Honor 8X Gallery without Discover tab - Honor 8X Questions & Answers

Just found out my new honor 8x' gallery app do not have Discover tab, just photo & album. Seems like other huawei or honor phone have it? Any clue? EMUI 8.2.

Same here: I have never seen on my phone.

Finding
Seems that this is common among honor 8x user.
I did search on Chinese huawei forum, below are the finding:
1. Some say it have discover feature, just need time to generate the discover photo, with some criteria, including with huawei ID, sync to cloud, turn on geotag.
This mean some user actually get Discover features.
2. There is one post suggest to re-login huawei ID, reboot the phone, clear data & cache of gallery.
There is no clue the person who post this had solved this issue or just general suggestion.
3. One interesting post mention currently this feature open to some models only.
I have no idea how this guy have this information and maybe he mean some of the honor 8x models (honor 8x have few different models name) only have it. Hopefully this feature could roll out to all honor 8x in the future.

AppTwin for other apps

Hi,
I just got a Mediapad M5.
In Thailand, AppTwin allows only LINE app.
I heard that outside China, Huawei enable Facebook and WhatApp, while in China, Vchat something.
I do not understand what the problem Huawei face in enabling/disabling certain apps.
Why cannot Huawei let the user choose one or two apps in AppTwin by himself/herself?
Is there a way to work around this limitation?
I searched and found one guide but it does not work any more with new firmware (by using adb command).
The way that Huawei choose to enble certain apps in certain regions means that the app can be chosen and changed.
Could someone please give me a guide how to?
Thank you.

I find that Huawei's own AppTwin is very limited, it will not even clone FBM Lite.
I tried to install Parallel Space and it does not work with my M5 (some people seem to work).
I tried App Cloner instead and it works.
So my suggestion is if you have no luck with Huawei AppTwin, try another app instead.

Android Pie & Encryption

Hi guys,
I currently have an Honor 8 with Android 8.0, in I have some issues with encryption.
You may know that Huawei phones does not respect completely the Android expectations in terms of encryption, which lead that some application like Intune (Microsoft) sees the phone as "not encrypt", and reject the creation of professional profile.
This features was OK for me on Android 7.x, but not anymore on Android 8.0. It also seems to impact Mate 10, P20, Honor 9, 10...
As I plan to buy a Mate 10 pro (hope good offers for Black Friday...), I wanted to know if those who have tested the beta of Android 9 on this phone can check the security parameters, and see if the encryption option is available or not, and if some of you succeedeed to enrol within Intune.
Hope my question is clear enough.
Thanks for your feedback

Disabling GNSS duty cycle

Hi, I need to turn of the duty cycling of the GNSS (GPS) chip on my mate 20 pro. I was under the impression that it should be an option in the developer settings in Android Pie, as it is in other phones, but there is no such option for Mate 20 Pro.
Does anyone know why and better yet how to solve it? I must turn off the duty cycling for my research project. Thanks!
hey do you find the way to turn off?

Huawei P30 Pro EMUI 9.1
Hello did you find a solution to your problem? I am an owner of the Huawei P30 Pro with the latest release of EMUI 9.1. I can’t find how to disable the duty circle on GNSS raw data measurement (there is no option under the android developer settings on my Huawei Device). In some smartphones duty circle can automatically disabled when you call android GNSS raw data API. Does the Huawei supports this feature or we can not disable duty circle on Huawei smartphones at all? Thanking you in advance.

hello I communicated with the engineer of huawei only to know the EMUI doesnt support disabling the duty cycle. Are you trying to use the carrier-phase for RTK or PPP ?
Duty Cycle
Yes I am trying to develop an app using the kernel of the RTKLIB open source library for PPP and RTK purposes. I have already tested this with XIAOMI MI8. I am also interesting in buying the new Xiaomi Mi 9 with Qualcomm 855 in build gps chip. Did you ever test the Xiaomi Mi phones? I also have already test the mate 20 pro for dual frequency carrier phase measurement. In order to implement the L5 frequency on this model, you have to update to EMUI 9.1. But this issue with duty cycle is critical so I can not support this model also with the P30 Pro.

Finally, is there a way to avoid duty cycling on P30 and othe huawai phones ?

Google Assistant Voice Match broken/greyed out on China Mainland Emui Devices

Anyone who uses a China Mainland rom of Emui Huawei phone with google apps should at this point be used to glitches, location history unusable, google now screen doesnt refresh, google backup disabled in favour of emui cloud, broken safety net in Betas, spotty Google pay integration... The list goes on.
But the most annoying problem imo is the inability to use Google assistant in voice match. Thanks to some mysterious problem most likely related to huaweis voice assistant (hivoice, yoyo, emy are basically all the same thing). Google assistant voice match is disabled and greyed out for Chinese mainland emui roms. I can say this affect all phones because I have personally tested 5 (mate s, mate 9 pro, p10 plus, P20 pro, mate 20 pro) running emui 4 to emui 9.
No conventional debugging method on Google's forums, from uninstalling to factory reset (short of replacing emui with a new custom rom, I tried that too) can fix this issue.
This issue seemed to have not gained as much attention as it needs as people seems to frequently mistake this for other, easily fixable issues and post their greviences under those posts, and are promptly directed to common, not useful debug steps.
This is a very detrimental problem for an otherwise relatively enjoyable hardware experience, and despite the amount of people experiencing this issue (people post about this a lot in Google's product forums but rarely gets a proper response). There has been no real solution or explanation.
Hi,
I have already posted it in another post. I noticed on my Honor View 10 that there is a connection between the Private Space and the Google Assistant. Whenever I have used the private space and then switched back to the normal account, the Assistant will then click out. It was also reproducible on my phone, but I can not say how it is related. Since the soft and hardware of the Huawei and Honor phones are similar, I thought it helps here. I have now deleted the private space and restarted the phone. After I have not used private space after the last reboot, the assistant works since yesterday without problems.
Regards Ralf.

On chinese roms (model AL00 and Al10 huawei) google assistant voice activition is broken in general. Third party apps do not play well with private space, as it is essentially like a sandbox environment.

Huawei and honor are the same thing, hardware and software. However there is a massive difference in terms of software between mainland China and outside huawei/honor software, including lack of launcher changing, hivoice which replaces Google assistant, lack of location sharing capability as huawei does not use Google location services in China software, as well as more bloatware and less privacy. The screen time management on China roms also activates a Chinese vpn that essentially blocks everything that is also blocked in China, fb, Google the whole shabam.

Redmi factory spyware: Do I need to flash custom ROM?

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9s was my top choice for phone to buy until I today read the Forbes article about Xiaomi spywware (different from bloatware… it's send user behaviour data to Chinese servers about not just web use but even music, folders, status bar, app use…
Questions:
1. Do European firmware also have this problem?
2. Will community ROMs like LineageOS solve this problem?
3. Can modified hosts file solve this problem?
The problem is with Xiaomi browser, you can use another browser you trust (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) and forget the concerns. However, Xiaomi released an statement two weeks ago explaining the data collected and a way to disable it. (https://blog.mi.com/en/2020/05/02/l...onse-to-media-coverage-on-our-privacy-policy/)
If you are very concerned about your privacy, yes, a custom ROM will help, because most customs ROMs are built over open source projects and focused on protect your data and privacy. Note that the Redmi Note 9S is new on the market, so the community development isn't mature enough. Maybe you can choose the Redmi Note 8, with more time on the market and with more community development available. Another alternative are Xiaomi Mi A2 or Mi A3, they have the advantage to have Android One, so you get rid of Xiaomi Services -and possible spying- out of the box.
