So, does the US998 have usable band 71? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Thread title.
The rollout is well underway. Could one of you gents within range of one of the towers please force band 71 on, and see if you get any signal?

No.
-- Brian

Well, that's unfortunate.
It's an H932 on the shopping list after all, then.

We don't need band 71 though to operate on T-Mobile right? I mean I have a V20 and V10 and they don't get band71. It s just newer phone correct?

Strictly speaking, no. It's not a CDMA sort of situation, lack of band 71 isn't going to make any phones outright obsolete.
T-Mobile is rolling it out hard to improve their coverage, particularly in places that don't have a signal now: rural areas for instance, the sort of places where Verizon has reigned supreme for entirely too long. I would say that band 71 is TMO's Verizon-killer, but I know better...it's going to take more than stiff competition to rid the world of Verizon, unfortunately.
It's not completely rolled out yet, but I figure if I'm going to get a "new" phone and switch to T-Mobile, I might as well future-proof a bit and be able to use their full network once it gets there.

This is a little OT...I remember reading that apple wasn't going to have any phones on tmobile that supported the new band. But it seems that is untrue with the latest release of iphones.

Yea, that was the case with the 8 and 10. If I recall right, they were using the Intel radio prior to the one that supports band 71.
There was apparently quite the push to get the H932 out as the band 71 flagship, with the probable intention to boost contract sales for more money to do the rollout with. Poor ol' T-Mobile didn't realize (until it was way too late) just how bad LG's marketing and PR departments are, I guess. What a mess.
Seems the later-2018 iPhones do include support due to a newer radio, though, along with a bunch of other 2018 phones.

yup false alarm...........
I don't think the retraction of the tweet is any indication T-Mob wont be getting the S2. With the Galaxy 4G coming out in a few days, if mainstream customers new there was a phone twice as good on the horizon it would obliterate S4G sales. Plus from my understanding there's nothing in the specs that eliminates T-Mob as a possibility. 90% chance T-Mob gets this phone, which I'm of course stoked about.
This phone is said to be shipping with AT&T's 3G, but that it will work with any carrier. So, for you T-Mobile users, it will probably work, but only for 2G speeds. Sorry.
There is absolutely no way Samsung will make this super phone and limit its data potential to Att's ****ty 3G.

dont forget tmobile has a 5gb limit its NOT unlimited
Per the link you supplied:
HSPA+ 21Mbps/ HSUPA 5.76Mbps
EDGE/ GPRS Class 12
Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Quad band UMTS 850/900/1900/2100
Seems to me T-mobile's HSPA+ will be compatible, unless I'm completely missing something.
And to the above comment, 5G is plenty, even for most heavy users.
Won't this device support both 3G company's? From the specs of the link
false alarm

Sure, T-Mobile UK is compatible
T-Mobile US's HSPA+ uses 1700/2100 or AWS.

Gotcha. I don't see why T-mobile wouldn't get this phone, as i said before, suppressing of information seems to be just a marketing strategy to not crush S4G sales coming up.
they wont get this phone immediatley as it will complete with the sgs 4g which they are getting.. eventually they may get it.
If the device is coming out in march outside the states, I'd think the new one will come out in some form in June or July like the last one did. That will give tmo a few months to sell their vibrant 4g and then allow it to be a decent midrange model thereafter. Considering that the 4g is going to be 149 with contract, its already the price of of a non flagship T-Mobile device. That could mean we have a small chance of getting this phone in April or may. They still need to make an aws version in order for us to have the phone on tmo. Given how much market share they made with the last galaxy I really think Samsung will want to not lose their lead in android market share. We will get at least some version of this phone. I hope now that US carriers all have ffc and the other features left out of the previous galaxy s for the states, that they won't need to give us a stripped gs2. Just my 2 cents.

i'm waiting for the AWS version of the SGS2.... it's gonna be a long loooooooong wait, with the SGS4G stuck in between
I'm almost certain it is.

that's one thing you do not need to worry about
look at the line of Galaxy S (Generation 1) phones, they have practically 1 variant for each single cell phone carrier on the planet.
some carriers even have 3 models of the same Galaxy S family
for example Tmobile USA have:
Galaxy S Vibrant
Nexus S
Galaxy S 4G
so we'll see our own flavor of SGS2 in due time
knowing their crazy naming scheme
i'll not be surprised to hear Galaxy S Vibrant II LOL
and probably comes with something chopped off like missing FFC or who knows what.
Hopefully they'll get some version of it... ATT blows..
So... any idea on how we're going to know which is the original phone model?
I guess we would just go off of the one coming out in March, and then try to buy that model off of whichever carrier carries it?
Because I wasn't very fond of the different versions of the Galaxy S - the Vibrant, the I9000 (which might be the same), the Captivate, the... who knows what else? Each carrier here (Rogers, Telus and Bell) had different versions. I don't even know what other ones like Virgin or WIND may have had for it (if they carried it).

Universal phone? Verizon and T-mobile?

Hi, im looking for a phone which would work with both verizon and T-mobile. Why both? well im in an odd situation, where im halfway through my contract with verizon, but want to switch to T-mobile. But my phone right now barely even works at the moment, so i need a new one, which I can bring over with me when i switch to T-mobile
I need a phone which works on both carriers or else I will end up buying to phones at full price, and I wouldnt want to do that!. Any help wpuld be extremely appreciated, there has to be some kind of smartphone out there thats capable of this

A lot of phones these days are tri/quad-band. This means they operate on 3 or 4 frequencies ranges.
I'm not from the US so I'm not 100% sure but I believe Verizon is a CDMA based network while T-Mobile uses GSM (or WCDMA).
This would mean that most phones cannot be taken from one to the other. However many newer phones are released in carrier specific versions but don't have any hardware differences. Its often very hard to test/confirm this without having the specific device in your hand.
Google suggests that the iPhone 5, 5C & 5S from Verizon is unlocked and works on T-Mobiles 3G & 4G networks. So this could be an option.
As far as android handsets go, most of the phones I can find dont have a good overlap of frequencies for both networks.
Using the LG G2 as an example, the T-Mobile versions of most handsets use 850/1700/1900/2100 for 3G and LTE Bands 2, 4, 17. Verizon uses 850/900/1900/2100 for 3G and LTE Bands 4, 13. There is a little overlap there, 3G @ 850, 900 & 2100, but the LTE coverage is limited to Band 4 which could result in some negative experiences coverage wise on T-Mobile.

[Q] Switching from VZW to TMo?

Hello,
First and foremost I'd like to say .... Man, it feels good to be back. I left Android for a few years due to battery issues. I just left VZW and switched from a iPhone 5 to a Note 3 on T-Mobile. My wife has a VZW HTC One (M7) and I was told it would work on TMo, so far we are having no luck getting anything besides Edge. Sorry if already posted but I did look around to try to find an answer. I have spent time talking to VZW, TMo and HTC and no luck. Will rooting give me the ability to fix this?

Verizon phones rarely work on other carriers. Besides the fact that they usually lock the SIM (meaning only VZW SIM cards will work unless you leave the US - ie: "global phone"), different cellular frequency bands are used. Specs on the M7 that I found on phonearena state that the VZW M7 uses 700MHz (band 13), which T-Mobile doesn't use (PA's specs aren't always 100%% though). So even if you could unlock the SIM somehow, you wouldn't get data; not at LTE speeds anyway. LTE radios in phones are actually fairly expensive components, so carriers will often order specific versions from the manufacturers that only support their own bands to keep costs down (and/or profits high).
I think your best bet would be to sell or trade the M7 for a T-Mobile or unlocked one.

Time to start getting involved with Android scene again, thanks !!!

4G frequencies of Honor 8x

Hi, some of you know the 4G frequencies of Honor 8x (No MAX). Is that there is controversy in some sales pages and in the Chinese official does not clarify.
In some they say that they have the B7 and in others they do not, thank you very much for your help.
it's rolling out now. well see as reports come in. early results this will not work LTE & vokte in USA TMobile or ATT. I am wondering if there will be different versions.

The phone is releasing in the US, they even held an event in NY recently...
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Honor-8X-smartphone-now-official-for-U-S-market.336630.0.html
What's not clear is whether it'll support B46, B66, and B71 for T-Mobile.
band 71 will probably make it break many unlocked phones in the USA. myself I won't buy one unless it has band 71 and preferably band 66 as well. no one works volte with ATT and OnePlus is preparing to sell thru T-Mobile

If this representative is right we might not have to wait long for band info. Huawei phones usually launch around Oct - Feb.
The Honor 7x, View 10 and Mate 10 Pro feature 2, 4 and 12. So I'm a little concerned about the company's support for newer bands in the US.
I do not have high expectations for band 66 and 71. i want to be wrong though
Haha. I'm trying to stay optimistic. Very few phones around ~$200 carry a battery this size and certification by Rheinland. If Huawei disappoints there aren't any real alternatives.
Well, no. There's the Moto G7 but that's several months away.

Question Verizon question

So I've been on iPhone for a while and was really interested in moving over to this to come back to Android, but the lack of band 13 support kills the deal for me.
I don't suppose enabling additional bands is an option on this phone, I know in the past some models were able to via various methods, but figuring it's a long shot here. This is about the only device I'd be interested in switching to if I were to make the jump.
You wont be able to activate any bands that is not already baked into the radio. However, I'm using it on VZW just fine with n77 NSA working properly. Are you normally in a place for VZW where b5 850mhz won't reach but b13 700mhz will?
Not sure, I've never really checked what bands I'm using. This was more of a "I'm interested in it but don't want to buy it and regret because of connectivity". Thanks for the input!

Verizon (United States of America)Cell Tower Map
CellMapper is a crowd-sourced cellular tower and coverage mapping service.
www.cellmapper.net
Move the map to where you normally are, see if you have a decently dense network of verizon towers, then see if they support any bands other than b13.
b13 will be the nationwide rural / extended range coverage. If you live in a major city, you should see dense 2/66. If you are in certain places, you'll see decently b5 coverage.
