Is fingerprint sensor working?? - Honor 8X Questions & Answers

So I configured the fingerprint sensor to unlock using my left fourth finger and been using it during the now couple of weeks I have the 8X, until I realized this morning that any of my fingers was unlocking the device :crying:
Have you guys experienced the same problem? I would like to figure out if either it is my device which has an issue, or if it is the an overall problem shared by all.
Thanks in advance

did u try to remove all of the fingerprints ID and start setting em' up again?

mine is working fine i have left and right index finger configured. like hazem said try to remove all fingerprints and re configure

Thank you for your posts (the 2 of you) you were right, reconfigured from scratch and now it works perfectly fine.
I feel like it is faster than face recognition.

[Q] landscape mode bug with lockscreen

Hi All,
I found a bug and want to see if it only affects my rom or others. I'm running Resurrection 2.5.3 on a SGS2.
DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU WANT A CHALLENGE TRYING TO UNLOCK YOUR PHONE W/O THE OK BUTTON. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
If you want to try this and you have the pin lock on, i suggest using a simple pin number consisting of only 1,2 4 and 5. Also turn on the feature that automatically unlocks w/o hitting OK.
To repro the bug:
* lock your screen into landscape mode with auto-rotate turned off.
* let the phone lock.
*If you have the pin lockscreen enabled, when the display comes back up, you can only see the top left corner of the keypad. On my phone I couldn't not press the OK button after i entered my pin.
* I finally managed to unlock using adb and screen caster.
Anyone else experience this? I have to say it's really annoying. Took a bit of time to figure out how to login.

How do you unlock the phone with fingerprint?

Hello everybody
I want to know how fingerprint unlocking works with that phone. I mean if, when the screen is off, you have to press the button and then swipe the finger over the sensor, or you can only touch the sensor, or you have to swipe it, or you have to turn the screen on and then touch the sensor, etc etc.
Other question, is it possible to use always the fingerprint? Or there are situations in which you have to use the pattern/pin/password in any case? (I mean after rebooting the system or when you turn the screen off from an app, for example)
Thank you
Best regards

You need to unlock manually using the pattern/alternativ unlocking method after each reboot.
To unlock with fingerprint you simple have to push the power button so the device wakes up and leave your finger on the power button for like a second to recognize your fingerprint. After that you are in the home/main screen

Thank you for your reply
Excluding at reboot, is there other cases in which you have to insert pin/pattern for unlocking instead of simple fingerprint?
How accurate is fingerprint identification? I mean, you have only to keep the finger on the power button in 100% cases or sometimes fingerprint is not recognized or recognized slowly or you have to take the finger off and then touch the sensor again, or swipe the finger on it and so on?
(I'm sorry for these questions but I'm trying to decide between z5c and xc)

If your fingers are really sweaty or "dirty" you have to touch the sensor again/a few times (moving the finger doesnt help, you have to retouch it). But most of the times (98%?) it works on first touch.

Okok, thank you. I'm trying to compare z5c and xc, and on many reviews online I found that the fingerprint scanner is more fast, responsive and accurate on xc than z5c.
And for the other specs, do you recommend me z5c or xc?

Fingerprint sensor/ Lockscreen

Hello,
Long time lurker here and was hoping for some advice/ suggestions.
I have a Canadian S9 Plus (on Bell Mobility) and noticed the following issues/ annoyances:
1) When the phone is woken up (e.g. pressing the virtual home button, plugged into charger, new text message received, etc.), the screen would turn on, continuously look for fingerprints ("Wipe the fingerprint sensor and try again" message would keep flashing) and would not shut off until I press the power button to turn off the screen
2) The fingerprint sensor generally works (e.g. unlocks the phone, swipes to drop down notification window), HOWEVER it does not work to unlock the phone if the phone has been sleeping for more than a few minutes (nothing happens no matter which direction I swipe/ press the fingerprint sensor). When I try to unlock the phone, I will have to press the power button to wake up the phone then swipe the fingerprint sensor. This may be a standard feature, but after pressing the power button to wake up the screen I will always get a message that says "The fingerprint sensor may be dirty. Clean it and try again.". Again the fingerprint sensor otherwise works so cleanliness of the sensor isn't really an issue here.
Has this happened to anyone's phone? I tried clearing cache/ resetting app preferences/ factory resetting the phone multiple times but with no luck. I also called Samsung but the conversation didn't go anywhere.
Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!
Have not had that issue with mine.

Tried both finger gesture on and off - no difference with the same issues persisting :crying:
this is the exact issue im facing when i got my s9+, i also thought that it was a factory defect. but luckily recently it didnt came up again and i did nothing. but still continuing monitoring the issue as it is really so bothersome.
Sounds like a defect to me. I'd exchange it.
I have not had any issues. Have you tried re-scanning your fingers? I noticed that this finger print scanner is different from the one on my LG V20. It feels different, and seems to operate different. It's also a little smaller which makes me have to position my fingers different.
I also read the instructions wrong.. I was supposed to swipe my finger during the setup. I was pressing it down. Either way mine works great.
Same issue here, did you manage to solve it?

Not at all - I ended up returning it. Any luck on your end?
Maybe try registering your finger/s with and without a case on. See what happens.
Same issue here. This is the one thing that really bugs me about this phone.

Question fingerprint button on the side

Hello,
I have a ZF9 for a few days and I can't get used to the fingerprint on the side. I often unlock it by mistake when I put it in my pocket.
You don't have a problem with that?
I didn't have a problem with other devices with a fingerprint on the side, I set to physically press it. It cannot be set on ZF9.
I'm unhappy about it

I have this problem to, its very gentleness
Same problem until found that you can unlock only by pressing the button unlock
and not only touch it
you goes to settings -> security & lock screen -> Fingerprint -> screen off unlock
and you have two options press or touch and press only
choose "press only"
well thank you!

Oh, this is so smart! I had the issue of my phone going weird places when I pull it out of my pocket sometimes, even with pocket mode enabled, and I didn't realize what caused it... Now I found the problem along with a solution in this thread. Thanks
Wooh, thanks, i thought it was an issue on my zf9

Try this!Run the test, and see if it corrects the fingerprint issue!
1: Clear the lock screen and restart the phone
2: Enter the engineering mode after booting (#*462633*#500#) or (*#546368#*500#)
3: Select the device test
4: Select SAAT
5: Select the service menu-manual test
6: Choose optical fingerprint test
7:Hit start, and see if that corrects it!
i did tried that which ended up the same as before, i did link some attachments in the replies to show the problem better
