Hello. This is for those who are still on N6P but are ready to move on, and contemplating either OnePlus 6T or Pixel 3 XL, for obvious reasons, both phones are similar size, with impressive dev activity w/ freedom to root/unlock and develop without hassle from OEM.
- I had great fun porting roms to 6P and customizing popular kernels just to make them unique, LeanKernel w/ EX features for example.
I bought the 6T midnight w/ 8gb of ram and 128 GB direct from OnePlus. A co-worker got a Pixel 3 XL from Verizon. I've played with both.
My sentiment with Pixel 3 XL
- After playing with the Pixel 3 XL, I've come to the conclusion and agreement with some others. Pixel 3 XL was not meant for us. Pixel 3 XL was not made for Nexus 6P fans. It was not made for Nexus fans. Pixel 3 XL feels more like Apple iPhone than ANY Android phone I've ever used or touched. Pixel 3 XL for me is an odd experience, because as I used it, I became aware and realized what Google tried to do with the Pixel 3 XL and why they partnered with Verizon. Verizon partnership clearly gives Pixel 3 XL the greatest opportunity and chance to convert Apple fans to Google Pixel 3 XL. I think many of your Nexus 6P owners after playing with Pixel 3 XL would come to the same conclusion. Pixel 3 XL oddly felt very simple, and LIMITED, just like an iPhone. While Pixel 3 XL fans will be able to customize to their heart's content with custom roms, mods and addons, but this stock experience left a bad taste in my mouth realizing who this phone was meant for. It was meant for the simple iPhone user who wastes their life on instagram posting selfies.
Value
- That's what the 6P was about. We all knew we would get cutting edge hardware with some sacrifices on the 6P, SD810, decent battery size, impressive EIS on the camera, latest updates, the first phone that exemplified how great fingerprint reader can be. Sacrifices to the camera and headphone output for example. But it was worth it to have an affordable, reasonably priced phone with the freedom to do with as we liked. We owned this phone, in it's entirety.
- 6T embodies that same philosophy as 6P. Cutting edge hardware with SD 845 and 8GB of ram, and blazing fast face unlock and decent on-screen fingerprint.
- The camera. 6T camera, not a debate, huge improvement over 6P. No question. Coming from 6P to 6T, you're gonna LOVE the camera. Yes it's not as good as Samsung Note 9, Huawei Mate 20, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, Pixel 3 XL cameras, but compared to 6P, 6T camera is excellent improvement. On top of that, Pixel 3 Camera software works on 6P, takes great night pictures.
- Consider the value of the 6P and the freedom OnePlus allows, I believe the average current 6P owners will be like me, it's worth sacrificing the camera for those other gains. Als
- Pixel 3 XL has gone a different road. It's expensive. It's gimped on hardware that matters, battery, ram, no face recognition, and just an awful design, the worst designed flagship phone of 2018.
- Pixel 3 XL is NOT worth $900. It's not. You can get a Galaxy S9 Plus for less and it's a superior phone, in nearly every way. Pixel 3 XL does not deserve to be in the $900-1000 budget with Samsung, Huawei and Apple, it's just doesn't deserve to be there. Pixel 3 XL is the opposite of what Nexus was about. It's on the opposite spectrum of value.
Feel, 6T wins.
- Both 6T and Pixel 3 XL improved on feel over the 6P. They both hold in your well more comfortably than 6P. But the frosted glass on the 6T I prefer it. And it's narrower than Pixel 3 XL, it's more comfortable in my hands. Will admit the Pixel 3 XL rear is more grippy, but it's still slippery.
Hardware. 6T easily wins.
- 8GB of ram vs 4GB. Using the Pixel 3 XL, can clearly tell 4GB is not enough, even with the software updates. Baffled how Google can charge $900 for a phone w/ 4gb, baffling.
- The design. Wow, that notch, is horrifying, and so is the massive chin. Google definitely could have provided stereo speakers with almost no bezel design. Pixel 3 XL is 2018 design fail of the year. Comparing Pixel 3 XL's notch to iPhone, and other competitors, it's horrifying how bad it is. The 6T has a drop notch, and it's unwanted as well. But the 6T gets rid of the notch thanks to the OLED display, but still uses that empty space for status bar. The Pixel 3 XL does not. It's just really bad, Google clearly didn't care at launch or still.
- Pixel 3 XL microphone. Wow... The microphone on Pixel 3 XL is garbage. I don't know if it's the hardware or digital processing, either way, it is garbage. Especially recording, it's garbage.
- 6T stereo microphone recording, great. The opposite of Pixel 3 XL's garbage.
- IP68 rating. Well done some research. The OnePlus 6T undergoes gruesome QA/QI testing, including a 100 hour rain test, temperature ranging from -40 to 90 C. Watching tear down videos provide clear evidence OnePlus design includes ALL necessary details and components to achieve IP68 rating. This should be a non-issue. Also consider, none of the OEM guarantee water resistance or honor warranty for liquid damage. Samsung, HTC, Apple, Google all use liquid damage sensors in their phones. Anyone who risks liquid damage and trusts the IP68 rating is an idiot.
- The caseback. Yeah, that's a no contest. The frosted black on 6T looks better than Pixel 3 XL IMO, and it doesn't scratch like the Pixel 3 XL. And that oddity around the camera on Pixel 3 XL looks terrible, it really does.
- Pixel 3 XL does have wireless charging. But... The 6T Dash Charge charges faster than Pixel 3 XL, and... the 3700 mah battery is AWESOME. I've never run out of juice, including hours of gaming, youtube, browsing, reading etc. I never worry about the display brightness etc. For reasons I can't think of, if wireless charging is more important than Dash fast charge and 3700 mah battery, well we clearly have different needs. Battery life vs wireless charging? Really? Is that even worth discussing or debating?
- Pixel 3 XL has quad display. Yes, but it also has a blue haze, it's VERY evident. The color profiles also suck, with idiotic names like warm, what is warm and natural? Is this phone for iPhone simpletons or tech nerds? 6T display does not shift color or blue haze, and it has understandable color profiles like sRGB, DCI-3P, makes sense, call it what it is. The Pixel 3 display honestly is better than Pixel 3 XL, pay more for worse screen, what a joke.
- DisplayMate awarding top award to Pixel 3 XL is a farce. What a joke. The blue haze shift still exists on the Pixel 3 XL LG display, how that can win any award is a joke.
- Pixel 3 XL has better stereo speakers. Stock 6T has mono single speaker. I'm rocking the 6T stereo speaker mod w/ EX's kernel that allows me to adjust volume of either speaker to have level even sound from both, with true stereo sound. Still not as good as Pixel 3 XL, but is it better than 6P? I think it is, I think it has fuller sound than 6P with this mod.
- Neither phones have headphone jack. But... But... With the USB-C dongle, BOTH phones on my headphones sound much better than 6P's headphone jack output. So... consider that, both 6T and Pixel 3 XL sound is better than 6Ps.
- Pixel 3 XL without doubt has the better camera. It does. I'm not a camera fanatic. But the porting of Gcam to 6T is going well. I'm using a port that works with all features, except it shoots 4mp for front camera, and oddly is still better than stock camera's front camera, weird. I had a lot of fun taking some impressive night pics with Pixel Cam on 6T enjoying the holiday festivities.
- Pixel 3 XL front camera CRUSHES the 6T. How often do I do a selfie? NEVER. Zero f***s from me.
- 6T has hardware options to toggle alarm settings, ring, vibrate, and silent. It is as amazing as everyone says, I use it daily. Pixel 3 XL does not, nope.
Software, 6T easily wins
OxygenOS... Yes, after using OxygenOS and then using Pixel 3 XL, well Pixel 3 XL felt the way I feel when I use Apple, angry. Why are you limiting me? Why can't I do this? Why can't I do that? Pixel 3 XL experience made me angry to use, after using OxygenOS and custom roms on 6P.
- OxygenOS has 3 navigation options. ALL three I prefer to Pixel 3 XL's. Amazing right? The one navigation option on Pixel 3 XL is inferior to any of the three provided on OxygenOS.
- I always change the batter to circle w/ %, yup, OxygenOS has that covered.
- Double tape to wake with face recognition? Hell yeah, faster and more convenient to use than fingerprint on 6P.
- No LED notifications on 6T and since I don't like ambient display, oh well.
- Gaming mode, reading mode, sort of gimicky, but I do use them, a lot. They are useful. Pixel 3 XL does not.
- Unsurprising, any app features on Pixel 3 XL I use on 6T. Had no issues replacing stock apps with Google apps. There are ZERO software features from Pixel 3 XL that I desire not on 6T. None, there are absolute no reason for me to desire a Pixel 3 XL over 6T in any way.
- Do I believe OxygenOS will be preferred by any 6P user who used custom roms? Most definitely. I would even go as far as, I believe majority of 6P owners using custom roms will be satisfied with OxygenOS and not use a custom rom.
- The 6T is a smoother experience and enjoyable experience than Pixel 3 XL. I really don't think that's up for debate. 8gb ram is overkill, but you can feel the difference compared to Pixel 3 XL 4gb.
Longevity
- I'm not interested in getting a new phone every year. 6T wins for this reason alone. The 8gb of ram with the 3700 mah batter future proofs this phone more than Pixel 3 XL. And you don't have to suffer the the worst designed phone of 2018 with the 6T. A year from now, I have little doubt, that massive notch and chin will be even more annoying and aggravating as 2019 and 2020 introduces completely bezel free phones that still have stereo speakers with superior cameras and sensors. Overall I 6T is the better option for long term use. Any software advancement on Pixel 3 XL will be available on the 6T and will perform better on the 6T.
I honestly believe Google failed miserably with the Pixel 3 XL. There are so many better phones than Pixel 3 XL this year. Oppo Find X, Samsung Note 9/Galaxy S9 Plus, Huawei Mate 20, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, and OnePlus 6T to me are all preferable to what Google offered Apple fans with Pixel 3 XL.
If camera is the reason to pay an extra $300? I think you're insane. Much better off paying for a $300 camera and a OnePlus 6T.
Totally agree with what you have said.
Pixel is a big NO NO for Nexus 6P user.
I also will get Oneplus as my next phone.

Oh, guess I was wrong about that. Might be getting me one at some point.
I think it is important to note that the Screen Resolution on the 6T is lower compared to the 6P. I played with the 6T in a T-mobile store, and I could not help but dwell the entire time on how I could not avoid noticing the pixelation (my glasses give me perfect eyesight up close). That reason alone is why I am waiting for next year's devices, it's really disappointing to me that the 6T is basically a perfect upgrade for every other reason other than the screen, the one dealbreaker for me.

Humans can't see pixels at 300 PPI at safe distances to use. 6T is 402 PPI, it's well beyond retina or beyond capability of human eyesight. To see pixels, would have to use at distance that is damaging to your eyes. I have 20/20 without glasses and definitely cannot see pixels. If you can see pixels in normal use, I can only conclude you're a cyborg with beyond human eyesight.
Only time I see pixels is using VR and currently Google Daydream well... sucks. It's fun and promising, but it has a LONG ways to go.
For me, I'm dissappointed with OnePlus is the headphone jack and the early adoption of fingerprint. Since I believe OnePlus says headphone jack would not have prevented use of 3700 mah battery, it was the fingerprint reader. Oh well, every company makes blunders and mistakes, luckily these mistakes are easy to live with.
I also consider to move to the 6T. But the downside would be the size of 6.3". I'm a small person with smaller hands. It would be awesome to have an actual OnePlus with smaller screen.

If you are a 6P user, bear in mind that the 6T is actually easier to handle. Check the phones dimensions. 6T is pretty much all screen, the comparably huge bezels on 6P, plus its wider aspect ratio, make it bigger than 6T. With a smaller screen (6P's screen has about 88% surface of 6T).
As for the OP, I ended up updating from a 6P to a 6T and I have to say I'm satisfied. The front fingerprint reader does take a while to get used to, you need to learn how to better input the five fingerprints you have available but after a bit of trial and error I'm now in a place where I rarely need to try more than once to unlock the phone. And if you're less paranoid than me, face unlock apparently is blazing fast. Absence of headphone jack is annoying, there's no denying it. I bought an adapter from Fiio (BTR1K) that works well, both as a bluetooth adapter and a USB DAC (with USB C to USB C cable). It's small enough to fit in the pouch where I carry my IEMs sooo... it's an ok solution. Wished it was unnecessary but apparently you can't have it all (and Fiio's DAC and amp is probably better than most internal solutions, to be honest).

The entire size is still my main concern.

Any 6P user concerned about fingerprint, there have been solutions to its slow speed and unreliability..
For fingerprint, have solved my issues this way. Now fast and one try.
There is a magisk mod to disable the FP animation. Huge difference in speed and reliability.
Add FP for each finger more than once.
With those two, I know longer have issues with FP.

Seems to be more motion blur with the M10P. Taking pictures of my kids is not a great experiance. Its also has that oil painting look in low light. Dynamic range seems less than the Pixel.
For taking photos of people indoors, the processing goes a bit strange. Hair for example becomes a continuous looking blob like a lego man. Skin texture is non existent. It would be great if Huawei could improve upon this. Landsape photos outside look great though!
This phone is billed as a great camera phone phone with all the different lenses, but the Pixel 2 still tops it.
Camera ain't everything though!
I have both: pixel 2 xl and pixel 3 xl
And i am moving to the mate 20 pro for :
1. Better battery.
2. Faster charging.
3. Dual sims.
4. Better screen and screen to body ratio.
5. I hate that pixel 2 xl does not have any software
customization as huawei do.
I will miss the camera for sure, but i think the other topics have more importance imo.

So the camera on a 2XL is better than a Mate 20 Pro? That surprises me. I'd read that nothing is better than the Mate 20 Pro camera.
When comparing the two, here's a consideration. With a Pixel, you will get the updates as soon as Google make them ready and you will get updates for a considerable time. Huawei, well, that's not quite the case. They can be slow.
The Kirin 980 performs considerably better than the Snapdragon 835.
I find the Huawei camera software significantly better than Google.
Do you like stock Android or customised?

Stock is nice, thorough I appreciate the additions made by emui. The camera software is more versatile than the pixel, though the pixel produces better images IMO. I might stick with the M20P, see how I get on through the year and move to the pixel 4 if I'm missing it.

I have the Pixel 3 and Mate 20 Pro right now, and honestly, only the selfie camera is better on the Pixel and that's only slightly. With a little editing they are almost the same. Pixel just adds contrast and destroys the blacks.
Honestly the dynamic range on the Mate blows the pixel away. The pixel loses all the detail in the shadows.
I would keep the Mate, the Pixel having a better selfie camera is not worth it.
I have both the 3XL and Mate 20 Pro and also just sold my Pixel 2 XL after a years good service, I'm still conflicted by the Mate 20 Pro, so many great features let down by one or two things that bug me.
I use Action Launcher so I'm not to worried about EMUI, I have also turned off all the Hi* features so they don't bug me.
Positives on the Mate 20 Pro:
- Battery and fast charge are immense
- Form factor is perfect, easier to hold then both the 2Xl and 3XL.
- Macro and Ultra wide cameras are great.
- Night mode on the whole is more accurate then my Pixel 3 XL, I find the Pixel to be amazing but very inaccurate i.e. ends up looking like daytime in a night scene. On the Mate20 Pro is produces the scene better generally.
- Call quality appears better
- Faster then the Pixel 3 XL, small but its definitely faster.
Only things I don't like about it are when taking pictures of my kids using portrait mode or using the selfie cam, everyone looks really pale to the point of looking ill. I also find it harder to get good results with the Mate 20 pro as there is a bigger delay on taking the shot when I press the button to take a pic. Usually the child has slightly moved and comes out blurred.
The Pixel 3 XL and 2 XL were a case of point and click and the results are generally better 9/10 when taking pics of my kids.
For objects and scenery they are closer but I find the Pixel 3 /2 XL have more accurate colours, I have turned off AI, beauty modes (as much as possible)
The fingerprint sensor has issues on the Mate 20 Pro, sometimes it works brilliantly, a slight smudge on the screen or sometimes with no noticeable marks on the screen it refuses to work. This is usually fine as I use face unlock for general unlock. It's mainly when I'm unlocking banking apps and I have to revert to pin.
I think the screen is also better on the Pixel 3XL, the Mate 20 pro is better then the Pixel 2Xl it replaced without a doubt. I have a BOE screen so don't have the Green edge issue.
My only other concern is how long we will get updates for once the P30 is launched.
Given they are all great devices shows how hard it is to pick between them.. Maybe Mate 20 Pro hardware with Pixel Android image and camera would be perfect...
I installed Pixel Experience AOSP ROM on my redmi 5 plus and I really enjoy the simplicity and design. However, one annoying problem is that GCam doesn't work as well as it used to be on MIUI. The main problem is the lens blur option - If you set the megapixel count to 12MP in lens blur mode - The feature becomes extremely laggy and unusable, it only works smoothly on 8MP and that's really disappointing. On MIUI I was taking lens blur pics on 12MP easily.
The second problem which is less infuriating is that installing the custom rom still haven't fixed the non-working front camera w/ HDR+ issue on gcam 6, but since this is a widespread issue I could live with that and only use the rear camera. (Unless someone did manage to find a solution then I will be happy to hear)

We know most of its specifications, and the company has even confirmed what it looks like. Now, we’ve managed to get the wallpapers from the Google Pixel 6 series, and we have them available for you to download.
We managed to trick the Google Wallpapers app to show us the Pixel 6 wallpapers by spoofing the build properties of the Google Pixel 6 Pro. In essence, we made our device look like a Pixel 6 Pro, and the Google Wallpapers app then allowed us to view all of them and download and set them as if we were using a real device.
The wallpapers above are in a compressed format, and if you want to download them and use them on your device, you can follow the link below. The resolution of these 12 wallpapers is 1440 x 3120, which is the expected display resolution of the Pixel 6 Pro. It’s worth pointing out that a lot of these wallpapers have designs that focus on the hole-punch at the top center, so they may not look great on all devices.
These wallpapers are all very different from previous Pixel wallpapers, which goes hand in hand with the rest of what we know about the Pixel 6 series. The Pixel 6 series has a pretty unique design, with a large rectangular camera bump across the back. It will feature the company’s “Google Tensor” chipset and an under-display fingerprint scanner.
The Pixel 6 Pro will also have a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ resolution curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The sides have “shiny, polished aluminum rails” and the wide-angle sensor “takes in 150 percent more light.” Meanwhile, the regular Pixel 6 has a smaller 6.4-inch Full HD+ resolution flat display with a 90Hz refresh rate. We managed to trick the Google Wallpapers app to show us the Pixel 6 wallpapers by spoofing the build properties of the Google Pixel 6 Pro. In essence, we made our device look like a Pixel 6 Pro, and the Google Wallpapers app then allowed us to view all of them and download and set them as if we were using a real device.
The wallpapers above are in a compressed format, and if you want to download them and use them on your device, you can follow the link below. The resolution of these 12 wallpapers is 1440 x 3120, which is the expected display resolution of the Pixel 6 Pro. It’s worth pointing out that a lot of these wallpapers have designs that focus on the hole-punch at the top center, so they may not look great on all devices.
These wallpapers are all very different from previous Pixel wallpapers, which goes hand in hand with the rest of what we know about the Pixel 6 series. The Pixel 6 series has a pretty unique design, with a large rectangular camera bump across the back. It will feature the company’s “Google Tensor” chipset and an under-display fingerprint scanner.
The Pixel 6 Pro will also have a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ resolution curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The sides have “shiny, polished aluminum rails” and the wide-angle sensor “takes in 150 percent more light.” Meanwhile, the regular Pixel 6 has a smaller 6.4-inch Full HD+ resolution flat display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The sides have “matte-finished rails” and not aluminum ones.

who of you upgraded from a Pixel 2 XL to a Pixel 6?
I got my Pixel 6 yesterday and compared the two phones.
I mean the display of the Pixel 2 XL is better than that of the Pixel 6, what do you think?
I find the color white on the Pixel 6 does not have such a good luminosity and therefore you can read the fonts better on the Pixel 2 XL in dark mode. Do you think so too?
In general, even when comparing apps, I find the dark colors of the Pixel 2XL darker and the light colors much brighter than the Pixel 6, which I like better and increases readability. Pixel 2 XL just looks more like luminosity OLED and Pixel 6 somehow a bit pale like an LCD. Also the 2 XL looks sharper.
Apart from that, I don't like the fingerprint scanner that much... It's a bit slow and I miss pulling down the notification bar on the back with it.
But in everything else I have to say a great upgrade. What is your opinion on Pixel 2 XL vs Pixel 6?
I noticed the same thing about the display. The pixel 2 xl has a nicer display with truer blacks. Another thing I noticed is the screen is almost exactly the same size as the 2xl. I'm happy with the pixel 6 device overall but the display is where they saved money to get that price point. I compared the same 1080p video on YouTube on both devices side by side and its very clear that skin tones and colors look more accurate to reality on the pixel 2 xl than the pixel 6. The pixel 6 colors seem dull in comparison.
I will miss the rear fingerprint sensor too but it's not as big of a deal for me as the display. Also be careful when using the new fingerprint sensor at night because the light it uses is very bright.
I upgraded from the 2XL. My question for the displays would be do you have the color setting the same on both displays so that you aren't comparing boosted on the 2xl compared to natural on the 6.
Yes, both set naturally. But it is also so, when Pixel 2 XL is set so naturally and Pixel 6 to adaptiv.
It is very hard to make a picture of that.
On Pixel 6 the white text is light grey and not clear white and the background on 2 XL is darker, so it is easyer to read text.
Maybe it is because Pixel 2 XL has QHD instead of FHD display and more pixels lighten up?
Just upgraded my 2XL to a 6. Couple of things I find annoying:
When I connect my BT headset, the phone still rings audibly. That caused embarrassment as I was presenting in a meeting today.
How do I get to my full list of apps quickly? On the 2XL, you swiped up from the bottom, but that's the home gesture, and even on the home screen, it doesn't pull up the apps.

Just discovered this one: if you tap on the fingerprint sensor and swipe up, it pulls up the apps list.
I don't like the HUGE pull-down controls. I'm used to having 6 controls at the first pull-down. Now we only get 4. Any way to go to smaller buttons/icons?
I'm in the process of evaluating moving to the Pixel 6 Pro or Pixel 6. I'm sadley leaning toward the Pixel 6 so I don't have to deal with curved display. The Pixel 6 came in today. Currently rooted, but having issues getting the OS to update. :/

Yes, the display is not as high resolution as the 2XL. Fortunately, I made my choice knowing this because I compared specs. Remember, the 2XL was a $900 phone when it came out. Pixel 6 is $600 - considerably cheaper, and arguably much better. The Pro on the other hand, has a vastly superior display and is still cheaper than the 2XL was - and that is not factoring inflation!

The controls are the OS, not the phone. I'd wager there are configurations for the Pixel Launcher to modify that. I don't know because I switched to Nova (Prime) years ago, and it looks great on the new phone. everything is adjustable.

I hoped that rooting and flashing would be easier on the 6, but sadly, that is not the case. There are other threads here that describe the root/update process. I was lucky since I got my phone right at the beginning of November, and the update came to my phone during initial setup.
Updates need to be side loaded due to verity re-enable on vbmeta, or you'll have a wipe with each update. There are instructions elsewhere around here.
I liked my 2XL, and will hold on to it as a backup/play phone as long as I can, but it is getting flakey. The camera stopped working in August, I have various apps that just refuse to launch, and worst of all, the charge port no longer consistently maintains a connection. Only a few select cables are usable. I hate when that happens.
I considered going for repairs, but for the camera alone it's around $170 with labor. Since I insist on rooting my phones, the Pixel 6 or Pro was pretty much my only reasonable option. So far, I'm happy with it.
I am a new owner of Pixel 6 Pro, previously with Pixel 2 XL. I will keep the 2xl for backup and international SIMs
I upgraded from the Pixel 2XL to a Pixel 4XL but ended up returning it as I did not want to deal with Face Unlock in the middle of the pandemic where I needed to wear a mask so i ended up getting a OnePlus 7 Pro instead. So far there are some things that is actually a downgrade from the Oneplus but overall I am happy with the Pixel 6. So far I dont think anything is wrong with it that cannot be fixed with a software update in the future. And we all know how quick Pixels get updates.
