app store when it was on 4.4.4. But now with 5.0.2, it no longer shows. S Health is not a simple app to update. It depends on all kind of Samsung services to work. Samsung managed to get million different version of S Health targeting million different models of Samsung phone. I typically just wait and once in a while Samsung will push the S Health update to my phone.
Or you can search for S Health APK but keep in mind it may not work for you specific phone.
Odd thing. Updated to lollipop on my Note 4. S-Health is version 4.1.1.0037. It also now shows up in the Google Play Store as well as the Galaxy Apps store.
Casual jogging.
I've been using Gear S and Nike+ for running on a weekly basis. Here are some battery saving tips I have developed. My watch has no SIM card, so no battery drain that way. I use it simply as a GPS distance-measuring + MP3 player over BT mix.
1) Go to Settings just before a run and turn on "GPS". Usually it gets a signal pretty quickly. Then go to "motions" and disable all. Also, go to S Heath and disable the Pedometer.
2) If you jog with musicConnect your BT headphones. Turn on the Music from the Music player, as Nike does not know how to shuffle (whatever, Nike).
3) Go into Nike+ app, decline Music and Cheer requests. Wait a couple minutes, start your run and watch for the green GPS dot to appear.
When all goes as planned, I get more than two hours battery life (estimated). Went down from 90% to 40% battery life during an 1:25 hour 10 mile run. In theory, if you run fast enough Half-Marathon should be no problem, and if you do not use BT for Music at all, then it can probably go more than 3 hours on a single charge with Motion and Pedometer off. Good enough for casual jogging.
This watch is awesome for casual running. Share your tips, if you have any! Thanks!

There is a Running feature in S Health.
For those that updated, can you still use Nike+ or do you now need to use sHealth, because Nike is integrated into it?
I run every day, and switched from sHealth to Nike+ 2 months ago because the GPS signal would take forever to lock in sHealth. How are things after the update? Is sHealth faster? Nike+ slower?
I keep using the NIKE+ for running, but after the update GPS took about 5-7 minutes to lock...will retry again today or tomorrow.

Thank you thank you!! I have not even looked into possibly updating until I hear user feedback, as I was afraid it may slow down the GPS. Can't wait to hear back from you or others after you next run.
Is anything else new or different?
One more question: does Nike now track your HR? On my Gear S, it never did. Just wondering if that has changed since the update.
Thanks!
HR works for me sometimes, depending on how sweaty my hand is + hair . But it is imprecise, as far as I gather.
GPS lock now takes forever. .. ran yesterday and it pretty much skipped the first 750 meters + fooled around with the watch 5 mins beforehand. It still counts the distance though. I never carry the phone with me though.
Sent from my SM-N915FY using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks strikey17. Is there any benefit to the upgrade that you can see, then? Sounds to me like I should make sure it does not install, if it only slows down the GPS.

How Can I use S health in my Gear S2 to running then sync data with nike+ App?
Nothing to do with the watch app. Nike+ phone app now supports sync data into S Health phone app. Not the other ways around. Your watch S Health app already sync data with S Health app on the phone. So here is how it goes:
Nike+ watch app -> Nike+ phone app->S Health phone app
S Health watch app -> S Health phone app

Medication reminder app not working, help please

I gave my parent a Honor 7, and I installed a medication reminder app in the phone to help to remind my parent when to take his medication.
I first installed an app called "Medisafe Meds & Pill Reminder" from Google Play. After setup everything and test it on the spot by creating a dummy medication and set the time about 5 minutes later. I then locked the phone and watch. The app reminder does appears and everything seems normal so I let my parent start to use it on daily basic.
However just after a few days, the app fails to give any kind of reminder again. I tried uninstall and re-install. During on-the-spot testing it works fine but in real usage it just does not give any reminder at all.
So I have given up and tried another app called "My PillBox(Meds&Pill Reminder)" from Google Play. I did the same setup and testing like the previous one. Unfortunately the same issue occurs for this app as well, in real usage it fails to give any sort of reminder.
Out of my curiosity I try to install the "My PillBox(Meds&Pill Reminder)" in my own Sony Xperia Z3 and it working perfectly fine in my phone. I do a few trials and errors with the Honor 7 to determine what actually went wrong. I find out that, if I was to clear the app from the background, then the app will never give any reminder. If I was to keep it in the background, it will work fine.
That is quite annoying because in my Xperia Z3 this tedious procedure is not needed. The app works in my Xperia Z3 regardless of whether I let the app running in the background or not.
I then install "Autostart and StaY!" in the Honor 7, so that upon boot up the medication reminder app will automatically launch. However since my parent has the habit of clearing the background app, so as soon as he did this action the medication reminder app fails to give reminder again.
I need help on how to make this medication app work normally in my parent's Honor 7. Work normally as in the case of my Xperia Z3, where it works regardless of it is in the background or not.
Can someone offer any idea on what can I do to solve this issue? I am not sure whether this is an app bug or the Honor 7 OS bug.
And can other Honor 7 user try this medication app on your own phone and see whether it works normally in your Honor 7?
Remark: My Honor 7 is not rooted. I do not intend to neither because my parent is not a gadget geek.
Maybe you should add the application to the list of protected apps? You can find this feature in settings.

Hi there.
Yes I already make sure I did that. But it does not help. My battery management is set to Performance also, so everything should be running at full mode.
My cousin encountered the same problem with What'sApp. The problem was that he had the habit of killing all background apps manually every once in a while. Even if the app is protected, killing it manually leads to nog receive any notification. After some tests, I noticed that Whatsapp was the only app with this behaviour. Killing Facebook for example didn't change anything and notifications appeard anyway.
I don't think that this is your problem bu I discovered that this is due to bad coding from the developpers. Just try another medication app should do the trick.

Thanks for sharing the info.
I am currently facing another greater problem, my honor 7 suddenly can't be charged while it is turned on. I am going to open another thread regarding that to ask for help.
As for this medication reminder app thing, after I sort out that charging problem I think I will give it another try on other medication reminder app. Hopefully I will bump into one that works with Honor 7.

There are some applications, that demands your phone to be rooted. But i think here a normal reinstall to the application can work. If not, just reset the phone. If you don't want to, look for an alternate application.
This is very serious, you need a proper Mobile App
Friend, this is very serious you need a good pill reminder app for your parent.
I suggest you approach a Mobile App Development Company with a very strong portfolio for your requirement. Space-O Technologies is one such company you should look out for. Do fill their contact form for a free consultation.

Help - Huawei data management services is eating my battery

Hello,
So the day s10+ comes out is the day this freaky huawei software started to act funny!
Somehow I went down from 8+ SOT to less than 4, on the second charge I checked the battery usage and WOW! An app called huawei data management services is just running in the background and eating as much as a heavy game like future fight from my battery
What is this?? Anyone faced this issue? Is there a fix or huawei is just not happy with how much they frustrate us with the sh!ty EMUI and Decided to give us another present to make our choice much worse?
It's part of the android system process, what you could try is clearing the cache regularly I have done this before and I see a huge difference.
You can also try disabling the powergenie application There's a thread in here on how to do it.
If I don't clean up my cache I get 11 minutes before dropping to 99%
If I clean the cache I can get up to 43 minutes before dropping to 99%
Android system processes
Clearing cache didn't help
The problem still there. Anyone can help?
Yeah something isn't right now, put my phone down at 96% on the table, picked up 4 hours later it's at 85%
Android system & Kernel the two biggest issues over 6% Everything else had less than 1% to 0% used.

Someone who reported the same problem on his P20 Pro said restoring his phone to factory settings fixed it.
But if it's caused by corrupted system data you would need to set up your phone as new rather than restore from a backup (including a Google Cloud Backup) because the backup could restore the system data that is causing your problem.
I think Huawei Data Management Services is similar to Google Play Services and that apps (including downloaded third party apps) use the process to sync data so a misbehaving app could cause the issue without showing up in the battery monitor as causing drain.
You could also try turning off Huawei Share to verify that it isn't causing your problem.
What is annoying is battery/app launch 3 dots.... launch record's
I see apps being launched by other applications that I haven't even used in the last few hours, even when I have set secondary launch off for those apps.
Apps are also being launched when launch on Start up is deactivated.
Mate 20 pro battery drain
Help! My Mate 20 Pro is a battery draining monster. Huawei Data Management is taking over 30% of my consumption. I've tried factory data reset twice, but no improvement. Please help!
Clearing cache is not going to fix anything. Hasn't since probably Gingerbread.
In fact it just chews more resources to rebuild that cache.
I got this issue two update ago. Now on .243. I did a factory reset and set up my phone from scratch. No restores from Google drive or Huawei phone clone. The issue is gone since. Battery as good as ever.
Hello,
I have the same issue. Any way to solve it without restore ?
Thanks
Use Assistant for Android to kill the process at startup
Hi,
You can install Assistant for Android
to kill the process at startup. Open the app, select startup manager, go to system processes and select Huawei data manager. Restart and voila.

Install Assistant for Android app to kill the process at the startup. Go to tools, startup manager, system processes, check huawei data management. Restart and voila.
Had the same issue after 9.1 update. Before no drain was presented. Now huawei data management services have got 30% of total battery cinsumptiin.
What i have done so far just trying to fix the issue :
1. Re install update via erecovery, 2 times
2. Hard reset. Once with restoring from huawei backup, next time almsot from the scratch
3. Deleted all photos/videos from the device (more than 15k files)
4. Uninstall huawei backup
5. Clear cash in recovery mode
No results at all!! This fu***g huawei data management services come again and again! I have to charge the Phone by 14- 15 am, when it droppes down to 25-30% of battery with 1.5 - 2 SOT only...
This just drives me crazy! No idea what to do next!
Ps
Was watching note 10 presentation by Samsung tonight... Seems to be good, note plus has 4300 mah battery... Start to think...
Same thing here.

Hi, seems i did found this little bastard. Not sute it makes me happy, but ready to share :
So far in my case huawei data management services starts eating battery just after i switch on calendar sync with my work office 365 account. And it not depends on which calendar apps i am using on device. I tried it with huawei built in calendar app, with Google calendar and with Business calendar pro. As soon as i turn on sync with work calendar account heawei data services starts eating the batt. Once calendar sync being turned off huawei data services stops..
Other interesting thing is it just about calendar sync, email sync with same account not triggering batt drain. So i suppose that huawei broke sometging in 9.1 in cal sync mechanizm, sync before it works without problem. Will try to send notice to them
Hope it helps. Try to stop cal sync if you have one.
Regards
Sergey
I had the same problem - and for me that cal sync fix (@sergey1974x) solved it. Thank you so much!

Thanks, Sergey! Do you mean automatic synchronization option? I see that one under Users & Accounts / Google / Calendar. It seems helpful, but then a Google calendar does not function. I suspect maybe a stock app is glitchy. Have you tried to remove an access to calendar for the stock app and keep it only for a Google app?
Hi all,
I had the same issue as described by others here under 9.1.0.310. Did factory reset and clean setup but the issue was back after a couple of hours.
As I also have a spare Pixel 3xl I finally decided to remove one of the 2 SIM cards from the Mate to put it in the Pixel. I subsequently noticed that the power consumption of the mate was back to normal. Can't even see Huawei data management any more in the battery stats whereas before it was in 1st position with over 25%.
I did some more testing and it turns out that for me it was the "Dual 4G/LTE SIM card" and "swap LTE connection during calls" sliders in the SIM management menu (free translation of the menu names as I run French UI).
I'm now back to normal consumption with 2 SIM cards in the device but above sliders set to off and data on SIM 1 only.

Hi, thats defenitely not an app issue. I tried several apps like native Huawei calendar, Google and business pro calendar. As soon as i am turning on sync with my work exchange or office 365 account - Huawei data management services starts eating the bat. Once sync turned off - Huawei data management stops. And its only about exchange accout, once Gmail account cal is syncing no problem at all.
I rolled back to 9.0 - issue dissaoered, all was good for 2 days.. . But then Phone self - installed 9.1 overnight. Same **** today so its really 9.1 issue. Hope they will fix next versions...
