galaxy tab 4 car installation project guide (photos will be added along the way) - Galaxy Tab 4 Accessories

So I recently bought a car that came with an awful looking pioneer radio that lit up and flashed like a christmas tree, after the drive home i decided id had enough straight away, so it was trailed out immediately.
So i have started this guide as to the process of my install in as much detail as i can.
To start with context, I have a rooted galaxy tab 4 running PixelizedOS to start with the tablet will be built into the dash of the car running of a usb power source connected to the cars ignition, then linked to a hidden radio head unit behind the glovebox via aux cable (reason being is to utilize the FM module, bluetooth handsfree and internal amp in the headunit).
to make this work i needed a few things so i got my hands an a radio headunit, i opted for a non-cd unit as it makes it more compact and easier to install to hide the unit behind the dash, the unit also comes with wireless remote that means the unit does not need to be accessed everytime master volume needs adjusted for example, a quality aux cable, micro usb and adapter for cigarette lighter socket.

}
So what i have done is root a galaxy tab 4, which is a perfect fit for my double din space on my dash. Next installed the app "car launcher pro" and customised to suit the dash, in my case Mitsubishi, colour, etc (perfect app for anyone doing a similar build) and installed the tasker pro and secure settings app.
with the tasker app i set up profiles to kill and launch each app that needs to be run (in my case, car launcher pro, tunein and google play music) this insures that when usb power is cut with the ignition switch that the sound turns off. next i set up a profile to turn off lock the system when power off
PROFILE+ > STATE > POWER > POWER (leave source "ANY")
NEW TASK > + >DISPLAY SYSTEM LOCK.
this will insure the display turns off when power is cut.
to power the screen up
PROFILE+ > STATE > POWER > POWER (leave source "ANY", change setting to invert)
NEW TASK > + > PLUGIN > SECURE SETTINGS > CONFIGURATION > SYSTEM + ACTIONS > STAY AWAKE WHEN CHARGING.
then i set a profile to power the system off completely after 10 minutes of screen off to save the battery from draining everytime i leave the vehicle over night.
to do this i
PROFILE+ > STATE > POWER > POWER (leave source "ANY", change setting to invert)
NEW TASK > + > TASK > WAIT > 10 MINUTES.
NEW TASK > + > SYSTEM > REBOOT > SHUTDOWN.
that was the easier part the task was to power up the tablet from completely off, i even had a post here on XDA to try and find a away. i did manage to find full proof way of doing this
so
1. we are looking for a file called lpm in the /system/bin/ folder
2. rename it lpm.old
3 . create a new file named lpm, edit it to have the following commands
#!/system/bin/sh
sleep 2
/system/bin/reboot
4.change the line termination to unix (possibly not necessary)
5. change permissions to RWX R-X R-X
6. change group owner to shell
7. power down and connect power to test.
this boot sequence was not mine i found this on youtube named "Android Mod: Boot automatically when plugged in [REQUIRES ROOT]" so credit to TRYTHISIPTV
So now that the tablet its pritty much programmed to do the basics, i will next start to install the system into the car and i will add a follow up post with how to install the units.
NOTE : as above i do not take credit for the boot sequence boot change, modify and change settings at your own risk, just because it worked for me it may not work for you. also in terms of some of the guys on here at XDA i am a noob with programming etc,i am a auto electrican by trade, so i will answer any questions as best I can.
credit to
TRYTHISIPTV for the video
car launcher pro, tasker and secure settings for the apps
and finally i took inspiration for this product from the awesome guys at Mighty Car Mods, they did this with an ipad, but i prefer to work with android.
if this helped you in any way click thanks and let me know. more guide to follow

Thanks for the tutorial... I been wanting to do this for a long time now. If you have time to post how you mounted the tab it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi SICKMADE, currently the tablet if being sandwiched between a layer of rubber i have installed over the double din slot ( to stop the tablet falling into the huge hole left by the radio and to give it some grip) and the front fascia surround.
At the minute it is quite a rough looking install for prototyping at the moment, but I do Intend to improve this as I have a 3d printer being delivered soon, so once it arrives I will be prototyping some mounting plates, the idea will be to close off the tablet apart from the screen so that when left in a car park some people don't look in and see a shiny "SAMSUNG" logo and attract the wrong attention, then Bye bye tablet.
I will get some more photos posted shortly.

Automatically turn on your speakerphone.
While the application is running, when an incoming call is received, the speakerphone of your device will automatically turn ON when you receive the call.
You can also automatically activate the speakerphone when you are making an outgoing call by checking the Outgoing ON in the menu.
It should work on smartphone and PocketPC WM5/WM6
I've tested it on my T-Mobile Dash WM6 and worked fine
Buy Me a Cup of Coffee
Change Log v1.06 DOWNLOAD v1.06
- fixed bugs (hope it works on other devices now)
- added taskbar icon (green phone icon)
- tap on the green icon on the task bar to show the notification bubble to be able to close the application
Change Log v1.05
- auto minimize on start
- No more today task bar icon
- fixed the on-hold situation on some phones *hopefully* (it worked on my PPC)
Change Log v1.04 (Tested on PPC)
- Application will automatically hide upon launch and will show an icon.
Note: Copy the folder contents to your phone's "\Storage Card\Program Files\SpeakerPhone\" folder
to change the icon, just copy over the SpeakerPhone.ico file
Change Log v1.03
- outgoing function is automatically on
- few bug fixes
Change Log v1.02
- USB only - option to turn on speakerphone ONLY when synced or charging
Change Log v1.01
- Auto answer on/off
- Delay options before auto answer
NOTE: before executing the application, create these STRING values first:
HKCU\Software\SpeakerPhone\Auto with value = 0
HKCU\Software\SpeakerPhone\Delay with value = 5000
HKCU\Software\SpeakerPhone\USB with value = 0
Thank you!
Finally one switcher that really works!
All other apps (including Phonealarm profiles etc) switch the speakerphone on only if you switch it DURING the call (unless I'm doing something wrong that is). This one works nice. I have a question though, is it possible to set 'outgoing ON' to ON by default?
AND, is it possible to start it in the background (I'd like to run it automatically when the profile changes)?
Any command line parameters? Changes in registry?
Great program! Works on my Tilt fine.
Thanks!
@sabestian:
I have a question though, is it possible to set 'outgoing ON' to ON by default?
- yes, i'll do that in the next release
AND, is it possible to start it in the background (I'd like to run it automatically when the profile changes)?
- i'll check this one.
@sabestian and jon_k:
- thank you for trying it out guys.
Great program! Thank you!
It would be great to have the "Outgoing ON" restored in the last state.
Also, would it be possible to design it in a "Toggle" way - to turn the speaker ON with the first launch, and OFF with the second? Then it could be possible to put it on a hardware button as a speaker switcher...
I love your app. Makes things quick and simple. I was wondering if you could add something to it. Alot of times people are doing things with both hands. It would be great if you could set it for auto answer after two to three rings of course coming on with your speaker phone then after your conversation, auto end. After the other party hangs up. Giving it two to three rings before auto answer would give you the option to hit the ignore button. Love what your doing with the Wm5 and 6 apps. I'm using an htc touch 6900. Thank you. TMZ
Nice one !! I really need this for auto switching before launching GPS software... Works great !
Question have you think about adding silent running and commandline launching ? That would be great as all process could be done by script (mortscript for example)

Internal Speaker.........
Is there a way to do something like this, but, instead of using the speaker phone, using the internal speaker?
I'd like to use the internal speaker with some programs.

i mean something that allow me to use the internal speaker instead of the stereospeaker...
I need it because using a voip program, I've some bad echos, because the app use the external speaker and not the internal one (the one that you use when you're making a call...)
Anyway... Any solution for the problem?
Dont know if this is a bug... but it does not work when connected to a car charger... In fact any charger... Can any one else confirm...
It works great when not connected to any charger...
I'm a newbe,how do i create the string values? where do i go&what do i do.....
Great App Buddy!
Give me some LOVE......
SpeakerPhone v1.01 cabbed
I took oldsap's v1.01 SpeakerPhone app and created a cab that installs the files to Program Files/SpeakerPhone, creates the proper registry settings, and creates a shortcut in the programs folder.
This is my first cab I've created from scratch so install at your own peril as I don't have my device with me to test with.
Thanks oldsap for the app!
love you TY.

How can i gain android.permission.DEVICE_POWER on a rooted device?

As i understand it, android.permission.DEVICE_POWER is a protected permission and only allowed for apps signed as system apps.
There's probably some way to gain this permission on my rooted n1, but I have no idea how to do it. When installing android says:
Code:
W/PackageManager( 4819): Not granting permission android.permission.DEVICE_POWER to package casablanca.locknow (protectionLevel=2 flags=0x7e45)
(and yes, I ask for it in manifest)
Tried installing as a system app
Code:
adb remount
adb push locknow.apk /system/app
but i get the same logcat message (is this the correct way of installing a system app?)
I am trying to access the PowerManager's goToSleep() method:
Code:
PowerManager pm = (PowerManager) getSystemService(Context.POWER_SERVICE);
pm.goToSleep(0);
My questions are:
How can I install/sign the apk so that it is granted android.permission.DEVICE_POWER?
Can I do a lower level call using su to put the device to sleep?
-- Is there any other apps that can do this for me? (my power button is broken, so i want to sleep through software)
-- Is this the right forum for this question?
This is the API I'm accessing
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/PowerManager.html
hi,
I found myself in the same situation as you with a defective power button and took all the same steps your describe.
Couldn't get it to work as I also couldn't get the android.permission.DEVICE_POWER permission.
I ended up writing a full screen app that displays a dummy "lockscreen" and sets the screen-timeout to 15 seconds.
Not a solution but rather a workaround that makes my phone usable again.
Would you consider sharing your app in any way? market/apk/src?
Or, i can make it myself
and, i if you don't already know, here's how you power on without the power button:
- connect charger (wait for light)
- remove battery
- quickly insert battery again (before the light starts flashing)
Now, with CM, trackball-wake and a reboot app, we don't need the power button at all
Soo, i wrote it myself. If anyone else want it, here you go:
http://while1.no/files/Lock3.apk
What it does:
Fullscreen, black
Sets screen timeout to 15 secs
Waits until phone is asleep
Sets screen timeout to 60 secs
Commits suicide
If you press the trackball within the 15 seconds, you return to home screen. If you press anything else, it pretends to be asleep.
(And yes, all values are hardcoded)
I'll post the source if anyone wants it (it's so ugly I'm embarrassed)
I'm still searching for a way to access gotToSleep(), binding it to trackball longpress would be perfect
I tried your application, and would like to see the source. My use case: prevent the keyboard slider from turning on the phone. My phone slides out in my pocket and then turns on, sometimes trying to make emergency calls, etc. I have all tho code in place to receive the event when the keyborad slides out, and would like to send the phone back to sleep right away. The code snipped for setting the screen timeout would do.
The complete eclipse project can be downloaded here:
http://while1.no/files/Lock3.tgz
It's ugly as hell, but it works. There's also a lot of dead, unused code. Watch logcat to see what's going on.
When it thinks the device is off, it also commits a hard suicide
The timeout is set to 15 secs, but i think you can set it to 5 as well. Let me know if you make any improvements
The DEVICE_ADMIN permission of Android 2.2 solves everything.
I've created an app that locks your device (properly, no hacks!) if you either:
- Click an invisible widget on your home screen
- Long press search key
Name: "Invisible lock widget"

Hi Joernsn,
Is it possible for you to release your source code? I am trying to develop application also need the "administrative right". Thank you.
Anyone have any progess on doing something like this? There seems to be a lot of "Sleep apps" but no true power off apk.
Thanks,
D
Dear All,
I had managed to develop a utility that turn the device screen off and on by flipping the device itself. This app also came with a widget that allow you to turn off the device screen. The application is called JustFlip and you should be able to search it in Android Market under the tool section.
The application is design for Android ver 2.2 and the device must have orientation sensor. Currently the application only tested on Samsung Galaxy Tab and therefore not sure is it working fine for other device.

You can sign the .apk with the system signature - impossible if it's not a custom rom.
Maybe it also works if you edit the packages.xml (as root): set sharedUserId to 1000 (system) to your package.

screen off widget

hey all
I am looking for a widget that can simply turn the screen off, I press and the screen goes off.
I have searched but cant find anything that works
Thanks
I have seen a couple of apps in my travels go have a look in the android development I'm sure an xda member cooked one up a few weeks back, and from what i remember android does not switch off straight away like WM does it has a delay built in
I was looking for one of these some months ago.
I was told that there wasnt one which stopped the screen straight away, however I found on. UNFORTUNATELY, I can't find it again. (I am on my third Streak)
It wasn't badged as a screen off, but it was a single widget which locked the device (aka turned off the screen, as if you had pressed the power button)
I would love to find it again!
Screen off
http://android.konreu.com/applications/screen-off/
I don't see the point myself, why don't you just hit the power button
Yyhat link doesnt work no item found, the power button is in a weird spot for my liking and since i use no lock and open with th volume button
Then why don't you do a google search for an android app called 'scren off'

Pick up your android phone and go to somewhere called the 'android marketplace' you may even have an app already installed for that so no need to search for that thank goodness.
In the search bar enter 'sreen off' it should be at the top of the list
i have a question, maybe this is android related, maybe streak, not sure.
I come from WM6.5 background, so forgive me if this is a 'duh' question:
when I am listening to music, or recording or, anything really, if the screen turns off, it shuts the whole phone down. including wifi (loses connection)
is there a way to have the screen dim/off to save battery, but still be active.
biggest is music/recording. when I am recording something (meeting, etc) I have to force the screen to stay on in order for it to continue recording. same thing goes for uploading to youtube - i have to keep the screen on for it to continue it's connection.
Am I missing something??
Thanks for the help
try an app called "free power widget"
you can adjust the screen timeout so it is short or long
you can easily adjust screen brightness
you can adjust the wifi lock and a bunch of other settings.

There's something wrong with your connection, (that's your internet one, not the one within your head the connects your lobes together, especially the lobe containing common sense)
What you could do to stop you from losing your Wi-Fi connection when in sleep mode is try going into Settings -> Wireless controls -> Wi-Fi settings -> press menu button then Advanced -> then select Wi-Fi sleep policy and change the option to Never. This should I think keep Wi-Fi active when your screen is off (stops of the phone from switching to mobile data and by default is set to do so when the screen is off).

I am not an idiot
Coming from Windows Mobile, a SIMPLE power off app is hard to find on Android. I had one on my WM Touch Pro2 on my homescreen- simple tab and off.
Over the months of trying to find a simple FREE app- this is what I have so far encountered.
Screen Off .99 and Power Off .99- are available. But due to a so call security reason for Android, it will not power off the phone immediately- screen is off- but you can see the hardware lights on. I found another tip that you will have to modify an API to do so.
Yes, many, many, many, Google searches and this is what i found.
You can try a widget called Extended Controls. They are awesome and include a screen off widget, I use it all the time to turn my screen off.
Widgetsoid offers a hugely customisable power control widget which includes a screen lock button. It's working brilliantly for me on o2 2.2!

[Q] Has anyone managed to pair a Motorola keyboard with the HTC Flyer?

I tried pairing my Motorola bluetooth keyboard, designed ostensibly for the Xoom but actually functional with any computer, with my HTC Flyer.

Thoughts? Has anyone managed to get the Flyer to pair with a keyboard? If so, which one?
Aha. You have to convince it that you're pairing it with a desktop PC by holding down V, A, and R when you power it on. Unfortunately, this results in the android keys not working.
HELP ---- Can't get Xoom keyboard to work & Questions about BT Mouse...
Greetings!
I have the same keyboard and am unable to get it to work. I tried everything but the problem is that "code" to pair it only stays up for a second or two. I also tried hold down the V, A and R keys.
Is there another way?
Also, I was able to pair my Mac Mouse but it's too jumpy and I would love it if I could see a pointer on my screen. My friend as the BB Playbook and it plays very nicely with his BT keyboard and BT mouse. Even the Playbook shows a pointer on its screen when paired with a mouse.
Thanks so much for your help, Community
Fwiw I actually removed the batteries before holding down those keys while powering it on. I wanted to make sure it was really off.
THANK YOU!!!
kkinder,
Thank you so much!!! As you suggested, I removed the batteries, now my Motorola keyboard works great!!!

Samsung Tab bluetooth keyboard case works with HTC Flyer
Hi,
I'm new here. I signed up to share this piece of information with other Flyer users. I love my Flyer and have been looking for a case with an attached bluetooth keyboard that works with the Flyer. Finally ordered one that arrived today.
The verdict?
It works with the Flyer. When you first try to pair them (All Settings > Wireless and Networks > Bluetooth Settings), the Flyer will detect the keyboard. Go ahead and opt to pair them and the Flyer will prompt you with a dialog box to enter a PIN generated by the bluetooth keyboard. Problem is, the OK key on the dialog prompt is grayed out and it looks like you can't enter the PIN.
Just go ahead and type the PIN in using the bluetooth keyboard and then press the Enter key on the bluetooth keyboard. The two will be paired up and you only need to do this once. After that, every time the Flyer and the bluetooth keyboard are switched on, they will find each other without a hitch.
Btw the Samsung tab does not fit the Flyer perfectly. You need to cut out a small part so that you can see the menu buttons on the Flyer in horizontal mode. You also need to cut out a small part for the Flyer's front camera to be usable. Finally, widen the hole at the back of the case for the Flyer's camera.
All of these if done carefully will let the Samsung case retain it's handsome good looks. I got mine at Thinkgeek dot com for only $25 - on sale! If you look around at the various Samsung Tab bluetooth keyboard cases, most of them are actually made by the same manufacturer, just sold by different brands. Try not to pay too much for the same thing when another seller may have it on sale or offer it cheaper.

[Q][Help] Tenfifteen QW09 3g Smartwatch - How to answer/dial to paired phone?

Hello everybody!
I'm a forum newbie and hope someone can help me!!
I've bought an Mtk smartwatch, model QW09 from http :// www . gearbest .com/smart-watch-phone/pp_411172.html (I've to use spaces inside url due to forum rules). It's an Android device with a Kitkat version on board called FunOS.
I've been able to pair it with my Huawei P8 smartphone via bluetooth and I receive basic notifies from the phone BUT I can't answer to a call when phone rings (the smartwatch only vibrate once but nothing appear on its display) or make a bluetooth call. Obiously I need it because I don't use the smartwatch with a SIM inserted into, only with paired phone for not missing calls when it's inside my pockets or inside a bag...I just want to know if it's possibile and how to answer/make calls to my phone via bluetooth from the smartwatch.
Thanks a lot in advance if someone could help me! :fingers-crossed:

You probably figured this out already but I'll post to help others who are also having this issue. Short answer is that you cant't answer calls made to your phone via bluetooth with this devise. The QW09 is essentially a tiny phone and that keeps it from being used this way. You can either put a sim in it and use it as a standalone phone (provided it will work with your carrier) or you can use it to receive notifications. But you cant answer/make calls to my phone via bluetooth.
I might be sending this 2 years later, but I actually found a way to use this watch right. Here's what I think IS by far the best way to get this watch operational, at least for my Huawei Mate 8:
1. Root with KingRoot (Download the application over Windows PC, enable USB debugging, connect the QW09 smartwatch)
2. For this step you have 2 options:
a) Download Watch Droid Phone Pro 8.2 apk somewhere on the internet.
b) Get Lucky Patcher and patch Watch Droid Phone 8.2 yourself.
3. Downloading the same app, but other counter part, this would be, Droid Watch 8.2.
MAKE SURE TO INSTALL THE EXACT SAME VERSION, THE LATER BUILDS ACTUALLY DONT SHOW UP THE CALL BUTTON AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE BELLOW:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I PROVIDED BOTH SCREENSHOTS SO YOU WOULD KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR.
4. Connecting is pretty simple just follow the instructions, and you should be done. Calling through the app can be setup, as well as other cool features, depending on your phone.
NOTE! - These other steps are for people who want to get rid of some annoying FunOS features.
5) NO.1 Watchskin faces:
This FunOS was actually quiet annoying to work around first. I figured that it's based on NO.1 watches, and so their watchfaces do work.
For that stuff you'll need root access like which I mentioned as step #1. The location to put the facewatches is root/system/clockskin... (Make sure that they're labeled _45, _45 etc...)
6) Getting screen rotation, notification panel and navbar at the bottom of your screen:
As you may have noticed, when you swipe down, you get this horrible looking menu with a QR code, and nothing to touch besides WIFI and Bluetooth.
Get these 2 programs to fix that:
[url]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nu.nav.bar[/URL] - Navigation bar.
(When using put scale on bottom to 30% - IF YOU USE ANY HIGHER THAN THAT, THE SCREEN WILL OVERLAP WITH THE NAVBAR)
[url]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.chladek.swipe_status_bar[/URL] - Swipe status bar.
[url]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stihiya.notification.drawer[/URL] - Notification drawer.
Some other useful apps that I found to actually be really good:
1. Gallery 3D (Android 2.0 imtation) - This app is good because scaling pictures HD on this thing is a pain in the ****.
2. Document Viewer - Good for reading Office documents.
3. Dimly - For dimming your display, has nightmode.
4. Messanger Lite - FOR SOME REASON ONLY THIS VERSION ON MESSANGER WORKS.
5. RAR - For archives.
6. Screen Roration Camera - Use this to be able to rotate portrait, landscape... etc. If you combine this with the swipe notification you can easily rotate the screen, because it creates a notification.
7. OpenCamera - Good for zooming etc, rotating. Since position for the camera is AWFUL on this device, not to mention screen being a bit off too.
8. File Manager + - Use this instead of ES File explorer, because it wastes less memory.
9. ColorNote, Smart Quick Settings, Weather, BlueMail.
I spent some time trying to find the right programs for this watch, so it wouldn't get build up with a load of crap and get slow.
Most of these apps are around 5 MB each, except Messanger Lite.
If you'd like some sort of switch for the Advanced Task Killer, I use One Cleaner.
Vysor for control over PC...
Flappy Fish is also a good game if you're trying to find something that won't fry the motherboard... etc.
Also when getting the notification bar enabled you'll notice the standard KitKat notification panel, with all of it's features.
For some reason these FunOS bois, put some features hidden. You couldn't even change your GPS/Location settings. Luckly with these you might be able to.
If you got any other questions feel free to ask!
