Advice on a fast, stable ROM for my 1GB/16GB G4 Play - Moto G4 Play ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other De

Hi all.,
I have an old G4 Play which I am tinkering with. I use an Xperia L1 as my main phone but get fed up with the limited storage due to Sony's grrrrrr bloatware.
I have tried Pixel Experience 8.1 on the G4 Play but it is too slow and different aspects often hang or crash, plus the battery life is dreadful. I also use Nova Launcher.
So I am looking for a slimmer, swifter ROM that would suit my low-memory version of the G4 Play if anyone could give me any advice.
TIA
SP

I really recommend you one of the most stable Oreo ROMs AOSP Extended v5.8 ROM ... Sadly, the developers erase everything without say even a goodbye

I'm installing UltraAOSP 8.0 at the minute. Hopefully that will be decent?
Do you know of any links to the v5.8 ROM you mentioned?

Yes bro, I absolutely agree with u. I've tried so many Nougat & Oreo ROMS & found low sound issue on video recording on almost all Nougat ROMs and some Nougat ROM has dark issue as well on camera. And on the Oreo ROMs battery drains deadly but AEX(AOSP Extended v5.8) is the best. Upto date Android version 8.1, security patch of August, 2018. Super battery backup, Camera, so many useful Customisation, almost no problems at all only default call recording doesn't work from the dialer but definitely u can use third party call recording apps from play store(tested).
Thankfully Here is the latest version download link: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903984332

AOKP ROM
It's the better. Android 7.1 (Stable) :good:

So did you try this rom? How was your experience? I am also considering flashing this rom now since the stock 7.1.1 rom has really bad battery backup atleast for me.

Upon doing a bit of digging this F-Droid rom looks tasty also! http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/kenzo-f-rom-v1-t3374617
I am not pushed about having M , Lollipop will do as long as it is a good non bloated ROM based on Pure android with little to no bugs I am good to go with all the bells and whistles working such as fingerprint sensor, infrared etc.
If there are any decent MIUI apps they can alwats be backed up and reinstalled.
Benchmarks should be more than stock, I was getting 50,000+ antutu with my 1.8ghz atom 16gb 2gb zenfone 2 , I wan't 80,000.

Which custom ROM is the best?

Hello guys, i'm getting my OPX in about a week and i'm doing some research beforehand. My question is simple; Which custom ROM is the best one out there?
For now i have my eyes on cyanogenmod but i am wondering what your opinion is.
The only thing i need is for the ROM to be MM and it has to have support to use sdcard as main storage
Also i do have an additional question; Which camera app gives the best results?
Can you guys help me with this?
Thanks for the help
EDIT:
I have read some more around the site and i have found some tweaks that makes the camera better and stuff (http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...-custom-camera-hal-4k-uhd-dci-30-fps-t3315382) Is this any good?
Is there anything else i should know about?
There isn't a "best" ROM. Some are good in some aspects while others are better in other things. It all comes down to personal preference. Start by thinking of whether you are going for features, battery life or a bit of both and go from there. If you are a bit of a noob with ROMs leave you telegram, what's app, etc. and I'll be more than happy to help you

In that case, i think im going to be happy with cm13, atleast that is what ill try first. Im going to try the camera 4k fix and see if that makes the camera better. Thanks for the help, i guess im going with what i thought i would do xD
If I can help you, I'm on SultanXda CM13 rom (25/06 build). I'm really happy with it, more than with OOS. I'm not a ''power user'' (I didn't even rooted my onyx at the moment :s). Everything i need work perfectly (GPS, SMS/MMS, gapps, calls, camera, alarm clock, some social media apps) and battery life is pretty decent (i have ~4h-4h30 SWOT with all ''****ty'' apps like twitter, facebook &co).

So how is the rom you are using compared to the official CM13 rom?
And also, have you tested the 4k camera "patch" ?
i can recommend sultan's cm13 as well
If you are going for pure CMish, be sure to give Sultan's Unofficial CM a try. It's basically stock CM13 with a custom kernel which greatly improved battery life and performances plus a few tweaks to make things easier. I get 5:30h - 6h of screen on time with medium usage.
Try it, you won't regret it
Sultans ROM already has the camera HAL included. It is his after all and it does way more than just enable 4k

I didn't try official CM13, the sultan CM13 works well, i stay with it . I have installed it from one week now, have only one issue of heating but only once and for less than 5 min (maybe because of facebook app **** ...). If you want a stable rom give it a try

I will, does sdcard storage work correctly?
mic issues on sultan's?
AoSPa. Was previously using CM13 but the mic seems problematic, tried aospa last night so far everything is smooth.
Yes, Sultan has both mic and SD storage issues. But you can easily fix those: you fix the external SD with either an xposed module or a zip in this forum; the mic is fixed by editing the build.prop
All the Roms are top notch In there own sense. Best way is read forums and ask questions on what your looking for. I keep going back to Xosp. It works flawless and with sparky kernel gives decent battery life. If you dont want the Sony apps you can just choose your own file/music/gallery apps.

Imo Sultan CM13
I am using Purity ROM. I find it quite efficient both in terms of battery and stable wise. Its better to take a poll and ask the users which ROM are they using. In that way, we can get to know the ROM that is used by many.
So which one is good in terms of battery life?

AOSPA was really good, but the camera app ruined it for me. If you flash the OOS camera app it should be great. Not too sure about it's performance/battery life though, I didn't use it for too long

Best Android N rom with functional camera

Please tell me which N roms have the camera working and functional.most of the time? Itching to try N roms
I'm on Slim7 by umang96 and the camera (both) works 95% of the time. The stock camera app crashes often, but use Google Camera and everything will be fine. Just don't expect the quality of the pictures to be as good as MIUI. There is also a slight issue with the flashlight toggle, which fails to turn on at times. Apart from these, everything else works pretty fine. Getting great battery backup and performance is good too.
for me, after trying many nougat ROMs, I am sticking to nitrogenOS. The default camera works all the time. the system is stable, the battery is solid, I got around 6-7 hours of SOT with LTE all day.

Just go for Pixel Experience as I am using it as daily driver about a month and I have never thought of changing my the rom as it is one of the best stable custom rom I have ever seen in these two years! Just got 2-3 random reboots due to incompatible GCam apps but after installing proper supported GCam, the camera become completely stable and no more reboots occured. Just go for it. Completely buttery smooth even after a month and customizations.

Is the Pixel ROM more close to stock Android Oreo?
Coz i checked the chain log for Nitrogen ROM and it has so much of stuff going on with it...i don't like too many customizations...more close to stock means more stable.

A case of being overwhelmed by choice (ROMs, Kernels, and more)

Hi guys,
I'm a new Poco user. I've checked out the forums and saw lots of ROMs, Kernels and even Recovery software. I'm a bit overwhelmed for the first time as I'm liking stock MIUI 10 for now. Can someone enlighten me on which ROM has the most features, what ROM is the most stable, which kernels go best with which?
Stability: BaikalOS, Pixel Experience
Powersave: BaikalOS
Customizability / Extra Features: Resurrection Remix, crDroid, Havoc-OS / POSP
Performance: Nitrogen OS, crDroid
Pixel Like: Havoc-OS, Pixel Experience
These are the ones I know but haven't tested all of them. Tell me if I'm missing any.

best kernels
Sphinx and Franco kernel
Best roms
Lineage and stock
Stock is of course the most stable, but the beta builds always have bugs they always remove settings add settings fix something break something.

It doesn't have the app cloning and battery life is a lot better if you manage the background apps strictly but you still have to install it and test it yourself.

Lineage Pie with Franco kernel.
..and go with pixel experience only if u r into very stock version which I think is overrated given its customization limitations.
I have always hated chinese ROMs or apps, take MIUI for example they have like hundreds of apps injected into core system (miui security, miui contacts, miui dialer, miui messaging, miui this that and what not...)

Hi fellow Flip! Yeah I went with Ambasidii rom based on stock MIUI since I need the cloned app feature for ROM (Slave priest). It's rooted and has derp kernel. Battery life is quite a lot better. I was redownloading all my apps overnight and it only drained about 7% of battery life which is 1% more than full stock on idle without WiFi.
By the way, do you do a battery recalibration once you switch roms? Standby time is fantastic on mine but it seems to drain a little harder while playing ROM compared to stock.

There's no need to recalibrated when switching roms. Recommended calibrating your battery ( each month or every three months )
android phones this days use lithium-ion (Li-ion) or lithium-polymer (Li-po) batteries for Poco F1 . This batteries don’t need to be fully discharged, and come with smart chips that make calibration unnecessary and that's the good thing for us.
Just want to share this method , i do this all the time after switching custom roms.
First, drain your phone’s battery completely. Don’t charge it at any point while it’s draining. Let the phone keep working till it shuts itself off. Once the phone has shut itself off, restart it so it shuts off again. Even though the battery was at 0 percent, it has a few reserves left. Now, while the phone is off, charge it to 100 percent. It’s safe to use quick chargers for this, but make sure you hit 100 percent. Once it’s fully charged, unplug it and boot your phone. Android might not say it’s at 100 percent, and that’s okay. In that case, plug the charger again and let it get to 100 percent. then unplug it. This cycle of full drain and recharging lets the chip calibrate its readings with the battery’s charge cycle.
hope that helps:good:
