changing the height of navigation bar on stock? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

any idea? The stock nv bar is definitely too high for me. Has anyone successfully changed it without using xposed modules?

@Moriatier, you're back! After starting the world-famous V30 Frankenstein thread you just sort of disappeared!
I wrote up the instructions (later in the thread) but you were the one who really started the discussion.

You can use Substratum and even though it's made for Samsung devices, you can use the samsung system mods theme to change the nav bar height. I use it to set mine to zero so I can use gestures instead. But they have other height options in it. Probably best not to mess with any of the other parts in there though since it IS for Samsung devices. Although I got "more animation scales" in settings working too.

Assuming you know how to use Substratum, just install this and set the nav height to the one you want and then reboot

In OnePlus Gestures
you used the option,,hide navbar,, or just from substrate module did you make navigation 0 and then use gestures.... I ask because my phone is not rooted, i do not have any backup and i do not want to brick my Lg v30.

I believe you can use substratum without root in Oreo. It's been a while but I think I was using it before rooting. It uses a systemless method. Substratum has a fail safe in it where If it detects a problem like system ui keeps force closing so many times, it will disable the overlays and set it back to normal. So there isn't too much of a risk. I got myself in some situations where I couldn't do anything and just got a bunch of force closes but Substratum took care of it. Never had an issue with the Navbar overlay though. If you ever want the navbar back, you just go into Substratum and disable the overlay and reboot.
I'm rooted but the reason I didn't use OnePlus Gestures built in nav bar hide is because it had some minor annoyances. Like when I would unlock my device, the navbar would show for a split second then disappear. So I just felt, for me, it was better to use substratum and get rid of it all together. Although, with this method, you can actually toggle it off and on real quick.

gravity box issues

One week with ZU and loving it. The stock Rom is fine for me but I want to use gravity box for my favorite tweaks. Mostly it works fine but does anyone know how to fix the following?
1. Quick settings seems immune to any tweaks at all. I really want the smart pull down.
2. Battery mods don't survive a reboot... the stock battery icon returns, but just the outline.
Many thanks.

Actually, it doesn't do what I wanted - no smart pulldown or status bar tweaks. Never mind.

Some of it works well, the power off menu and lock screen stuff for example. I thought the whole point of gravity box is to bring features from CM etc into stock roms.

yeah I noticed but its limited.. no no the purpose is to bring features to roms where you can not find the provided features in the Gravitybox module to turn on or off in the settings app in the rom without typing the strings in a terminal or setup manual scripts to set on boot. Who would wanna do that everytime..
Its an app module that provides a simple user friendly UI to change strings on or off and even modify the values. For example, change the height of the navigation bar. Or remap the short push and long push action of the soft keys in the navigation bar in a few simple steps.

Oh I see, so features that were added by Rom devs simply don't have the underlying code to be addressed. Makes perfect sense, though it's a shame the stock battery outline keeps reappearing, it goes away when I toggle in GB but returns on reboot.
I can see me investigating custom roms sooner than I thought.

★How To Get True Immersive Mode/Fullscreen/Expanded Desktop in ANY Rom★

Want true fullscreen in any 7.1.1 Nougat rom? Want to be able to get maximum viewing space on your 6p? I have a treat for you!
Although the 6p screen is very large, I'm a huge proponent of maximizing screen real estate.
I found this setup is awesome because it gives you so much more viewing screen for everyday use. For example, in Chrome, now you can see so much more of a web page and it makes your viewing space so much better:
1) All in One Gestures App: enable fullscreen (within the app to get true fullscreen/immersive mode. Expanded desktop rocks. Massively improved viewing space baby!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...gestures&hl=en
2) Download Swipe Navigation App: from playstore. This is AWESOME. Enables swipe gestures to navigate and swipe as opposed to having a physical navbar. This saves huge amounts of screen real estate. At the bottom of the screen, left swipe up is back, middle swipe up is home, and right swipe up becomes recents. (This is so cool).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...vigation&hl=en
3) In a build prop editing app (I recommend BuildProp Editor), paste this line and save:
qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1
(this removes the on-screen navigation bar, now you have awesomely improved screen real estate!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...p.editor&hl=en

it's possible to hide the navbar. it's not possible to change its height (through substratum). maybe that's what you heard
Hmm. Keyboard won't work when you enable immersive mode in All in One Gestures. Kind of a deal-breaker.
Edit: tried out Swipe Navigation and the build.prop edit. Works perfectly right now. I was a little worried after restarting the phone because the Swipe Navigation app didn't start right away (I couldn't back out of an application, lol). But it started up in less than a minute and everything is good. I'm going to use for a while and maybe buy the $1.50 add-on that unlocks custom actions.

This app from the play store is the best that I have seen. Cost $1.99, I brought it with google play credits from the google surveys. It will give you the tiles in your toolbox and everything. You can hide the status bar, the nav bar, or both, plus alot extra. I use it. As long as your rooted there is no need to edit the build prop.

Rather then squabble with you, i think i discovered why it's not working for you.
Are you using superuser or supersu? I'm using the newest chainfire supersu SR3 beta. This might be your issue:

** IMPORTANT** Also, did you enable all permissions for the app?
As you can see from my screenshot, this is mine, works perfectly and IF you take the right steps i highly suspect it works for EVERYONE.

The reason why you need to edit the build prop, is because, if you want to use Swipe Gestures (the easiest and superior method for nav bar-less navigation imo) is because otherwise now you have two extra steps. You swipe up from bottom, and now you wait for the nav bar to 'come up'. You then hit the button you want. Takes time.
With my method, you instantly navigate with a gesture. One lightning fast action. That's why removing the nav bar in build prop is so important.
Also, the app you suggested costs money. Can be done better and at absolutely no cost.

I clearly stated to download the beta that i posted. It's like three months ahead of the 'stable' SuperSU development cycle.
What rom are you using? I'm using uberstock.
I flashed two other roms, and I was able to get the keyboard working in immersive mode in both.
Everyone felates and sucks off purenexus, but Uberstock runs circles around it in my opinion.

(ROOT) Disable Navbar

Hey, since I bought my Pixel 2 Xl, I saw on videos those nav bar burn in and so I've tried both immersive and Tulsadiver Mod, Navbar Gone with Swipe Navigation with Edge Gesture. Immersive is good but it doesn't get rid of the nav bar completely and everytime I Swipe up Navbar gets up so i discarded the Immersive mode.
Then i tried Navbar gone, it worked great until some apps like Google photos crashed randomly. I checked if it was anything installed on my phone but i did a factory image reset and install just Magisk and the mod and it when crashing again.
Looking at my old devices (Nexus 5) and tried to use what i did use back in the day to remove my navbar to use pie and boom! It worked flawless and no crashing with any app. Obviously you need ROOT.
I only tested on stock ROM**
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO WRONG, ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR DATA
REMEMBER TO DOWNLOAD SOME NAVIGATION APP BEFORE DOING THIS.
[YOU NEED ROOT]
1.Download a Build.Promp Editor /I used https://goo.gl/jXvZSu
2. Grant root access and press the edit button
3. Go to the last line press enter (Wich will create a new line)
4. Add this on a new line: "qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1" (without the quotes)
5. Save and reboot.
I'd hope I've helped someone
This isn't really new but I'm sure your post will be helpful to some, nonetheless.
One thing I want to stress is that it is crucial to download and setup an app like Pie Control (Play Store link), Unique Controls (Play Store link), or Gesture Control (Play Store link) prior to disabling your nav bar. Otherwise you'll have no way to navigate around, making downloading and installing one of these nav bar apps after the fact, extremely difficult.

It should work on any ROM. I've personally used this method to disable nav bar on stock as well as Lineage OS, with no issues. Carbon should be fine too.
If you want to do this system-lessly, my magisk module does same thing.

doesnt work!!
im on the latest version of stock pie, rooted with magisk.

Ive tried adding it using adb shell, to see if it made a difference.

Any ideas as to why? I dont want to install another 3rd party app.
Ive always just added the build.prop setting, and used pie control from the play store.
HELP!!

while this doesnt completely disable it, its definitely better than having the navbar always present. Works with Android P.
it also has instructions on how to hide the status bar, as well.

Thanks to report either way :good:
During afternoon, I'll upload the source code to my github and provide a link to it right here, you'll see there's nothing really special, it my opinion, it may conflict with Custom Rom may be, but AOSP or AOSP Close Rom don't really conflict I guess (My XZ1 And my Girlfriend's S8 Are Stock)
We don't really know if the bootloop comes from this module or another, or even this module on a custom ROM
Need more feedback but for the time being be careful if you use a custom Rom.
AOSP or Close AOSP are safe I can comfirm it
Has anyone knows how to disable immesrsive mode system-wide (navigation bar ALWAYS visible) ? I want to make navbar always visible, in other words prevent it from hiding. Just make sure you're not using a Heavely modified custom ROM, for the time being I'm not sur if it causes bootloop but I préfère you not to risk it

Well, unfortunatelly most of newer games are hiding navbar. Also some emulators like Fpse or SuperRetro16. I have Moto Z2 Play and I'm on Nougat 7.1.1.
With screen ratio 18:9, we still have black space at the top and the bottom right?

With My Note 8 it goes to fullscreen if you hide both bars! Guess it depends on the app and if it does support said DPI
OnePlus 5T oxygen 5.0.3 Oreo 8.0, 8gb, Xposed via Magisk.
Many thanks for the module, I'm experiencing the issue of auto disable the functionality every time the screen goes off, so when I unlock it or simply goes on I've to restart the hiding functionality.
Annoying
Here working perfect , thanks

When rebooting device it's absolutely normal to restart the app, didn't found a way yet to force immersive mode once and for all, and I don't wanna try it right now because it's directly the system who's involved, I need more practice to find a way
Now, the fact that everytime you lock your device you have to restart DeepScreen, that's pretty strange and I didn't experienced it on my phone nor my GF's, does Oxygen is a Custom Rom? Your device has been heavely modified?

Remarkable options that are working in GB?
Tested on 5.1.8 so far:
Battery options in statusbar work well,
lockscreen rotate works,
battery bar seems to work.
QS tile customisation seems to work fine.
Volume button reorientate with rotation working
Volume panel auto expand and unlink ringtone/notification working
Enabling Navbar Tweaks stopped my recent apps button working

Strange. Doesn't work for me
Any one push pokemongo to work with xposed installed without reboots method?
Hmmm...Never knew the "full detail" difference between the 2. But it appears that Magisk is the way to go, especially when you can install Xposed as a module through Magisk. It seems like a win-win situation...

Where do you find these Magisk modules? I can't see most of them in the Download list in Magisk Manager.
