New Phone - Mysterious Files in Download Folder - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone, I just got a new XZ1 today (purchased from recommended Sony retailer as new), but I noticed some unknown files in the downloads folder I'm worried about, has anybody else noticed these or know what they are?
File list:
rce_plugin_string_resource_pt_BR.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_fr_FR.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_de_DE.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_en_US.test.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_it_IT.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_es_ES.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_cz_CZ.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_ja_JP.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_v2_TYPO_TEST.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_zh_CN.json.min
rce_plugin_string_resource_nl_NL.json.min
CS_JIT_Animation.mp4
jit_cs_positive_preview.png
Opening one of the files in VSCode, this is what the file looks like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I'm worried about "rce" since that seems eerily close to remote code execution.
Any advice very much appreciated.

I just found the exact same files in the download directory of an old Verizon Ellipsis tablet I just reset and renewed a few days ago. It is running 5.1.1 Lollipop

Did you find any info on this? Thx!

Bump! Found this on a phone that was purchased/reset a few days ago. BB Key2 on android 8.1.0
Files only show up when i insert a USB drive and open the file copy android native UI. Does not show up on ghostcommander unless i move the files to a new directory (but then stupid android UI deletes and recreates the file, losing all original metadata such as permission, owner etc... and the useless android UI where i can see/copy the files, do not show permission/owner)

[HELP] Strange files using all RAM-memory!!

I suddenly noticed that I only had about 1MB free program memory left to play with (when I usually have about 15MB). I searched the whole memory for large files and find these in the Windows folder:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
They do totally use up ~20MB!
I can also see that they were created on the 15th January (yesteday) thus I'm quite sure it has to be these file that caused my memory loss.
The files are not able to delete.
Does someone have a clue of where the files came from and what to do to get ried of them?
Help would be very much appreciated.
AFAIK the files are related to Pocket Outlook.
These files should be maintained by Pocjet Outlook as well
Tried a soft-reset?
Have you restored any backup or something?
I also noticed on your screenshot that the files are double as well, one with 2,71MB size and one with 2,62KB????
The are _not_ using your memory. They are Pocket Outlook databases and i have no idea why OS shows it (another bug in WM2003 for XDA?) but if you do a hard reset and sync, you'll have these files, BUT you'll have allmost all avaible memory. So they are just showing these big sizes but they're not - you shouldnt care about it .
I removed all my programs (installed on SD-card) before I would do a hardreset and then my old ~15MB memory was back(?) I reinstalled the programs and the memory is as high as is were before
Conclusion: Something must have went wrong when installing a program to the SD-card
Thanks for the help, though. Now I know that those files I found are not evil.
it's not a 2003 bug because 2002 showed them aswell

[Solved] SDK issue

First, I wasn't quite sure where I should put this, so if theres a better forum for it, please move it.
I feel like a real idiot right now, but nonetheless I'm having issues getting Eclipse 3.5.2 and the Android SDK to work (on Mac OS X).
I got as far as installing the ADT plugin and then once I got to "showing" Eclipse where the Android SDK was located I failed miserably. Every time I navigate to the folder and hit open and then apply nothing happens, it just stays at the "default" no SDK(s) screen. Bit hard to explain, so I took a screenshot.
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So if anyone knows how to get that to work, it would be really appreciated. Maybe I screwed up something really obvious, that would be just my luck.
Umm, have you downloaded all the developer tools in the SDK? Launch the android binary in the /tools/ folder and look for available packages and install them all, or the ones you'll be using at least.

Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Wasn't sure if that would work, I'll give it a try and let you know.
Hooray that worked.
Thanks a ton GrdLock.

[TRICK] How To Make The Lockscreen Transparent *super easy*

locate (or create) the following file and disable the read permissions
/data/data/com.cooliris.media/files/zzzzzz_lockscreen_wallpaper.jpg
(to locate/create and edit the above file permissions use a file manager app able to navigate the /data folder.
NOTE: Manual edit of files in /data folder require root permissions so the Andriod system must be rooted first
NOTE2: This trick works on Samsung Galaxy Y stock ROM, on which the system looks for the file zzzzzz_lockscreen_wallpaper.jpg located in /data/data/com.cooliris.media/files to be used as lockscreen wallpaper. Other ROMs might look for different filename and/or different location.)
That's it!

As side note I want to add that my first read about this topic was, about two weeks ago, a thread started by XDA member recognized contributor marcussmith2626 more than one year ago (How To Make The Lockscreen Transparent) which explains a more sophisticated way to get the lockscreen transparent and that might work on a variety of ROM and devices.
Then I accidentally discovered the above trick by my own (I forgot to set the permissions after replacing the jpg file) and I decided to share it here even though I don't know if anyone had posted the same trick before as comment at the marcussmith2626 thread or anywhere else in XDA or the Internet virtual space
wooooow,awesome:laugh:
thnx for rhis.as easy and as simple as it can ever beeee.so cooooool
nice trick
Thanks for your guide its very very easy =D

Adding charger over OTG to a kernel

Hi,
As the title suggests, I am looking to add the ability to charge my device at the same time as using USB OTG. The device in question is a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 LTE (SM-T235).
Let me start by saying this is my first step into android development, so I'm currently just Googling everything and attempting to follow some guides I found, but I'm still unable to work out which files I need to edit before compiling.
I have downloaded the latest kernel sources from the Samsung development website, extracted them and downloaded toolchain, as per THIS guide.
I have then been attempting to copy the process used HERE to enable the feature, but as that applied to the OPO, I assume the process is slightly different for the Galaxy Tab. I've searched for all the files that contain OTG and there's a lot of them, I can't work out what I need to edit. See screenshot:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(For some reason I have tried 3 different image hosts and it isn't showing up so screenshot has been attached as well.
I have uploaded the contents of the drivers/usb folder from the kernel sources at the following like:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9o8Fezf-53KY0dKUlhZc2VmNGc
If anyone has the time and knowledge to have a look at this and help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
I would like to use my Tab 4 as usb host too. Does OTG without charging work with your SM-T235, @crumble6 ? If yes, maybe this supply would work.
