Twrp on redmi 6a - Xiaomi Redmi 6A Questions & Answers

I flashed twrp on my redmi 6a, but i haven't been able to succeed at formatting data, or anything from advanced wipe. Also ADB sideload has refused to start. First i thougt it was because of the encrypted data and tried every way to decrypt like flashing universal disabler before magisk. I noticed that preserve force encryption in magisk was unticked but twrp still asked for the password and also my root was screwed big time and most apps couldn't find it, so i flashed the stocked rom and started afresh, now i want to try resurrection remix(not sure it's a good idea) but process is involved with formatting data and advanced wipe. I'm using twrp 3.2.3.2-cactus. Some help

it seems that no one can solve encryption problem in twrp?
All google result said that this should be formatting data partition. One question is: how could the format partition data whlie the partition is untouchable?

Twrp can't mount system, unable to decrypt data

My bootloader is unlocked and Twrp is installed. I flashed CM13 but was having issues with root so I ran "adb shell reboot disemmcwp" that made Adaway work but Titanium backup still would not uninstall system apps. Twrp says it can't dycrypt data and I am unable to move my TWRP backup off the device. I've formatted everything. I don't entirely understand the encryption, if I need encryption? Should I be having errors in Twrp or be able to mount system? I don't know if I did something wrong and what to do to fix it? I was hoping to figure this out before reflashing cm13.
mod please move to questions, sry
Not sure if this will fix your problem but I had the encryption issue when I flashed CM. When I set up my pin I unknowingly chose ask for pin when starting device. So TWRP asked for a password to decrypt. My pin did work in TWRP. I fixed it in the security settings. Does TWRP ask for a password?
Fixed it. I had choose a pin setting up CM. The fix for me was to hit cancel in Twrp when it asked for a pinand then format the data.

H870 Oreo TWRP without ForceEncryption

Hi,
Finally I made update to Oreo on my phone. Of course I had same problem as rest of us with force encryption. I could mount data partition only once, after data format. After reboot, phone encrypts data and I couldn't mount it. After few hours of reading ant testing I found working solution.
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Flash Eliminater74 TWRP - V3.2.3 For H870 and boot to recovery
3. FORMAT data (option where You have to type "yes") and then reboot back to recovery. Check if data partition is visible. If yes go to step 4
4. Flash Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt, Disk Quota Disablers
5. Flash Magisk17.1
Now after every reboot, data partition is correctly mounted and has no encryption. Tested only on H870 v20C. I also didn't test Backup & Recovery options, only installed couple of zip.
Hope this temporary solution will help until someone implement option to turn off force encryption in TWRP or some kernel.

I saw that dm-verity deal also and wondered how it would work on the h872 running oreo. I'm guessing it would but I'd have to go into that thread and read over the info again.
Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk
It might be working. Yesterday checked backup and it seems to be working l.
Very good! I have done! Thank you very much!
isn't formatting data enough?

Ask: Decrypting Data on Vince

Is there a way to decrypt Data partition on Vince(Redmi 5 plus). Because as I remember before updating to MIUI10 decrypting the Data partition was an ease (by formatting it), but now I can't do the same after updating to MIUI10 and switching to custom ROM.
In orange fox u can format the data partition.

Sorry, English is not my language. But after I gone away from miui to a customer rom, I format my data partition after I backup my apps. That's is all. At the beginning before u set ur account and all (or was that somewhere in middle), my phone asked me to crypt my phone. Sorry I had never this problem. Simple how-to by every build and I tested many roms.

Create Backup of Userdata for Odin?

So hello, I'll come right to the point.
I have a rooted Galaxy S7 and it's working good but I want to make a backup of my /data so I can format the data partition from TWRP, as it's encrypted and I can't turn it off (I can disable secure boot but even if I restart the device it doesn't show the option to decrypt the data partition) (cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/301383158509600780/633697401802194955/Screenshot_20191015-180241_Settings.jpg).
Sry for discord, couldn't find anything else to upload from mobile :/
I have rooted with Magisk v.20 and everything else is working really good so I dont want to loose my setup and redo it.
Also how do I update the firmware without removing Magisk? What partition do I need to exclude?

TWRP extractfork 255 error and Force Encryption

i have two huge problems like i mention in thread title. Whenever i restore my TWRP backup it gives error and says "Extractfork 255 error" and nothing in internet solved my issue.
My other and biggest problem is phone info says "encrypted" how to disable force encrypt?
Not even a single answer??
You can only disable force encrypt by flashing "patch no fde" file available on most rom threads.
But you will have to format data which will wipe your whole phone and flash the file before rebooting.
The reason your getting the other error is most likely twrp can't decrypt your data seeing as force encrypt is enabled.
And don't expect an answer, nobody here on xda is entitled to get questions answered. Alot of this information could have been accessed online if you just researched yourself instead of waiting over a week for a reply. It's not hard to type into a search engine
You haven't provided much information. Which TWRP version, what are you trying to restore, which steps have you tried and failed, what do you see in the TWRP logs etc. We do not have a crystal ball to guess the answers.
To decrypt the data, flash verity disabler and format data partition from TWRP. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389

Correct me if im wrong but we have just 1 really working twrp and its 3.3.1.2 by Nikesh and im using it. I was really thinking its very simple question. i didnt get why it looks like so complicated ) i tried to restore my nandroid backup and all of sections are succesfull exept /data partition. when it comes to /data partition it gives "extracttark error 255 ". Im still confused why you didnt get my question

What you mean that you flashed patch no fde because no where have you mentioned that you had flashed anything. You won't be able to restore the backup now because your data is encrypted and this twrp can't restore encrypted data.
You need to format data and then flash patch no fde like both of us already said. Then you can make a backup that you can restore later. You can't do anything about your encrypted data now

You are right, the answer to your question is very simple and obvious, I don't get why do you find it so complicated that you must ask here in such a nice manner.

From what I read, once you enter the correct password in TWRP and it can read data correctly, backup of /data is unencrypted. After the restore, data gets encrypted by system upon the first boot. This can be verified easily with Titanium backup app, which can read and use TWRP backups. At least that's the theory, but I'm too lazy to verify it
If you perform data backup with incorrect password (or TWRP doesn't support decryption), then your backup remains encrypted and is useless as you said.

Ya I apologise this twrp does in fact support data decryption it must have been the older version that didn't support it.
Without twrp logs I doubt there is anything we can do.
But like you suggested it may very well be a password error..but we will never know :silly:
i dont understand what im doing wrong. I installed havocos flashed no fde patch. i tried 3 times installed rom and tried. still encrypted

Ok. I have twrp 3.3.2.0 by nikesh installed. i format data and wipe dalvik cache and data. and i tried to restore my twrp backup. It restoring good but when it comes to restoring /data partition. it gives "Extracttrakfork Error 255" in red characters. I format data flashed nofde.zip but device encrypts itself again. So i tried to instal HavocOs and flash gapps and flash nofde patch. Havocos install succesfull but gapps flash gives error " Unmounting /vendor update process ended with error 25" :/
i flashed Orangefox recovery problem is still same :/

Oh boy, you're doing too many things at once First of all, what do you want to achieve? Restore stock data? Install custom ROM? Just fooling around?
Data restore -
Are you sure that your data backup is decrypted and functional? Try to restore data from nandroid backup in Titanium backup or simply open the twrp backup files (they are tar archives) and check if you see individual files or just garbage.
You mentioned that you tried "everything", but you haven't mentioned this workaround https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/255-error-twrp-backup-restore-999-t3801632
Provide full twrp.log after failed restore.
Data encryption -
Have you followed steps described here? https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389
Provide full twrp.log after zip installation.
Custom ROM -
Find support in the specific ROM topic (and provide twrp.log after failed installation).
