Android x86 Oreo RC2 - Lenovo Yoga Book Guides, News, & Discussion

http://www.android-x86.org/releases/releasenote-8-1-rc2
Available as of Oct 18.
Seeing as how Lenovo abandoned further updates a year ago, is there any way/hope to get this up and running on the Yoga with all/most of the intended functionality?

No.
There a multiple Android x86 distributions. Some of them will even boot on the Yoga Book, none of them will work well. The drivers for much of the proprietary hardware in the Yoga book has not been released or reverse engineered. Also, the modding/dev community around the Yoga book is basically non-existent.

[Q] will Ubuntu Netbook Remix work on viewpad 10?

I am thinking about getting the viepad 10 with the intel Atom processor and was wondering if any existing viewpad 10 owners/users have tried dual booting this instead of android. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR it is designed for netbooks, so in theory it should work just fine given there are drivers for the hardware. if this would work even with a little tweaking to get all the hardware working, it would be an exceptional tablet IMO, and an excellent substitute for honeycomb. (until it gets ported or released for the tablet)
I would post this in the viewpad 10 section but... there isn't one (yet)
Sorry to bump this topic but I have an answer to your problem. You can get the last version of Ubuntu Netbook Remix working by using this guide:
http://www.ollie-reardon.co.uk/ubuntu-10-10-viewpad-10/
To find what other Linux Distributions work on the Viewpad 10 here is a small list (But it's growing fast!!):

Hope that helps!

Not sure about compatibility with Viewpad 10, but it might provide another option for a starting point.
The Viewpad 10 has got an Intel Atom inside so really it's just a matter of USB booting a Linux Distribution like Ubuntu 11.04.

[Q] windows 8 arm nvidia tegra 2 support

Is this true??
Windows 8 arm on g tablet?
Maybe, maybe not. Way too early to speculate on an OS that is not even at ReleaseCandidate yet.
For perspective:
1. We are still awaiting a new OTA update
2. Honeycomb is still in question
It's true that Microsoft is working on Windows 8 to have it running on the ARM based systems.
There is however no information that Windows 8 would ever run on the Gtablet (memory, storage, additional required hardware, system design, etc....could all be issues).
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/12/microsoft-pushes-out-preview-build-of-internet-explorer-10/
IE10 in Windows 8 (ARM), running on a Tegra 2 processor.
Hope to see this happen in the future. Would love to have Windows o/s on my tablet.
Speaking of Windows running on an Android tablet, I had a cheapy ZT-180 tablet that could boot into WinCe & the specs of this tablet were no where near the G-Tabs. Has anyone tried installing that on a G-Tab?

Porting WP on Android phones with x32 bit Computer chips?

I have a K900 with an Intel Chip. I sincerely and in all honesty think it is capable of running Windows OS. And now since Windows below 9" is free, we can try to port it.
I am ready to learn how to do it on my own too. So, if you guys have any guides also, do let me know/share it with me.
Thanks!
Hi, the fact that Microsoft doesn't charge anymore for the OS on devices with screens of less than 9" doesn't mean that the OS will be available for every single device in the world... Your phone has an x86 architecture, but that's the only thing that it shares with the Windows compatible devices. Sorry to say this, but Microsoft will never release an open source OS.

RemixOS / PhoenixOS on ARM device ?

Hello everyone,
I see a lot of demand for one of these two DesktopOS/Android for ARM device, like old tablet (Galaxy Note 10.1) or chromebook (HP11).
When I read a lot of topics, I see that a lot of people said NO IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR NOW, and some other said IT'S ALREADY EXIST.
Apparently RemixOS already exist for ARM (like Jide Mini) and PhoenixOS seems to be already compatible.
Does anyone had a solution ? An ultimate answer ?
And if it's yes, maybe a guide for these tablet or chromebook ?
My goal is simple, I would like to test one of these two OS, but don't want to test it on virtual machine or dual boot. For me, these OS are really a good thing, but only for portable device.
Thanks for your futures answers

They use x86 based kernels, from the android x86 project, which means no suppport for ARM devices. Atleast, not yet.
PhoenixOS was just posted in the nexus 9 forum. No working Gapps yet though. Still, progress!
In order for that to be possible, Jide needs to make ports to those devices themselves. The only alternative is fully open-source to allow others to port it themselves. Basically, so long as Jide holds the keys, you can't drive the car where you want.
Thanks for your reply

Lack of support for Cherry Trail chipset?

Seems very odd to me that there is little of no support for Cherry Trail (ie: Intel z85xx or z87xx) chip sets (SOCs) by the RemixOS for PC and Android-x86 development teams!
I just did a search on the internet, and almost every Intel based device that I found (that had an 8 to 12 inch screen) was based on Cherry Trail SOCs. This included Microsoft Surface devices (except Surface Pro), almost every device coming out of China, and virtually every other Windows 10 tablet device. Whats more, all of the "Intel Stick" computer devices are based on Cherry Trail.
This small Intel based devices are the places where RemixOS and Android-x86 seem most useful.
NOTE: I have tried (installing RemixOS and Android-x86 on) 3 of these small devices. RemixOS would not boot on ANY of the devices I tried. Android-x86 only booted on 1 of them, and the WIFI and sound didn't work on that device.
It is not odd, just really hard. Support for Cherry Trail and Bay Trail are spotty to poor in all Linux based operating systems at the moment. Intel doesn't seem too keen to aid Linux development here like they do with much of their products, so it is much more difficult for developers to figure out how to create working drivers and kernel support for these devices.
